What's going on, guys? Today, we're going to give you an update on all the new turtles, plus the health of the giant Amazon River turtle, and we're going to check out all the ponds at the camp. All right, people. We just threw some food out and as you can see, all the turtles are looking normal. All our big girls. Uh there is the female that was having the buoyancy issues. Now, every once in a while, she still surfaces and is listing a little bit, but now she's able to submerge and she's eating. So, my theory was by putting her out here in the natural sun back into
a stressfree environment, it hopefully has been aiding in her convolescence. You can see she's still got a little bit of wobble, but the fact that she can now submerge is a huge plus in her uh healing. So that's fantastic. We just saw her nibbling on a little food. So I suspect as we keep her out here, as the summer progresses, as the weather warms up, the water warms up, she is going to continue to improve, which is fantastic. And the blood tests that we recently took have indicated that the infection in her body is subsiding. That's why it's so
important to do these blood tests because if you don't, you're just kind of throwing medicine at a problem and not knowing if it's even helping, if the medicine's the right kind. No way to change your course of action. So, I'm very happy because today, uh, she is submerged. She was nibbling here on some of the food. So, that's fantastic. All the other turtles and the pacu are doing good. By the way, the pacu that had the fungus, it's right here. It's hard to see from the glare, but its scales are healing. Everything is just doing much better. As you guys know,
we had the craziest winter ever here at the camp. Temperatures just got ridiculous and it was almost impossible to keep everything healthy. Um there's there's bound to be some problems. So, I faced those problems. I now know what I need to do working forward to or looking forward to next season. What I'd like to do is get a heater in this pond. Uh it's going to cost a lot of money, but we're going to try and get it done so we can heat this water. Therefore, I won't have to get those animals out. Uh we can keep them in warm water. But I'm just happy that we were able
to help this gal out. We're going to keep an eye on her, make sure she's doing okay. Again, I'm going to walk over there so you can see it. This is so cool. This is just such a relief cuz I love all my animals and I don't want anything to happen to them and I want to make sure I'm giving them the best possible environment. She is actually right there submerged, which is just ah, it makes me stoked. Um, because every day there's more and more improvement and that's key. We want to see things going in the right direction. So, uh, very, very good news. Uh, I would imagine
keeping her in that smaller tub out of the sun, poking her, stressing her out, it's necessary. I had to administer the whole full course of the medication. Remember, we tried septazine, that wasn't working. So, we went over to baitrol, uh, and that seemed to kind of do the trick. Medicines are going to have different effects depending on what kind of bacteria you're trying to fight. So, uh, some are gram positive, some are gram negative. You got to know. Um, so we, uh, we tried both courses of action and, uh, now it looks like she's healing up. Okay, here's the
next pond in the Camp Kennon universe here. Uh, it is starting to fill up. We've been getting rain, which is very nice. I moved um one of our logs. This is kind of fun. I always love messing with our environments. Um I enjoy tweaking them, making them perfect for the animals. So, there's a little grandest right there. Are there any grandis hiding up in here? I'll bet you there are. There's got to be. Look at how deep that goes. Wow. That is such a cool turtle cave, man. Hey, look at that. Here's a grandest right now. There we go. There's one hiding out in there.
That's a cool hiding spot you got. These guys love to hide underneath this uh pine tree kind of root bed. Uh you can see there's our fence, but they're actually going beneath it. They've gone over to the other side, at least subterraneanly. But look at this log. We adjusted it and uh basically it is now somewhat submerged, so turtles will be able to climb on it. And as the water levels rise, I'll adjust the log accordingly so that they can still have a nice basking platform. It's really cool to see the water now lapping at the base of our wall and eventually it will be way higher than
this. So, I'll be able to take this log with my L47 K Cabota tractor and just lay it right on this beach and they'll have a nice basking area. We've got the log over there that's working out nice. We moved some of our cement. We've cleaned this up. I'm actually uh using the machines right now doing some work. Uh let me show you what I'm up to. I love giving you guys these updates as to what's happening here at the camp. So, I really want to, you know, we dialed in this fence. We're going to go ahead and put an interior fence here. I'm just kind of getting everything situated right
now so that uh there's less obstacles for me to work around what I am doing. Oh, look at this. We got a yellow belly slider. She's out looking to lay eggs. That's what's going on there. She's going to deposit some eggs. We got a grand here. I'm going to make a wall here and then I'm going to fill it with soil. So, we'll have plants up here. We'll have a nice wall using all this cement, these chunks of cement. So, we'll create like a nice planter over here. I'll just kind of raise the level here a bit. We'll get some really nice maybe a big bamboo or something really
