Back in studio with the fellas and a lot to take away from this one. A Dallas team that continues to play uninspired. A Green Bay team that appears to have turned a corner towards this winning way. I guess we'll start on that side with Green Bay. Justin, what did they do at the highest level today that offered them this win? I think the best thing that they did was attack what we've seen pretty much all season a very depleted and unorganized at times Cowboys defense. I struggle to find the words because the execution week in and week out just doesn't seem to be there. And you would think going through film and looking at the tape that there would be corrections made or maybe even simplify some things in some
areas and it still seems like there's big plays made. [clears throat] Excuse me. There's miscommunication. I it seems like teams can have a you know like a have it your way type of style like you could do this, you could do that. And I'm as a defender that frustrates me. I'm sure it frustrates some guys on the team. And so um what did they do well? They took advantage of what was already known to be a pretty poor execution of a defensive effort from the Cowboys and that's exactly what I saw. Yeah, absolutely. And as Justin was talking, I kept hearing Mike Singleary over my ear. you can't win with them. And it was exactly week in and week out the same conversation with Dallas. But in terms of Green Bay, Jordan Love is
one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. And that's just the reality of they're doing it without a run game. Uh the defense is trying to get after. There were a ton of mistakes in this game. 22 total penalties, 11 on both sides. But you have to appreciate the way that the Packers are finding they found ways this season after that slow start to win games. They were one and two and most of us, myself included, had written them off. uh and they found a way to figure it out and turn it around doing the exact opposite of what the Cowboys have done so far this season and they are they're right in the mix in the division and uh this is another big win for them and I think you're going to
get Michael Parsons back. Lucas Vaness is starting to play like finally like a first round pick. There are reasons for optimism in Green Bay after I mentioned that slow start. Yeah, impressive play again here from Jordan Love as you take a look at the splits. slow to start this season, but they've certainly started attacking defenses vertically and as Justin put it, ones that offer you those opportunities down the field as well. You allude to the run game, just 57 rushing yards once again here for the Green Bay Packers. It is the limiting factor of the football team right now.
Josh Jacobs is set to come off the commissioner list. His availability still unknown beyond that. That's a value ad to the running game. If he is available to this team, if they will have him, that's another conversation for another day. But talk to me about that run game right now. This is a have it your way defense with Dallas. You're not going to face a have it your way defense the way they did these last two weeks with Chicago and Dallas. How imperative is it that they do still amidst this success find some sort of run game in the coming weeks? Well, Justin, we were talking about this earlier when talking about the McVey and the Laflurs, both Mike and Matt. And if you're onedimensional as a DB, you know what to expect. But you talked
about how difficult it is when teams are running well, how it makes the rest of the game plan and stopping the game plan of the offense that much tougher to pull off. Oh, it makes it extremely tough. And the last thing you want as a DB is to have a team that can run the football because now as a defensive coordinator, you have to expand more guys or expend more guys to the run game, which loosens up a lot of things in the secondary. You're asking guys to play more man. And when a team when an offense knows you're playing more man, they can definitely scheme you up in different ways. But this is also what we saw today, that was Dallas's problem. Uh Dak threw the ball 54 times
today. I you're just not going to win football games throwing the ball 50 plus times a game. Uh they also struggled to run the football. Javvantee has been excellent for the Cowboys. Uh they just couldn't find a way. Maybe they got a little bit away from the script. They being shotty and that offense because they were down, you know, throughout most of this game, but uh you running the football is at a premium in this league and it helps quarterbacks, even the great ones. Uh I think the reason why the Packers and Jordan Love got away with the win without running the ball so well today, is because they had the they won the turnover battle and they were able to push the ball downfield, so they didn't
need it as much. We saw none of that happen for Dallas. And so you saw a bad run game. You lose the turnover battle. Doesn't matter if you have Dak Prescott at quarterback, you're not going to win. Yeah. If you don't like the 57 rush yards for Green Bay, you're going to love the 48 rush yards in this game for the Dallas Cowboys. It's something both of these teams need to get right as Dallas falls to two and four. Green Bay now 4-2. But there are certain aspects of this Green Bay team, whether it's the deep passing game or this defense that are rounding into form at the right time. They give up 14 to Tampa, seven to Chicago, and 13 here to Dallas the last
three games. Justin, where have you seen the maturation with this defensive group for Green Bay? I love what the competitiveness that they're playing with. I think this is honestly to me as a defensive back, this is one of the more um put together groups on paper. I think they've drafted well over the years. I think they're putting guys in position to be successful. And oh, by the way, this is without some of their key pieces um on the defensive side of the field that are still waiting to come back from injury. Um I always thought Nixon, uh McKenna, these guys play with a certain fire and attitude. Bullard was all over the field today. These guys play with a competitiveness like we don't need certain pieces in order for us to
succeed. At the end of the day, football's a one-on-one matchup. And the guys that take that personally, like the guys I just named, they will find ways to win you football games. And listen, going into this season, Dallas has did the Gotti thing. And you know, we keep saying like, hey, Dak is a great quarterback in this league, but there are weeks where it's like, dude, I you know, you got CD Lamb, what are you doing? you know, we got George Pickkins and I'm I'm starting to question more of the willingness to want to go out there and be the best as opposed to just saying you're the best for them. And uh but anyway, besides the point, Green Bay just showed up really well on defense today, especially the secondary.
