First tonight, a Marine veteran's speaking to Fox 5 after he says a group of teenagers tried to steal his truck at gunpoint. carjackers even fired a shot before the man was able to disarm them. The confrontation was caught on camera. It is our big story tonight here at 10:00. Shamari Stone's live in Oxon Hill tonight with our top story. Well, tonight the four suspects are in jail and this former Marine says that he is fortunate to be alive. Now, people in this Oxon Hill community says that they picked the wrong person to allegedly try and rob. Now, during the struggle, the shot was fired and I want to bring you a little closer here on Fox 5. We bring you closer to the scene. You can look
right here. This is the bullet hole where that bullet went right through here. Why is this significant? Because this Marine veteran has children. A child could have been sitting right here in the backseat. That video could have traveled hitting the child and plus he has his four-legged friend right here. And this is Sky. Sky, as you can see right here, is usually sitting in the backseat right over here. So, he's happy that Sky, his children, his brother, the Marine veteran are all okay. Now, let's show you that surveillance video. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Surveillance video showing Jaco Borda working on his pickup truck near Oxon Hill High School Wednesday around 4:45 in the evening. Now, take a look at the
four teens walking near him on the sidewalk. One wearing a backpack and three others all dressed in hooded sweatshirts. He says they demand his car keys, phone and other valuables. The teen dressed in red, white and blue pulls out a gun and points it directly at Borda's head with the other three suspects surrounding them. The teen becomes distracted and in a split second Borda fights back to disarm the teen. Borda's brother runs up to help and listen, the gun fires during the struggle. Fortunately, no one is shot. The bullet hitting Borda's truck and then one of the suspects tries to jump in, but Borda's brother turns around fighting
back grabbing that teen and they hold the suspects down until Prince George's County police arrive. Meanwhile, you can see Sky their dog checking on his owners to make sure they're okay. Officers arrested all four suspects. You're now going to hear from Jacob Borda. How are you feeling tonight? I'm feeling grateful. I'm still here and safe with my family. And how were you able to disarm the teens? Tell us about that. Uh it took me just one split second. We went to the to training for the Marines and that came right on the moment. What should happen to these suspects and do you hold their parents accountable?
I hold the parents accountable cuz they're still minors but I do count they should be more accountable for it. Cuz I mean they did it. They knew what whatever they're doing. You're now looking at a live picture here. Mr. Borda says it's going to take some time to fix his truck. It's going to cost around $2,000 because he says the car insurance company will not cover it. As for Sky, well, he's again happy that Sky is okay. Now, if you have any information, additional information about what happened out here, call the Prince George's County Police Department. In Oxon Hill, I'm Shamari Stone. Back to you. And we're turning to weather right now.
77° at Reagan National, a live look at Frederick, Maryland tonight. Carroll Creek, all is quiet at this 10:00 hour. Yeah, but looking forward into the morning and the start of our weekend, Mike Thomas standing by with hopefully some good news. Well, more sunshine on the way and even hotter temperatures as we work ourselves into the end of this work week. 89° just missed 90 this afternoon in DC but with that sunshine and man, it had a summertime feel to it. Dallas 86, Baltimore hit 88°. Average high this time of year. Lower 80s, 82. So, we were well above that and will likely stay well above it right through the upcoming weekend. DC right now has fallen back to about 77°. Dulles a little bit more
pleasant out that way at 65. BWI Thurgood Marshall 73. Couple of passing clouds here and there. Skies though generally on the clearer side. Again, you just have this one little stripe of clouds coming across out of Pennsylvania, but that's about it. Otherwise, look how quiet the entire region is and the radar should look a lot like this again tomorrow. Maybe a few more clouds in our sky during the afternoon, but generally speaking a quieter leaning day. So, early morning hours going to pleasantly cool for you. 63° around sunrise at 5:44 in the morning. Then after school, here we go. Now, that's some big time heat. 94° while DC Baltimore will stay well clear of our records. They're in the hundreds
from the 1920s. Uh Dulles' records don't go back that far. So, Dulles could actually set a record tomorrow. They get near that number. Their record high just 92°. Sunset tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. We're going to keep that 90s going into the weekend. Maybe dodging a storm or two. We'll talk more about that coming up in just a few. Guys. Tonight, the manhunt is underway for two women charged with murder after one of their mothers was found dead in a Silver Spring apartment. And Fox 5 Sydney Persing is live outside of that building tonight with everything we know at this point. Sydney?
