is a baritone. Hello Vogue. This is Luke Evans and you are going to spend the day with me. We are in New York, Chelsea to be specific. This is my friend's apartment uh that I've rented with my partner and my doggy Lala. And uh yeah, we've been here since February. And look at the view. It's quite special. I'm doing the Rocky Horror Show at Studio 54. It's hard to describe what I actually do in the show, how I look and what I'm wearing. And probably the most extraordinary transformation I think I've ever experienced as an actor in any role I've ever done. I'm also in huge platform stiletto boots, a wig. I'm 6' 8. It changes you. It's It's an extraordinary feeling. So, I'm going to finish my coffee and then we're going to
go for a little walk with my dog, Lala. Oh, I've got a really great thing to do quickly. This is really fun. I think these may be the peanut butter flavor ones. Come on, Pooie. Say goodbye. Come on. Hello. Carrots, beets, apple, celery, ginger. Lots of ginger, please. Thanks, guys. Bye. This is Fran, my partner. Fran. Fran from Spain. Fran from Spain in New York. Yes. Hi guys. Nice to meet you. You want some more, babe?
Sure. Goes with your outfit. This vegetable juice is something I' I've been drinking for like 15 years. Carrot, beetroot, apple, celery, and ginger. Lots of ginger. And I swear it's the thing that keeps me healthy. I got stopped the other week on the morning of the April issue of Vogue, where the cast of The Rocky Horror did a beautiful editorial. We were walking the street and some guy stopped. To me, I wouldn't have thought he was a Vogue magazine reader. Yeah. But clearly he was. And he was like, "Amazing uh amazing Vogue editorial man." I was like, "Thank you very much." That was crazy.
Last week I was recording with my cast Sweet Transvestite for the Jimmy Fallon Tonight Show. And then in the evening, I went to the Met Gala. And the morning as I woke up to a Tony nomination for the lead in a musical, it was a crazy crazy whirlwind 24 hours and I possibly can never come back to New York after this experience cuz I don't think it'll ever match it. Fran is running the day-to-day of the business, VDXY, our brand, so he's busy, but that's okay. Busy is good. We are at the Empire Diner on 10th Avenue and there's an incredible mural on the building above which has Basat uh
Warhole Freda Caro and Keith Herring. I can't eat for like 2 hours before the show because I have to wear a corset which is extremely restrictive. It's restrictive on breathing cuz I have to take such big breaths. So, we have to be careful that I don't they don't winch me in too much because uh I can't take deep breaths, which is a very strange thing to feel when you're singing big songs. Amazing. Thank you. Thank you very much. That looks amazing. Yummy. Okay. Well, I'm going to go home and pick up my bag and I'll see you in a bit.
Hey guys, welcome to the stage door of Studio 54. That's under this the theater this way, which is a very ancient part of this theater. Imagine what went on in it when it was Studio 54. And now we're backstage. This is where all the magic happens. Hi guys. This is Vogue. They've been with me all day. There's a lot of beautiful wigs in here and the makeup. This is real. This is Sterling, a makeup designer. This is Natalia who looks after my wig and many others. And uh that is my wig. It's not ready yet, believe it or not, but it will be soon. Now we're walking under the stage. Couple of eyeballs
here. You haven't seen the show. I'm not going to explain what it means. Hello everybody. This is where all the tears and stitching gets done. So these are some of the costumes. Um we've got the narrator's jacket here. We've got Harvey Gillum's Guom's um Eddie's jacket which looks frozen and frosted. A little bit of the uh the usherette there. Beautiful sort of snakeskin vibe. This is my second costume of the evening which uh is a nurse. A few skimpy pieces of my costume. So this is where we should be. This is Emma, my dresser, my very patient, legendary Broadway dresser, and I'm very, very lucky to have her. Come on in.
I chose the color green. I wanted I didn't like the color it was. That's the only Diva thing I've ever asked for is could they paint my dressing room. There's lots of little details. This is uh the picture of us on our first preview. They took a picture of us at the end of the show. That's how many people it takes to put on a Broadway show. This is one of the pieces of my undergarment. So, these are the shoes here. Well, shoes I'd say they're more monster boots and uh yeah, they have uh studs on the back, belts are at the side, and they're platformed. Then they get zipped up on my leg every night like
that. And this is Lala's theater bed. This is where she comes to play with Mr. Squirrel and Mrs. Lamb. Fun fact, when Alan was here doing Cabaret in 2014, he had a dog and his dog was also called Laala. Crazy. We use about 70% of these brushes every night, which is a mad thing because I didn't realize you'd need so many brushes to do one face, but you do. I have to glue my eyebrows, which is with this very technical piece of equipment. It's children's school glue and it's bright purple. And when you put it on, it actually looks purple. And so, drag queens glue them down. And this is
many applications, maybe five or six applications with a fan cooling it down. And that goes on like that. It's very thick. Yeah. And this is quite cool. This is a makeup pack that is was designed by Wicked Widow, but it is actually the original colors of all the characters makeups. So, this one is a very famous turquoise that was worn by Tim Curry. This exact color, as you can see, I use it every night. Guys, is it okay? Thank you. We're now on the stage. crew is getting ready to hide all the sets and the curtain's going to come down and then we're going to open the theater and
everything's neon and this will be full of raid fans of the show in about an hour and a half's time. I got to go, guys. Look, the smoke's coming. It's all happening here. Uh and I got to go and get ready. And it uh takes me a little longer than most people. So, thank you so much for coming with me for the day and uh experiencing a 24 hours of my life. Hopefully, it was fun. Um Lala enjoyed it. Come and see the show.
