First Alert meteorologist Diane Phillips is right here with me. Is this cold weather sticking around for a while?
We rebound a little bit, but today it's chilly. It is very chilly. We have our jackets and our sweaters on as temperatures have fallen down to the 40s. We I know it's hard to believe, but we did have 70s earlier this week. So very much a Michigan temperature swing. We're currently at 41 right now in Badax, 44 in Port Hope and Caseville, 41 for Gladwin and Clair, 45 in Elma and Sagenol, and 43 in Flint. We have our pinpoint Doppler picking up on Lake Effect. So though we are seeing that it's a little bit void here just north of the Tri Cities and along US 10. It's just because of radar and lake effect is a little bit lower sitting in the atmosphere. So that radar scan kind of going over it. So everybody is still
working with these scattered lake effect showers for us as we go into the afternoon here in downtown Flint Camera sponsored by Wallside windows. We do still have a couple of raindrops on the lenses. Not as many as the last time I checked in here, but of course the bricks are wet. Folks are going to be using those windshield wipers periodically. Our rain chances do still rev up going into that time for high school football. So that means if you are going to be sitting outside tonight, you will want the rain gear as we are not done with the wet weather. We'll first alert you to those Friday night lights forecasts coming up.
Okay, looking forward to that. Thank you so much, Diane. We are following some breaking news right now as multiple Flint officials submitted resignation letters. According to the city Flint Police Chief Terrence Green is retiring. In a press conference, a press release earlier this morning, Mayor Neely thanked Chief Green for his years of work in the city of Flint and across other communities in Jese County. Chief Green will retire November 30th. Also submitting resignation letters for the city of Flint include Fire Chief Theron Wiggins, Chief of Staff for the City of Flint, Ed Taylor, and City Administrator Clyde Edwards. We will have much more on the Flint resignations in our later
newscast. Well, happening today, Flint Mayor Elect Tanya Burns is outlining her transition plans after defeating incumbent Sheldon Neely in this week's election. At two this afternoon, organizers will announce her transition team members and her official swearing in date. Stay with TV5 on air and online for full coverage. In more local news, commuters in Sagena are just weeks away from getting a little surprise. A major route is back as progress is being made on State Street. Lines have been painted. That's a clear sign that work is close to wrapping up. MDOT has estimated the project to be done by the middle of this month. Once eastbound State Street reopens, westbound Davenport Avenue will have only one lane
open as the contractor switches the road back to a oneway. That's great news, though. The city of Burton wants your input on how to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal community development money. City leaders are holding a public needs hearing November 16th at 6:30 at city hall. They are asking people to share ideas for projects that could be paid for with about $247,000 in community development block grant funds expected between 2028 and 2030. The money comes through Jese County's Community Development Program and the Department of Housing and Urban Development and is targeted for improvements in low and moderate income neighborhoods.

Well, looking ahead to this weekend, women are invited to attend a very special event in Flint focused on making meaningful connections and empowering each other.

Coming up, how to spot a fake agent and the simple rule that can protect your Medicare number. Plus, how the state is cracking down on the privacy of reproductive health data. That's when W&M afternoon extra continues in just a minute. Heat.
We now return to WNAM TV5 afternoon extra. The year later on to say what those folks came, saw, and they conquered. Optimism among incoming members of the Flint City Council, which is getting a major makeover after Tuesday's elections. Of the nine members who will be sworn in on December 1st, seven are new and they will have a new administration to work with once Tanya Burns becomes mayor. One of the newcomers tells TV 5's Trey Harris they want to keep past troubles on the council in the past. Flint voters have spoken and city council is getting a serious shakeup. Seven new faces are coming in, but the challenges aren't going anywhere. So, can this new group turn things around?
The seven new faces brought some big changes. Liddell Lewis and Leon Elamine both lost their races while several other seats will have new representatives. Field House expansion. Among them, Dewan E. Robinson, who won the fifth ward seat, and he's walking into a council that's faced its share of division and disagreements. The residents want us to go up there, vote on issues that matter and benefits their neighborhood and this community. That's what we seek to do. We don't want to be a reflection of what was. We don't want to be looked at as a council from before. Want to be something new. But a new roster doesn't automatically
mean a fresh start. With seven new members, building relationships and finding common ground could be just as important as the issues themselves. It's out with the old, in with the new. So everybody that's coming on board, let's learn to work with each other with respect. Robinson says he plans to start addressing residents issues within his first 100 days and plans to implement new practices that bring more transparency to meetings.
