A licensed yacht captain, Corey Hotelling, has been arrested and charged with murder following the death of Justin Zelen, who fell from a 25th-floor apartment in Miami Beach. The incident, which occurred during an altercation, has raised concerns about background checks in the yachting industry, as Hotelling had prior drug possession charges. This is Sup in association with Go Earth boating navigating boat buyers to better deals. Hi, welcome back to the channel. Hope you had a great weekend. It's been a bank holiday weekend in the UK. So, if you're wondering why no video on Monday, that's the reason. First bank holiday I've taken off in since 2022. So, just FYI. All right, so we're going on to our first story today. Now, you may have seen this story. If you live in Miami, you may have seen this story over the last month or so. Uh a man uh in Miami Beach has been arrested months after a shocking incident in which another man allegedly

fell to his death from a 25th floor of a luxury apartment building. According to reports, 37-year-old Corey Hotelling was taken into custody following investigation into the February incident involving Justin Zelen at the high-rise apartment in Miami Beach. Now, the reason why we're talking about it, obviously, doesn't sound like a yachting story right now, but the person who's been arrested, the 37-year-old Corey Hotelling, is actually a yacht captain, a licensed yacht captain. That's why we're covering it. Uh an altercation broke out between the two men. Uh authorities claim Zelen called 911, emergency services, obviously, during the confrontation, and the dispatchers reportedly heard him telling

Hotelling to leave the apartment, and then they heard sounds of a struggle, and then the voice stopped, and then the police turned up at the apartment, and Hotelling was still in the apartment, and the other guy was lying at the on the floor uh at the bottom of the apartment 25 floors down. Um and they found lots of circumstantial evidence, you know, his beard was ripped off, uh bits of his beard, which suggests a fight, right? There's lots of evidence, blood on the balcony, blood on the floor, the uh blood of the man who's been arrested on the victim, etc., Um Now, they also said that the captain uh the this master 100-ton license he had, and they said that he's he's already has open charges for drug possession. His backpack allegedly

contained ketamine, according to the police when they searched it. He's also been charged with burglary and assault and battery. Now, the How do we know he's the actual captain? We have his CV. I'm not going to show all of his CV, but I'm going to show enough so you can see that it's him. Obviously, the photograph is a You know, this is what they do in the yachting industry. Photographs are routinely put on to CVs. Just to give people a very quick decision of whether you suit the aesthetic, you know, of that yacht. So, you can see his photograph here, and it says there is Captain Corey Alexander Hutterly.

And he's he's a native of Florida. He owns a 100-ton Sorry, he holds a 100-ton captain license with 200 tonnage certificate pending sea time submission. Interestingly, on his CV, it says he's a non-smoker and he's drug and alcohol-free operator with a zero-tolerance policy for crew members. So, yeah, don't believe everything you read on somebody's CV, right? So, there you go. But there's a list there of the some of the yachts he's worked on over the years. You can see there's quite a number of yachts there. He's been Looks like he's been working on yachts since around 2018.

Um so, you know, quite a troubling um story there. Now, the person has been held in remand. I don't know whether they say that in the US, but basically, he's been held without bail. Uh and um obviously, quite serious charges that he's facing. But, you know, just shows that you can't assume somebody is who they say they are, obviously, in their CV. He lists a number of references on there, a number of other captains, which I'm not going to put on screen uh as um obviously, as a references for him to be um authenticated, if you like, as a good captain.

Um but yeah, really interesting uh story there. Really troubling story. Again, uh whether or not he has a criminal record, I don't know. Now, if you remember the stewardess who was killed on the yacht who was murdered on the yacht, Paige Bell, one of the things that the people who are friends and family of Paige Bell are fighting for is mandatory police identity checks, you know, so checks by the police to see if they have criminal records. It's not mandatory, it's not even voluntarily done. I've only ever I've been asked once to provide one. That was on a cruise ship. Never been asked for it on yachts. This is another example where uh having that could come in handy, right? I don't know

if he's got a criminal record. He certainly looks like he's going to have one soon if the charges are true. But, it's possible that he might have some past criminal criminality based on the charges he's he's he's got against him here. I don't know. But, it's definitely I think it's definitely something that should be done. Uh you know, mandatory IDs for other police check. Now, I mentioned this once before, people were saying background checks. I'm talking about police background checks. Basically, in the UK and in other countries, you go to the police and you ask them to give you a letter to say whether you have any criminal record or not. And they will provide you with one. Usually, I think

you have to pay a fee just to get it and they will tell you they'll they'll give you a letter saying that you don't have a criminal record. That's what I'm talking about. I wasn't talking about background checks with other employees and stuff like other employers, should I say? Talking about criminal record background checks. Definitely something that should be done. Anyway, guys, I've got one more thing before I go. It's not really a story, it's just an update on my See how it's I always do that. Sailing yacht Koru left Tahiti. Been there for a few weeks now. And it looks it's heading west. It looks

