Possible Cause of Bering Yacht Sinking, Could it Be That Simple? | SY News Ep617. | Transcript:

This is Superyacht News in association with Go Earth boating, navigating boat buyers to better deals. Hi, welcome back to the channel. We got a lot of uh incidents to cover today. So, we'll get straight into it. This first one is partially partial sinking of a private yacht. This was in Salamina in Greece. Uh, it says, "A luxury yacht has partially sunk in Greece after taking on water whilst returning to port, prompting an emergency response from the Hellenic Coast Guard. The incident happened at a Vulcari Marina on the island of Salamina. This was on the 30th of June. Uh, according to the report in Greece, it said the yacht had just completed what appears to have been a routine sea trial or test

voyage and was maneuvering back into the marina when things went got out of hand. Uh authorities say the vessel, which was sailing under a Polish flag, began taking on water shortly before reaching its birth. Within minutes, the yacht developed a heavy list and started settling into the water alongside the marina. There were few five people on board at the time. Uh no injuries. Everybody was evacuated safely. Now, they don't know what the cause of it is right now, but what's interesting is they said there was no reports of a collision, of a grounding or a fire or anything like that. But what's interesting is that is they said it was

on sea trials. Uh we don't know any more about the we don't know the name of the vessel so we can't look it up but uh it doesn't look like a new vessel. So it's probably had some work done on it. Sea trials normally happen after you had work done on a vessel. And they could have so they could have been doing anything. You know they could have had a new shaft fitted, new shaft seals, things like that. So they go on a sea trial for this very reason to see if that if everything's normal. Well, apparently it wasn't on this vessel. Uh so yeah. So um yeah, we don't know. We don't know what uh the cause of the sinking was, but uh yeah, we'll keep you up to date. If you know anything more about this, if you're in that area in

Salamina or if you know more about it, if you maybe you're on board, please be sure to get in touch, the email address or the WhatsApp number on screen. We'll move on another sinking, this time a ferry in St. Kits. Now, we've got dramatic footage here of the moments after the ferry sank. Uh this happened on the 29th of June. So the day before the Greek sinking, there were 47 people on board this ferry, including six crew, so 41 passengers. and the footage shows the vessel almost completely sunk in the water. It happened just a few minutes after uh that the boat left the port. It was heading from St. Kit to the island of

Nevice. So the full title of the islands there is sink hits and Nevice, right? So it was heading over to Nevice and within a few minutes it started to sink. The passengers on board said they heard lots of noises coming from below and then they were all asking what was happening and then within seconds water started to come inside the vessel. Now like I said luckily this happened close to the port and as a result there were many vessels there to give assistance right away and also start um stated that the crew handed out life jackets very quickly and they were readily ill available so everybody managed to get a life jacket on before they went into the water. So the best news from this story is that nobody was injured and nobody had

any serious injuries. We also got word uh from a post that there was a US Army swimmer as a passenger on board who helped to help you know helped other people and there was a post on the uh Facebook page. She says that the name of the ferry was called Apple Cider. And um the person said that the their very close neighbors uh were passengers on board. And she said she and her sister and her US Army husband say that they were on the pier barefoot and wet after having to jump in the water, losing everything they had with them on the ferry. And they said that the ferry just left the pier 5 minutes to NeAs. And uh and the that's where they said their husband, who's a US military swimmer,

helped to rescue people also. So really dramatic um scenes there. Must have been quite traumatic for everybody on board, but luckily everybody was rescued. No serious injuries reported, so that's a good thing. You can see all the people rushing to the scene to help pull people out of the water. Now the SCPA, that's catchy. Or the St. Christopher Air and Sea Port Authority advises that the relevant authorities are conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of that incident involving MV Apple Cider uh in the Basetera Roadstead on Monday morning uh July 29th, 2026. If you've got any more information, if you're on board, maybe please be sure to get in touch and we'll uh we'll we'll uh

