Spring Cleaning And Kamp Improvements. | Transcript:

Hey, what's going on everybody? We are hanging out at the big pond and there is a lot going on, let me tell you. I have been working nonstop on the camp and I want to show you what I'm up to. So, uh, let's get to it. All right, everybody. Here's the deal. We are working away on our fence. Uh, I harvested some more bamboo. There goes a little basil list right now. Uh, harvested some more bamboo. And this is what we're doing. We're just running it um horizontally so we get a lot of coverage. And that's it. I mean, it just kind of looks cool. It's very uh Gilligan's

Island, Robinson, Caruso, Captain Caveman, take your pick. It's pretty jungly if you ask me. So, I've actually got to run it all the way down. Uh, but I do have quite a bit of it, so I think we'll be in good shape. I've got different species of bamboo. This is Guada bamboo from South America. It's used for construction. Uh, normally you would treat the bamboo, but, you know, we're just using it as a containment. It's nice and strong, and it'll keep the tortoises and turtles in, which I think is fantastic, and it looks cool. I think it's just a cool look. Uh what I do is I

run it and then we staple the wire to the back of the bamboo. You can see there's my staple gun. Uh but this is very strong and this will actually keep tortoises like the sculcatas from busting through that wire and heading down there. So what we're creating also is a really cool walkway. And eventually I'm going to open this up and let the sculcatas wander all the way around. Uh that's pretty cool. Thank you to all our loyal Patreon members out there who have helped to create an amazing reptile community online with us. This week's shout out goes to Daniel Lentini.

I'm excited about that. It's uh it is what it is, man. We're just working away here. Uh this whole area of camp we rarely ever see and I want to really kind of create a cool kind of walk, nature walk through this area. We want different plants. We want different uh animals. It'll be really cool. Here it is kind of walking around. Look at that bassilisk. Look at that guy. Get out of here you crazy basilisk. I love when they go running on their hind legs. Here's a Asian wood turtle. I'm really happy because the fence even without the bamboo is strong

enough to contain these guys. And that's fantastic because now as you can see we have isolated them. We've minimized where they can actually walk. So, this is going to really help me find their eggs a lot easier. Um, which is important. I kind of like that. Plus, we're also getting some other animals that are going to be living in this pond, and I want to keep them contained. Uh, we now have this containment as well as the perimeter fence. And of course, this one is nice and small. Uh, the gauge and size of the holes is small so that we don't have any babies that I miss

getting out. That's another cool thing. We've got some animals coming from San Diego Zoo. Uh some other painted terrapens on the way. Badger borensis. So very cool. These are animals that need help. They're endangered in the wild and we're going to keep them here at the camp which is fantastic. Uh I love becoming a kind of uh as I've been mentioning a reptile mintment community, a place where these animals can retire for the rest of their lives. Now I did some work by the pond. You guys got to check it out. Uh, let me show you what I had to do right now. This was a lot

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Heat. Hey peep. All right. So, let's have a look at my hard work. Let me show you. Uh just some spring cleaning, if you will. Uh wanted to get rid of a lot of the uh foliage at the moment so that I can really

kind of keep an eye on everyone. Plus, I'm also allowing the red foot tortoises to wander around, eat all the weeds. They're doing a fantastic job. But if you look over here, let's go over to the front of the pond so you can look back. I made some adjustments that are going to make things a lot easier for our basking curtles. We got the log out that was covered with um that was just covered with ferns. We ripped the ferns off and we moved the placement. Here's everyone having some watermelon. I hooked them up with a little watermelon. What's up, guys? Uh

I like where the log is now because it's a it's in a more sunny area, so we'll get some basking going on there. We cleaned up all the weeds on the far side. We cleaned up all the weeds that were over here. All the ferns popping out. just want to be able to view it and have the Redfoots kind of get ahead of everything this summer and just keep mowing it down. Uh they are the best yardsmen uh you can imagine. They just wander all over and they groom the place. It's really cool. Uh all of our large turtles are doing well, which is another fantastic thing. I'm really stoked on

that. Just keeping everything going here and we're hoping to continue to evolve this place. Uh I have some weeds I pulled out here, but again got rid of some of the ferns that were kind of clogging the waterfall. You want to allow this to really drain. The fish are really going crazy over there. To really drain and flow nicely. You can see it's pulling out debris and then it heads down into its reservoir. Uh, let's go ahead wander down here. It's so funny. You give the tortoises an option. Uh, they can stay here or they can go up there. They all tend to like going up there

