Paratroopers with the 82nd Airborne Division train to be ready at a moment's notice. At Fort Bragg, that readiness starts with one of the most fundamental skills a soldier can have, marksmanship. Throughout the week, the US Army Marksmanship Unit's Instructor Training Group worked alongside soldiers from across the division, building stronger shooters and more capable leaders at every level. We've got a couple of different elements from the 82nd Airborne Division. We got some guys from First Brigade and Third Brigade. And uh they've got a wide array of experience levels out here. We've got some PFCs and we got some staff
sergeants. So, we're trying to help the infantry squad leaders be better trainers. We're trying to help the, you know, junior infantry squad members just be better shooters. The focus isn't just on shooting. It's on building a foundation that holds under pressure. Our individual drills that we're having these guys do, it is to dedicate these foundational elements of short-range marksmanship to their subconscious. So, the shooting's there and it happens. It doesn't matter if the guy is under duress, doesn't matter if he's task saturated, it doesn't matter if he's under pressure.
Through repetition and deliberate training, soldiers learn to move efficiently, handle their weapon instinctively, and execute. For the 82nd Airborne Division, that level of proficiency isn't optional. So, the mission of the 82nd, um you know, is to be a deployable force within 24 hours. And so, with that being said, it is important to have this combat readiness um with the transition that we're doing with the M17 and M4. Training like this goes beyond the range. It builds confidence, reinforces fundamentals, and develops leaders who can take these lessons back to their formations. Because when it matters most, those fundamentals are what soldiers fall back on.
Short range marksmanship or basic rifle marksmanship is important for soldiers because it's the difference between, you know, you and your buddies going home as opposed to, you know, the enemy and their buddies going home. It is in certain situations in the military and during operations, it is the most important thing, I believe.
