The lady talking on the speaker phone, super loud, right next to you at the gate. Or maybe the airport prices for any normal item. Or gee, the gate lice that hold up the boarding for so long. Hey there fellow travelers, Mark here with Walter's World. Today we're here in Savannah, Georgia and we're flying. And today we're going to talk about are some of the things that annoy travelers at the airport. And I'm going to start with the lady that likes to talk on FaceTime to her friend, her cousin, her aunt, whoever, but they're on full blast. So you have it on speaker phone and it could be the FaceTime people that like to FaceTime their friends even though
they don't look at their friends when they're talking. Or the people that are on speaker phone that everyone can hear about their Aunt Bernice's bursitis. Yeah, those people they're annoying. So if you're going to be flying, you're going to be on the phone, FaceTime, remember maybe one, the person you're talking to doesn't want everyone around you to know their bursitis is doing to them, but also it's just rude for the people around you cuz they don't actually want to hear all the stuff that's there. So that's one of the biggest annoyances I've seen. I've seen this one growing a lot up more lately and it's actually starting to have signs
and announcements for people not to do the speaker phone talking or FaceTime when they're at the gate. People who stand on the left side of the escalator really kind of suck. If you have ever had a tight connection or a late first flight and you're like running, sprinting, you understand it. Stand on the right so people can pass on the left. And when you're running on the left, say excuse me and say thank you to all the people who move over for you. And here's an annoying thing in action. People that line up at the boarding gate really, really early and end up blocking the entire terminal so people can't get by. And then when people ask to get by, they get all like, "Coffee, puffy."
Look, people have to get to terminals and gates down that way, too. And if you're blocking, then people can't get by. But I think this really goes into the whole idea of gate lice. And the annoyance of the gate lice is the people that are, you know, in later boarding groups, they really get up to the boarding gate early, like on group one or two, when they're group eight or nine, and therefore they block it so not everybody can get in. So, actually slows down the boarding process, which can be a problem. So, if you want to get out early, it's better to wait. Now, I'm not saying don't like get up and go, but you don't have to be right at the gate, you know, nine or six or seven, you
know, boarding groups before yours. But, maybe you get up two boarding groups before yours and then get up there just to make it easier so people can flow through cuz otherwise, you know, blocking the boarding process. A lot of the airlines now will actually send you back. Like American, I was listening the other day, they're like, "Hey, we will send you back if it's not your boarding group time cuz our machine will not let you board." And some people had to do that walk of shame. So, don't be gate lice. It's just kind of annoying thing. And don't block the terminal. And oh, and God forbid, one of the big annoyances of Jocelyn are the people that stop in the middle of the terminal,
you know, when you're walking down, like in Atlanta or JFK or wherever, and everybody's going and then they stop right in the middle to check their phone to do something else. And people literally plow into them. Look, you got to make a phone call, step to the side just to make it like safer for you cuz Jocelyn might punch you, but also you might get run over by the little carts and stuff like that. So, do be aware of that cuz that is kind of annoying, especially when you're in a hurry and you're trying to get somewhere. Now, another annoyance that you'll see at the airport are the living room lizards, as I like to call them. They're the people that will take three or four seats and put their bags everywhere and kind of camp out at the seats at the
gate where they, you know, multiple people need a place to sit or to relax, but they take up everything. Maybe they lay down on all four seats or they'll put their butt baggage in front of them, plop their feet on there, then they don't move back and forth when people try to walk by. And they make it really kind of difficult to get around and have a space to sit. So, that is kind of one of those very annoying things where people just literally become the living room lizard and just lay around and take up all the seats where other people could use it. Uh. Another annoyance. [clears throat] This is one it's not as bad as it used to be because now everything's expensive in life, but honestly the prices for
everyday items at the shops in the airport, you know that $1.50 candy bar or $2 candy bar in like the normal world is you know four, five, six dollars when you're at the airport. Quite annoying. Though honestly, do I say the prices aren't as gouging now since everything's expensive, but yeah still the price at the airport for anything. And then let's talk about the people that hold up the security line. That is one thing that anyone travels normally they know. Look when they say take everything out of your pockets, yes that does mean you need to take your phone out. And yes that means you need to take your wallet out. And yes it does mean your money clip. And yes it does mean your MP3 player. Like you will see
people that have to go through security lines again and again because they don't take everything out. And that frustration with the people that hold up the line, oh that's a whole other level of annoyance for travelers. So do be aware of that. If you're going to go through if you're going to go to a place that might check for a laptop, have your last laptop ready to just pull out and put on the tray. Make sure you're not wearing clothes like big leather boots that have to be laced up or multiple layers of clothes because those things they're going to ask you to take it off. That's going to hold up the line and it's going to annoy those travelers that are trying to get to their flight.