Well, police say they found that 67-year-old woman dead at a senior apartment complex here in Silver Spring. And tonight they say her very own daughter and her daughter's girlfriend face first-degree murder charges and at this hour are nowhere to be found. I want our viewers at home to take a quick and close look at their photos. These were provided to us by Montgomery County Police. Police say on the left, that is the victim's daughter, 29-year-old Vanessa Jungero Henderson of Clarksburg. On the right, Police say that is her girlfriend, 36-year-old Samantha Rabel of Phoenix. Investigators tell Fox 5 just over a week ago on May 26th and at 11:00 a.m. they came here to the Charter House Senior Community to perform a welfare check on a 67-year-old
resident named Hildy Henderson. When they arrived, they said they found her dead. Police have not revealed exactly how she died, just that after an autopsy her death was ruled a homicide and now her daughter and girlfriend have been identified as suspects and are again charged with first-degree murder in connection with her death. I just spoke with two residents here. The second you're about to hear from said he actually knew Hildy Henderson and even believed he'd seen her fight with her daughter before. To learn that it was her own daughter allegedly that might have done this, your own daughter. Shocking.
Shocking. But in this day and time, not too shocking cuz you hear about you watch Dateline, you hear about it all the time. Well, I'd pray for her. Most definitely. I mean, that shouldn't happen. Especially in a senior citizen's building. That should never happen. You had the audacity to kill your mother? I mean, what does that say about you? I was surprised, you know. Cuz she was always nice. I always talked to her, you know. But, you know, what can you say, you know? They're my kids, you know.
Couldn't stop them from going in their house. So, detectives have warrants out for the couple's arrest but have not been able to locate them tonight. They are asking anyone at home with any information to please call 911 or visit the Crime Solvers of Montgomery County, Maryland website. That is crimesolversmcmd.org. You can click the link at the very top of the page that says p3tips.com or you can go ahead and call the phone number. That's 1-866-411-8477. If you have any information, again, if you think you might know anything at all, police are asking you to please come forward and share that information with them. And they want to remind folks at home that if you do have information that leads to an arrest, you could be
eligible for a reward anywhere between $250 and $10,000. More stories we're following tonight. The woman shot and seriously hurt in Upper Marlboro earlier this week has now died. 29-year-old Kayla Richardson was shot allegedly by her ex-boyfriend on Tuesday morning outside of their home on Bertie Lane. Police say Dontae Morris drove back to his home state of South Carolina after the attack. He was found dead Tuesday night from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Brendan Banfield will be sentenced tomorrow. A judge denied his attorney's attempt to set aside his murder convictions. He was found guilty earlier this year of killing his wife and another man in an attempt to run away with his
family's au pair. Banfield faces a mandatory life sentence. The au pair took a plea deal and testified against Banfield. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The FBI's investigating anti-Semitic graffiti at a synagogue in Montgomery County. The Shaare Tefila synagogue in Olney was targeted with swastikas back in February. There's now a $4,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Montgomery County School Board approving a controversial budget that eliminates 415 jobs. The decision was met with outbursts of sadness and rage by staff, students, and parents. This is all a result of a $36 million funding gap. The
majority of jobs cut affect student support services, literary specialist, and security positions. I'll pay for this. I'LL PAY HIS LIFE. CUTTING anything related to special education is absurd. It will impact our most vulnerable students. We are not funded at the same level that we were. And you'll say, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, Dr. Taylor. I thought that uh this was the largest budget in school system history." Every year is the largest budget in school system history because inflation goes up, costs go up every single year.
Well, officials say the structural funding issues that put MCPS in this position are not going away. It's likely to be just as bad or worse next year. President Trump calling for more changes along the National Mall. He wants to build a new promenade behind the Lincoln Memorial connecting it to the Potomac River. He suggested even naming it after himself. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum says the proposed walkway and pedestrian bridge would open up waterfront access for millions of visitors. Meantime, water is once again flowing into the
Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool. This comes after weeks of renovations that started back in April. Crews power washed and fumigated the pool before coating it with a blue rubber layer designed to prevent leaks. The final cost is expected to be about $13 million, much higher than the $1/2 million that President Trump first quoted. Strong opposition voiced today against President Trump's proposed arch near Arlington National Cemetery. The public comments came during a National Capital Planning Commission meeting. There were nearly 1,700 comments shared on the commission's website alone. 99% of them were negative.
We do not need this monstrosity of an arch that is built to be built. It couldn't possibly be more unimaginative or unoriginal or uncreative. It's not about left or right. It's not about the height. It's not about whether Congress approved it or not. It's about that's in that cemetery. Well, there is no final decision so far. The Trump administration argues the arch is part of an effort to cultivate national pride. It comes with a $250 million price tag. Well, the president's name is coming off the Kennedy Center
after a judge ruled adding it was illegal. A center spokesperson says they're complying with the court's order and it's not just on the building itself. Kennedy Center lawyers say email signatures, letterhead, and other documents must also reflect the name as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts or the Kennedy Center. The changes must be done by June 12th.
