"A LIABILITY!" Manchester United Fan WOULD NOT Want Cristian Romero as he's Set to Leave Spurs. | Transcript:

Uh Tom, how are you doing, sir? What have you made of United's transfer dealings this window so far? Actually relatively impressed. I mean, the simple fact that we've moved quite quickly um and not dragged our heels over a few pennies here and there is um is all right. It would have been nice to get Edison um had he not have had the injury, it would have been lovely. Uh but I mean I think it's okay so far. Do what do we need? Probably another defender. But I was listening to the other caller that was um well I said to your uh to your guy when I going to answer the phone, lack of words, we don't need another midfielder. We've got enough midfielders. We've got enough attackers.

We need to solidify the defense and I think we'll be all right. I genuinely believe has got an antidote for what's been happening. And if he's got some control over the transfers already, I mean, I'm all for it. Tom is of course referring to Laconic John, who we spoke to just before the news. If we had known that was his full name, he wouldn't have taken the call. I think it's an interesting point. If you look at, say, you know, look at the top five in the Premier League last season, you'd say Arsenal and Man City are, you know, should head and shoulders above the other three. But part of the

reason for that is because they didn't concede hardly, you know, anywhere near as many goals. you know, Man United, Liverpool, and Aston Villa all had big problems um keeping the ball out their own net. All conceded way over a goal a game on average compared to, you know, their rivals who finished first and second. So, I think that's a really interesting point. I also agree actually with the idea that Manchester United doing some business early is actually a really refreshing thing. Everyone knows that may not have got money. everyone knows they will basically quite invariably spend it and they get shaken down and to go in and get Tielemans early to go in and um and to and to sign um Andre Santos early as well. Look, I don't know if

we've any of us have seen enough of Andre Santos yet, but clearly he's highly rated and it's in a key area of the pitch where they've just lost Casemiro and of course as we've talked about Mason Mount can't be relied upon. I expect him to do more business as well and probably presumably you'd be the same Tom. Yeah, I look I like I say if we can get a if we can get an up and coming I would have absolutely loved to have got that first defender that's gone to Brighton. Viskovich. Luka Visco. Yeah, Viscovich. Sorry. Yeah. Would have loved to have got him because I actually think that he's kind of he's got something to prove. He did so well while he was out on loan.

Yeah. He's really highly rated. It's a big fee as well, wasn't it? What's Yeah. What's Why are we not in for people like that? Tottenham, by the way, have been smart there as well. Buyback claws, matching claws, like everything that they can possibly put in there to bring him back as well. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, he's he's he's got everything. He's a bit like I don't want to compare because I also think that given that Spurs have done so poorly over the last two seasons, you shouldn't. But he's a bit fan of Venice.

He's got play. He's got the height. He's got the jump. He's got the pace. and he's got the knowledge. He's so young. What is he 19? Tom, what's what's your um We're talking about the Tottenham defenders. Don't fancy Christian Romero then. Yeah. Um does do I need to respond after the laugh? No. But do you know what though? I'm curious as to why you think that because clearly he was unsettled at Spurs. Clearly he's a bit of a character. He's got, you know, he does a good impression of a, you know, someone who's been lobbomized occasionally, but he's he's he's been really crucial starting off Spurs

attacks. He's a re, I think on his day, he's really actually really good. And I think if you if he was to be, you know, motivated by the fact that Man United are a bigger club than Spurs and he's, you know, on a stage where he feels like he deserves to be, if that's the type of character he is, I don't I wouldn't be laughing about it. So, I'm not saying you necessarily need to agree with me, but I think he's a decent player. I think if you if okay so if we kind of do a comparison if you've got a myth that treats you really nicely careful 90 85% of the time no I would take 85 I mean but then 15% of the time you know there's all sorts of catastrophic stuff that goes on

I don't know like it's it's the guy can tackle the guy can pass But he is a liability. If he loses his head, he loses it bad. Yeah, that's my worry. I think anyone that knows me or my misses knows that the catastrophes are all coming from this end of the conversation. Don't you worry about that, Tom. Great call. 03717234 if you want to have your say on United. The Christian thing though, genuinely Arsenal, there were all sorts of talks that maybe I mean Tottenham fans hate him enough as it is already. Imagine if he ended up going across North London.

It seems like Athletic is going to be the landing spot now. And actually for the quality of the footballer he is, I think 50 40 50 million quid is not bad for him. It's best they move on from him. It's best that he goes for sure. You know that news about the Arsenal interest broke um when I was on the radio with Angelina the other day. The problem is the difference between that and say the Soul Campbell situation which is the thing that springs to mind immediately is of course that Soul Campbell was out of contract. For Christian Romero to move from Spurs to Arsenal, it requires Spurs to agree to deal with Arsenal. and

there's no way they can manage that situation without coming across as essentially betraying their own fans. So to me it feels like a non-starter team, right? Even though I don't think Christian Romero is above it. I think he would absolutely do it. I just don't think the club factor would be would really realistically happen. So yeah, I agree. I think Spain is probably the best destination for him and that looks most likely. Um but yeah, I genuinely think Romero if he could be if his if his mindset could be channeled and he could be, you know, could be consistent. I just think his quality I watch I think he's a brilliant defender who just has moments of madness fast. But listen, will you know the one thing