we'll be interested to get some information from you. All right, guys, we'll move on. Now, you remember, you no doubt if you watch regularly, you'll know this story. We talked about a yacht that ran ground in the Exumas um in uh in December 2025. The yacht was called Double Shot. We've covered it ever since. The vessel was grounded. The captain left the area because he said he had an injured leg, never to return. The vessel was left grounded there. Um we speculated that it could have been a deliberate grounding because it grounded twice in the same day. The first time it was pulled off the rocks by a tug and then they went into this area uh into near this marina here and then they ground it again and then this time it couldn't be

moved. Well, that yacht we just got some footage through a couple of days ago. That yacht is still there. Uh as you can see by the footage on screen and the photographs, more than eight months later, the double shot is still grounded. It's been moved. It looks like they've towed it from the rocks around the a corner a few hundred meters away. Um, and it's just left there. Eventually, it's going to get broke into pieces by the tide coming in and smashing it up against those rocks. Uh, by this time any fluids that were on board have already gone, so it's just a wreck. Now, uh, it's really unfortunate.

Now, we identified the owner in previous episodes. Double shot is owned by Mega Mia LLC, which is has complaint against that has many complaints against it and a number of leans, which I'll go into. It's owned by someone called Michael Oaid. uh and formerly Diana Wade, but she's she's been removed as own and now they've been divorced. The yacht was allegedly operated by B under a Burbo charter by Jetski Exotics LLC controlled by Akmed Ramsey Muhammad which likely places primary legal responsibility for the grounding on the charter operator. Um, but the owner could still face uh liability such as wreck removal and environmental claims. But based on the records, jet ski exotics appears to bear

the main operational responsibility for the yacht. We mentioned these in previous videos. We've done a number of videos over the last few months. But based on publicly available real estate records, Michael Oaid, the owner of the boat, appears to work as a real estate agent with A&M Realy LLC in Miami Beach. He's listed with a Florida license number on screen. uh 3637098. Uh and his office information is tied to 1800 Collins Avenue, Sweet 10E, Miami Beach in Florida, 33139. It's got leans against that yacht. So, this is why there's probably no real benefit to um to recovering that yacht.

Probably paid out on insurance as well. Uh 18,750 54,600. Anyway, I'll put the list on screen, but it totals $162,000. This includes unpaid mooring fees in Miami. So, it's it's interesting, isn't it, that all this unpaid money in Miami and yet the guy's working in Miami as a real estate agent. Anyway, we've been covering this story about the yacht that sank in Turkey, um, the one that was built by Burring. And what's interesting is somebody sent us a page from a Turkish newspaper. And we had a bit of trouble getting it translated. It's still not a brilliant translation, but one of the things it says is I'll put I'll show you the picture of the newspaper on screen here, but it says it

says on the night of May 30th, while she was anchored in Syninnop Harbor, they started to take on water as a result of the garage door remaining open and on the morning of May 31st was rescued as a result of feverish works. This is, like I said, I don't know how good this translation says. authorities about the incident made statements about the rescue operation. Now, it goes on in the story and it's it references a ship engineer uh Barat Dermis, but we don't know if that means he's the engineer from the ship or he's just a ship engineer, but it he says that the reason for the sinking is water entry from the garage door. So, yeah. So, the story suggests that the garage door was left

open and then but then in the story it says that the water was entered through the garage door. Now whether or not it meant that the door was open or whether or not it was a fault after that work that was done, I'm not sure. But there's no other reference in the story that we can see to that. But we've obviously we've contacted the people who did the salvage. We've contacted the um the uh shipyard that did the work on the yacht and nobody's answered so far. Uh but we've asked them, is this the case? Did was the garage door left open? Um but nobody's got back to us yet. If somebody does, then we'll we'll bring that to you. But yeah, it's quite a shocking uh thing to see that

somebody left the garage door open. Now, we don't know if the garage door we don't know what time the yacht sank. I know it sank at night because there's a photograph of it sinking and it's still and it's dark, but it could have been 9:30 at night. You know, it's quite off of off quite uh common for the garage door to be open if there's a tender in the water and then usually before everyone goes to bed, they close it, you know. So, it could have been that they were still working. I don't know. But it's not unusual to have a garage door open when especially when you're in port like that. Um, you know, you wouldn't think there'd be any issue. But they did say there was torrential rain

