NFL Week 4 Recap Drake Maye Silences Doubters and Eagles Concerns Emerge

NFL Week 4 delivered major storylines as Drake Maye silenced his doubters with a standout performance. The Eagles suffered their first loss, raising questions about their consistency. Meanwhile, the Chiefs remained undefeated, and Kenneth Walker III continued to impress, easing the load on Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid's offense.

their first loss of the season at 3-1. And when you talk about 4-0 for the Chiefs, maybe this is good for them because every time they've started 4-0 since Mahomes became QB1, did they go to the Super Bowl as we expand, expand, expand, expand? Not in 2018, but they did in 1920 and 24. We'll see how it all pans out this year for them. So, now we get over to the Chiefs portion of this conversation, and I feel like we have to start at least with Kenneth Walker III and what he's done and how much easier he's making life for not only Andy Reid and scheming up the offense, but also Patrick Mahomes of not making it too rellyant on him. You see that Ran when you are a running back like that, how critical is he just the new

revelation of them? So, we talked about it a lot, Le talk about what iteration of this Kansas City offense were we going to see coming into the season. And I think we all agreed that the Kansas City Chiefs that we knew from the past will be no more. And I think everyone's been right because the offense is flowing through Kenneth Walker. Yesterday, they averaged 7.3 yards per carry. If you're averaging 7.3 yards per carry, you pretty much going to win that football game because you're you're getting ahead of the chains. You're staying ahead of the chains. And you talk about a guy who has what I call close the door ability. When your team needs you to pick up that first down and

push the clock out even more, you turn around, you hand the ball off to him. But then also, we now forget because of how well this football team is playing, we forget that Mahomes is coming off a torn ACL. Yeah. And although his recovery has been miraculous and he's playing well, he's still working his way back, still knocking some of the cobwebs off. and they're doing so right now without even having to use him as much because Kenneth Walker is carrying this offense. And the interesting thing you called close the door. He has that ability. And during the highlight I said he closed the game for them. You look at the top of the fourth quarter, they're down by

three in that game. I believe 10 to 13 and he breaks one for 76 yards and then finishes that drive with a touchdown. They get they fumble on the kickoff return and on the very next play, Zack 22 yd touchdown because they lose contain lose leverage. He has been what has been so great for Patrick Mahomes because to Ran's point, we haven't had to talk about Patrick Mahomes coming off the injury. Like Patrick Mahomes only completed 50% of his passes yesterday and nobody's talking about it because of what Kenneth Walker has meant to this team. And he talked about it in the offseason. He said he went upstairs to the GM beach and was like, "Man, I don't know if we can get this guy, but we really need to bring him into the building because everything he did in Seattle in

that run to the Super Bowl, we need that type of guy on this team." So, they didn't even think they were going to be able to get him. the fact that they were able to get him and it allows Patrick Mahomes to slowly come along, especially with the injuries you talked about, Zach, like he's the workhorse on this team. I know a lot of people were saying they didn't know if he could do this and beat RB1, but I saw it in Spurs at Seattle. Feels like the more carries he gets, the better he gets in the game. And we saw that late in the game versus the Raiders when he closed it out. Yeah. Taquan Thornton with that dislocated ankle. If you have not seen the injury, don't look it up. It looks bad enough, but they will figure out

what happens with him. Yeah. And switching gears on the Raiders side of things because I don't know that anybody had the Raiders being 3 and 0 going into this game, but Lijay, what does it tell you about this Raiders team that they were able to keep up with the Chiefs? I'm seeing game-winning drive. I'm thinking I've seen Kirk Oains do this before. I'm thinking he's got it in his bag, but what does it tell you about this team that they were able to kind of go punch for punch with this Kansas City Chiefs team? A totally new mindset with the Las Vegas Raiders. And we talked about this, Ryan, coaching matters. what Clint Kubak has been able to do. We saw it last year with the Seattle Seahawks with this

offense besides Brock Bowers and maybe Michael Mayer. Like when you look at the names on their offensive side, they don't blow you away. But the way he's so inventive when it comes to getting these key matchups because a lot of the first half, Brock Bowers was used as a decoy. Michael Mayer was the guy that was on the receiving end of a lot of Kirk Cousins passes. They got Jensy going late in that game in the second half and he's able to just switch things up to attack you the right way. Now, what we saw in this game is one team execute down the stretch and one team that didn't, and that's the youthfulness of the Raiders. We saw the fumble, right?

We also saw Clint Kubak take points off the board and I came back to bite them because they went for it on fourth and two and didn't get it right there. There was a real chance to swing that momentum in their favor. And I always say, Ran, I hate taking points off the board. Now, if you get an automatic first down, I'm cool with that. Take the offense out there. But when you take points off the board, you better for sure be able to convert on that fourth down. Especially against a team like Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, because the way they're executing right now, that will lose you a game.

I'm going to go into my Birdman bag. We going to turn the money the morning box score into the breakfast club. All three of y'all. All three of y'all put some respect on the Raiders name for sure. Yeah. I came into this game saying, "Okay, we're going to find out what this Raider team is all about." And this is when reality starts to set in because you look at the remaining part of their schedule over the next three to four weeks, they're about to hit a gauntlet. And I said this last night on the postgame show, I don't give a damn if the Raiders win these next couple games. And that's

going that's kind of crazy to say as a competitor, but if they continue to play football the way they are currently playing football, they are peing ahead of schedule. Yeah. Right. And like you said, Jacqueline, no one expected or had on their bingo card that the Raiders would be three and one after the first quarter of the season. Everyone would have thought they would have been 0 and4 playing them way their way in contention to surround Fernando Mendoza with more weapons.

However, this is a really good football team. You talk about coaching matters and you said the names Michael Mayer and Brock Bowers. We're talking about tight ends being the focal point. But it goes to show you that in this Shanahan Kubak offense, if you're the X, if you're the Z, you're you're X's and O's on this board. We don't worry about the names on the back of the jersey. You're going to do what we ask you to do. We're going to scheme you open and we expect you to make plays and that's how this offense and this team as a whole are playing. Kudos to Clint Kubak. Kudos to John Spy. You guys are building it right. Continue what you're doing.

