Uh, so, we've just been sent the video of the tawny owl. Just going to have a quick look at it now. So, we've got proper pond that's going to require a boat. Oh my goodness, look at that. Oh, it's hanging by the wing. That's not good. Let's dash over there quickly now. Right back here it is uh is a lake that's got a little pond. This is where we're going to now. Where the poor owl's trapped. This used to be a fishing pond, probably still is, and this is going to be how this poor owl has got caught up in the first place. Oh, look at it. Poor little monkey. Right, let's let's get to work. We can't leave him hanging like that. Oh, Jesus. So, it's obviously entangled on this
fishing line by the looks of it on these uh telephone lines, I'm hoping. That's what that is. A boat is essential for today's rescue. So, I'm glad we got one. It's going to be a It's going to need to be a two-man job on the boat. We're going to need one to have the net ready to catch the owl, to lower it down, and we're going to have somebody else to cut the wire above it. On approaching the owl, we realized that getting it down onto the moving boat would be a real challenge. That way, yeah. A little bit close to the wing now. Got it? There we go.
Nice catch. Jesus. Whoa, nice. That's good. You've got life in you yet. So, he's actually got the hook going through one of the feathers. So, we're going to just I'm just going to leave that be for now. We'll just put some stuff in the box in a sec. So, we'll make that more comfortable when we get back onto land. If I can hand him over to you, Josh, that'd be really helpful. Thank you very much. Back at the center, he was rushed straight to the vets. So, it's sweet. How much does he seem to be in imagine pain? So, that would have been the one he's hanging from.
Yeah. So, it's still attached to him. he's actually got a hook here. Right, I'm going to have to GA him. Yeah. Cuz I can't remove that conscious. It's not fair. Sorry, baby. And then it also means that we can do a proper full examination. It's actually luckily only through a feather shaft. Oh, wow. Okay. So, if I change this You can see it's literally just through this feather shaft here. Oh, you got to be kidding. So, he's very lucky that's not actually That's just gone through a feather shaft. So, what I'm going to do now is I'm just
going to wake him straight up. And then I'm going to give him some pain relief. And what we'll do is we'll keep him in here overnight. But yeah, so he's so lucky cuz that is That's crazy. That's just gone through. So, what I'll do is I'll just pop him in the incubator. Give him a donut. And we'll go from there. But the following morning the news we received wasn't so good. I don't know what I would say. Um come into a bit of a tragedy this afternoon. Um our poor little tawny owl that Dan and I rescued uh hanging above the pond in fishing wire um didn't make it.
Even though it looked quite promising uh after the rescue when we got it back, uh with the vet team uh 24 hours observation it declined and then it sadly passed away. And further investigation we're looking at maybe injuries to the head and the neck through the amount of time that it was there dangling and struggling and trying to get itself free but couldn't. Yeah, it's it's just so disappointing. I can't you know words can't express how we're all feeling here today. You know this could have been easily avoided. This owl should have been flying free, living life out in the wild doing its thing but unfortunately here it is with us on the table.
There's no words, you know it's Yeah, it's absolutely gutting so Yeah, sorry guys it's not a good outcome on this occasion but once again we did our best you know endeavors to rescue. Yeah. Gutted.
