Solo Tent Life With Rescued Dogs and Two Horses Gets a Cozy Home Makeover

A solo camper turns a simple tent into a cozy home by adding furniture and decorations while sharing life with two horses and a German Shepherd rescued from the side of the road. The video offers a glimpse into the challenges and emotional moments of suddenly caring for large animals and a rescue dog in everyday off-grid tent living.

Everyday life living in my tent alone (with horses & dogs). | Transcript:

In today's episode, I'm finally getting around to decorating the tent with some furniture and turning it into a home. Oh, dear God. I also share some updates on the German Shepherd I rescued from the side of the road. Give you a glimpse of what it's like to suddenly live with two horses. And I have a bit of a meltdown because of the news. That's a lot for one little YouTube video. So, let's go. I don't even know how to start this video, honestly. So, I'm just going to say the thing that's on my mind, and that is that this is probably the most anxious and worried that I have been in many years, maybe ever. Frankly, I've

been so disturbed by all the news about AI hacking into various systems. It's honestly horrifying that we're just allowing these tech corporations to toy with humanity's fate. I honestly want no part of it. I'm trying not to let the news get to me, but it's difficult. Anyway, let's get on with it. I want to show you what the tent is looking like now. And I want to show you the horses. And I want to show you all the nice real things, the actual real things that exist in the real physical world. You know, you're so lucky that you don't have to think about this stuff. You're just a good sleepy boy.

Well, I have been living in the tent properly for a good couple of weeks now and I am just so in love. Just the like that canvas lifestyle is so much fun. Even if it is getting cold now outside, doesn't matter. I just I still love it. So, I kind of want to show you some of the improvements that I've made. And today I also want to move a couple more pieces of furniture from the shepherd's hut into the tent to make it even better. So, welcome to my still incomplete but much more complete home. Look, some people might call this chaotic. I call it eclectic. Doesn't this bed look so cozy? I have really been enjoying sleeping in a real bed.

It's been so much fun. And then of course, V's bed is right next to mine. He sleeps in this corner. This here is my current kind of clothes rack. I've only been wearing like two things, so it has worked, but I kind of want to bring the rest of my clothes here, which we will be doing later today. And then we've got this really cool um what do you call it? A I want to say coffer, but that's a German word. Why am I thinking coffer? Not a box. It's a not a sarcophagus. It's sar, you know what? I'm just going to call it a sarcophagus. This is my hand painted sarcophagus that I bought um a couple of years back as well that I've just had in storage and I was just waiting for the right moment to bring it over here and it fits here perfectly. And next to my

ornamental sarcophagus is a little chair also hand painted. Um also old I mean this is ancient. So, that is the state of the tent right now. Let's bring in some more furniture to kind of see how it looks when there's a little bit more going on inside here. And then after that, I'm going to show you what the horses are up to because there have been some changes. Now, see, already I feel a lot better just talking to you guys about the here and now of my land, of my home, as opposed to just being in my head and focusing on the horrors, the potential horrors to come in the world of the internet. Spit little.

And if the zombies come or the AI bots come, this is what we're going to do now. Good boy. Yeah, that's what we're going to do, huh? So, just in case you're wondering, I did manage to beat the door mice and I no longer have a door mouse problem because I have moved out of the shepherd's earth. The door mice are still definitely up there. They are. That's just what they do. But, uh, I no longer hear them. So, win-win, I would say. I did have to move out of the shepherd's hut anyway because the roof is going to get renovated sometime soonish. What am I going to move? What do I want in the tent?

The lamp. More books obviously. And I definitely want this little table cuz it is quite handy. these rowan beads that I made uh from the Rowan tree because these are supposed to keep evil spirits away. So maybe they'll also manage to keep the evil AI robots away. This came from the rowan tree on my meadow. So all the more special. And I'll grab this as well. Well, the rowan beads are going to go right in the heart of the tent just in case. Just in case of what, you might ask. I don't know. Just in case.

Okay, I'm going to be serious for a moment here. So this whole like AI apocalypse scenario like whether you believe it or not, I think it is just worth considering that AI is smarter than a [snorts] human coder. And therefore a lot of the human systems that we have designed like the banking system you know online banking and banking security and all that stuff all those things were designed by humans who are not as good at coding and hacking as AI. So why would we assume that we are safe from AI in that sense? Like why would we assume that our money is safe from AI if it's on in these big online banking systems if AI could just literally do this and break in? That's that's all I'm saying. And I feel like that is where

my mind, like when I realized that, that's where my mind really started racing and thinking like, well, they could, you know, mess up so many of the systems that our civilization relies on for peace and order. And I guess I'm just wondering how long this peace and order is going to last if AI is becoming so powerful. Chill. Chill, chill. Got land, got animals, I've got water, I've got supplies. I don't need power. Technically, definitely don't need it to survive. Oh god, there's one more really cool thing that I want to add to the tent, and that is an armchair. like my dream armchair that I've been wanting to get for years.