Yeah. And you know what? That conversation of when Fernando is going to come in sort of feels like a distant memory at this point once we're seeing what we've seen so far through the first four games. All right. From one divisional matchup, questions about the Patriots. Like they have a Drake May problem after that horrible performance against the Jags. But what can you say, Lee, about their ability to bounce back against a divisional opponent on their home turf? Nonetheless, for me, it starts with Drake May and his mentality. Yeah, cuz people were wondering where he was mental after the last couple games. the way he was turning the football over. Even in the win verse the [clears throat] Pittsburgh Steelers, didn't play well in that game.

Turned the football over and then had a just an awful game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. So kudos for him coming back mentally and being ready for this game. Ran, we talked about this earlier in the offseason. The Patriots made some changes on offense, right? They bring in Romeo Dobs to bring in AJ Brown. Let's not forget Drake May with the cast of characters he had last year was in the MVP race. And when you look at their receiving core, a lot of those guys would be probably three receiver three or four on most other teams. Well, that was kind of like what he had Sunday. And then even the guy he trusts the most, M. Holland, goes down in that game. You talked about Chisum.

This was a guy that was on practice squad that came up. He for some odd reason ran in those scenarios when there isn't bigname guys. He just lets the game come to him. And the biggest thing that I saw Jacqueline, Zack, and Ran, he finally used his mobility. I have been preaching, yelling from the Raptors. What made you so special last year was on those critical third downs, you using your mobility to escape and pick up first downs to keep your offense on the field. 54 rush yards. To me, that was the difference in the game. It was can you make plays beyond the X's and O's and Drake May did that yesterday.

Absolutely. And that's exactly where I want to go with it because he had eight carries, 54 yards on the day. And Lijay, you've been preaching it. You have been preaching it in terms of using his legs, using his mobility because that extends plays because not only are you evading the rush and everything up front, you can evade the rush to get the ball, launch the ball downfield or scramble, pick up more yards, live to see another down, and he did a great job of that yesterday. As a team, they finished on the day 143 yards. That's going to always help you. They possessed the ball seven more minutes than the Buffalo Bills did, which limited the ability of Josh Allen to have an opportunity to score.

But then the other part of it, they were three for three in the red zone. Finally converting in the red zone. All those things matter, especially to a young quarterback and getting back on the roll. Ladies and gentlemen, this is why you preach that this league is a week to league weed. We were ready to bury Drake last week. Is he done? What should they do? What you should do is lead the kid to hell. Let him go. Let him play football. Tell him to got tapped up right now. I think if you're going to speak right now, you want to preach. Yeah. Let me preach.

Hold on. Let me introduce. We got our guest pastor. Yes. Let me preach a liable to Ran's point, right? It's a week to weekly and people are so quick to bury somebody after a couple bad performances. We gave Drake May a lot of love. You know who else? We have to give love to Han Romeo Dodge because I said in the offseason he was one of the best red zone threats. You talked about it, Ran. Three for three in the red zone. Two tugs in the red zone for Romeo Do on fade routes. Finally showed up when Drake May needed him in a must-win scenario. First a divisional frame May.

DRAKE, BOY, did he show up for those yesterday. And the Patriots are back in the think of this thing. Preach. Yes, he will. If you have not given your life to Mour Box score, come on up to the congregation. Offering plates are coming around, your 10% tithe. And we'll have some breaks while you go into your pocketbook. When we come back though, we'll hit up more on the NFC. Some of those undefeated teams who are taking care of business. And it's like no one wants to see this. the injuries and big names at that getting hurt. Lamar Jackson's ankle Jamar Chase Patan week four um it hurts and Nick Serriani maybe has some prayers to give out here because he doesn't like what he decided

to do on fourth down. You send it up to the Lord and he will answer your prayers. We'll be back with more box on the other side. Lamar Jackson, we know injured his ankle and the Ravens win over the Titans. So he left the stadium in a walking boot after not playing the second half of the game. Ravens head coach Jesse Mitch said Lamar was just dealing with a little bit of an ankle after the game. Went on to say, "I don't know enough about it right now, but we'll have to see where that's at." Now, Lamar Jackson, an update here, will have an MRI today. Of course, we're going to keep you posted on the very latest when it comes to Lamar and that injury. Now, Sunday was also not a great day for the

Cincinnati Bengals. Um, not only did they lose, uh, but the Browns or excuse me, the Bengals, they lost 22 to 17 to the Jags, but their star wide out, Jamar Chase ruled out after suffering concussion. And that's not all. Zack Taylor told reporters after the game that T. Higgins has an adductor injury. So, Higgins missed a lot of the fourth quarter with his injury issue as well. So, Joe Burrow's top two weapons also pretty banged up. Not good news for Cincinnati. And some more injury news. This one is for the Eagles. They could be without their star running back Saquon Barkley for quite some time.

Saquin ruled out in the first half of Sunday's loss to the Rams because of a hamstring injury. Saquin now in his ninth season, third with the Eagles. So, of course, that is something that we're going to have to monitor with Saquon Barkley. We also have some more injuries to talk about unfortunately. Uh Marcus Mariota, a knee injury, DJ Moore, a big one for the Bills there with a shoulder injury. Uh Cooper for the Green Bay with an ankle or excuse me, an Achilles injury. And then Patrick Certan, that is a big one. Um, dealing with an ankle injury there. Their top corner, arguably the best corner in the league there. Um, with the Denver Broncos. So guys, really quickly here while we're talking

injuries, that's a ton of big names we were just talking about when you're looking at Baltimore, Cincinnati, Philly. Really quickly, which one is the biggest alarm bell panic level mode for you? I mean, obviously Lamar because he plays quarterback, but I would say the second one is Patrick Certan. Uh, what he means to that defense. He's tasked to take on the number one receiver week in and week out. Now, we saw him have some troubles with Devonte Adams, but he's still one of the top corners in all of football. So, this has kind of been a lingering thing for him the last couple years cuz remember he missed a good portion of last year with the [clears throat]

injury. So, that's some concern if you're the Denver Broncos. I want to take it somewhere else because now right now in the National Football League, we are when we think about the scouting department, right? We think about the GM, we think about the draft, but this is where pro directors make their money and the entire pro uh scouting department because now with all these injuries, all of these teams that we listed, their pro director is working on bringing the next guy in. So, we could we should as a group here um at CBS Sports HQ monitor the workouts that'll be going on tomorrow because all these guys are right now working the phones, calling agents. They're probably

competing against other teams trying to get guys in. And these are the moments that your pro department really step up and make your team better because if you're able to unearth a player that can now step you're not going to replace Patrick Certan or some of the other names on the list. Like I get it, but finding that best guy on the street being able to bring in can really bring up the bottom part of your roster. And that's exactly why you watch the morning boss score on a Monday cuz where else would you get nuggets like that right there that you just got from Ran Carthon. Just a shameless plug to keep tapped here with us HQ.

