The Truth About Our Abandoned House in Texas. | Transcript:

Ah, home sweet home. That's right. You guys have been asking about this place for months and we have been not saying a word about it for months. Yeah, and that is because there has been a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes and uh we haven't shared a single bit of that with y'all. Nope. So, uh grab your popcorn and big old cup of tea cuz we're about to spill it. Isn't that what the kids say these days?

Spill the tea. Ooh, drama. No, but seriously, we feel like it is finally time for us to come clean about what the heck is going on with our tiny house and our Texas property. So, that's what's coming up. Stay tuned. This is what's going on. Nothing's fine. I'm torn. Well, we have officially arrived back in Texas and we are just pulling up to the property now. You guys, we haven't been here in about 5 months. So, there's no telling what's going on this land. Is the RV still going to be there? Did somebody come and like loot the whole place? I don't know. Well, all the vehicles are accounted for. We've got Ruby Suzuki, we've got the truck, the RV, and then the Beans' RV off in the distance there.

Oh man, the truck tires are totally flat. Oh my god. Dude, the place is as expected incredibly overgrown. Oh boy. but it's all still here. Going through there. Let's check the inside. Make sure no critters have gotten in there. I'm going real fast. Yeah, this is central right here. It actually smells really good in here. Really? Yeah. Yeah, it does. Hmm. Power still works. Okay, I forget that we've got solar, so that's going. 99.7% has just been running on solar. Our fridge has been on.

Yeah, is it still going? All right, we can have french fries tonight and vodka. How very Russian of us. We have been watching The Americans. Yeah, very good show. underrated show or under the radar, maybe. We're heading back to check on the tiny house and we have to drive there because the grass is way too freaking long. Woo! Oh. What is it? There's a billion of them. There's like 20 up there. Oh, no. They're What are they just like sleeping up there or something? Oh, that's creepy. That's how you die.

We've got some other creepy crawlies that have taken over the pump house. It is completely filled with daddy long legs, you guys. And I don't know if you've ever noticed, but if there's a bunch of them together and they get scared, they start bouncing up and down and you can hear them tapping on the walls. I mean, I know they're harmless, but they're still super creepy. Man, it smells like cedar in here cuz we've got all these raw cedar panels. It smells really good. Woo, it's warm. Yeah, it's toasty in here. So, we just looked it up and we realized it is actually not been months. It has been a whole year since we have showed you guys anything out here. I did not realize it had been that long cuz we've

personally been to the property quite a few times working on little things here and there. We just haven't been filming it. But, I guess we should uh tell you guys why it is that we haven't really been filming too much when we come out here. Mhm. So, a lot of you are probably on this channel because you found us through our RV series which we did a few years ago and you guys seem to really enjoy that. And so, we thought we would up the ante and do a house and we figured it was along the same lines, you know, we're still renovating something that probably should have been demolished, making it into something beautiful, but people didn't really seem to enjoy it very much at all, you guys. Um and as you know,

YouTube is our livelihood, so if the videos aren't doing well, we're not doing well financially. We want to retire one day, have health insurance, all the same things you guys want and that means that we have to make videos that get views. So, we kind of scaled back on the house videos, and then we scaled back even more, and then we kind of completely stopped doing them. Yeah. We've just been enjoying some of the places we've been going to, traveling in the USA. You know, we've been able to do cruises and go to resorts and things like that, and that's all been pretty dang fun.

It is fun, but this has always been in the back of our mind because even if you guys don't love it that much, we actually love this stuff. And we really want to get this finished because we've made so much progress, and we want to see it fulfilled, but also because we have 1 year left until we have to get a real loan on this place. Yes. We're basically doing owner financing. That only lasts for 3 years on our contract, at which point you have to get a regular loan, and it's very hard to get a loan when you don't actually have a structure or working house on the property. So, we kind of got to finish it. But, within basically a week or two, we are planning to have all the electricity run. We're going to

have an AC unit in here. We're going to get it insulated. All that stuff can happen super quick. We just have to be out here to do it. Another reason we haven't been out here, we actually did come back uh this winter. You guys know we did some RV road tripping. Uh that was a lot of fun. We did it with some friends. And then we left for a few weeks for the holidays, came back, and disaster struck, you guys.

