Good morning. I'm Jacqueline Matter. It is 4 am on this May 28th and I'm Julie Donaldson. Thank you for starting your morning with us right here on Fox 5 and streaming on Fox Local. Here's what's happening today. Well, right now at 4, following days of rainy, dreary weather. We will finally see some sunshine today, but with it comes the heat and temps expected to reach the 80s. Our weather team tracking it all. Plus, a former CIA official is now behind bars. What the FBI found inside of his Virginia home. And a Pepco push back. Frustrated customers speaking out against a proposed rate hike. Why Pepco says higher prices are necessary.
Well, good morning. Appreciate you joining us on this Thursday. And Julie Taylor, today is the day we have all been waiting for. Finally. What is that? No rain. No sunshine coming. Anything better than what we've been experiencing the past what nine days it was. Yes, it's been a It has been a stretch of weather, that's for sure. So, finally we're putting an end to that this morning. There's a couple of showers out there, but it's almost completely out of here. We're going to get a nice sunrise,
a beautiful day on tap. The humidity will eventually drop off as well. So, a fantastic day finally to get outside and enjoy it. And this will be the start of a nice stretch all the way through the weekend and into next week. though. I will check on that 7day coming up. Julie, well, new this morning, a former CIA agent has been arrested following a raid of his home. Now, according to Fox News, the FBI raided David Bush's Russia's Virginia home and discovered $40 million stashed of gold bars, $2 million in cash, and 35 luxury watches. The push has uh Russia has one of the topest highest top security clearances in the US government. We reached out to the FBI for more information and we are still
waiting to hear back. And happening today ahead of a scheduled is and a hearing is scheduled in the case of whether to suspend Percyville Vice Mayor Ben Net. Now this comes after Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger signed a law making it possible for a lawmaker to be suspended from office pending a criminal trial. A jury cleared net of accusations that he retaliated against the city's police department after a failed bid to make himself police chief. And a man is being held without bond in connection to a deadly shooting at the North Bethesda Marriott. Terrence Williams is charged with killing Quinton Davis. Police say that Davis was staying at the hotel when Williams shot him on May 14th. According
to court documents, the victim's girlfriend said that the two knew each other from prison and recently had a falling out over property. Williams allegedly stole from Davis. Prince George's County police searching for a bank robber. This happened last Monday at the truest bank on Denell Drive in Forestville. Police say that he slid a note to the bank teller demanding money and then walked out past the customers. Now, surveillance cameras did capture his arm with a distinctive tattoo that reads quote pain. And this like me looking right here.
Hello, I'M READY TO GET CAUGHT. PLEASE CATCH ME, GUYS. IT WAS ME. It was your mom. IT WAS ME, GUYS. I TOOK the money. I'm sorry. Now, it is still unclear how much cash the suspect is accused of taking. Detectives are offering a cash reward for information that leads to his arrest. Nine people are still missing after a paper mill explosion in Washington State. This morning, they are feared to be dead. Now, a massive chemical tank holding 900 million gallons of the corrosive liquids imploded.
Officials have confirmed at least two people are dead. The priority is ensuring responder safety while treating every victim with the greatest dignity, care, and respect as possible. One individual transported from the scene on Tuesday uh succumbed from their injuries uh bringing the total number of confirmed fatalities uh to two of those transported. Officials say that the chemicals have not gotten into the air or drinking water, but they are still warning nearby residents to stay away from ditches.
Well, monthly power bills could be going up in Maryland. Residents showing up at a meeting last night protesting the new rate hikes from Pepco. If a commission approves that proposal, the average residential customer would see a more than $10 monthly bill increase. Coming up at 4:30, we'll hear from upset customers and have a response from Pepco. About a dozen new data centers could be headed to Prince William County. Three proposed projects are in the early stages, but plans from developers like Amazon, they're already sparking concern. Now, sites are slated near a retirement home near Kan High School in Prince William Forest Park.
Residents are packing community meetings to voice their opposition. They're citing noise, pollution, and hidden utility costs. I'm thinking a spike in energy bills and a spike in water, too. Water prices. I'm thinking that I need to go to the meetings and I need to make my voice heard that I'm against this because that's just insanity. The community association with the Four Seasons retirement home says that members are currently in talks with developers to scale back the footprint.