Now we'll keep it pushing to get to the highlights of the Dolphins and the Vikings. But really a tale of two undefeated teams. Very different tale. We're looking at the Vikings and the 49ers. Let's start with the Niners side of it, Ran, because this is a team where we're kind of on edge like with the injury news that we've heard in the past, like what's that mean moving forward when you're looking at the depth and the different guys who are able to step up here. How do you feel about this Niners team? They look unstoppable and they're able to protect their quarterback as well.

Well, I mean, that is the biggest and most glaring stat, right, is that Brock Pury has not been on the ground in terms of uh in terms of drop back passing. But what I love about this football team is right now they're not putting all the load on Christian McAffrey. We're used to seeing Christian McCaffrey have to touch the ball 35 40 times a game to put this team in position to win. But now they're spreading the football around. Different people are helping them and having big games each and every week. And guess what that's going to set up for? That's going to set up for a heavy load of Christian McCaffrey down the stretch come November and December when

you have to close out football games and he's going to be fresh. So, they're relying on the young fella Kalon Black, the rookie out of Indiana. They're getting Debo involved, putting him in the back field. That touchdown pass that um catch that he had, he was coming out of the back field on that. You're getting George KD back involved. Uh we saw Kyle use go down, but he's been heavily involved uh involved. And then Mike Evans is still working his way through this offense, playing injured, but they don't even have to rely on him right now. Just a good compleiment of weapons for Brock Party. And this goes back to training camp. Talking to my people over there, they said Brock Pery was out of his mind

during training camp. And they credit a lot of that to Raheem Morris and this new defense that Raheem has been employing. And so Brock Pury is seeing things much clearer another year in this offense that he has mastered. The 49ers are rolling right now. And to that point, he's square in the MVP conversation the way he's playing because they haven't really leaned on Christian McCaffrey. I think they looked at and selfc scouted and Kyle Shanahan said we put too much on Christian McCaffrey last year. We even saw it in week one when they were in Australia. Kalon Black had a lot of carries in that game. I think it's to Ran's point, they want to take the pressure off CMC because they're going to need him for down the stretch and

they're leaning more right now on Brock Pury. What doesn't get talked about enough with Brock Perie is his mobility, his ability to make defenders miss and buy time to find guys. We saw a play yesterday which was unfortunate. He made a couple defenders miss and found Kyle Yushk now got hurt on the play but it's just his Houdini act at times doesn't get talked about enough and I say in the red zone he's a real rep we weapon with his mobility in the red zone so right now Brock Perie to me maybe be the top pick for the MVP the way he has carried this team throughout the first four weeks with the injuries that they've occurred I just in the last segment talked about pro departments right and pro

department's ability to find players with all these injuries that we seen the 49ers take on over these last couple years. They keep turning the bottom of the roster. So, I'm going to take a moment and shout out my young fella out in San Francisco, Fred Gamage, the pro director for the San Francisco 49ers and the work that he and RJ Gillan and the rest of the staff have done bringing all those guys in. So, great job fellas. And quickly before we move on, the toughness of this team, we saw Trent Williams and Mike Evans leave last week. Both of those guys started this game and had big impacts in this game. Completely different vibes of another 4-0 team though that we mentioned now was just

the Vikings and we showed highlights of a kicker Will Riker and the fans are happy with him. They are not happy with their QB Kyler Murray because this is what the Vikings are saying best in the business will Riker and when the social team is having to pump up your social your special teams that's not a good thing. The fans though are not happy at all with Kyler Murray despite them being undefeated because you've got one fan saying, "Okay, JJ McCarthy had to have been better than this. You've got other fans saying that they just are not happy with how things are going, but you're undefeated." Is there a reason for them to have that chirping le or is it just like, "Hey, you're winning."

Oh, no. There's some concern and we even said this earlier when Carson Wentz was quarterback. Remember I was saying that they should have stayed with him. Um because right now they're not getting much more out of the quarterback position. Like they've really struggled in the red zone. Now Kyler was efficient with the football and he scrambled a few times yesterday, but we just aren't seeing that offense that we're accustomed to seeing from Kevin Okconor where you'll be able to push the ball down the field. Now TJ Hogson played out of his mind yesterday. And it seems like Kyler has a real rapport with him and Addison doesn't have a rapport with Justin Jefferson yet, but you cannot

hope that your defense is going to hold teams to 10 points every single week. Now, they've done it this entire season, but there's going to come a game where you're going to have to at least put up 21 on offense. And right now, from what we're seeing from the Minnesota Vikings, I don't know if they can do that, right? Like Aaron Jones ran the ball pretty well yesterday. It's almost like they want to play like four yards in a cloud of dust right now. And that's not Kevin Oonnell's offense. No, it's not his offense at all. And that's been the issue with Calamur. Calam Murray does not play on time. Everything for him is mo moving around the pocket. He had a drop yesterday. It looked like we were playing Techmo Bowl. Correct.

He looked like he dropped back 30 yards and that's how we played Techmo Bowl. 100%. Then just drop all the way back and then just throw it up. Especially if you had the Dolphins and Dan, you know. But I digress. One offensive touchdown in the last three weeks. Bad for this team. And then the other touchdown was a return touchdown. So special teams stepping up all the way around for them. We talked about Real Ricard and the work that he's done making these field goals. This offense has to get better because this is not something that's sustainable for an entire season.