We had a heater going in our pump house, and it broke. And so then the pipe broke, and they were just spewing everywhere. So, we had to shut that off. was spewing onto the heater that was still plugged in heating the place. So, I don't know what happened there. And I drained the RV, of course, but I didn't open the water fixtures, and there's a little water that gets stuck inside those, and they all exploded. Yeah, we came back, and our sink had literally flown off of the sink onto the floor. Our shower head had burst off onto the floor. So, what we should have done is just left a heater going in there, and it would have been totally fine, but

Yeah, but you guys know us. We never know how long we're going to be on the road. We always say, "Oh, a week or two." and then it turns into a year. Yeah. So, we thought we would be back to the property well before it froze, and that was not the case. So, now not only do we have to finish this, but now we have to fix our pump house and fix the RV. Now we have no water. As you can see, sweaty, let us out of You got to take showers out here and at the moment we can't. So, we got a lot of things to sort. But wait, there's more.

You remember that I fell off that ladder and cracked a rib that one of the last times we were out here filming. That kind of took the wind out of my sails and even before that I started to develop just lower back pain when I was sleeping so I had to start to sleep like with a wedge. I can only sleep in certain positions. So, I wasn't getting any sleep and the back pain has just gotten worse just over time. Something's getting irritated back there. I've been going to doctors they have to do more scans and stuff like that to figure it out. But it has just made the day-to-day pretty frustrating because everything I like if I sit down too long it hurts. If I sit in the car too long it hurts. And

then if I'm up doing stuff during the day by the end of the night I have to take muscle relaxers that the doctor prescribed to me because it's the only way I can sleep. Yeah, he has been a very cranky boy for the last 6 months or so. It's gotten pretty bad. So, Yeah, we usually keep that stuff behind the scenes because it's not like you guys want to see us turn on the camera and then complain about personal problems and stuff like that. But we're doing that in this video whether you like it or not. But I have basically forbidden him from [clears throat] doing any sort of manual labor until that's getting better or fixed because I can't handle it.

Well, it's very frustrating because I have to have her lift all this stuff for me and I can't just watch her lift stuff for me. That doesn't feel right. Not only that but he's it's just affected his quality of life. He has been very unhappy about it. As I'm sure a lot of you we are finding out deal with chronic pain all the time. Yeah, but of course I went in and did tests on everything just to make sure it wasn't some kidney problem or something more serious. Everything is totally fine. There's just something wrong with like a disc back there or something. But

I have been doing these stretches and exercises daily and it's been helping quite a bit and then finding a way to a position to sleep that doesn't hurt in the morning. We'll probably get a lot of help with the bigger projects because we just probably can't handle it just two of us broken old people on our own. Yeah, getting old sucks you guys. Oh yeah, he turned 40. Yeah, and I know everyone over 40 is like oh that's still young. But you know, when you turn 40 it feels like you're going over the hump. And of course there's some other stuff.

You guys know that we're kind of over living in a tiny space in the RV. While we absolutely love it like sometimes we sit in there and we're just like, "We built this. This thing is amazing. It's so cozy." But, everything's broken in there and the space is so tiny. It gets dirty so quick. It's just kind of frustrating. You guys know my good friend Chelsea lives in the area. Her house is about 45 minutes away. We've been driving there at night to shower because we get so gross and there's nothing we can do. But, I have all the new fixtures coming for the RV. So, we are going to fix that sucker so that the thing is actually livable.

