And we have a special guest here coming in, Miss Arino Sabalena. How are you? Very nice to see you. Welcome. Thank you for coming in, Lucas. How are you? You're only the second This is for you. You're only the second person to go say hello to him. You know who the first one was? Someone that's won a few majors. I know you've won a few. Yes, exactly. That's how you call it. So that's class. You see, all classes. Not even close, but I'm happy to be in this group. We're very happy to have you here. What were your emotions like all day cuz you were seeing this whole thing going on with Yanik and then the heat. Go ahead. Tell me what you were feeling.
I felt so bad for Yanik. I really I'm always cheering for him and sad to see, but I'm pretty sure he'll be back even stronger than ever. So, I hope he's well. And yeah, that's that's tough to see honestly from the favorite to win. And um but the but for you personally cuz you're trying to prepare. You're trying to figure out when you play. You thought you were going to play like he was going to be done in an hour and a half. Yeah. I was more than sure that I'll go on court like around three. Uh but to be honest, uh I kind of like happy that I went a bit later because we played in the shade. It was a bit, you know, uh bit more chill and not that hot. So
uh kind of like things turns turn really turned around really good for me. But uh still, you know, sad to see a few of the people that work with us here that have try to make us look good and sound good. They said to me just before we started said, "How do you tennis players do this like deal with these conditions, play?" So explain to everybody sort of maybe how your preparation changes when you know you're going to have to deal with extreme heat. Here is unusual like Australia, we're used to it, New York, we're used to it. But what do you do differently? Well, I have to say I survived uh Miami a couple weeks in July. I survived uh Dubai in September which is like extremely hot conditions and I have to
say that I'm kind of like okay with this heat but I'd say that I try to stay like extra hydrated uh um yeah make sure that I drink electrolytes and uh and during the match stay cool uh ice all over you know and uh if there is a little shade I will go there and kind of like cool down a little bit. So I guess that's everything you can do. I got a question for you. you uh have been working to improve your game the last couple of years. I mean at what point or has it been your whole career that you were like all right because I noticed when was it last August? Correct me if when you hired Max Mierney. Yes. I'm guessing that was to sort of improve your play at net.
Yeah, exactly. Um I felt like it's really much needed in my game especially against someone like Koko. Uh like uh my opponent today um remind me her name. I'm so sorry to say that. No, no, no. The name. Her first name. Yeah, I think it's Elise. Alise. Elsa. Sorry. Elsa. Sorry for that. Um, Ela. I mean, she forced me to go on the net. And I felt like I was good in doubles, but you know, game on the at the net in singles is a bit different. So, I felt like I have to improve that. And
yeah, that's that's why Max is there. But, uh, to be honest, it's not only for the net. He's a really smart guy, you know, analyzing a lot and helping a lot with different stuff, me and to Anton. So, he's a big part of the team. You're you're getting used to being coming into these majors now as number one, you know, being the you one of the favorite certainly you're the favorite and probably on their hardcore tournaments. You're one of the favorites here. How has that changed your outlook when you come into the tournament? I'm, you know, I've I'm going to be number one. I'm number one.
I think I'm not really focusing on that. I kind of like trying to focus on myself. I feel like the moment you shift your focus towards the wrong direction like focusing on the ranking and I don't know whatever it's not going to help your game. I feel like anyway you have to go out there you have to fight you have to bring everything you have to just like bring the level and bring the fight. So that's what I'm focusing on and every time I have small opportunity to practice and to work on something to you know improve my game to um yeah to bring new things I'm trying to work on that and just trying to be you know ready for lit literally whatever on court you're big on social media and you have
a lot of fun uh you do a lot of dances and all types of things. I've never been on it once in my life. We're trying to get him to go on it. That's better you know. Do you think Cuz I'm I was going to ask you cuz I'm debating now. They're telling me I was trying to start this tequila company. You'll be huge. You're such a legend. What do you think I should How do you think I should approach that? I mean, you are you doing it every day all the time.
I just feel like on social media, you have to be you. I feel like people just want to see your life outside of tennis court like what you do like uh I don't know how your schedule looks like, things you like. just so people feel connected and especially you know next generation they know that everything is possible that I'm just the same girl with the same hobbies that they have uh I was going through the same journey that they've been going through and they're going through. So I feel like on social media you have to be yourself and you have to show like something outside of tennis court and just share your thoughts. I feel like I mean if you're going to go out if you're going to go there if you're going to
share your thoughts I feel like you uh we need someone like you know to beat like some weird people out there like talking tennis who does don't know anything about it who has no idea about tennis and we need you know we need smart inspire you Johnny we need smart boys OUT THERE LIKE SO NEXT generation listen to the right people I've always loved you Arena I just want to say that and you know you said exactly the right thing and keep it up. I mean, you got another question. No, just Lucas has something from social med. So, was it an adjustment playing with such extravagant expensive jewelry? Because I'm assuming you did not play with that growing up.
Real, right? Yeah, that looks nice. It kind of matches your outfit. Very jealous right now. I can give you some contacts who can do some tips. Actually, please don't for um I don't know. I just I like to bring some fashion, some fun stuff on court. I feel like um nowadays fashion is a bit uh too simple and you know I don't have that much opportunity to express myself. So that's why like I just I don't know I wear stuff a lot and I feel like for us for girls for you guys it's going to sound really awkward and wrong. It's important how I look and when I look good I perform good you know. Absolutely. I don't know. That's something that um I love. Like now when me bringing fashion uh in a different way, I bring fashion another way.
Absolutely. You do it all. You're playing good. You're looking good. I love the whoop, too, by the way. It's got like a special whoop right there. Tiger over there. Little tiger on there. You got the tattoo. And just for the record, open a jewelry store. Okay. Continued success. Good luck. Thank you so much for coming. We appreciate it. All the best. Thank you, Arena. Thanks for coming in. So much. All the best. Good luck.