I had a friend who uh had the Vikings in their pickup league and he said, "I cannot believe I picked this team and they won without scoring a single touchdown. What about that?" Oh my goodness. Ryan Flores and that defense. Kyler Murray's going to try to get it right for y'all Vikings fans. So, give them a chance to just try to get right. And as we show you this last, the Vikings are the second NFL team in the last 90 years to win three straight games in a season while scoring one or fewer scrimmage touchdowns across the three games. Other team was the Steelers back in 1994, weeks 10 to 12. That is crazy stats there. Vikings are

still winning though. Data Breach is coming up next. What's that? You'll see. Dino. All right. What's up guys? It is time for data breach. Yes, the one and only John Breach. Sean, we're going to give you some numbers. You're going to give us some back. We're going to work through all these uh numbers that are glaringly obvious here in the NFL. Let's start with uh John Harbaugh here because um or Jim, excuse me. Sorry, John. Um Harbaugh sitting at 0 and4 there with the Chargers. And the number here is seven because seven losses in a row. And if you were wondering if Mike McDaniel's job was in jeopardy, it doesn't seem like that is the case at all. But Jim Harbaugh has now lost each of the last

seven games that he has coached. that is his longest losing streak across his entire not only collegiate and NFL head coaching career. Um so the last time that he was involved with a seven or more game losing streak was all the way back in 2000. His final season as a player as the Chargers none other than of course went 1 and5. So I mentioned McDaniel if you were wondering if his job is in jeopardy. Doesn't seem like it is. Jim Harbaugh saying his job is not in jeopardy. He's a skilled coach and we're going to keep growing. So that's certainly something you can say when you look at the schedule. I don't really know. But seven games lost in a row breach. What do you make of this and the decision to stick with Mike

McDaniel despite all of this and despite what is coming up next for this team on the schedule? Well, Jacqueline, I will say that you can't blame all seven of those games on Mike McDaniel cuz he wasn't at Michigan with Jim Harbaugh. So maybe this is a situation where Jim Harbaugh just needs to go look in the mirror and say, "All right, what we're doing here is not working." And we just saw that quote that Harbaugh gave that kind of vote of confidence to Mike McDaniel. The part in that quote uh I implore everyone to go find this video cuz there was about a 3se second uh awkward moment of silence before Harbaugh actually answered the question. And if you're Mike McDaniel, that probably didn't make you feel too

good about your job. But we are looking at the numbers here. The Chargers are averaging over 300 yards of offense per game. Their biggest problem uh besides that the offense is struggling a little bit is they turn it over all the time. We just saw Justin Herbert throw an interception and get strip sacked in that Seahawks highlight. That was two of three turnovers that he had. And so I don't think that firing Mike McDaniel this early in the season is the answer because then you're essentially starting over from scratch. You got to go out there and run something. Uh so I think for now you kind of ride out McDaniel until you get to that week seven buy. Then you can re-evaluate everything. But

for now it seems like the offense is a work in progress. So you hope you could end this losing streak at some point. But there's a very real chance they might get to that week seven buy with zero wins. and then we'll see if Jim Harbaugh will give another vote of confidence to Mike McDaniel. Yeah, I believe there was a conversation I think it was on Morning Box score. We were asking our team like, "Hey, when's the next time they can get a win?" And someone had mentioned the week seven buy is going to be a win for them. Let's go to Cincinnati, your Cincinnati Bengals. We see the map in the background breach and uh they get the loss to the Jags. Unfortunately, 54 and 15. Those are the numbers that we're

honing in on for data breach. Um the Bengals had 54 throws and 15 rushes in week four. And when he was asked about this, he had said previously, "Hey, let's throw it more." And that was on his 54 pass attempts. Breach, this is your team. This is your hometown. Is this sustainable? Is this the move for Joe Burrow? Jacqueline, this is not sustainable. Uh you do not want Joe Burrow throwing the ball 50 times a game. He's actually 1 and5 in his career when they have to throw the ball at least 50 times. And the other part of this is you certainly do not want to be throwing the ball 50 times per game when your star receiver in this case Javar Chase leaves the game in the first half uh with a concussion.

They also lost T. Higgins to an injury late in the game. So, uh Joe Burrow's out there throwing fourth quarter passes to practice squad players. And so that definitely is not what you want if you were the Bengals. The problem for Cincinnati is this offense is a notoriously slow starting offense. And a lot of that happens because they cannot get their rushing attack going. Uh they what they had 20 something yards. They only ran the ball 15 times against Jacksonville. And that is not a this year thing. I mean you can go back to 2023. They had under 75 yards rushing in seven of their first nine games. In 2024, they had under 75 yards in five of their first eight games. You go back to last year, they had under 60 yards

rushing in five of their first six games. So, this is a team that just cannot run the ball in the first half of the season for whatever reason. But, if Jamar Chase is going to miss some time, maybe week five, if T. Higgins has to miss some time, you have to get your rushing attack going. So, that's going to put pressure on Chase Brown, Joe Burrow, and Zack Taylor to kind of get that figured out. Yeah. And of course, we will keep you guys posted on Jamar Chase and T. Higgins and the very latest with that injury as well. Finally, breach, we got to talk about the ners and we do have a little bit of a math equation for you here. So, it is uh 75 plus 0

equals 4-0. So, that's 75. What is that you ask? That is the number of games that the Niners players have missed because of injuries. We add in zero, which is the uh number of times Brock Pury has been sacked, and apparently that gets you all to 4-0. That makes sense, right? You know, Jacqueline, I hope there aren't any elementary school kids watching right now cuz we are absolutely going to confuse them with our math. But yes, that is home run math. And if you look at what the 49ers going into the season, it was going to be brutal because once again, they're dealing with all of these injuries. And so, uh, what do they do is Brock Pury has come out.