because that's where all the good green stuff is to eat. Everything down here has been eaten out of existence by those guys. But let's go ahead and grab some of this hibiscus. Look at how nice this hibiscus plant's doing. Uh, very good. We can grab some more of that. Let's go give these guys a treat. So yeah, I've been very busy. Oh, look at this. There you go. Have that. Go for that instead. Instead of that Rudy Barky stuff, go for the good stuff, kid. Yeah, he's on it. It's just so much fun seeing these guys out here. I love it. I love providing

large enclosures. Large naturalistic enclosures. Speaking of large and naturalistic, let's take a look at Bella. Our little girl Bella. We have not visited with her in a while. Look at her. She's getting big. Yes, she is. Hey, Bella. Come here, Be. What the hella? Come on, Bella. Look at how big you've gotten. Oh, you're going to be shedding soon. Yes, you are. She's going to be shedding soon. Look at those opaque eyes. And you can tell just by her wrinkly skin. You can tell this is going to be some shedding going on. So, we're just pulling her out. But she's got such a

beautiful heavy body. Oh my god, I love her. Look at that iridesence on her. So cool. We don't want her to slither on under some of these ferns or some of these screw pine. Actually, just kind of want to keep her out here. Let's have her wander out here a little bit. Now, of course, she's going to want to hide herself because when they shed, they like to hide because they can't see so well, and she doesn't want to be exposed. But I'm here. Daddy's here. Don't worry. We ain't going to let nothing bad happened to you. But she's looking pretty big. I think we can almost get her all in

frame. Look at that. She's definitely uh at least 6 foot. Very healthy boa. And we're going to keep her getting bigger. Hopefully, we'll get a nice 12t long boa. That would be amazing. Really good. Beautiful female and real happy with how she's behaving even when she's got those foggy eyes. That's great. Let's go ahead and lift her up. Nice and warm. This snake's beautiful. Oh, she's so beautiful. Let's get you back up here. Snake cam, everybody. It's snake cam. Are you going to go in your Yeah, she's going to go on in there. She's been annoyed. Oh my god. The best. Really

cool. enclosure. She's doing well in it. She's got basking areas. She's got nice greenery, places to hide. She's got that cave with a heater in it when she needs it. Uh overall, love having Bella here with me. Got to have a boa. I love her. And uh update, I spoke with my buddy Mike H today and he just recently has put Buttercup outside for the summer uh in South Carolina. Things are looking good weatherwise. So, her and her boyfriend are back outside. It's so nice to see updates on Buttercup. Very old gal. She's doing so well. Here are the Fly Rivers and the Expansa. Let's go

ahead and give these guys a little food, shall we? Let's show you just how tame everybody gets. And dump the rest of this right in here. And it gets pretty exciting quickly. There you go. Yes. That's pretty awesome, isn't it? Look at that beautiful Amazon river turtle. Giant arrow river turtle. So cool. Eating everything here. And then there's the male. Whoa. There's a big female right there. All of my girls are doing well, including Bobby, who was under the weather this winter. She's able to submerge and swim and eat. So, that's good. Here are a pacu. You can see them

attacking the food. Love the way these guys hit the food, man. They hit it real, real hard. And they're an exciting addition to the camp. So, I'm so stoked on Paul Kafaro for giving them to me. I absolutely love them. Big, giant, beautiful fish. That is so rad. But again, uh, you know, you saw me earlier in the time lapse just kind of moving the log around and, you know, ripping off all the fern. So now that log can be used as a basking platform for our Creps turtle. Uh, the other funny thing is I saw another juvenile um, another juvenile soft shell turtle, a Florida soft shell

was in here. So that's neat. Uh, so stoked. It's so funny, man. We had We always wind up getting a soft shell in this pond and I just let them live here. Let them do their thing. Um, we've got some snake neck turtles coming which I'm excited about. Uh, and there's Bobby right there. She's got no problems going under now. Very, very cool. Uh, yeah. So, we've got I wanted to kind of make room, kind of dial things in here. So, I think it looks awesome. Uh, it would be nice maybe if we could get some more plants in there. It would be cool to have alicacia, but the red foots love to eat

alicacia. I can't keep that around long enough for it to survive. Um, but still everything's looking just dynamite here for these animals. So, I'm pretty pumped. It's a good scene and uh, everyone is happy as you can see. Plus, new animals on the way. So, just an update, show you guys what I've been up to, how I'm keeping things rolling here at the camp, keeping animals happy, and keeping the structures built. Very cool. I'm stoked on using materials that I'm growing right on my own property, and that's important. All right. Very, very cool. Well, friends,

there you have it. I guess I'll be talking to you again really, really soon. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to go to patreon.com/campamken for more behindthe-scenes footage of the camp, as well as live chats with me every Thursday, 400 p. p.m. Eastern. I'll see you soon.
