Canada's October Weather Shift From Warm Days to Frosty Halloween Nights

October in Canada is a month of transition, starting with warm conditions that allow t-shirts and light clothing, but ending with frost and chilly Halloween nights. Meteorologist Dylan Kukuda explains how temperatures drop across the country, prompting many cities to bundle up with extra layers, gloves, and hats by the end of the month.

We are preparing you for next month. Here is your forecast for October. Dylan Kukuda joins us. He is a meteorologist who will tell us more about him. Dylan, October is one of those great transitional months for the country. We may start with warm conditions and then experience frost Yes, you may not mind walking around the streets in a t-shirt or even a long-sleeved shirt at the beginning of the month, but then, towards the end of the month when Halloween rolls around, many cities across the country will be wearing extra layers of clothing, maybe even gloves and hats.

It is possible to see snow in October. We'll get to that in a moment, but I want to give you a national overview of what we can expect this month. You can see the heat really taking hold anywhere from Manitoba all the way west to British Columbia . We'll get to that too, but first I want to start in the east, Dylan, because you can see the cool air, but it's not necessarily over the Great Lakes or Atlantic Canada. No, that lower seasonal drop that blew remains in the States for those living in Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada. We will see fairly normal, standard, ordinary fall conditions.

You'll see a cool gust of air every now and then, but overall nothing out of the ordinary. October 1st won't exactly be reflective of the following month, because on October 1st we may experience temperatures that are definitely above normal in the east and along the Great Lakes, but as we mentioned, that won't last forever, right, Dylan? Yes, it's a very misleading start with this burst of moist air, but then the cold front brings us back to more of what we should be experiencing this time of year. It is possible that a strong autumn storm will pass across the country. What does this mean in terms of precipitation?

It's not something exceptional, but every now and then we can see an autumn system pass through the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence corridor. So, if you have plans for nature, always keep this in mind, because in the fall, there are usually gusty winds. This is great advice. It's always good to have an umbrella in your car or backpack just in case. Now this warmth will start to move further west. But how warmly are we really talking? Well, we're not talking about summer heat per se, but temperatures are expected to be a couple of degrees above normal in the western parts of the country as this trend reverses And British Columbia is known for its rainy season in October. What can we

expect in terms of precipitation? We are actually going to hit the pause button on the rainy season. I know we've seen these plumes of moisture rolling in recently, but now let's backtrack a little. You'll see these periods of better weather, but every now and then, of course, a wave of moisture will roll in along the coast. And of course, the great question that everyone always asks this time of year. This is probably one of the most common questions we get here at the Weather Network. Dylan, is it too early to predict snow? Are we expecting a huge snowstorm this month? I think it's too early to say who will see snow and when, but looking at historical data, October is one of those months when many cities and towns across the

country see accumulation of snowfall. So, I think it's a good idea to start preparing for it We can certainly put those t- shirts away and start switching to those, ahem, sweaters and jackets. Dylan, what is your favorite fall activity? I would say it has to be fishing. I know this may not be related to a particular fall, but fishing is always good year round, but you might have to dress up a little more as the month goes on because your fingers get a little numb. Well, my favorite fall activity is golf in the fall. This is perfect. You can always use the leaves as an excuse if you ever lose the ball. These are not exactly traditional fall activities. Many people may be starting to get

ready for the pumpkin patches, but as Dylan mentioned, you'll definitely want to swap out your t -shirts for sweaters, and maybe even grab a pumpkin spice latte, because it's in season.