Yes. But, we have just realized that we just need this to be done to close this chapter in our lives, feel good about completing it, and move on. We want to be able to come out here and enjoy this place and it's got so much potential. We've got these epic plans for it. We might make it a vacation rental later or something like that. There's just so much you can do out here. If you finish it, that's the key. And then there's the question of financing. Uh this has all been very expensive and uh we have uh money allocated for other things like uh retirement that we don't really

want to dip into. So, we're kind of thinking of selling our truck, you guys. I know some of you are gasping, which is what we kind of did when we first had the realization that's a way to come up with a good chunk of cash. But, we actually don't have the Black Series anymore since coming out here. We had way too many vehicles. And so, we're not towing anything. And the pickup truck has been fine for, you know, when we need lumber and stuff. But, a lot of Woah. There's so many booby traps in this place, guys. It's fine. All of the local lumber places will deliver for free or for very cheap. So, we're just going to utilize them.

We absolutely love that truck, but we're not treating it right. It's just sitting out there. We don't have a covered area. I'm I refuse to pay for more storage. Plus, it's not a super practical vehicle. So, even if we want another truck, I'm going to get a different truck. Don't worry. We will never get rid of the RV, our Ruby Suzuki. No, we can't do that. So, it needs to go to a good home if anybody's in the market. only got 100,000 miles on it. Can you believe that?

I know. Ugh, it's beautiful. All right. So, that's the TMI section for you all. Now you know all of our business. The tea has been spilled. That is what they say, right? Do we ever figure that out? Yeah, dish dishing it out. It's spilling the tea. Is that the I don't know. don't guys let us know if that was used correctly. Yeah. All right, enough with the sob story stuff. Let's move on to the happy Yeah. We're going to whip this place into shape and take y'all along with us.

We whipped it. Should I do the transition now or I never know when you're done. Okay, I'm done. Showering seemed like a good idea until the leaves blew right on me. They're all over me. As you can see, we are not in the RV tonight. We decided we got way too gross and grimy, so we came to Chelsea's to shower. And I think we're just going to stay the night because she's got AC and a really nice big bed. But it is already 8:00 and we don't have time to go to the store, but that is not a problem this evening, you guys. Follow me. Our Factor box was just delivered and we wanted to give them a huge shout-out and thank you for partnering with us on this video. Oh

my gosh, look at this delicious stack. These Factor meals come already prepared and they are ready in just 2 minutes. Yeah, these are great for when you don't have time to cook, but you don't want to eat a bunch of nasty fast food. But the best thing is these meals are never delivered frozen. They are delivered fresh. That was 2 minutes and I have a delicious warm dinner. This is garlic rosemary pork on top of some pasta with some veggies on the side. You guys, a microwave meal has no business being this good. So obviously we are huge fans of Factor, but we definitely recommend giving it a try yourself. And we got a little discount code for y'all. If you head to factor75.com or click the link below and

use the code endlessadventurefb50, they're going to give you 50% off your first Factor box plus free breakfast for an entire year. Well, it's going to be nice to be in an actual house tonight and not our tiny, busted-up, cramped, not clean RV. Yeah, we need a whole day to like deep clean that thing. There's so much dust and grime in there. But, we're going to enjoy the house while it lasts, and then we are going to head back out to the property. We have so much to do. We are planning to accomplish a lot in a very short amount of time. So, I guess stay tuned to see if that actually happens.

It's going to happen. How much faith do you guys actually have in us? Cuz sometimes we don't have much faith in us, but we usually eventually get things done. At least today, we are very determined. But, anyways, we're going to eat our delicious dinner. We're going to watch some stories, and then we're going to try to sleep and not think about all the projects that we have to do. Y'all, our noggins have been swimming with all kinds of stuff, but yeah, it's just exciting. We're back. All right, get in there. Woo!

See you tomorrow. We decided to bring the truck into town to get the tires looked at. Turns out three of them are losing air, the two front and that one back there. So, hopefully they can just repair those cuz those tires are not cheap. The truck is all sorted. It turns out that there wasn't a leak in any of the tires. It's just that the weight of the truck is so heavy that it slowly pushes air out of the rims cuz they don't seal very well, and then more dirt gets in, the seal gets worse and worse, and then next thing you know, you got a flat tire. So, they cleaned up the seal, and he said that you can put like a little container case around the tires when you leave it, and then it should not go flat.