So just be aware of that. You might see some consternation if you have some hiccups at the security line. Oh and another annoyance that I see is the people that get really upset about wait I just bought this water. Oh I just bought this thing and you're not letting me take it through. Look the rules and regulations for flying have been the same for like two or three decades now and the restrictions haven't changed. So the people that get like well those rules don't apply to me, those are the people that can be very annoying when you're at an airport because not only do they hold everything up, but it also can cause issues that hey then the TSA has to deal with them or the security
personnel has to deal with them and that delays flights and all kinds of things. So that's why those people that think they're above the rules when it comes to flying, there's a special level of annoyance out there for them. Now, luckily I don't have this annoyance here in Savannah when I'm at the airport, but I think another annoyance is when you're going to the bathroom, those bathroom line jumpers. Cuz you know if you're at a busy airport like Atlanta or New York, there could be a line even for the guys room as well. And you have those people like, "Oh, I have a flight. I have to go pee really bad." Guess what? Everybody has a flight right in airport, and everybody has to pee. That's why we're
in line, so don't be one of those line jumpers cuz I've seen pretty much fisticuffs pop out by people who try to jump the line at the bathroom. So, do wait your turn. And also, another annoyance is the people that use the handicap bathrooms and facilities that don't need them. And they go in there and they change their clothes, they freshen up. They're using it, and they're taking a long time, and the people actually do need to use the handicap toilet aren't able to use it because you're in there powdering your nose and changing your clothes and getting freshened up. Don't do that, okay? That is not cool. And yes, some of these annoyances have nothing to do with other passengers. Sometimes it's with the airlines, and I would say this. The
30-minute incremental delays. You know, like you look out and it says, "Oh, your flight's just been delayed for 30 minutes." You look outside and there's no plane, so there's no way we're leaving in 30 minutes. And they keep pushing it back, and so it's actually going to be a 2-hour delay, but they give it in those 30-minute intervals so you're like, "Do I have time to go get food? Can I go anywhere? Do I have to stay here?" It's kind of annoying. So, just let us know. If you know it's going to be a couple hours, airlines, just put in a couple hour delay so I can go get some food, go to the bathroom, do some other things, you
know, get a haircut if I had hair. Something else because that those little 30-minute [clears throat] like bit by bit kind of things just get so annoying. Something that annoys people at the airport are when people are letting their children just run around, not holding on to them, and they're all over the terminal. For me, as a mom who has traveled all over the world with my children, it's a safety issue. It's not about annoying kids, it's about the fact that your toddler could very well be run over by a business person who is hustling to their next flight. Please hold on your kids' hands. Don't let them
run amok because if they do, they might just get squished. You think we get out of the airport without an annoyance? Oh, no, no. Baggage claim has its own level of annoyance, and that are the people that huddle around the baggage claim carousel. You know the luggage is coming out and they're right there where it first comes out, and they huddle and they pack and they're so tight. You're like, "Excuse me, my luggage is right there." "I'm getting my luggage." I'm like, "Yeah, I know, but my mine's right there. Can I go in and get it?" And they're like, "Oh." And it's like such a frustrating thing. What I recommend is
just stand a little bit farther back, literally like two steps back instead of right up on it. Then other people can go in and get their bags and go out. It's a little bit less frustrating for everyone there. But yeah, those those baggage claim huddlers are just a new kind of annoyance that'll hit you right when you're on your way out. So, what are the things that annoy you at the airport? Let us know in the comments below so we can help other travelers to not be annoyed, and we can be better travelers when we're here cuz honestly, all these things out here, if we just considerate travelers, things will work out better. I'll say bye from here in Savannah, Georgia.