He lost Ricky Perisol in training camp. The Deshawn Shriveling went down in week one. You had question marks with George KD coming into the season because he was coming off that torn Achilles. Just question marks all over the place when it comes to offensive skill players. Brock Py does not care. He has not got sacked and that's been a combination of so many things. The offensive line has been playing great. Pertie has a great understanding of what Kyle Shanahan wants to do in that offense. And Shanahan's great at scheming receivers open. I mean, Debo Samuel, they signed him off the street. He comes in, he's played a key role. We saw George KD have a huge touchdown catch against the Broncos on Sunday. You just see all

these players making big plays. And then with Pertie, his mobility is an underrated aspect. He can't get sacked if you can't catch him. He'll get out of the pocket. He still makes big plays or he'll take off. So this has just kind of been the perfect recipe in terms of onfield play. And once the 49ers get healthy, they're already 4-0. You can't be better than undefeated. So once the players start getting healthy, this team's only going to get better. So, they feel like a team that are going to be a Super Bowl contender all year, of course. And a reminder, if you're an elementary school child, don't pay attention to our equation unless you get some context from your parents. Breach,

we certainly appreciate it. Hang tight. We have databach 2.0 coming your way a little. So, where do I begin with this? Oh, go ahead. I'm I'm just saying every man on a Sunday night. And can we officially put to bed any doubts that there are surrounding Bryce Young and the Panthers need to pay him and re him up on a new contract? There was never any doubts for me. I saw it last year. He was second in the NFL in fourth quarter and overtime wins, comeback wins last year. So he has that clutch gene. I think he's taking his offense to a new level. And we talked

about it, Ran. Most of the pass catchers were out, right? He didn't have Coker. He didn't have leg. So literally, he had to force feed the ball to T. And when they tried to take Ted away, Metsie showed up in a big way. We even saw Darren Waller make a lot of plays. And you talked about Chuba Huard, which unfortunately is on Zack's fantasy team, who I'm playing. And I saw that you made that change at the last second cuz he wasn't in your starting lineup. But Bryce Young has played out of his mind the first couple weeks. I think the Panthers off is averaging close to 30 points a game. So, it hasn't been on the offensive side why they've struggled.

They've struggled on the defensive side for a majority of this season. So, I've loved everything that I've seen from Bryce. You're right. It's as far as if you're the Panthers, you have your guy. You need to get that deal done because if he continues to play like this, that price is only going to go up. Only my only pause for paying him is what is that number going to be. The market is what the market, you know, I always say that, right? The market is what the market is. But we also know and a agreed that the market is what the market is, but expectations come with that number that may far exceed what

that player's capable of doing. We have now we talked about pay Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield got 55 million and everybody was like, whoa, is Baker Mayfield going to give us 55 million worth of That's the market though. But I'm just saying it's just going to lead to more questions. I'm just going to say this. I love the balance in which they played with last night. a 300yard passer, a 100yard rusher, and we'll just say, uh, over 150 yard receiver, a balanced attack on offense. This is how you got to set this thing up. I love what they're doing. I love the way they're built. They're tough. They're gritty. They find different ways to win football. The defense makes plays when they have to. We saw that last

clip. A good compression tackle. And Le, I'm just speaking as a whole. I felt like we saw that a lot yesterday throughout the National Football League. compression tackles. And what I mean by that, if you got a guy and you throw an underneath pass, you got one guy on one hip, one guy on the other hip, and one guy in his face and just everybody just closes in. Get the guy on the ground, get the other team off the field. But going back to the point, what is that number going to be for Bryce Young? Well, to me, it has to start at 5055 because that's what the market is. And when you look at it, he took them to the playoffs last year.

They didn't lose that playoff game because of Bryce Young. They lost it because Matt Stafford was on the other side and was MVP Stafford at the end of that game. So, you're asking Bryce to carry this team with all the injuries and he's done it early in this now. This is a division that has really struggled, but right now they're top of the division. So, my thing is if your key is to win the division, he has you in place to win that and he did it last year. Like, what more do you want from him? Yes, you want him to lead you to the Super Bowl, but he also needs help from his defense. He has most of his play uh his pass catchers out right now. So to me, if you're the Carolina Panthers, you

need to pay Bryce Young because if you guys go back to the division, he's probably going to ask for 60 million and that's what the market is right now. So I would pay him. And to your point on defense, Devin Lloyd has been uh really darn good for this Panthers team. I miss him dearly showed up big yesterday. So we're going to go from Zach's team to Lij's team. We got to talk about the Jets interception that we saw in a long, long time. But some historic stats for the Bears quarterbacks here. They have three quarterbacks with 200 or more passing yards in a win through four games since 1950. And that is with Kayla Williams. Case Keenum who was what 39 years old and hadn't started a game in quite some time. Gets it done.

Tyson Beant then gets it done against the Jets. So gentlemen, what can we say about this Bears team being able to fight back, get it done, get these wins while Caleb Williams is out dealing with an injury? Leah, I think Ben Johnson has a pulse of his team and understands based off game script and how that game is flowing how they call the game. We saw it last week with Case Keenum, the Eagles and Vic Vanjo who routinely don't blitz, they blitz, but Case Keenum to your point has played a lot of football even though he hadn't played in three years. He's seen a lot of different defenses. He knew ran where exactly to go with the football.

This game was a little bit different. He kind of leaned on the run game and wasn't going to allow them to make mistakes. Now, the Jets actually won the turnover battle in this game and still lost the game because to your point, 32 offensive plays is what the Jets had. 32, let me say one. 32 offensive PLAY. YOU'RE NOT GOING TO win any game if you only have 32 offensive plays. And I thought Brilen Allen ran the ball well, but Frank Wright went away from way too early in that game. Any game where Garrett Wilson has three receptions for 27 yards should be illegal. It literally should be illegal. And that was the issue yesterday. The Jets defense actually fought really well and kept them in the

games. They had a turnover on downs a couple times in the red zone. They turned him over in the red zone ran. And then also when you look at that game, Brandon Stevens had a fumble recovery and then the Mika Fitzpatrick uh turnover. So that was just a game where the offense didn't show up for the Jets. But you have to give a kudos to Ben Johnson based off the game script. He knows how to win games. As a former running back, I'm gonna pop my collar a little bit here. You gotta love when a team turns around and hands the ball off 54 times. Understand? And I take this all the way back to what uh their GM Ryan Poles built a couple years ago when he started making moves, trading for offensive linemen and

drafting offensive linemen. They've completely rebuilt this front. And what that says to me, because Ben Johnson, regardless of what we think of him as in terms of throwing the football around, he loves to run the football. Sure. And what I love about this and the big guys that they have up front, this sets up for gritty football come November, December, January when they're playing outdoors. And then the elements of Chicago tells you that you have to run the football. Two 200 yard performances so far this year. Everybody be aware of how they're going to play you later in the season. And beware of Ran popping that collar ever since he can remember. He's been popping that.