No leak, so it was uh substantially less costly than I thought it was going to be. Y'all, we were washing the truck, and we noticed the creepiest spider just getting blasted with the pressure washer, and he didn't care one bit. Get off my truck, man. Let's try TO RE-HOME HIM. [screaming] YOU CAN JUST UH EDIT OUT ALL THOSE SCREAMS, RIGHT? NOPE. I Maybe I should edit out this gunk that's on your face.

Oh, is there You guys I didn't know that this was going to be dirtier than building a home. Yeah. Well, we just got an entire truckload of lumber, and that is because we are going to build some walls. you were going that way. Oh, this way. Build some walls. So, yeah, you guys have kind of realized that this is pretty much an open concept for this tiny house, but it is not completely open. We're actually going to close this in so that we can make some

utilities and the uh bathroom. You can't have all that in the open, right? No, usually you want walls for that. But, the plan is over here on the left, this is going to be a closet that's going to house a washer and dryer and maybe a little bit of storage. To the right of that is another closet because there's not going to be that much storage in here, so we're trying to maximize as much as we can. Then, there's going to be a doorway in the middle that leads to the bathroom. To the left, you're going to have the shower area. Then, in the middle is the vanity, and then over to the right is going to be the toilet.

I'm still not sold on the layout, but I think we've gotten it as good as we can. So, let's build some walls. Well, as usual, that took us entirely too long because it's the first time we've really framed a wall. I used to do it a little bit with my dad when I was a kid, but it's long, long time ago. We had to Google a lot of stuff along the way, make sure everything was to code, but I believe that it is. One thing I had a little trouble with is the blocking up at the top because when the walls run parallel to the ceiling rafters, you don't have nothing to nail

drywall to or to nail the wall to. So, you have to block that out, and I had to redo it about three times cuz I kept getting the spacing wrong. It seems so simple, but somehow I messed it up. It was a lot of ripping out wood and cursing and throwing things. It's all 2 by 4 except this one back wall, which is 2 by 6, and that is because all of the dryer stuff like the vent, the power, the water lines, all that stuff has to have a bigger cavity. So, 2 by 6. Man, I'm glad we didn't frame this whole thing in 2x6 because it is a lot heavier than 2x4. Next, we're moving on to the most complicated wall.

There is a doorway right here that leads into the bathroom from the hallway. So, we have to connect the 2x4 doorway to this 2x6 wall, then it has to go over and follow this angled roof line, which is what makes this all complicated at least for us. And then it has to meet right here and then go straight down and then we can build the other walls. We have our bottom plate and we have marked the studs 16 in on center. The issue is up there is not straight, is angled. So, all of the measurements you can't just do 16 on center cuz they're a little off. Uh but we have a fix for that and it's my good old friend Bob, plumb Bob.

We do treat him like he's one of the gang. Well, we throw him around a little bit. He's just such a precise kind of guy. This looks like some kind of jewel pendant that you would wear on your neck. When you're doing stuff like this, you have so much weird like jewelry and accessories. Like, look at me, I'm all blinged out over here, y'all. So, you just kind of put it in an arbitrary spot, see how it lines up down there. So, the goal is to get this little guy to line up with this line so we know exactly where to mark up top and I'd say we are golden, sir.

Thanks, Bob. Wall's done. Now, will this fit? Will it wall? You know what we say when something fits that well. Like a glove. We're kind of at a stopping point with the framing, decided to take a little break. Well, not really a break. We have to fix other things. So, you guys know we mentioned in the beginning of this video that we didn't get back here quick enough for the last freeze. So, apparently there was still some water in the fixtures and it expanded and blew the fixtures off. It also broke the little strainer down there, which I have already replaced. We also got a new

fixture for the kitchen sink and then a new fixture for the bathroom. We were very sad about that because they're not the cheapest things on the planet, but it's kind of the only way to fix them is to basically replace them. But we have loosened this up, pops right out. So, that's actually pretty dang easy for the lady. Thank you. What I've always dreamed of. The best part is we get to clean this freaking ring, cuz stuff always builds up in that little crevice.

