Now at 6, heating up. The storms are gone, but today will be the hottest of the week when the Fox 5 weather team is tracking for your weekend and the big change headed our way. Also ahead, the boundary battle. A marathon Fairfax County meeting stretches into the wee hours of the morning as a community weighs options on where students could go to school. Plus, tracking the rats, the new tool in DC that shows you where the rodents are hanging out and what's being done to fix the problem. Your news at 6 starts now.

It is 6:00 on this Friday. Thank you so much for joining us here live on Fox 5 and streaming on Fox Local. And it's a Zip Trip Friday. We are winning big Friday. I'm so happy to be here and I wanted to twin with Marissa. Oh my gosh. I think we succeeded. I love it. It's a ladies show. We got Taylor. We got Annie May who's not on today's Zip Trip. I know. I was like, I'm like the FOMO has been the first one. The first one that I haven't been on besides being on vacation. Yeah, don't worry. I'll be back next week. 7:45. We'll be live in Frederick.

Yes, it's going to be a nice morning out there. We're going to heat things up though today. Uh it looks like we're going to hold off the storms and the rain though for our zip trip out there in Frederick. Going to be very humid though. So if you're planning to head out, make sure you dress accordingly, stay hydrated. We could still see maybe some popup storms later on today, but it should be more limited than what we dealt with yesterday. Of course, I'll have more on that forecast coming up. Annie May. All right, thanks. Take a look here. 6:00 now, 270 in the southbound direction if you're planning on traveling there. 70 towards the beltway should be about 29 minutes. You're

looking great right now for that 32 mile stretch. Shouldn't be too bad for you this morning as you're headed out the door. Marissa, back to you. All right, Anime, thanks so much. It was a late night for the Fairfax County School Board as they keep working on the plan for the new Sky View High School. Yeah, we know boundary changes are needed to fill the new school. Last night, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reed officially presented her preferred options. We got Fox's Money Onwick live in H. Hearnden with the updates on what's changing and what's not. Good

morning, Mel. Good morning. Yeah, so this was a work session. There were a number of things on the agenda. Later in the evening is when they got to the redistricting, the boundary changes needed to fill Sky View High School here. It went on to uh into the wee hours of the morning as you guys have mentioned. So here's the thing. Redistricting is never easy, but when you have a new school, that's certainly an exciting thing. The thing that makes people anxious are the changes that are required to bring students in to fill it. Three options for filling the new Sky View High School have been whittleled down to one. The preferred option, recommendation one, will affect about 200 students in the Chantelli, Westfield, and South Lakes school

boundaries. It would phase in over three years with a full 9th to 12th grade in 2028 to 2029. The first year, students are opting in and then in the second year, students who are drawn into the school do have an opt out choice. At the same time, FCPS is also adjusting the boundaries of Centerville High School and some of the middle schools, in part to rebalance the student population to address overcrowding at some and under enrollment at others. Board members hope families will realize how hard FCPS staff has worked to try to solve this puzzle. Is there a easy solution for this? Is there a mass solution for this? And your team was like, "No, there's not. It's it's very difficult. It's hard to do.

There's so many competing priorities and they're trying to get it right. Um there's not an easy solution for this. It's not perfect. Nothing can be perfect in life, but it is almost to the perfection what we I'm looking at it. So thank you to all the team who's worked so much their time on this. I really appreciate it. Now FCPS has held several community roundts prior to developing its recommendations. One notable change is that an earlier version would have shifted some elementary school boundaries as well, but now those elementary school boundaries will remain intact. So there are two more opportunities for the public here. One is of just a public meeting on July 13th and then a schoolboard meeting on July

16th where Dr. Michelle Reid will present the final recommendation and a transportation plan and then it will be up to the school board members to vote on it. Melanie, thank you. Today is day two of a new shuttle bus system during Metro's Red Line closure. Just a reminder, Metro re relocating some of the shuttle buses meant for impacted riders to the Friendship Heights Bus Bay K. That's along Wisconsin Avenue. Meanwhile, other Metro buses are moving across the street to Western Avenue. Express shuttles to North Bethesda will remain in front of the Trader Joe's. These changes are expected to last up until September 6th.

The search is on this morning for a suspect wanted in a double shooting in DC. This comes after police found a man and a woman shot last night just before 8:00 on Knox Place in Southeast. The two were taken to the hospital. No update yet on their condition or a possible motive at this time. And the man accused of opening fire at a Metro bus stop and injuring five people in January is expected in court today. Anthony Del Morales, excuse me, he's facing nearly 70 charges for that shooting. This happened on 16th Street Northwest near Missouri Avenue. Investigators say the suspect first sexually assaulted a juvenile on the bus. An argument ensued before Sid Morales opened fire.

A 10story office building in Glenn Bernie remains under investigation due to structural concerns. The building was evacuated yesterday afternoon. Fire officials tell us a floor partially shifted during repair work inside of the Empire Towers underground parking garage. Fortunately, everybody made it out safely. It's still unclear when that building will reopen. All right, almost 6:05. That means it's time to head outside and take a look at the cam at Frederick this morning. Look at the beautiful clouds. And I think Taylor was saying it's going to be a good day for Zip Trip there today.

Yeah, it's going to be a great day out there. We're going to heat it up pretty quickly, but it's going to be a nice day. We're going to hold off any kind of showers or storms until later on today if we get anything. Thank you, Taylor. Yes. So, hopefully you want to head out. If you do, uh just make sure you stay hydrated. Uh it's very humid out there this morning. So again, it's going to feel uncomfortable for sure. Upper 60s to low 70s with the temperatures right now. A heads up, I know we have dealt with some fogs for several mornings this week. Looks very limited this morning, but heads up, Co Pepper, you could see reduced visibility due to this. Uh temperatures upper 60s

to low 70s. It's more or less that high humidity that's going to make it feel uncomfortable moving forward. Again, showers are holding off for now, but we will eventually see at least a chance for a couple of popup storms anytime during the afternoon between 2 3 4 5:00. Uh we're going to gain more cloud coverage, too, as the day goes on. Hit the upper 80s around noon and then cloudy with maybe a storm possible. Upper 80s by 5:00. You can go ahead and uh take a look at the weekend forecast as well by downloading the Fox Local app. All you have to do is scan a QR code right there on your screen. All right, 605 is your time. We'll

We'll take a look here. Maryland 210. This is in the northbound direction. Berry Road towards Bellway should be about 13 minutes right now for 10 miles. So, pretty normal. We'll see maybe a few minutes increase there as uh more people are up and at them here for

this Friday morning. This is uh 95 in the northbound direction 25 minutes. Quantico towards the beltway for 26 miles again looking great. A mile a minute even better than that. Looking through Virginia for Friday morning this is 66 obviously in the eastbound direction. Gainesville towards the beltway hovering around 19 which is pretty good. 95 corn towards the beltway. Just took a look at that there. It's about 17. And then between the bellway and the 14 tree bridge for 395, of course, as you're heading closer to the city, should only be about 10 minutes. Finally, taking a look at your overview, this is what it looks like.

The only real place you're seeing a maybe an increase is DC 295. See kind of this red zone right here. And then you'll see a little bit of it. Um, this is the outer loop of the bellway as you're traveling over the American Legion Bridge kind of from 270 in that little chunk right there towards the bridge. We were looking at something that has since cleared. So, it's about 30 miles an hour there. Marissa, back to you. The indictments alleges the plot started back in May when the group collected guns, explosives, drones, and money.