You see it? You see the vibes happen. Uh Ran, where do you want to go with this game? Is it the Cowboys you want to discuss? Is it the Texans and just the disappointment there? I leave it up to you. No, I just want first of all, I want to show CD Lamb some love. I know there was a lot of question uh after they acquired George Pickkins last year and the type of year George Pickkins had who's wide receiver one in the space. It's clear who wide receiver one is. And you talked about that touchdown that put them ahead. That's the versatility of CD Lamb being able to move him around and you cuz you got him matched up on Jaylen Petri right there in the slot and that's a should be

a win for CD Lamb every time. They treated CD Lamb like a running back yesterday. He had 21 targets, right? So they were spoon feeding him the ball like we're going to get you the ball. Um like Le said, he had 17 catches on the day, played out of his mind. To me, he is the unquestioned number one wide receiver on that football team and is on pace to catch well over a 100 passes this year, which would be the fourth time uh in his career. So I just want to highlight CD Lamb. So you talked about the Cowboys, and I'm going speak on the Cowboys for a second and then talk about the Houston Texans, obviously. Uh what a second half by Dak Prescott. That is the guy that's been a top 10 quarterback.

I don't know. I don't know why people hate him. Like he's one of the top quarterbacks. The Dallas Cowboys maybe. And it's hard to play for that team, but they scored on four of their five possessions in the second half after the Houston Texans kind of controlled the first half. We saw Will Anderson become unblockable in that first half, but the offensive line really stepped up. Dak knew where to go with the football. You talked about Javante Williams with those three touchdowns. Let's look at the other side because for the longest, myself included, said this was the number one defense in football. They did not show it the second half. Like Dak Prescott had his way with this defense in the second half. The Miko Ryan is a defensive-minded coach. That's the last

thing you expect. Everybody had been complaining about the Houston Texans offense. Zack, they put up 30 yesterday. If you tell me the Houston Texans put up 30, I guarantee on a bingo call everybody would say they would have won the game. Second time this year that they've put up 30 on and lost. They've lost. We can't say this defense is elite anymore because they're not playing at that level. I talked about it on that touchdown. You asked me what happened. Zach, if you're Jaylen Petri, it's hard enough to cover CD Lamb. But if you give him free access and you're in a half turn, it's impossible to guard him. So, I don't understand why this secondary isn't playing up to the level that they

normally do. Also, the defensive line, they were a no-show the second half. like Will Anderson, I believe, on the one time that the Cowboys had to punt in the second half, he showed up on that series, but what we saw from them in the first half was totally different from what we saw in the second half and Dak Prescott had his way. So, there's some real concern with the Houston Texans. We saw last year they start 0 and3 and came back and made a run to the playoffs. I don't know if they can do this at 0 and4. And I stated this before this game, Ran. I said, "This was a must win for both of these teams." Cuz whoever loses this game most likely isn't making the playoffs. Cuz if you're the Houston Texans, you're

chasing the Jaguars. If you're the Cowboys right now, you're chasing not only the Philadelphia Eagles, but you're chasing the Giants, who are in the lead of this division right now. Yeah, you know what? It's certainly a disappointing outing for the Texans, who are favored to win the AFC South. Um, good day for Cowboys fans all around. They get the win and then they get to watch their bitter rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. know that Philadelphia fans are um a tough crowd whether you're the opposing team whether you know they're talking about their very own team and they certainly had

some words for our friends over at CBS Philadelphia. Take a listen. You couldn't spot a single smile as Crestfallen fans poured out of the link. Bad. Just bad. Not it for us. Just not it. You should have won that game. Some fans struggled to find words. I didn't like it. I mean, why would you waste time like, man, I don't talk about it. Fans went into the game knowing a lot of starters were injured. We got a lot of people hurt, but it's no excuse. But they said it came down to bad coaching.

It's just another excuse that you're going to use to say, "Hey, we didn't have players and bad field positions." Defense really didn't show up late in the game. Offense had a lot of chances to score. It is what it is. And as we know, during a lot of games, fans walk away blaming a coach. Today was no exception. Coach doesn't kick a field goal. Bad coaching again. Sirriani blew the game again for the unsmos times. We could have been up one point, up two points. Nick Serani. Nick, I'm sorry. Nick Serani got to go. Nick ain't it. Nick is cute. He's angry.

He can scream, but he doesn't make the team come out of halftime and be the team. What's happening at halftime? or are we eating meatball subs? While some fans walked out saying they were going to sell their season tickets, others said they'll still bleed green during good times and really bad. You know what? End of the day. Go Bears IN SOUTH PHILADELPHIA. Eva Anderson, CBS News, Philadelphia. Beverages being had

angry. Um, you guys, if you're if we zoom out and you have no context, you're thinking this is a team that didn't win a Super Bowl what, two season with that head coach and that quarterback. So, is it warranted, guys? Is Nick Serion need to be out or they Philly fans just being dramatic and complaining? I mean, that's just what on the East Coast it is when it comes to fan bases. They're passionate about their team. I said this a few years ago when they wanted them out and they went on that run to the Super Bowl. I don't think they understand what it takes to be a head coach in that city with that many

personalities. Now, I say that yesterday was 100% on Nick Serriani. You saw it during the highlight. You have to understand there's a es and flows to the game and how the game is going to play out. Ran inclement weather, right? It was tough for both offenses all day. Your defense was opportunistic in the first half. Both times that they got turnovers, you scored off of those turnovers. Why are you being ultra aggressive on your own 38 ran? They went for it on fourth down. Now, thankfully for Nick Cerriani, the defense showed up and made the Rams turn it over on downs because that could have been an awful call. But the life of me, it's in the fourth quarter. You're up by 10. Go up

by 13. Make them score two touchdowns because even if they do, at the end, you don't need a touchdown. You just need a field goal to win. So, it changes up the game plan. Markeel Bell was playing at the last second. They didn't even know he was going to play because um Lane Johnson at the last second wasn't going to play because of a personal reason. You can't put your young rookie offensive tackle in a scenario like that when the Rams are pinning their ears back. So to me, yesterday was on Nick Sriiana. I feel like he gets a lot of the blame when he shouldn't. yesterday was 100% on you cuz you had an opportunity understanding the way the flow of the game was going to go up by 13 in that game and you decided to be

aggressive and go for it on fourth down which gave life to the Rams and that's how they were able to score 14 unanswered and ultimately win the game. Hey, first of all, shout out to our girl Eva Anderson for bringing that cuz she was brave for standing them fans. She found the right fans at that. Yeah, she was brave. So, shout out to you Eva for getting that good work. So, we came into yesterday's game. Nick Serriani had gotten the best of Shawn McVey. He was Owen uh Shawn McVey was 0 and4 against Nick Serriani in their head-to-head matchups.