cool that'll kind of really fill out this whole section. Maybe a giant bamboo. Another one like we'll see in just a little bit. So when I show you the giant bamboo, I want you to remember where we want to put it and let me know what you guys think if we have a giant 90 foot tall column of bamboo right in this corner to fill this whole area in. And uh it would really be nice. Uh the kabotas are just so awesome. These things are the best. Um really been helping me out. We are using the SCCL1000. We got the L47. Making light work of all this cement. So, I'll just organize it with the
thumb on the backhoe and that'll be half the job done. We have some other materials here. As you know, I've been talking about it ad nauseium, but I'm going to do a fence along here. We're going to use some of the wire that you guys graciously donated to the camp. So, I'm going to pull this out. We're going to reuse this cement elsewhere. We're going to use some of these uh posts, some of these poles as posts for the new fence. And I like the rustic look of this. So, we'll have a post. We'll have some wire. Maybe I'll cut down some bamboo and use bamboo as tying rails,
you know, as kind of the rails of the fence, but we'll have a black mesh that the turtles won't be able to get through. And neither will the little baby turtles, which is going to be awesome. So, it's my next big project I'm going to be working on here. Got a curly tail. Hey, where'd you go, Curly? Got a curly tail hanging here. But, I'm going to pull this all up. Once I get that project done, we're gonna pull this up, use it for that project. Uh, and then we'll dig the trench. We'll sink the posts. will run the wire. It's going to go all the way around this pond, keeping
the turtles close to the pond. Okay, so that's the goal. And why am I doing that? Because I want to be able to keep the babies and the eggs in an area that I can more easily kind of walk around and collect the eggs. Uh, it's going to be much better for me to do that. I'll be more efficient. Here are some nests that have been dug up. These are slider nests. See, these are all slider nests that the crows have actually gotten to. This time of year, the crows are smart. They know the turtles are laying. So, they the crows have like kind of great memory as birds and they're very smart birds
and so they know what time of year the animals are nesting. They also know where the nests are and where the turtles are. They know my house, believe me. So, what they're doing is when I hear the crows cawing, they're talking to each other and uh letting each other know that there are some eggs to be dug up and they'll watch a female crawl out, watch her lay the eggs, and in some cases are taking the eggs right as the eggs leave her cloica. It's It's troublesome. But anyway, we're going to try and remedy that by getting a fence closer to the pond. All right, here we are. The
front ponds, the original Camp Cannon Pond. John Adams, my friend from Tennessee, helped me with this beautiful stream that flows into the original Camp Cannon Pond. Let's see if we can find some of the new animals in there. I see Fred, our resident fly river turtle, one of the many that we have here at camp. All right, there he is. He's down there. But we also Let's go underwater. I'm going to put you guys under so you can see Fred and the uh Indian spotted turtle. Here we go.
Heat. All right. So, Fred looking good. You can see that the uh bite marks on his marginal area of his carrapase are healing up nicely. That's why we put him in here because he was smaller than the other Fly River and they have a tendency to bully each other. Let's get some food out here for the Asian box turtles. There's one right there. They'll start nibbling libling. We've got the
brand of horse turtles in here. We got Subla. We got the new Ocadia sinencis uh we put in here that have been doing well, but maybe we'll find one. I don't know. Let's just kind of wander around. This is what I like to do. You know, I also like to check on my Let's check on my little skimmer here. You never know what you may find. All right. Well, we got great flow, huh? Look at that power from these Aqua Surge pumps. beautiful aquacape pumps that are working really, really well. And you'll notice the pond's clean. It's looking good. All right. So, we've got a nice repairarian habitat
here. This is where land meets uh meets like a stream habitat. We call it repairarian. The area right around a water source. Uh that's what we've created here. Me and Aquacape, the pond professor, all my friends at Aquacaping. Uh really good work. Here's some more of our Indian spotted turtles who tend to be some of the most friendly. We've got Oh, there's a quang tongue turtle over here. And of course, we also have peninsula cooter. Hey, get in there. Let's throw some food out for these guys. Recently, I did a water change of this pond. It was due. Here's a little red belly cooter from
Florida. Very friendly little gal. Hello, little lady. Come here. There's some food right in there. Go get it. Well, they get kind of like Marge. They get fixated on something and they miss the absolute bevy of food. Look at that beautiful little Florida red belly here. Look. There you go. I can hold her and she's on a conveyor belt. The food's coming to her. There you go, kid. Keep going. Keep going. Oh, that's a good girl. Keep eating. Uh, they're funny. I like turtles cuz they have personality and we love personality. Okay, everyone's doing well here. I love it. Lots