that goes unsaid I think about Romero I watched Spurs in live a lot last season without him they missed him so much in terms of him his ability to start off their moves. He's a great ball playing. That's why they've gone and got Sessi and Van Heekka because they know they're going to lose Romero and the other ball playing center backs. It's crucial to how they're going to play under Deserby. So I think Romero could do well somewhere else. I just think it's gone stare and a bit toxic actually and his mentality and his personality just exacerbates it. You know, keep the calls coming in 03717234. One team who whilst maybe not a long-term option could do with a Christian Romero day one of the season considering how few center backs they've

got is Liverpool and Wayne has called us Liverpool fan. Evening to you Wayne, how you doing? Oh, how you doing? You're right. Yeah, very well power. Wayne, is that a Brummy accent? I heard sounds like it. It is. Yeah. Brummy Scout, tell me how did you become a Liverpool fan? When I was a kid, I love the My favorite color is red and I just sported Liverpool from that reason. And who would be your Birmingham based team if you had to support one? Birmingham City. Okay. Right. I really didn't expect to do my favorite color was red, but I absolutely love it. Uh Wayne, what do you make of the Liverpool transfer

business and this backline you're going to start the season with? To be honest, Ro, I'm just really concerned because um I just don't want us to go on another crazy spending spree. Basically what that's done last season we've inflated the market and now everybody who we're interested in they just put like about 50% more on the asking fee. So we've sort of shot oursel in the foot there. Um to be honest [clears throat] right last season we should have got you know someone like Kyle Walker in because you know what we've got a massive imbalance in the side right now. We're bringing all these young players in and we're following um Chelsea's like you know the same model and it's just not worked. Do you know what I mean? We've blew all

that money and what do we have to show for it? A Champions League place which we just about got on the last day of the season. It's just a bit of a disaster at the moment. I think the fullback area is like a really interesting lens through which to view this through. right when Liverpool go and win the league um and also when they won it in 2020 you know you know Robertson and Alexander Arnold really strong in the fullback position for different reasons and then they go and get Kirk and Fong you think okay they're going to strengthen in that area because Kirk are highly rated you know Friong again is was talked about a lot hasn't really worked out

now they just look absolutely bereft you know it's it's a really difficult situation they're in I'll be honest with you personally for me I just I think we need a whole new back four to be honest because I just don't think Kirk and Fing Pong are good enough. I really don't. Fring pong is Kirz is good at going forward but he just can't defend. I'll be honest with you and that's my concern. Um just [clears throat] one question on this Wayne right because the Fong situation is fascinating to me because he's not a right back. He doesn't look like a right back. At leaken and under Jabonozo in the system we were talking about earlier on.

He played in more of a wing back role, but after that he moved up and was playing right wing. Came to the club, told everyone, "No, I'm a right back. I want to play right back. That is my best position." Chiefly because there might have been a player ahead of him at right wing that might have been picked every week. You know, but honestly, the one that has been floated a few times in recent weeks because it hasn't been a great success in his first season at Real Madrid. Would you have Trent back? Oh, 100%. Not. Oh, I'd have him back in a heartbeat. I really would.

I thought he was a rat, though. No, you know what the thing is, right? You only get a chance in a lifetime to play for Real Madrid. And I know he's hurt a lot of Liverpool fans, but I think, you know, I mean, you've got to give him credit. You know, it's his life. You can choose what club he wants to go to. You can't give it, you know what I mean? You can't deny him that. But I just feel that, you know, if we had him back, you know, the team are the team better without him or with him. Do you know what I mean? I think that we're a better team with Trent. You know what I mean? I just think, you know, just give him another chance. And I'd love But the irony being though, the irony being that like the way that a lot of

Liverpool fans behaved when he left would surely make him more reticent to want to come back. Definitely just to prove a point as well. Do you know what I mean? It's just one of those things. And I just think, you know, you can't deny him an opportunity like that. It is life, isn't it? I think the signing of Dumpries I think it's genuinely a transfer that could happen if someone wanted to go and get Trent Alexander Arnold. It'd be amazing if he ended up at a different Premier League club. If someone else went out there and went and got him. Yeah, I think also as well I think that we definitely need a midfielder like Adam Watson as well. Do you know what I

mean? Because like you know we just haven't got a ball player in that midfield. It's so weak at the moment that midfield. It really is. Do you know what I mean? We definitely need a midfielder like Adam Warton. Yeah, that patient buildup under slot became so frustrating and particularly when you've got it was just boring. It was just Yeah, there's only really I mean you give Echique definitely give him at least a pass cuz he was good until he got injured and he was especially given the kind of what he had to deal with the whole ESAC circus in the same position as him as well but other than that well who was it he you know showered themselves with glory last season outfield for Liverpool Grain Burch and Subosa probably that's probably it you know

undoubtedly listen Wayne really great call appreciate you getting
