Two College Students Built a $20K Per Month App With No Coding Experience

Two college students with no coding experience built a track athlete app generating $20,000 per month. They used AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude to develop the app, which offers workout tracking, nutrition plans, and form analysis. The app has 40,000 users and earned $70,000 in six months. They emphasize finding a niche, using AI for development, and monetizing through subscriptions.

We Built This $20K/Month App (Zero Coding Experience). | Transcript:

Just the other day, these two college guys DM'd me saying they're making $20,000 a month with an app they built for track athletes, but they're not developers, they have zero coding experience, and they're still in college. So, I asked them to come out to LA and meet me and tell me all about it. In this video, you're going to see the crazy simple app they built that makes over $20,000 a month, how they did it with zero coding experience while they were in college, and how the game of building apps has changed forever. I'm Pat Walls, and this is Starter Story. All right, I'm on my way to meet these guys. We're going to meet them at a track. They tell me they built this app that makes $20,000 a month. They're still in college. I'm really excited to

meet them, but I'm more excited to see actually what they built, how they built it, and really how much money this thing actually makes. So, let's go. I think that's them right there. Oh, look who it is. Oh, what's up, Christian? Nice to meet you. What's up, Pat? What's good? Not much, nothing much. chilling. Nice to see you. So, you guys DM'd me about this app that you built. Tell me a little bit more about that.

We have an app that helps sprinters get better. If you don't have a plan, if you need to get nutrition, we have everything. It's all-in-one track app. Started December 16th, and we've made around 70,000 so far. We're at around 40,000 users. We're at like a 4.7 in the App Store. Tell me a little bit more about your background. Like, you guys have a coding background? You guys build apps? Or tell me about that.

I just turned 20. I go to Texas Southern, and I run track. And I'm 19. I go to Texas State University, and I run track, too. We actually met in high school, and we just got really close and became really good friends. Yeah, so we had like trading together and everything like that. We traded, lost like $3,000, just losing money every day. We built the app in like 2 weeks, and the first month we made $10,000. We're like, okay, we got something. Yeah. This is sick. You guys are crushing it.

I mean, $70,000 in 6 months is insane. Yeah. I want to learn how you guys built this cuz you don't have a coding experience. I'm really excited to talk about that. But before we do that, we're going to be doing some [__] around the track. So, let's get warmed up. Let's get stretched out. Let's do it. All right. So, usually when we start, we'll just start by stretching the hamstring by doing some hamstring swings where we just kind of just kick sky. Yeah, you got to like kind of cross over. It gets your hamstrings real They're nice and stretched. That feels good.

Bro, I'm just trying to [__] keep up. Let's talk about how you actually built the app. I know you guys don't have coding experience. So, I'd love you guys could just like show me how you did that. Like, what tools do you use? How do you build an app that makes $70,000? So, we went to Work and we literally just talked to it like ChatGPT. Like, we tell it, "Hey, we want the UI interface to be so and so." We're telling it things like this and it's just adding it. Back in the day you'd have to scan 300 lines of code, find the exact code, change it. You don't have to do that. It does it for you. You then you use Claude, co-work, and Claude code to verify it. So, anytime we're having hiccups or we're stuck on something, we go to

Claude and we have Claude help us and verify it. So, you're using Work and using Claude. But what other tools are you guys using? Whether it's AI tools or not, like RevenueCat. Walk me through all the tools you guys use. We probably use RevenueCat, Apple Dev, Claude, Work, and Super Base. I know for a fact you can build an app and have it in the App Store for less than $500. All right. What's up, guys? I'm going to interrupt you real quick. It is Pat here from the future and we're finishing up the edit on this video right now. But I had to come in here and just say, honestly, I think it's so cool. The app

that Christian and Braylon have been showing me and that they built. These guys are just two college athletes. They don't have any coding background, any technical experience, and here they are with a successful app doing over $20,000 a month. This is absolutely insane. Just a few years ago, this wouldn't have been possible. But, here's a thing. The barrier to building is gone. And this is why I'm excited to talk about our free iOS bootcamp at Starter Story. This is a free program where you, you watching this, can go from an idea to a real live app on the App Store, just like these guys who built the 3 AK app. In this bootcamp, you're going to build it 100% with AI, and we'll walk

you through every step of the process. So, if you're watching this and you're excited about building something, and you're ready to go, just head to that link in the description, and you can get started 100% for free. All right, let's get back to the video. Okay, cool. Now, you guys were sharing with me how you built it. But, I think what's way more important than building, obviously you can build for 100 bucks and it's all, you know, you can do it with prompts, ideas. So, I want to talk about the actual app that you built. Then we're also going to talk about how people watching can come up with a great idea just like you. So, let's go.