As excited as you were, you didn't mention one of the most excited times you had this evening watching this game. Evan Williams uh in the slot uh on the opposite side of the 3x1 gets the red zone interception as beautifully. Is that Dak's fault or not? Or is that just Jonathan Ganon in his bag? Uh, that's Jonathan Ganon in his bag. I gotta give prop that's and that you one of the best things that I love as a defender is playing that chess match with the quarterback, right? And so, I mean, what a play call this uh Williams backside on the line of scrimmage. And what I think they were playing is some type of version of a cover three. The running back stayed in which freed up
Williams to be the weak hook defender which means in a three by one CD Lamb was at three running that crossing route over and um front side you know if that running back stays in backside I'm picking up a deep high safety on the other side and Dak's not he's like I got this guy on the line of scrimmage at best he's going to the flat. Yeah. Uh and that's what I mean though like the chess match right and like setting that play up perfectly. Uh that's really just perfect execution from the players and then Ganon obviously calling that play. It's a tough one, almost an impossible one for Dak to sort through, but everything's looking pretty murky right now for the quarterback. I got his numbers the last two weeks here. 58 to
96. That's 60%. Two touchdowns, four interceptions. Another one in this one that was called off due to a sort of a phantom roughing the passer. It's not good right now, guys. This is back-to-back starts under 20 points for the first time since 2019 for Dakota Rain. It's not raining right now or maybe it's it's raining on the parade, Ryan, when you look at Dak and the way that he's played. What's gone wrong as of late for a guy that seemed squarely in his groove three weeks ago? Yeah, this isn't Pac-Man Jones with the Cowboys making it rain. This is in fact raining in the parade. And to your larger point, if this team is not
putting up points, they are giving up points. So, the last four games, 34,30, 24, and then 23 tonight, and then you're scoring in the teens as an offense that was supposed to be one of these highpowered offenses. And Justin, I was talking to Joe as we walked down to the studio. I don't know if I'm more uh unimpressed with the way the Cowboys are playing in total or the way the LA Rams are, but these are two these two teams have four wins six weeks into the season, and no one on planet Earth would have thought that to be You guys promised us stuff. Both of these teams, LA and Dallas, uh big cities and big promise. None of that's been realized to this point. What are you seeing from Dak right now?
I He seems uncomfortable. He seems I always question with teams that have talent like Dallas does and teams that have uh great play callers, the Shawn McVeys, the Shanahanss, the Kevin Oonnell's, right? I think Shotti is a really good play caller. And so I'm questioning like is it that difficult to get your playmakers the ball? Like Dallas's O line is pretty good. Some would even say average, but they have two of the best. I mean, outside maybe Jamar Chase and T. Higgins, this is probably the best wide receiver duo in football, and we're failing to get them targets. We're failing to get them
catches. There might have been a couple drops in a couple games, but I'm more concerned about the creativity. I'm more concerned about the play calling itself. As great as Dak is, every quarterback needs to get into a rhythm to start the football game. And we're not seeing that. We're seeing we're ask I feel like we're asking Dak to step onto the football field and take all the burden of being one of the best quarterbacks in the league and to deciph and to decipher every single play. Are they doing this? Are they doing that? And even for a Dak Prescott, that could be too much. So, you got to be able to run the ball and you got to be able to set him up with easy quick throws to his star receivers so that they can get running.
Get to the easy stuff. Everything looks difficult right now for Dallas cuz I mean good teams, they show you things off of bad losses. It was a bad loss a week ago and another one on top of it here for Dallas maybe telling us something else. A look here at the NFC least. How about this division fellas? Up for grabs still. No matter how bad you are, Dallas, it's all out in front of you. As you take a look at the results, we have no wins over the last two weeks. And again, two of those teams played one another last week. Does SIM be first division ever with back-to-back winless weeks? Come on now. We'll see you on Monday night.
