Giant Arava River Turtle Returns to Main Pond as Tortoises Enjoy a Big Produce Feeding

The video shows a large produce feeding session for tortoises, including sulcatas and a tortoise named Lumpy. The main focus is a giant Arava River turtle receiving her final injection and being returned to the main pond, where she still floats but benefits from outdoor sunlight. The keeper explains that the sun is the best medicine while feeding the group.

What's going on everybody? Today we've got a whole bunch of produce and we're going to feed our tortoises. We're also going to give the final injection on our giant Arava River turtle and get her back into the main pond. She still floats, but I want to get her outside because the sun is always the best medicine. At least that's what my mom used to say. So all right, let's get to it. Oh, yeah. The sulcatas are very happy and then more importantly, Lumpy's been doing great over here. Lumpy and Hercules are getting along. He just didn't see the food, so I threw some food over here close to him, but Lumpy's looking good. He is eating. He

is moving around. He's doing awesome here with these guys, so I'm pretty excited about that. All the sulcatas are in one spot. So when I do things like feed, it makes it super easy. So I'll think with feeding produce is you want to do it um, you know, in addition to some of the stuff we get from Fluker. Now, what's really cool is that Fluker supports this channel. It is not easy. So they really have helped us out for such a long time making sure that the animals are fed. And their diets are extremely healthy. But even that even with all that, you do need to make sure

that you're feeding them uh non-commercial foods. And so we feed brows. Oh, hold on. We feed some brows. We feed produce a few times a month and that basically helps everybody out, keeps their nutrition good, and makes them happy. Now, let's get these Aldabras fed. All right, so everyone's fed. We got the Aldabras some food. They're all coming over here. They're mowing the lawn across the street. But, my buddy Roberto showed up and uh he's from my local bike shop, Riders Only. There he is. He's also the buddy who helps feed the animals while I'm away. I can count on Roberto to help me out. So, we're giving just a treat of banana to the galapagos and they get a little treat. But, um

let's go walk around. Come on, Roberto, let's go look at some of the critters eating. We fed everybody, to be honest with you. Roberto showed up. We got to gab and uh you know I didn't I You've seen one tortoise eat, you've seen them all. Let's have a walk here. We uh we got the radiateds fed. Look at everybody eating. It's so fun. I love seeing tortoises mowing down. It's awesome stuff. So, there they are. We got the romaine spread out. We have some romaine on the other side. I kind of spread it out. So, if the tortoises kind of further away than normal,

uh they can find their food. We also got some food in the ponds for the fly rivers and the affinis over here at our Frida's pond which is just amazing. Thanks to our friends at Aquascape. I love this pond, Roberto. It's it's pretty cool. Um oh, here we go. There is Diego. Yeah, here's Diego and there's Frida. They're chowing down on some romaine. So, these guys are, you know, heavily uh leaning towards vegetarian. Fly rivers and the batagur affinis they really like having lettuce, romaine, bananas, all kinds of fun stuff. So, it's pretty good. But, there is a job we've got to do. You guys know the job, right?

We got to pull out What I'm going to do is give the last injection on this big Amazon River Turtle. She's been having buoyancy problems because of some kind of um respiratory infection. So, unfortunately, you could toss that in there, Roberto. Thank you. Here are cherry heads chowing down. So, we got some more blood tests as you guys have seen when Dr. Mike did his house call. But, and the good news is her numbers are getting better. She's actually the infection is subsiding, but she still can't submerge. So, what I'm going to do is we're going to come on in here.

There she is. Uh there's our injectable Baytril. I'm going to turn on the light. Roberto, I'm going to pull her out and I'll do the injection. I guess if you want to just Would you mind filming? Absolutely. No problem. Thank you, man. Awesome. Yeah, go check them out if you're in Jupiter. Riders only, dude. Okay. Tell them Camp Kannon sent you. Tell them Large Marge sent you. All right. So, what I'm going to do is I like to get the you know, when you wake her up. What we're going to do is we're going to give her the injection, but we're also going to pull

her out and we're going to put her back in the main pond. I'm a believer that sometimes uh after you give the medication and so on, some of the best medicine is just getting back out into the natural pond. We'll get her there. Um she should be able to maybe wedge herself into some rocks. Um I'll keep an eye on her. She is still buoyant as you can see, but um the goal is uh to keep her, you know, let's get her healthy or out in sunlight and then Dr. Mike will come back. He said there's some other ideas he has for her as well. So, there are some possibilities. Whoa,

this is a baby turtle, dude. Roberto, you're going to love this. Here we go. Watch this. Heave ho! Oh, I got to get her over here. It's impossible to stay dry with this turtle. Rob- Roberto's face is one of amazement. She's 130 lbs. I'm doing better now because I have this Oh, she just slapped me. Ow! Ooh! God, she's on a uh 5-gallon bucket. What happens when you put a turtle on a fence post? They can't go anywhere. So, ooh, that hurts. She's not happy cuz she knows this is how she She gets a little bit of a uh Let's see if she's lined up good. Yeah, she's pretty even Steven. She should stay there. Now, what has made this process easier has been using a towel.