To your point, why be aggressive when you had all these things going to against you, inclement weather, you had your allpro tackle out, you had receivers out, you lost your back. And so, you take points when points present themselves. But where I want to go with this, and I'll just make it brief. This is where you start having the egos of these coaches against each other. And you don't make it about your football team. You make it about the person you're going against on the other side of the field. And that to me is what showed up. Shawn McVey, when we kind of laugh like, "Oh, Shawn McVey is excited about it." He was excited cuz he knew he was 0 and4 against Nick.

Exactly. And he wanted that monkey off of his back. And so again, and I know Nick Serriani and I've I've known him for quite a long time. To me, that was about ego. Correct. You know, and I get the aggression part because we've seen it out of Ben Johnson. We see it out of all these coaches now. For sure. But sometimes you have to check your ego on the field and say, "Hey, you know what? With everything we got going on today, let's just take the points." So if he's discussing the ego thing, I just want to throw in the one quote from Theion and let you take it from there.

He says, "You go for it and you get it, great. You go for it and don't get it. That's on the head coach." Is that taking someh Yeah, you can say that about any play in the game. My thing is you have to weigh the riskreward. My thing is you go for it, you get it. Say you're still shocked, you still got to potentially score a touchdown because I it was fourth and two, they got to score a touchdown there. But my thing is, you go up by 13, you make them score two touchdowns to win in an inclement weather game. Another thing that we didn't talk about, that was a must-win for the Rams, right? When you look at the NFC West and you're looking up at the Saints, not the Saints, but the Seahawks and the 49ers, if you go to one

and three, it's going to be tough to climb out of that hole. So, like that was a must win for the Rams, but I felt like the Eagles gifted them that game. All right, the Eagles will certainly try to get right against the Jacksonville Jaguars next weekend. Pause for that. The pond, right across the barn. Basically a home game for Jacksonville. Du ball. Let's go, baby. It's their first outright lead in the NFC East since week 11 in 2015.

They're eating the Dubs. They're up 3-1 at the top of the standings with Jamus at the top, guys. Um they're eating the dubs one week at a time, but how sustainable is this, Ran, for this Giants team when you have guys on defense like Deontay Banks who are really stepping up when it matters given the quarterback situation? How do you see this playing out? Is this sustainable for the Giants to stay at top of the NFC East? Well, they scored 36 points yesterday. Obviously, they got some points on the back end um from Deontay Banks in that pick six, but Jameus did turn the ball over twice.

They did. You can't continue to turn the football over, especially when you play good teams that are going to be coming up on their schedule, especially good teams within the division. So, is it sustainable? I'm going to say no. Um just for the simple fact that you got to take better care of the football. Um and so, again, I love the way they're playing. Dinard Wilson has this defense firing on all senators. They are playing how he coaches. He's a tough, hard-nosed guy. He has a saying because I was with Dinard and he his saying is dog. I want dogs. D A WG.

Yes. No question. Disciplined a-holes with grit is what his dog stand for. And that's how this team, this defense is playing. They are playing like dogs. You asked, is it sustainable? I say yes. Okay. And it's because they're able to be balanced on in running past. We've seen Jamus in his past going back to his days when he was in New Orleans play that kind of taper down Jamus where he doesn't turn the football and I thought he was ultra aggressive yesterday and you talked about it. That's the Jamus experience we get. But we saw the week before in inclement weather him take care of the

football and then win a game like that. And then when you look at their schedule, Ran, they have the Commanders coming up. They could be playing the Commander third quarterback that week. Then they play the Saints. We just talked about the Houston Texans being 0 for right now. And then the Eagles, like are we concerned that the Giants can't beat the Eagles? So like when you look at their schedule because they were the fourth place team, like I think this could be sustainable. John Harbaugh has brought his magic in. He's brought a tough gritty team in. They get after the quarterback. Yes, they lost Brian Burns, but they still have guys Abdul Carter showed up yesterday. We talked about

Deontay Banks, Drew Phillips on the outside, and Javon Holland. They have enough playmakers to make a run of this thing, but because of how their schedule plays out, I think the Giants could be dark horses to potentially win this division. I just want to shout out real quick. We saw LT at the beginning of the game. Shout out to the 86 Giants team, Super Bowl team, 40th anniversary. My pops on that team. So, shout out to all mys. Giants got the win for [clears throat and laughter] very welldeserved shout out there coming from Rand. And a shout out to make sure you pay attention to this next clip that we're going to show you right now. This kind of behavior from an official

towards a player is unacceptable. Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard. This game was on CBS on the sideline with our very own Adid Kingala. She said, "I was standing right there. What's wild is that it all started with Trey McBride saying please when pleading his case for a PI flag. He was heated for sure, but I never heard a curse from him." The harshest he got was, "You're ruining the game." And we saw what it looked like the official was saying back, some expertise here and there. The NFL is going to investigate this, Rand. How big of a situation and story is this? What do you think could end up happening?