All right, we got all the fixtures on. I think it's about time to test this thing. So, our plan is to check everything one by one. So, I bypassed the water heater. We're going to use the pump and pump through the tank here to test everything. I've bypassed the sink there, so that shouldn't be going. Then I bypassed this sink in here as well as the shower. We've got like jugs and rags under there just in case, but everything should be okay, but we might be about to flood the RV. So, stay tuned to see what happens. first time we've done that. You guys, we have flooded this RV too many times.

It's running. Oh, it stopped. That means it's airtight. Okay. Or watertight. I had to replace these little shark bite fittings and I've never used these before. That's what they had on here before and they're just push-on. I just don't really trust them. So, what's going to happen is either this is going to work flawlessly or water's just going to shoot out from here and then I'm going to scream. Oh, shoot. Did it work? I don't know. I'm hearing stuff. Oh. Oh, we got cold water. And now for the hot. Please just work.

Whoa. Now working? Hot seems to be working. So, we're just trying to test the sink now. And what they want you to do is run water through this little mixing valve to make sure all that's working and there's no debris in there. We'll just turn the cold on. Now, turn the cold on the tap. THAT'S IT. STOP. OH, GOD. OH, BOY. WHAT THE HELL'S this happen? Oh, babe. You have the wrong cord in the bucket. What other cord is there? It's supposed to be a little guy. We just shot water all in here.

Just let that dry. We'll be good. Okay, so we decided to just go ahead and connect this little mixing hose. So, now water should be flowing through the faucet just like normal and not shooting into the, you know, all this utility stuff. Okay, flowing there. Not flowing there. Awesome. Well, everything was going so good until we tested the water heater, which lives right here. And water started spewing out of there. There is a little connection point in there that seems to have broken off. You actually don't have to winterize this, you can just leave it on and then the propane just kicks on every once in a while to keep it up to temperature, but we either had it off or

didn't have enough propane. I'm not sure, but that did not work. Man, we were this close to solving our water problems. Now we can take showers and wash up, we just don't have hot water, but we actually kind of do. This hose runs a very long distance, 200-plus feet, and most of it runs in this black hose here, which gets hot as the dickens. Is that a term? So, I think if we take a shower in the morning when the sun starts heating it up or in the late afternoon when the sun's going down, maybe it'll be perfect temperature. So, yeah, technically we have hot water. It's just powered by the sun for now. All right, but I think that is it for fixing the RV today. Tomorrow we're going to get those freaking walls done.

Well, y'all, you may or may not have noticed it, you probably didn't. We made a key error. For some reason we made our rough opening for our door 36 in. Could be fine, but that's absolutely ginormous. Yeah, it's a huge door and it's supposed to be 32 in rough opening, so we have to fix that. Why did we do that? Oh, I don't know cuz we were going fast and not paying attention. That's where y'all, it's it's really simple math, but it's really easy to just get something off by like a few inches without even realizing it.

Anyway, so that means we have to cut out our jack stud, we have to cut this little header back a bit, and then we have to put a new king stud, new jack stud, and then Bob's your uncle, we're back in business. So, for you guys it's going to go like that. Pop open the champagne, y'all, cuz we officially have walls. Wait, did you get us champagne? No, I was still a metaphorical champagne. Very rude of you, sir. I got very excited for a second. Well, you might notice there's a little bit of a gap here. So, we actually have one more stud to put in, but we did too good of a job of estimating how many studs we needed