Let me show you what I do. All right, you lay. You want to I spread it. Now, with Baytril, you want to alternate every time you give the injection because it is kind of painful and it can cause some necrosis a little bit. So, her last injection prior to this one was on this side of her. So, I'm going to go ahead and get her attention with this towel. Okay? See, we got to be careful. Yeah, she's But, what I'm trying to do now is Yep, there we go. I don't want to stick myself with the needle. But, you just kind of block her. And I'm going

to look right here. You want to go in the pec. Get it in. Look at that. Much, much easier than it has been. That's it. Now, she's done. All right, last injection. Let's get her back into the big pond. I think I'm just going to muscle it since I have someone to hold the old thing. It's getting in the way. Here we go. All right, Cannon. You can do this. Watch those things. Yeah, they do They are They She can hit me pretty hard. My legs Sharp. Yeah. All right, let's go. We ain't going to fuss about. We're just going to walk her in.

Jeez, for some reason this turtle's just worse than holding a tortoise. Let's go right here. Let's slide her. She'll slide right in. Oh my god. It's okay. Easy does it, girlie. Okay. It's like christening a new ship. I just need a Okay. So, she's going to not be able to submerge for a while, but here's my theory. Because this is so deep, she's going to have to work hard and she's going to have to breathe out and maybe she'll be able to get down there and wedge in and stay down for a while. The fact that she's strong enough to swim all the way down there is important, but look at this buoyancy.

That's that's interesting, you know. But like I said, I think maybe being out here in the natural sunlight in deeper water will just make it easier for her. I don't know. It's a big theory, but I can't just keep her inside indefinitely. I wanted her to get back out. I needed her to not atrophy. I needed her to move. Maybe the act of moving is going to break up some of that um tissue that's been infected. Maybe there's some scarring left in there and we got to get her moving around. So, that's what I'm doing. It's It's a guess, guys. The vet doesn't know. I don't

know. I'm actually going to look into talking to the people at the Juno Beach Marine Life Center because sometimes you'll have sea turtles that cannot submerge. And let's be honest, she's as big as some of the sea turtles I've seen. So, let's see what happens. So, here she is right here. Back in this. Uh There she goes. It just sucks. I just hope she can make a full recovery. Um I'm not sure. But at the end of the day, there's a lot of rocks. I was talking to my buddy Quetzal Dwyer from Reptilandia, and he said he heard stories of uh if the turtle can wedge itself under,

then it might be able to kind of stay submerged. So, again, that's the hope. So, I'll tell you what I'm going to do. Going to hang with Roberto a bit. We're going to put you guys on time lapse, and we'll check back in a little while to see how she's doing. Look at this. That's a powerful animal. Maybe if I get some kind of weight belt on her. But then the problem is, could she resurface? That's the thing. So, we're not done yet. I really do think we might get answers if I reach out to that Marino Be- uh Juno Beach Marine Life Center. Here she is again. All right, lady. Good luck. See you guys in a bit.

Okay, it's the next morning since we put our big lady back out. I'm calling her Bobby from now on. Um so, if you look, there she is. And look at that. When I found her this morning, she was laying right there. Now, she is a little cockeyed, but she's not as bad as she was when we first put her in. She's starting to be able to submerge a bit. And my uh my sus- I suspect that she's going to be able to fully submerge in a few more days. That's really good news. Plus, Dr. Mike said that her blood was showing signs of improvement, less infection in the blood,

less antibodies. So, we know that the antibiotics have been helping. Now, I wish I could say Florida sunshine would help her. We don't have any right now. But, the fact that she's now able to submerge means my instincts were probably correct in getting her back out into a deeper pond, letting her move around, letting her struggle a lot. So, that perhaps whatever air is trapped in there was able to get pushed out. Uh similar to what we do when they have gas and you just drive them around in the back of the cart. So, that is good news. I'm taking that as a small victory.

Of course, I'm going to keep an eye on her and make sure that she continues to improve. And if there's anything else we have to do, I'm lucky because I got Dr. Mike on my side and we'll just keep this girl doing the pro- going in the proper direction. So, uh in the meantime, I'm going to endure this little shower and get to raking cuz uh we always got things to do here at the camp. All right, guys. Don't forget, go to patreon.com/campcannon for more content and live chats with me every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. And uh we'll keep you updated. See you, guys. Take care.