This chair is about to become like the nicest thing I've ever owned. Look at that. Oh my god. I can already tell it's going to be so good. It feels like sitting on a cloud. Oh, you know, I am so excited about this armchair because I have been waiting for a moment to get this armchair because this armchair to me represented this moment that I would get to sit down at home and read a book in my own armchair after a long period of travel. So, this feels like my zen chair. My spiritual chair, don't even think about it. This is my chair. Okay. He's like, I dibs the bed anyway. That's fine. In case you're wondering where this

armchair is from, it's from a Swedish furniture designer called Norel. And uh I had this armchair gifted, but I've been eyeing it up for a very, very long time. So, this feels like a match made in heaven. And now and like this is the moment. This is the moment. Also, shameless plug for my book which is now available in German and Dutch as well and will be available in Polish next month. [snorts] Uh this is the moment. This is the [snorts] This is it. This is peak living. Oh yeah.

So, I've had this all-consuming thought since the beginning of the year. And the thought has been to make my life more analog. My original plan was to spend 1 month this year completely offline. Not just from social media, but from the internet as a whole. No online banking, no WhatsApp, no Google Maps. What would it be like to just not use the internet at all for a few weeks? I've run the thought experiment in my head many times and yeah, it's definitely doable, but we've become so dependent on having instant online access to everything that going offline would make everyday things a huge hassle. I didn't manage to take my offline month this year, but I'm going to make it a priority for 2027. That is assuming AI

doesn't shut us all down by then. In the meantime, I'm just going to find small ways to make my life a bit more analog. Spending less time doom scrolling and more time smelling the necks of my horses and reading books. Sometimes I'll just sit here and wonder to myself, is this real? [snorts] How is it real to have both my horses here and to live side by side with them? I was so nervous before they came over here. I was so nervous that it would be really stressful, that I wouldn't manage it, that they would hate it for some reason. But they just came over and pretty much right away they felt at ease and at home and now we're living together.

I live with my horses and my dog. This is madness. Oh yeah, I also need to catch you up on Atlas, the abandoned German Shepherd that I found a little while ago. That's coming at the end of this video. So, normally at around this point during the day when it's kind of getting dusky, I lead the horses back to there's like a smaller part of the pasture over there that's next to the tent and that's where they spend the night so that I can hear them throughout the night. And we need to feed Bliss some extra food because she's a little thin right now. So, well, as you can see, this whole area is Excuse me. Don't bully her.

Shaman really likes to have all things to himself. Anyway, as I was saying, please no bullying. This whole area is an absolute mess. This is just behind my [clears throat] my barn and I need to kind of like figure out how to make it not a mess, but this is what it is right now. So, just to deinfluence you, I don't know, like in the horse world, everybody shows off these perfect stables and everything is perfectly arranged and gorgeous and aesthetic. Well, this is the reality of mine. In case you're wondering how I got the skills to take care of horses on my own, well, I don't really have them yet. As with most caretaking type skills, it's something you just have to learn on the go, and it comes with experience.

But to speed things up, I am doing a bunch of online courses. I'm consulting with horse people in my community, talking to trainers and dieticians and vets. It's honestly been a huge learning process in the background. I don't share the nitty-gritty on here because it's not really relevant to the channel, but trust me, the learning curve in the background is huge. All right, I'm going to give in. Shaman's going to get a little bit of watermelon. I feel bad for him. Look at Vil just standing there by the tent. In case you're wondering what Vilk's relationship with the horses is, well, he's a little bit scared of them.

Actually, especially he's scared of shaman because when Shaman and Bliss first came here, um Vil was basically being a little bit too intense and he was running in circles around them and annoying them and just being a bit of a menace. So shaman decided to take things in his own hands and he kind of bluff charged V a couple of times and then V also got zapped by the electric fence at the same time. So that created natural aversion and now V does not want to hang out with the horses. He prefers to avoid them. Honestly, that suits me just fine because I think my biggest source of fear was that um one of the horses would kick Vilk because he was being too annoying. And now that's probably not going to happen because

Vilk is just like he would much rather hang out at the tent than out here with the horses. Pour your watermelon. I know you love it so much. There you go. Listen to this. I love that sound. There you go. It's okay. Let's go. Go outside. And of course, in he goes to see if there's anything left. Good girl.