Okay. We're here on campus. You guys are student athletes and students. Yes, sir. Let's talk about ideas. How did you come up with the idea, and how did you know it was something that could make money? What we did is we found a niche that not a lot of people were in. We realized a lot of people run track, but there's no apps for track and field specifically. So, we said, "Let's put our app where we already have influence right in the niche." And that's exactly what we did. Cuz we had built up hundreds of thousands of followers in track and field alone with our videos, no marketing. And we were subliminally putting 3 AK in our videos before we even dropped the

app. Cuz we had the Shopify store, the e-commerce. So, we'd be like 3 AK method in on the website, this and that. We'd have it in our bio. Then we just dropped the app, it just blew up. Let's talk about the actual app that you guys built. What is the app that made $70,000? Could you show it to me? Basically, this is the only track and field app that tracks your workouts, tracks your forms, has a community so you can track your progress. Nice. Analyzes your videos, analyzes your actual meals to make sure you're eating the right things. We offer a $10 monthly subscription and a $30 yearly subscription. We've done a lot of testing with our yearly package cuz we

know the yearly to monthly subscription isn't that much, but you have to remember our demographic is young kids. They're not going to spend 60-70 dollars on a training program. They just, you know, they want to buy V-bucks, Robux, and stuff. So, they're going to spend 10, 15, 20 dollars here and there. I want to see if this thing actually works. So, what do you say we go back to the track and you we try it out on me? All right, cool. Let's do it. Guys, the app is super cool, but I want to see if your app actually works. So, I talked a lot of these kids, the app never actually works.

Right. So, can we analyze my form? Yeah, yeah. You just run, we'll analyze it. We'll see. So, what kind of test are we going to do? I'm using the AI analyzer. So, basically you'll run and it'll give you a breakdown and score of everything that you did wrong in your run. Okay. Okay, so when you have your hands, you want to put both of your hands on these lines like this. Okay, okay. Get set, and then you want to push.

No. It should be like connecting close. You feel me? Oh, wow. Push. Don't step, push. You ready? Yeah. Set. Go. All right, let's see what score you got. Let's see. Dude, that's probably a zero. Oh, that's sick. Ooh, you got a 56. Bro, I got a D. So, you got one of the lowest scores you can possibly get. So, Your running form biomechanics are bad, stride length is bad, posture is all right, arm swing is bad. an 80 on something. What did I get an 80 on? Posture. That's what I'm saying. Your initial Yeah, right here is good, but then you just got to Yeah, yeah.

Okay, give me one thing to improve and let's try to up the score. Okay, stand straight up when you run and just try to drive your knees up as good as possible. Let's do it one more time. All right, cool. Set. Go. Hold it. Oh, that's way better. Okay. I got to see it in action. I got it. I got to improve. This is the video. This is embarrassing to watch. Okay, let's what you get. All [clears throat] right, it's scanning. Let's see it.

I'm out of breath. Come on, come on, come on. Intense. Yeah, this is INTENSE. 68! LET'S GO! I GOT A D PLUS NOW. I got a D plus. How do you feel? I feel so good. That's just like a small take of like what the app does. Like everybody who's used this app, I'm telling you we being our damn selling this like it works for real. So like I'm not going to provide a service or an app that's horrible. I mean this is cool. This is what's possible with AI. If you have any specialty in anything, whether it's tennis, pickleball, whatever you can build a niche app like you guys built.

I'm a big tennis player. I would love to have something like that could analyze my tennis form. Yeah. I'm sure that could be a pretty good app idea. Don't inspire me. Yeah, don't give us ideas. What All right, well thank you guys for showing me the app. I think it's super awesome. Next I want to learn a little bit more about your backstory and advice that you guys might have for anyone who's watching this who wants to build something similar. So Got you. Let's go. Okay, cool. All right, I'm here with the guys on our way to UCLA. We're talking about college. Christian, you mentioned you just dropped out, right?

