Back to our breaking news out of Montgomery County, Maryland this morning. At least three workers have been injured in what officials are calling a dangerous electrical shock at the Medical Center Metro Station Bethesda. And that's what we find our Jess Arnold this morning who just arrived on the scene. Jess, what do we know at this point? Yeah, you can see a massive presence here of first responders that were helping those three injured workers. They were working down in an electrical shaft. But to give you more details, I actually have Pete Pieringer here with McGomery County Fire and Rescue. So, please walk us through what happened. I know it's been a couple hours now since that initial shock.

Yeah, initial dispatch was at 7:45 this morning for the Medical Center Metro Station. Initially reported as an electrical explosion. Of course, it all occurred over here in this shaft area, which is really separate from the entrance to the metro station. As far as I know, it did not impact the metro station. It remained open the entire time I was here. It's in an area uh a vault area between the elevators uh that go to the naval support u uh at Bethesda activity at Bethesda and NIH and uh there believe that we had five workers in that area. One of them would had gotten a pretty significant electrical arc and shock. Uh we believe that two other workers came through his aid. I believe they were all contractors,

electrical contractors. Uh so we had three people that were uh received significant injury. one I would say is a critical what we would call priority one. The other two are priority two patients all serious of course. Uh but the other workers were able to get out. Now when we first got here, isolated it uh access uh treated got were able to get those people out of there, evaluated them and got them to the hospital pretty quickly, but one has pretty significant life-threatening injuries. And what are next steps here because there's still a massive presence. Yeah. So, uh, again, Metro will I believe they'll probably have OSHA come in and it was a workplace, uh, mishap, so they'll have to investigate

that. I don't know exactly what happened other than, uh, one of the workers came in contact with a fairly significant electrical arc. Uh, they were in place in that shaft area when we arrived on the scene. It was a massive response. NIH, Naval Support, Activity, Bethesda, of course, McGomery County Fire Rescue, all here. uh number of police agencies as well. So huge response, but uh we were able to get those people out pretty quickly. None of the uh public was affected. They were able to get access to the metro station the entire time, but uh the investigation is continuing uh to find out exactly what happened.

Well, thank you so much for walking us through all of that. We know Metro did also put out a statement confirming that they were contractors that were working down there. Said they've been in uh communication and in partnership with of course the first responders on scene. As I mentioned, you can see such a huge presence still here at the medical center station. So, we'll keep you posted on those developments. Again, those three workers injured, one in critical condition. So, we'll keep you posted, guys. Okay. Be sure to uh stick with W USA 9 today for any later uh developments. Thank you so much, Jess. Appreciate it.