What? Are you mad at me? Come here. Are you mad at me? Yeah. Look, you can smell the horses. They're also part of the family, you know. I know you don't like them right now. It's okay. Come on. He can smell. He's so pissed. Look, buddy. It's okay. They're your friends. Come here. Come here, you goober. Come here. Yeah. You forgive me? Do you forgive me for hanging out with those really big dogs? We're doing those really big dogs. Yeah. Such a goop. You're such a goop. Yeah. I'm sorry. It won't happen again until tomorrow.

Oh my gosh, this gel smells like strawberries. What is this? Are you on my bed? You look so cozy in there. Dinner tonight is going to be super basic. Um, usually I'll like cook something very simple, but like made from fresh ingredients, but tonight I just can't be bothered. So, I'm gonna make this really nice like canned food that I sometimes have when I can't be bothered, and I'm gonna mix it with some beans. So simple. So good. I don't know. Maybe I'm safe here from the AI apocalypse. [clears throat]

How are we feeling today? Did you have a good night's sleep? Yeah. He did. All right. You might be wondering what is up with Atlas, the dog that I rescued from the street a little while back like 6 weeks ago. Well, I have got some good news for you. So, last week, Atlas actually went to another home. I hope it's his forever home. But it's a home in the city where Atlas can get proper socialization with kids, with people, with animals, with dogs, and where he can get proper vet care. That dog has incredibly advanced hip problems. Um, and he will most likely need surgery, potentially even a hip replacement. Um, and there's just no way that I can help him with that here

because the nearest specialized clinic is 2 hours drive, one way from where I live. Um, so I found him a family that really wants to take him in, but they have cats, so the situation is kind of fluid and we're trying to figure out if he can live with cats. In the meantime, they're taking great care of him and um getting him to the vets, getting him socialized, doing training with him. Um I'm still sponsoring Atlas in everything that he does. So, I'm still paying for all of his food, for all of his vet care. I'll probably be paying for his hip prostthesis if he needs one. Well, I might do a fundraiser for that because it's mighty expensive.

Um, but I know that he's in very good and very loving hands right now. So, I'm not worried about him, but it definitely hurts not to have him around. And I just hope that he can get along with this family's cats and that they can have a perfect happy ever after together. But yeah, giving him up was very difficult for me. Can you wait? Oh my god. Can you Here you go. Here. Here's your food. Fast. I need to shovel some cuz that's my life now.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Back. This is not how this is meant to go. Oh well, I guess it's done now. Yeah, that's how it was meant to go. Horses really produce so much manure. It's actually kind of insane. If you're a parent to a human or a dog or horses, you'll probably understand me when I say that actually I quite enjoy this job because it allows me to look at their poop and just make sure that everything is all right with their poop.

A very big marker of wellness is how your poop looks. Today's poop radar says everything is a-ok. Okay. Yeah. You made that. You created it. Yeah. You're the artist. How do you what do you think about your work? Huh? Like what is this weird apparatus? What is this weird apparatus? Treats.

Come on then. Let's go. Yeah. Free at last. Come here. Yes. Don't worry. You're safe. Look, they're all the way over there. Do you want to help me? Want to help you with some chores? Okay, let's go. Can you not pee on their hay? Thank you, sir. So, fun news. Remember all that time and energy I spent on cutting down my own grass and making my own hay for the horses? Well, news flash, they won't eat it. Apparently, this hay is from grass that's too mature for horses, and they don't find it palatable. Awesome.

Are you getting used to the horses? Yeah. You getting used to them now? Yeah. Still so weird. That's okay. You'll get used to them. I know. It's so weird. So many changes. Poor boy. Come here. Oh my god. You can really see autumn and autumn colors coming in very slowly. Every day I wake up and I look out onto the trees and the hills around me. I just spot just a couple more yellow trees in the distance. Slowly, slowly, it's creeping in. Not sure if I'm ready for it. [snorts] I bet you're ready, huh? For the colder temperatures.

Speaking of this AI takeover thing. So, you know how I decided not to have human kids, but I decided also at the same time to have animal children or just to have animals in general. And I'm thinking like, okay, it's great that I have horses because I could use them for transport if, you know, there's like no gas and no diesel. Um, but maybe I should also get hens for eggs. Although my neighbor has incredible eggs from his hens. And maybe I should also get like goats for milk so I can make cheese and butter. That's one way to survive the AI apocalypse. And be you're going to be my guardian, right? Going to be my bodyguard. You're going to be the alarm system, right? And the guardian. And the bodyguard. And you're also going

to hurt the goats. Yeah. You're going to hurt the goats. Yeah. You're going to do a protect. I know.