of spotted Indian turtles here or Indian spotted turtles. Whatever syntax you want to, you know, whatever order you want to do that. I mean, you could sound like Yoda. Turtles look good. They do, you know. I don't know. Whatever. However you want to get it done, peoples. Ah. Hey, I know this is a pond video, but you got to give props to Nostradamus when he's looking so regal. Hey, buddy. Love you, buddy. Okay, let's go see Fida's pond. Oh, remember when I said giant bamboo in that corner of the Camp Kenan giant pond? That's giant bamboo. So, can you imagine a mature comb
of that? Uh-oh. Look what we got, people. We got a raccoon. Oh, brother. It's a young raccoon. And that raccoon has been kind of around town lately. He's been coming to Camp Kennon and he's been uh making poopies near the pond and paw prints and that worries me because he could eat my turtles. We have an electric fence, but doesn't always keep them out. So, I'm going to have to uh move this guy along here and just get rid of them. And that's what we're going to do. We have these traps where I can trap them. And uh Oh yeah, he's scary. Okay, you don't want to get bit by this guy, but
uh I hate it. I hate when we catch them, but we got to move him along. All right, so there you go. It's such There's so much work that I've got to do and things to consider here with these animals. Um you know, they've got predators and I got to protect this place and we got to keep some of these really rare turtles alive. So that rocky raccoon is moving on out. Uh, by the way though, here's Freda. Hey Freda, you're too big for a raccoon to eat, thankfully. But your eggs, if you ever lay them, would be vulnerable, and we just can't have that cuz you are an endangered
royal river turf. Let's get you some food, dude. There's my lady. My girl Freda. I love you, baby. That's my lady. Get Freda all set up. And uh yeah, man. Good times. I just hate how pitiful this guy looks. He looks really sad. And uh they're cute. That's the problem. Raccoons are cute. Nasty little ver varmints, but they are cute. Okay, so the area around the pond looking really, really cool growing in. We're getting the rain, so we have some plants growing. A monstera again. Giant bamboo. Don't you think that would look cool in the corner of the pond area uh that I showed
you earlier? I think it would. Even like some of the seabbze bamboo would look good over there. But I like this. It's just very dramatic and I think would look just amazing. All right. Well, looking good here. We'll get back and deal with that raccoon in a little bit. Let's continue along and make sure everything is looking swell. Hey, the box turtles are looking good. They're loving this hot weather and humidity. They function very well in that. And uh what do you know people? It's just rolling along. Let's go see Cayman Creek. Oh, we got to check in on those young Madagaransis. The um Aim Kelly's Madagensis, the Madagascar
big head turtle. We got two of them that were too small to go in Slinky's enclosure. He would have eaten them. Slinky. If you're a snake or a small turtle, you got problems. Here's Lucifer. Hey, Lou. Oh, Lou. Louis, I love you. That's my buddy. All right, let's see who's out here. We got the Amazon turtles. Looking good. Swimming around. Ah, here's an interesting thing. Oh, okay. I got nervous. One of those Amazon turtles was having a hard time going underwater, but clearly it just wasn't he wasn't motivated enough. Okay. So, what I'm looking for is the Madagarensus. Let's see.
Where could they be? There's a lot of nooks and crannies that these guys can hide in, believe it or not. Small turtles, small crevices, lots of places for them to go. Makes uh keeping track of them sometimes difficult. But sometimes not seeing the turtle is actually a good thing because it means they're hiding. they're doing what they're supposed to do. And it also means that your habitats are actually econ uh e what is the word? Not economically. Um well, they're ecoound. Does that make sense? Yeah, eco sound. That's good. Oh, look at this. Let's get rid of that. Let's get rid of this whole big thingy here. I don't
need this. Holy smokes. Over the shoulder, people. over the shoulder. Okay, no worries. Okay, that's fun. Oh my gosh. Some more of this. I don't even know what kind of weed this is, but that's in fact what it is. It's a big old weed. I don't need this weed. Okay. Hey, Cora Flavoinada, welcome to the show. I don't know. Where are we? We are looking and not finding what we should. We got the Salvini musk turtle from Mexico. Pacific coast giant musk turtle. Amazon river turtles. A spotted Amazon river turtle. But I'm not seeing the madagarences. Oh my gosh. The only other place they could be is either hiding
on land or they're in the cave. And I'm not sticking my hand into the cave. Unless I know where one Margie cakes is. Here's the cave. Here's another Salvini. So, here's a big cave there. The turtles could be in that or they could also just be hiding around just kind of hiding on land, which is entirely possible. But look at this guy. In either case, I know they can't get out. I know that Louis didn't need them because they're too big for Louie. So, not worried about it. Let's go on to the other section of Camp Kennon or Cayman Creek rather. Okay, as you can see, glorious day.