Yes. And while the faces inside city hall may be changing, the issues facing Flint residents aren't going anywhere. From city services to neighborhood concerns, this new council will have plenty on its plate. From a year later on from now, we're going to say, well, those folks came, saw, and they conquered. And that just only be a year in. So, we have four years to do the work, do the bidding on behalf of the people. And I want to make sure that I make this city proud. In Flint, Trey Harris, TV5. Well, across Michigan, the deadline for enrolling in Medicare is December 7th, and plenty of people are enrolling. But keeping your private information safe can be challenging with all those scams.
The state reminds residents that Medicare scams don't stop at just phone calls. They can also come by mail or an unsolicited knock at your door. For free help, the state points people to MI options counselors or you can also go through an agent for enrollment help. Katon James works for American Senior Benefits in Okamison says while getting help during Medicare enrollment, pay close attention to how the conversation feels. It should feel like a collaborative like safe space to sit and talk to your agent. It should not feel salesy or pressuring, you know, it should feel like you're being educated and informed and the use of AI scams are sounding like real agents are looking to help you
enroll. So before signing up for anything, take your time. And the state says never share your Medicare number with anyone who contacts you first. If you think you've been targeted, report it to Michigan's Department of Insurance and Financial Services. Well, Michigan is tightening privacy safeguards for patients personal health data. Governor Whitmer signed an executive directive yesterday ordering all state agencies to protect sensitive reproductive care records. Now, that covers everything from prenatal visits and contraception to fertility care and abortions. The order strictly limits sharing personal info or phone location data with commercial brokers and federal agencies.
The governor warns the move is critical to keep outside groups from weaponizing patients private medical files. High school football still in the playoffs and we are excited for the game of the week. We have an epic matchup with Ithaca and Millington hitting the grid iron tonight. Look at those records. This is going to be an awesome night. But the weather, this may be a gamecher because we have temperatures that are going to be cold, sitting into the 30s tonight. But we also have lake effect showers that are going to be in play at least here for the start of the game and even the majority of the game.
We will have some wet weather. Northwest winds also will be breezy allowing it to feel like the lower 30s outside tonight. We have Graham Blank there on the road. They're going to be playing Clarkston. We'll have spotty showers for this matchup. Still some lake effect to be possible. So, if you are going to be at home for your game or on the road, I would still throw in the rain gear to make sure that you are not a wet sitting out there. Keep an eye to the sky with the lake effect. It's always a little bit variable. We'll have upper 30s for this game, but still dress for it to
feel like the lower 30s because windchills even this afternoon because of that northwest breeze are going to be sitting around 35 36°. So, it's going to feel a lot cooler than what it has been lately. But even while we're outside tonight at those games, we're going to be feeling like 34, 33, even getting close to freezing. So, it's going to be a chilly night. Be prepared with the winter gear. Our Pinpoint Doppler still showing us some lake effect. Mainly seeing rain at this point, but we've had some showers rolling closer towards Fenton this morning that had some frozen precipitation. Also around Gaylord, you can see a little bit of that frozen preip trying to come in here closer
towards northern OMA County. So, we still can have a couple of snowflakes that mix in, but a lot of us will keep it rain. We do have just scattered lake effect all throughout Mid Michigan currently. So, that will be the play for us here through the night and we will have it to be mainly rain at kickoff, but you still could have a snowflake that tries to mix in. Thankfully, a lot of this will push out by Saturday morning. Still with this cloud cover, I'm worried a sprinkle could linger. So, we may not be completely dry to start, but with some patience at the end of the day, at least the end of our daylight, we see some sunshine coming in. Now, into the thumb, still some cloud cover
could hold, but it's around 4:00 that we do start to see some sun. So, we'll have about 1 hour before then that sun goes down. As we go into Sunday morning, we do have a drier forecast, but we are watching a system to be nearby. So for the weekend, temperatures do start to warm back up a little bit. We get right around 50° on Saturday, but we have the cloud cover that just takes so long to push out and into Sunday, highs around 55, but we do have a mix of some clouds and some sunshine. Then the First Alert 7-day forecast, we have 50s not only for the weekend, but into early next week. And a lot of sunshine still around. A few clouds though have started to pick up. We'll be watching for some sprinkles
and some showers on the book ends of the weekend, but overall it's a very pleasant forecast. We do though see by day seven some cooler high temperatures causing a little more lake effect. Not bad football weather for the weekend. We appreciate it. Thank you so much Diane. Miss the story my friends, you can always catch up on our YouTube channel.