Yeah. What's that about? The way that I'm grinding right now on the apps, that is what I want to do. Parents are like You stay in school, become a lawyer, become a doctor, but I'm not staying in school for 20 years just to make what I'm making right now. It doesn't make sense to me. And tell me about being a student athlete. I know you guys are super busy, but you still managed to build this app. How did you like manage your time? For any college student watching this or even student athlete watching this. Okay, so time management is actually crazy.

We wouldn't sleep. I'm talking like days When we dropped our football app, we didn't sleep for like four days. Like straight. We were in the same day. Literally like that was when we were both working like at least 50 60 hour days. So the way we do it is since he's still in school, I'm not in school anymore. He'll basically do his school stuff, I'll work, and if I'm tired, he'll work. So we basically kind of take shifts on it. That's why you cannot be a solo founder. If you're in school and you're a solo founder, just chalk it one up to go. I'm sorry

because it's just so hard. Sick, guys. That was awesome. Tell me a little bit more about your guys' background. I'm from a little town in Texas, well, Katy, Texas, kind of right by Houston. We moved when I was like 14. My dad died when I was 15. So, it was only my mom. So, I had to work to get everything by myself. Last year, I was dead broke and we just had to come up with something. So, God put us in the right hands, gave us a platform and we just utilized it. So, now we're living pretty good. Like, we don't have to struggle anymore. Bills always paid. Getting cars, it's just good. For me, same thing. I grew up bouncing houses. I grew up not a present father figure. Like, I feel like a lot of

people see me and him in his life now and think we always had it good when it really wasn't like that. Like, my mom passed away when I was 12. Nobody really knows that. A lot of my motivation is because I don't want to be in a place in life where I'm not happy. Money is cool, but money should never be the motivating factor. It should always be the life you want to live. I want to live a certain life, so I work really hard every single day so I can achieve that. I'm not going to sit here and loaf and mess around and be lackadaisical in things that I know I'm passionate about because that's not going to get me to life I want to live.

Walk me through a like day in the life of, you know, kind of student athlete building something, making money while you're in college. What do you guys' lives look like? Like, how do you structure your days? I'll wake up around 9:00, work until practice if I go to practice, go to practice, go home, do it until about 3:00 in the morning and do it all again. I'm a little more busier. I'll wake up probably around 8:00. I'll go to my first class. Then after 8:00, I'll go to the cafeteria. Then I end up going to practice. Straight as soon as I'm done with practice, go straight to the

office, just working, just working and working all night. So, like, in between class, I'll hop on a call. In between going to the caf, I'll hop on a call. I'll call him and be like, "What are we working on today? What is What's good? What's bad?" So, you have to have a passion for it, but if you don't have a passion for something, you're not going to be successful like that. Yeah. Exactly. Last question that we ask everyone who comes on Starter Story. A lot of people watching this want to build apps. What would be like the one piece of advice you could leave people that are watching this that want to make money building apps?

Every time I'm talking to somebody like, "How can I do entrepreneurship? How can I do something?" I always tell them, "Do something that you're already doing in your day-to-day life and make it profitable. Make monetize it." If you like playing video games all day, monetize video games. If you like cooking for people, monetize cooking for people. Do things you're already passionate about and you like doing because you're going to do them way longer in the same niche than somebody who's just doing them for the money. The best way I see to find an app is if you have a problem in that day, think for the future. Think, "Okay, I'll probably have this problem in the future. So, how can I solve this problem now for in the future

I'll be happier." That's the best way to find an app. Well, that's great advice, guys. Thank you for coming out here. Thank you for showing me your app. Yes, sir. Yeah. We got to wish you guys the best of success. Appreciate it. If you made it this far in the video, hopefully you can make $70,000 with the Next Track app. Yes, sir. We just wrapped up with Braylon and Christian. Pretty insane what they built. Didn't have any coding experience, yet they built an app that made over $70,000.

This would not have been possible even 2 years ago, maybe even 6 months ago. This is what's so crazy about AI. You don't need technical knowledge. All you need is a pretty good idea. So, if you're watching this, if you are this far into the video, open up that Cloud Code, start building something, get it on the App Store, and you never know what might happen. I hope you guys enjoyed this video. Let us know in the comments what you thought of this and who you want us to cover next or what type of apps you want us to cover next. We'll see you in the next one. Peace.
