And right out of the gates, a world-class matchup here with Skubal in his Wrigley Field debut against an MVP candidate in Pete Crow-Armstrong. Hey! And Skubal surprised him with a 99-mph fastball. And that's how his Dodger career begins. That was one of the quiet trades the Dodgers made to get him back in the fold. Bounced to short, Mookie Betts slings one across. Nice pick by Freeman. And Tarik Skubal's Dodgers career is underway with a three-up, three-down inning with a strikeout. I do think tonight, B.A., he's gotten the sense of what it will be like to play for this team. He was booed when he began his warm-ups.
After the trade was done yesterday, Craig Counsell eager to get him in the lineup, but Skubal not your ordinary lefty. Two more Ks for Tarik Skubal, six-up, six-down, half of those strikeouts. reliable catchers and Skubal wipes out Amaya with a changeup. That's his fourth strikeout. Well, two strikeouts now on the fastball and two on the changeup. That ball just presents itself as a strike for such Guns blazing with six-up, six-down. Bradley gets out in front of one. There's a changeup. And that's going to get Skubal out of the inning. Elevates the ball really well, especially with the fastball. He has a really good slider and uh he's a little bit of stiffer than I was.
I was a little bit more whippy than he is. Open up play day with a nine-game lead. There's a swing and a miss. Skubal exacts a little revenge on Swanson and he comes back to strike him out. That out, a fastball up and in. And Skubal gases him up with another fastball. Second time he struck him out with the heater. Now out to Tarik Skubal. Two-two and a little flare center field. Paez is there and the inning is over. But the Cubs get a walk and two hits. Hoerner with an infield RBI single.