and got literally the exact number and that final one was just a little too warped to put in. But yeah, so we got to put that in. There's a lot of blocking and scabbing and stuff that we have to do. But, you guys can see this is going to be our big old closet. Actually, this is the doorway, so you go in from there. So, you open this. We got a big old closet here. And then in here is our little laundry room. We're going to have a stacked washer and dryer in here, a little bi-folding door. Boom. And we have ourselves a big fat hallway leading into a normal-sized doorway leading into the bathroom. I was so scared that we

had made it too small, but this is so spacious. This is going to be our whole shower. It's going to take up this whole wall here. Then we'll have a sink and a vanity. And then, as you can see on the floor, a toilet. I think this place will house. Will bathroom and house, yes. Except now we got to start working on the electrical. Well, yes, but I'm very excited for that because that means we are one step closer to getting AC. Speaking of electrical, we've been going around and just doing little rough markings where everything's going to go, all of our wall switches, all of our outlets and things. So, now we just have to actually have to install them and

then we have to run the wiring. It's so funny cuz we've obviously never built a house before, but we've stayed in a lot of houses before. So, we just have been going through Airbnbs and things that we stay in and we're like, "What do they normally have? Let's put those things in here." We actually have this 3D model of our kitchen that Allison put together and that is going to go right in here, obviously. But yeah, that's kind of the idea that we're going for and then we're going to probably do a bunch of tile back here, but those are all details. We'll we'll have to get into all that. Fun unsponsored fact, you can go on IKEA and build out kitchens for free in their little 3D modeler, and then go to

a cabinet place and actually get those cabinets made and stuff. So, we might do that. Well, we were going to start working on electric, and then we realized we kind of can't because we actually talked to an electric contractor in town who was going to run 200 amp service to this little cabin, and then he's going to have to put a big electrical utility panel on the outside of the cabin, right on this back corner. And without that, we just don't know exactly where to run the wires to and exactly how long to leave them hanging cuz we got to make sure they have enough room

to connect everything up. Yeah, but we don't want to have too much because it's very expensive. Yeah, wire is expensive. That's really what happened is we started buying wire, and we were like, "This is going to cost too much." So, we need to know exactly how much we need to run. Yeah. Right under here is actually where the power is fed to the cabin right now, and this is it's been this way for like 30 or 40 years, probably. This is just an underground cable that sends 100 amps up into here. We don't want 100 amps, though. We want 200 amps, baby. So, right now we're waiting for the electric guys to give us a quote to basically dig a trench, which like a 2-in wide 24-in deep trench from there all the way over

to the electric panel, which is about 200 ft that away by that red shed. Hopefully, it's not too expensive. I have a feeling it might be. So, stay tuned for our next episode. they've been really nice and helpful so far, so maybe they'll give us a good deal. I don't know. Man, you guys, our plan was to outsource so much of the rest of these projects, and I feel like we're getting denied right and left basically because of the budget. once you see the price of stuff, you're like, "I could do that, right?" Yeah, exactly. But, we did manage to finish another project. Check it out, y'all. Our cedar wall is installed. Well, most of it.

There's still a little bloop up there we got to figure out. always something else, isn't there? And then we've been talking with a stucco contractor in town who's going to do like a stucco wall over there. So, that we're definitely outsourcing. I don't trust myself to do that right. But, one project we're still going to have to do is stain all of our posts and our fascia boards up there. But, first we have to clean them cuz they got very dirty from the elements. Yeah. But, yeah, so that's our first official video back at the house. Nowhere to go from here but up, right? Well, literally, cuz we got to go up and do roof stuff.

Yeah. Stay positive, you guys. We still have a lot of work to do, but we're going to cram a lot of it in for y'all. No, we've been really trying to like figure out timelines and stuff and think through all the different projects we have left to do. And I think it's not going to take that long. Famous last words, but I think we're going to get through it somewhat quickly, you guys, all together. Is that it? Yeah, sure. All right. Goodbye, adventurers. We'll see you on the road after we're done with this house. Yes, after this. Yes.