that night. So, it could be that, you know, but it's still it would still be unusual for a yacht to sink just because it was raining heavily. H if the door was open uh and it was unmanned because on the large yachts that I've worked on, I can't speak for the smaller yachts, but on large yachts when there's a door open, there's always somebody there. On the big yachts, they have security. There's always a member of the security team there. So, if anything started to happen, you would know really quickly, right? Also, there should have been billage alarms, flooding alarms, and stuff like that. So, I don't know what was happening. Don't know what was happening on that night. Uh we've been unable to get any answers about it. Anyway,

right. So, anyway, we'll move on. If you've got if you're watching and you know anything, please be sure to get in touch by the way. Now, we'll move on. Uh we mentioned in a previous video that Motach Graceful, a yacht that's been linked to Vladimir Putin, was spotted sailing off the coast of Denmark. And we also mentioned that what the other uh news stories seem to not notice was that it was being shadowed by a vessel called the Voda, which is also connected to Vladimir Putin. It's supposedly a search and rescue vessel, but it's got private apartments on board and it's spent 10 years being built and it spent three years on sea trials. It was built in a shipyard that normally builds nuclear

submarines. Um, and that vessel was shadowing the superyacht. Right? Now, in that video, I said that uh they'd sailed from Kiningrad and they were sailing out towards the open ocean, the North Sea and the Atlantic. Right? And I said that in that video I said most likely once they cleared the straits because they've got that, you know, they're passing Norway and Denmark and things like that. And I said that they probably broadcast an AIS because it's the first time Graceful had broadcast her AIS since 2022 when she left Germany. And I said she's probably doing it because they don't want to give the authorities of those countries any reason to go and board that vessel and say, "Well, you're

not broadcasting AS because it is against international maritime law, right? Although the captain of Nord doesn't seem to know that." Um, but I said that it's unusual that they're broadcasting, but that's probably the reason why. And I said, "No doubt. Once they get into open waters, they'll stop broadcasting." Well, well, guess what? Uh they're not no longer broadcasting AIS. On the 29th of June, uh the um Graceful stopped broadcasting. And you can see where she was at the time. I'll put her on screen here, AIS. And then the Voda the following day also stopped broadcasting. Now, the she'd advanced further and she'd gone around and she was headed up past um past the coast of Norway there. head actually pointed in the direction of the

Shhatland Islands, which is part of the UK. Um, but she stopped broadcasting as well. It's possible that, you know, cuz she was shadowing appeared to be shadowing Graceful that the Graceful was also headed in that direction. Or it's also possible that they separated and went in different directions. I don't know. But if you're in that area, be sure to let us know. Maybe in the Shhatland Islands there. Maybe there's any of our viewers are up in the Shhatland Islands. I'd keep an eye out there to see if that vessel's on the way. It's unlikely. I don't know where the vessels are heading to be honest. I have no idea. I can't even come up.

Normally I can come up with an idea of where they might be headed, but at this point I have no idea to be honest. But yeah, we'll be interested. Keep your eyes open. If you see either of those vessels, let us know. So yeah, anyway, that's all we've got for you today, guys. Please be sure to check us out on Patreon.com/isman. It was because of our patrons that we were able to go to the Monaco Grand Prix recently. Uh because we don't make an awful lot of money on those videos any longer. used to, but since uh since last year, YouTube has changed the algorithm and the it's much harder now for us to get our videos out to the people who even subscribe to the channel, believe it or not. So, um yeah, check us out patreon.com/sisman if you

want to support the channel. You're not just giving money for no reason. You are getting extra videos behind the scenes. We posted probably 15 videos uh while we were in Monaco on that channel uh or on the patron channel, should I say. So check us out patre.com/gesisman. And also if you've got any footage, video footage or photos, be sure to send them to us through the link in the description there in the and also in the ticker there. We transfer one. We're working on a system to make it easier so you don't have to use we transfer.

Hopefully that system will be up and running by next week. We'll have to do some testing though. So yeah, so we'll bring that to you as soon as we have it. All right guys, thanks for watching. Please be sure to like and all that jazz and I'll catch you in the next one. Bye-bye.