Now, Fox 5 reached out to Prince William County about the projects, but have not yet heard back. All right, 4:05 this morning. Let's get a look outside uh out towards National Harbor this morning. We were all kind of talking a little bit about how uh when we were coming into work this morning, we saw a few rain showers out there, a few sprinkles. Yeah. The roads when I was got on the roads, I said they were wet and I was ready to wash my car because I thought the rain was going to be all done. Taylor, I decided to wait one more day and I was glad as I was driving in because there were little sprinkles and the roads were splashing up. So, the roads are still wet. We still have the last bit of showers moving through
the area right now. So, we're almost said and done with it, but not quite yet. Still seeing uh some showers out there at Reagan airport. Uh Dallas and BWI, you're dry though with uh temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s. On top of that, it's still extremely humid outside, but all that's going to change by the afternoon. Upper 60s to low 70s with the temperatures for now. Here's a live look at uh the radar showing those showers still kind of unfolding across DC and points south and east. Uh we'll keep it out there for the next couple of hours, but we're at the tail end of this. It's almost out of here. Once it does, this front will kick through and that will pull in that cooler and drier air for the rest of
today, the rest of the week, and all the way through the weekend. So, a great day on top for outdoor plans. Finally, we deserve this. Sunshine's back throughout the daytime. The humidity will drop off as temperatures get into the upper 70s. Heads up, it may be a little bit breezy at times, so it's something to keep in mind. There's a look at the afternoon, excuse me, high temperatures for everyone. Jacqueline, Taylor, thank you. Taking a look at the roads right now. Let's take a look at 295. If you're headed southbound this morning, looking good. 5 minutes between Kennallorth Avenue and the 11th Street Bridge. No real delays across the region this morning out towards inbound US50 New York Avenue. You're seeing about 9
minutes to go four miles between Kennallorth A and the Third Street Tunnel. As you can see, a few of the wet roadways there that Julie had mentioned before Taylor's newscast. So, keep that in mind. But, uh, hopefully we're going to move that storm system out of here. 395 northbound, 9 minutes to go 10 miles between the Belway and 14th Street Bridge. Well, a 2-year-old girl has died more than a week after a deadly crash in Oakton. The driver and another passenger died at the scene on I66 in Route 123 on May 17th. Police say that the driver was going nearly 120 miles per hour seconds
before hitting a median. An 8-year-old boy who was wearing a seat belt is now the sole survivor in that crash. We've also now learned the name of a man that was killed in a Fairfax County hit and run earlier this week. Detectives say 60-year-old Jose Jimenez of Falls Church was hit on Tuesday morning while crossing the street on Arlington Boulevard and Patrick Henry Drive in Seven Corners. Police still looking for that silver sedan that they say hit Jimenez. And now to a Fox 5 exclusive. A DC woman is speaking out after police say that she was sexually assaulted inside an Arlington County parking garage.
25-year-old Crystal Vasquez Sanchez was taken into custody Monday accused of sexual battery of a woman in the Columbia Forest neighborhood last week. Now, investigators are trying to determine whether there are other possible victims. He proceeded to pin me to the wall um outside of the stairwell. He unbuttoned and unzipped my pants and he put his hand in them. I kept telling him, "No, stop. Um let me go." And he told me to be quiet. I know that with assault and stuff, guys can get out in months, but like if more people come forward, we could make sure that this guy is off the streets.
The suspect is currently being held without bond in the Arlington County detention facility. Well, the case against a Lowden County public school super substitute teacher is now going before a grand jury. Loud and now reporting at a hearing, witnesses testified that 19-year-old Hayden Dollar made threats against John Champ High School on the messaging app Discord. Those threats were reported to the sheriff's office through the Safe to Talk app. Maryland sheriffs, they are filing a lawsuit to try to stop a new law preventing them from working with ICE. 17 of the state's 24 sheriffs have signed onto the suit to stop the Community Trust Act. Now, the act limits how local law enforcement works with
ICE. It follows legislation planning formal agreements between local governments and ICE. Now, they've taken it a step further to shut down every avenue we have to communicate with ICE to share information with any uh immigration enforcement officer whatsoever. It just means that um when individuals are being booked and coming into our jails and other facilities that there has to be a due process um in place. Now, both sides say what the other is doing will hurt public safety. Well, Democrats are moving to block President Trump's $100 million arch in DC.
Virginia Representative Don Byer introducing a bill yesterday. It would stop the construction outside of Arlington National Cemetery and prevent federal funds from being used on similar projects. The president did not get congressional approval for this 250 ft arch, but a federal panel that he appointed did recently give it the green