like it's heading to uh well, it's heading in a westerly direction. It looks like it might be heading to Fiji, possibly Samoa. I can see that Abbyona is ahead of Koru right now. And Abbyona looks very close to Um but it quite possibly it could go into go be going to either um, but um, most likely will go to Fiji at some point. I've spent time in Fiji over the years, mostly when I was on cruise ships, been there on yachts as well, but I spent when I worked on a cruise ship called the Paul Gauguin, I mentioned recently in another video, and we were based in Tahiti, but we used to travel to Fiji and to Samoa and American Samoa and places like that. Um, and uh, really interesting place Fiji, it's really not what you expect. I don't know

what well, it's it's not what I expected, let's say. Uh, have They have a very large Indian um, population there. Um, I mean, the born there, but you know, but it's I didn't expect that when I got there. Uh, very large population of Indians. And um, you you've got these buses that they have there, they took all the windows out the buses, uh, that's the AC in Fiji, and it looks like so it looks like what I would think the 50s India would have looked like. Lots of Indian curry places, um, yeah, really unexpected to see that. Um, but it's you know, stunning, I mean, the landscape and stuff is stunning. That was Suva I was talking about, that's the capital, I think it's the capital, or 1,500 people telling me it's

not if I'm wrong. But we went to different islands, but the main island is uh, is um, yeah, that's what I was talking about with the Indian population everything. But yeah, really stunning beaches and really great locations, same with Samoa, absolutely stunning islands. So yeah, so Carou's looks like he's heading to Fiji. Uh, really interesting, um, looks like Bezos is doing a big uh, tour of the Pacific, isn't it? Uh, those were good days. I've done that many times, like I said, uh, on the cruise ship mainly, um, and uh, yeah, some rough seas out there as well. But yeah, I just thought I'd give you a heads up on that. So, if you were in Fiji or you were in Samoa, look out for those two yachts, Abeona and Carou, and uh,

yeah, let us know if you see them. I'll keep you an update, I'll give you uh, I'll keep you updated on their movements. So, that's that's all I've got for today, guys. One other thing I do have to tell you, uh we're going to be heading to Italy soon. So, we're going to be at Monaco for the Grand Prix. So, I'm super excited about that. We never went last year. Can you believe it? Already is a year since we traveled down to uh to Sicily for the recovery of Basian. That's incredible that year has gone so quickly. But, yeah, we're heading down to uh Italy and Monaco for the Monaco Grand Prix. So, look out for that. I'm I'm super excited about that. You see more yachts at the Grand Prix than you

do at the Monaco Yacht Show. That's how busy it is in Monaco for the Grand Prix. So, yeah, super excited. We're going to be doing a lot of videos, you know, walking around the marina. Hopefully, we'll get uh someone like Scott Free again that gives me a ride in the tender around. That was If you remember that, that was fantastic. Uh that's a patron video. There's a full ride on actually of that uh from that I think it was 2023 we did that. We did a full ride around the whole um marina in the uh tender from the Motoryacht Scott Free. It's a charter yacht. And that yacht was actually at the Monaco Yacht Show last year for sale, as well. But, anyway, I digress. Uh look out for those videos.

Uh Monaco Grand Prix this year is in June. It's in the uh 6th and 7th of June, I believe. Uh it's that weekend of the 6th of June. The weekend that weekend. So, we'll be down there for the preceding week, as well. We'll do some build-up videos and stuff like that. Uh yeah, look out for that, guys. All right, I'll leave it there. Join us on Patreon, patreon.com/easysman. Loads of videos on there, like I just mentioned. We've got that boat ride. We've got all kinds of behind-the-scenes stuff. We're going to be doing a lot of filming, the vlog on the way down, the travel vlog, uh behind-the-scenes stuff

on location down there. We're going to be going not only going for the Monaco Grand Prix, we're going to be going around to the different marinas in Imperia and in San Remo and in Monaco and probably Nice and you know, all those different locations. We'll be filming in all those locations. Genoa, as well, my old um stomping ground where I used to spend a lot of time working. So, yeah, look out for that all that stuff to come. All right, guys. Thanks for watching. If you've got any information for us, uh email address and the WhatsApp number on screen. If you've got footage, send it to uh the uh what through the white WeTransfer. We're getting quite a few photographs sent to us on WhatsApp.

Photos they're a questionable but probably usable, but the video footage is absolutely unusable if you send it through WhatsApp. So, send it through WeTransfer. All right, guys. Thanks for watching. It's extremely hot in the UK right now. It's about 31° right now where I'm working, and I don't have any AC. So, I'm not complaining though. I'm very happy to have warm weather finally cuz it was freezing last week. Uh anyway, guys. Thanks for watching. I'll catch up with you soon. Bye-bye.