No, this is big. And I'm I'm pretty sure that this official will be suspended. For how long? I don't know. I don't know what the full ramifications are going to be, but we see these officials each and every week. These guys, they're lifting weights now. They got the tight shirt, feeling themselves. So again to what JC was talking about we hold these players to a standard right there are penalties for players coming in incidental contact with the ref and so you hold these players to a standard but a lot of times you don't get what these officials are saying and these guys get a little chirpy and so if this the way that guy talked to Trey McBride had Trey McBride approached him in the tunnel man hey manto man hey come against me and say what exactly

then it would have been a different thing you can't play victim when you're talking to people like that and there's just a level of professionalism that you have to uphold. It's just been a weird start with these officials to this season. We've shown multiple highlights where like there were clear no calls and they threw their flags. Like your job first and foremost is to officiate games, not determine games. And it wasn't just this incident in New York with the ref and Trey McBride. We saw me and R were just talking about it. Wilson, the linebacker, accidentally bumps into a ref and he falls down. and he gets up and just starts like dog cussing him for

no reason. And what's like dude, I got pushed into you. I'm trying to help you up and he didn't even want to help. So, it's just like I get it. A lot of testosterone out there as a ref and players, but it's at the end of the day, it's a professional thing. Like, you have to be you have to show some type of prof professionalism and you can't be cursing at players because like you said, Ran, if it was the other way around, they would have blew Trey McBride up, maybe even find him for that. So, like it again, it's just been a weird start with these officials to start this season. So, are players not normally cursing back at officials in the first place when they're complaining? Is that not happening normally?

I'm not going to say it doesn't happen, but you just heard Ade. She said Trey never cursed once during that interaction. It Zach, it happens, but it's usually follow up with one more time, you're getting a penalty. Correct. Right. But there's no penalty on the other side if the official does it to you. Mhm. Good inside information. That story is nowhere near being done. We will figure that out as the rest of the day and week moves on. And of course, we show you this. The Giants saying thank you. There were those who were hating on them, but

three people giving them a little bit of props. The Giants getting that dub. We're back here with Breach for that data breach. And like Jacqueline just alluded to, John, it would be very boring to show all the penalties and that highlight. So, we didn't show it. But man, the amount of laundry we saw out on that field yesterday was astronomical. There were a lot of flags and so usually that means maybe that one team is playing sloppy football, but Jacksonville and Cincinnati both got penalized a lot. The combined 24 penalties, we see that more of the Bengals had rushing yards, but I'm not

sure that it was necessarily sloppy football. To me, the refs just went off the rails all around the NFL yesterday. Man, you guys talked about the situation with Trey McBride, the official. Uh there another one in Minnesota where the official and Eric Wilson bumped into each other and they had a thing and now the NFL is looking into that. And then there were penalties everywhere. I mean, the Chargers Seahawks game, there were a total of 30 flags thrown. That was the most penalty flags in one game since 2003. It's been 23 years. And so when you look at yesterday's slate and there were two games, you look at that Jacksonville Bengals game uh also where there were 24 penalties or more, that just seems like that's an official

thing. That's not necessarily these teams are playing super sloppy football. So I think that fans don't want the game bogged down by penalties. It does seem to be like the officials got a little bit ticky tacky in week four. And hopefully that doesn't keep happening cuz we had 11 teams total that were flagged at least 10 times which is just an incredibly high number for a single week. Yeah. And I think that we don't really want uh the officials to become the storyline of what we're talking about here on a Monday morning. And yet here we are and we will continue to have that conversation. Next portion of the

conversation though brings us over to the Baltimore Ravens and you look over to Lamar Jackson. Things are not good right now with that injury that he went down with the ankle. We'll see how it is. And it should come as no surprise at all here, Breach, that the Ravens are very good with Lamar. They are not very good without him. Look at the difference in points per game when they don't have Action Jackson out there. How concerning are these numbers? Yeah, absolutely concerning. When you have a two-time MVP at quarterback and there's a chance he might miss some time, you should be 100% concerned. So, you look at what the Ravens offense does. He makes everything go. Now, I do

think that Baltimore would feel okay putting Tyler Huntley in there. He's the backup quarterback. He started two games last season and went 2 and 0. And they brought in someone who has a similar skill set to Jackson because of that. They can kind of run a toned down version of the offense. But it's an ankle injury and that's that's kind of concerning here because if you want Lamar Jackson to play like Lamar Jackson, he's got to be able to be mobile. his ankle's got to be 100%. You kind of have to take that into account when you're trying to figure out how quickly he can get back on the field because if he can play on Sunday in week five against the Falcons, but he's only 85% and he has a chance to aggravate

that ankle injury, you don't want that cuz you need him for the long run. So, I think this is a situation where the Ravens are going to have to wait uh till he's as close to 100% as possible. And if that means riding Tyler Huntley for a few weeks, then you do it. They've got two road games coming up against the Falcons of Brown. So, it is going to be interesting to see what the severity of this injury is. Despite losing Lamar, they did get a six-point victory, which leads me to our final data point for us right here. The fact that games have been so close around the league to this point of the season right now, and it seems like no

matter what the level of competition is, these teams find a way to make it go all the way down to the wire. We had 23 games decided by one score in the past two weeks entering Monday Night Football. There's been 38 30point games, which is the second most through week four. And there's been 18 games decided by a game-winning score in the final four minutes or OT. You see these numbers and this means what to you, Breach? Yeah, this means to me, it feels like my theory on this is that there are just no bad teams left in the NFL. Every game's close because every team is so almost even to every other team. And I'm going to specifically look at the winless teams that kind of make this

points. I mean, the Chargers win to Seattle, zero wins, one-sore game. The Dolphins, zero wins, just lost their superstar offensive player, Devon Aan, went into Minnesota, who has the best offense or the best defense, one of the best defenses in the NFL, one-score game. You had the Texans winless. They go toe-to-toe with the Cowboys. They lose by four points. Another one-sore game. The Tennessee Titans, the team we just talked about, an 11 and a half point underdog. Somehow another one-sore game going on the road in Baltimore. And of course, the Buccaneers with an undrafted rookie quarterback, a one-score game against the Packers. So, when even the bad teams are playing uh

just competent football to keep these games close, that's how you get all these one-sore games. And I think this could end up being a record- setting season as far as the amount of one-score games that we see from now until January. And breach, you know what's good about the one-sore games is makes people stay locked in to CBS to keep those ratings going up because you got to watch from the very beginning to the very end. He's John Breach with the data breach. Thank you so much, my friend. Appreciate it always. And you should always keep up with us here on HQ.