Sun is shining. We had a nice rain last night, so everything is just incredibly uh saturated. The plants are drinking up that water, getting the nutrients from the sun so they can do their little photosynthesizing. Ah, I like it when things are balanced. All is right with the universe, friends. Here is Sunny. Sunny's hungry always. Hi, Sunny. You're not getting any food today, Bubba. No food for you today. It's not a feeding day. It's a day to relax and be a good boy. Look at the dentition on this guy, though. Beautiful. All right, so he's good. Now, sh We always watch
where we're walking. Never trust Sunny. Here is Sher. Hi, Sher. There she is. We've got the fly river turtle in there doing well. Some more Amazon turtles here. Female. There's a male swimming around. We have the tripatus, which is actually the giant Mexican musk turtle right there. Just kind of hanging beautifully. The water clear because it's an aquacape ecosystem. No chemicals, just natural filtration. So, I like the shade that this mango tree is putting off because um eventually we want this whole pond to be completely covered with foliage with
with canopy so that it truly represents a jungle pool which is where these smooth fronts and dwarf came and really prefer to live. That's their preferred habitat. We've got uh dion species of scikad here and um yeah, I'm loving this. our South American cichlids doing well. So, overall, here's a fly river in here. Can you guys see that? Let's go underwater again. Here you go. Oh, all right. What can I say? Things are good. Let's go see our final Aquacape ecosystem and make sure everything is running smoothly.
What I like about this, not a long walk. We just mosy on over to Slinky's enclosure and we will see how things are looking over here. This is an interesting habitat because no leaves from outside of it can flow or fall into it. There are beautiful radiated tortoise that live in what's the word of the day, kids? The repairarian area of the pond of the water feature. Here is the water feature itself. And there. Wow. Look at this. We've got rocks. We've got turtles. What do we got here? Where is everybody? Is that a rock? What is that? What is that right there? That's definitely
a rock. Okay. Oh, sometimes the peliosis subniger looks like a rock. I don't see our matagarensis here, but uh the water is clear. We've got like two three lonely cichlids from south uh from Africa rather. And um yeah, this place is looking good. But I wanted to show you Oh, look who it is. Here's Slinky. Look at Slinky. His blood work came back good. Look at him. He's hanging out. He's probably using them as a pillow. Hey buddy, it's morning time. Everybody's just relaxing in the sun, raising that blood temperature.
Good deal. It's my handsome guy, Slinky. My old man looking good though. Spending his golden years in a golden enclosure, wouldn't you say? Just gorgeous. Plenty of room for him to walk. Lots to be stimulated by. And uh just Oh, Slinky boy. Don't puff up. It's daddy. Oh, it's daddy. Yes, it is. I'm making you crazy. All right. So, there he is. Slinks. We'll just move on by. Let me peek in here. Huh. Do I see anything? Oh, I do. Guys, I'm going to go I'm going to get um I'm going to get dirty here for you. Okay, we're going to go in. We're going in, people. I'm going to pull something out for you. Like I said,
I go above and beyond for my friends here on the old YouTube. I got to design this thing better. Oh my gosh, it is really hard to reach. I don't think I can reach them. So, instead I can't reach them, friends. I'm going to have to put you guys in and show you the Ocadia. Here are the Ocadia. Sorry, I just can't do it. I need the extension. There they are in the dark. Let me get some light for my phone so you guys can see. Hold on. All right, here we go. There they are. Ocadia sinences hanging out in this awesome cave that I built for them. Oh, yes. Life is good. Turtles are where they want to be. That's important. They can choose to go in the water or they could choose to go in the
cave or under a plant. Whatever they want to do, they've got options and that's the goal. That's what we're trying to accomplish. We want them to just do what they would do naturally in the wild. I think I'm dirty. Oh, I am dirty. But there's Slinky. Hi, buddy. Don't mind me. Ah, so out of breath today. Anyway, ah, I guess now, friends, is a good time for us to show you the Madagarensus. He's doing well. Always looking for food. Another one of my friendly turtles. And that's what makes me love the species is when I get one that just behaves like this. I
got to have more because they're so friendly and unique. All right. Well, anyway, I think I'm gonna enjoy the morning. I just wanted to catch up with you and I'm really glad we did because we are continuing to show how we care for the animals, how when there is an issue with an animal, we um get the vets involved, set a course of action, and we follow through with that. Very, very important. So, I'm going to relax, enjoy the morning, deal with this raccoon, and I'll see you guys again on another episode of Camkennon. Don't forget to go to patreon.com/camken for
more behindthecenes action and more from me, Canon. I'll talk to you guys later.
