Imagine driving through a desert where your radio cuts out, your compass spins wildly, and strangers vanish into thin air. It looks like a place you'd want to avoid. But many do go there, including a curious couple in the mid-70s. One day in October 1975, Ernesto and Josefina Díaz drive their truck into the Chihuahua desert in Mexico. The couple is interested in a specific area of the desert known for its unusual rocks and fossils Ernesto and Josefina are not scientists. They're just amateur collectors looking for a bit of fun. But the fun ends when they notice dark storm clouds on the horizon. This is an area where flash floods often occur, which can cause a lot of damage. So they get into their truck and drive away as fast
as they can. But they don't get very far before torrential rain turns the desert road into a trap. The truck struggles to gain traction, sinking into a deep trail of mud. They start pushing, trying to get out, but there is so much rain and mud that it is useless. Just then, something catches their attention. Two pale, tall figures with yellow hoods who appeared normal. A very strange sight in the middle of the Mexican desert. They don't say anything, but in seconds they push the truck to free it. The couple jumps out of the truck to thank their new friends for the help, but they're gone. No vehicle tracks, no footprints, nothing.
This is just one of the many unexplained incidents that occur in this area of the desert known as the Zone of Silence. The Zone of Silence is a stretch of desert about 31 miles wide where there is a history of strange phenomena. However, the best-documented stories began in the 1930s. Mexican aviator Francisco Sarabia was flying over the Chihuahua desert one day when his radio suddenly went out. No noise, no static, nothing. Then he realizes that all his instruments are also going crazy, acting erratically without any explanation After that, other planes passing over the area also began to report similar phenomena. For many people, this makes this area the terrestrial version of the Bermuda Triangle. Although there are
striking similarities, the Zone of Silence has its own special kind of rarity First, the area is the site of a large number of meteorite impacts. For a region only 31 miles wide, there were three major clashes in the 20th century alone. In fact, two fell on the same property. Then, in 1970, the American rocket Athena veered off course after being launched in Utah and somehow ended up crashing right there in the area. After the rocket crash, NASA rescue teams also began to experience very strange behaviors during the rescue operation. Some workers inexplicably went out into the desert, only to return and claim they didn't remember leaving. Others report seeing strange mutated animals and unusual lights in the sky.
The most curious stories are the tales about tall, light-haired Nordic beings, just like the ones Ernest and Josephine saw in the desert. Witnesses claim that these Nordic beings speak perfect Spanish. They just ask for water and then simply disappear without a trace. To those who have asked the Nordic people where they are from, all they say is simply: "From above." Our next unusual place is much closer, although it is even harder to reach. July 2008, a group of young people in their 20s walk along Ditch Plains beach in South Fork, Long Island. They see something ahead that makes them stop dead in their tracks. It
is a bloated, hairless corpse with claws, a long jaw with sharp teeth, something between a dog and a pig. But it also has a kind of beak and pale, almost human-like skin. They had never seen anything like it before. The photos of the corpse made it to the internet and the thing soon received a name: the Montauk Monster. This strange specimen disappeared before there was a chance to conduct a scientific investigation, and there are many rumors that this monster is some kind of animal hybrid created by top-secret research. It would seem like a far-fetched theory if it weren't for a heavily guarded area just 14 miles from where the monster was discovered. Plum Island.
Plum Island is the location of one of the most infamous laboratories operated by the United States government. Theories about the island date back to the 1950s, when a scientist named Dr. Erich Traub was hired to run the laboratory. Traub is one of the many Nazi scientists who were smuggled into the U.S. during Operation Paperclip. This was an effort to harness the best minds of the Third Reich while protecting and concealing their identities from the American public. Traub served in Heinrich Himmler's SS scientific department creating biological weapons. And in some cases, their ambitions went even further, far beyond conventional science.
The Nazis tried to create new species and bring extinct ones back to life. For example, the Heck cattle, an unusually aggressive breed of bovine that exists in Europe today because the Nazis experimented on Spanish fighting bulls and other breeds. Given the Nazi legacy of the facility, conspiracy theories speculate that the Montauk monster may have been an experiment on Plum Island to create a new species, something like crossing an eagle with a dog. They also claim that other strange corpses have appeared on the coast, only to be immediately removed by unknown groups.
Regardless of whether those claims are true, Plum Island's long-standing secrecy has fueled decades of speculation. And years later, when an inexplicable outbreak occurs nearby, it only fuels suspicions even further. In 1975, residents of Lyme, Connecticut, began contracting this very debilitating and deadly disease, eventually named Lyme disease. Now, the town of Lyme, Connecticut, is only 7 miles from Plum Island across the Long Island Sound. And some theorists suspect that the bacteria being studied on Plum Island, possibly to turn them into weapons, escaped from the facility. Then, in 1993, an explosive report was published claiming that Plum Island scientists had actually been weaponizing bacteria, including Rift Valley fever,
which causes the victim to bleed to death. Something similar to Ebola. Nazi scientists, biological weapons research, top- secret experiments, the connection to hybrid animal monsters. All of this is very difficult to prove. There is no clear, irrefutable proof. But, at the end of the day, conspiracy theorists remain unconvinced that only harmless research is conducted on Plum Island
