Moving Into a Tent and Rescuing a Dog A New Chapter of Outdoor Living

The creator is moving back into a tent, but this time it's a more luxurious setup. They also rescued a dog. Reflecting on past summers in a bell tent, they now seek more space and comfort. The video follows the process of setting up the new tent and the challenges of doing it alone.

I'm moving into a tent... (and I rescued dog). | Transcript:

I'm finally moving back into my tent. But it is not the same tent. I'm moving into a very different kind of tent. Actually something really quite bougie for my standards. To be honest, I'm also a little bit intimidated by this tent because I don't know if I can actually put it up by myself. This is not the tent that I'm used to. This is a very different beast. So, wish me luck and let's get going. If you've been watching for a while, you'll know that I spent the last couple of summers living in this beautiful bell tent on my land. It was absolutely dreamy, but the more time I spent in it, the more I realized I could use something a little bit more spacious and comfortable.

Somewhere I could put an actual bed, a work desk, maybe a kitchenette. So, that's kind of the plan right now. But before I can make all these things happen, I first need to figure out how to put up this new tent. The whole thing weighs about 150 kg and it's an all-season structure that can stay here year-round. So, yeah. A bit more serious and ambitious than my little bell tent. At this point, you might be wondering, why put up a tent at all since I have my shepherd's hut? I honestly love living inside a canvas structure. You're so close to nature. It feels so feral and so right. Can't explain it other than the tent is calling and I must go. Oh, and those dormice have been driving me crazy. So, I really do need to move out.

Wow, we've got most of the frame done. Now is Now comes the part that I might struggle with on my own, but let's see. Maybe I can do it. I need to put these legs in to kind of lift everything. Make it its proper height. It's quite heavy. I don't know if I can do this. Don't go out. I put you in. Stay right there. Stay here. Don't move. It's quite funny how originally this deck was only supposed to be here for like 2 months and now it's year three and it's still going strong. Okay, [snorts and clears throat] next up I have to put the canvas on top of the frame, but the canvas is extremely heavy. I think it weighs like 50 kilos or something like that and I can't lift it.

There's just no I can't even pull it properly or push it. So, in order to move it, I got inspired by a very famous pole. Pudzian. If you're into bodybuilding or like powerlifting, you might know who I'm talking about. One of the most famous Polish people in the world, the strongest man in the world, Mariusz Pudzianowski. Now, look at this technique inspired by the man himself. Did you come to inspect everything? Yeah? You're the prospector? Come here.

Yeah? Is it good? Is the quality good enough for you? Sure. Yes, almost there. Just to pull it over to the other side now. You know, this is where like a top up boyfriend would come in really handy. The idea being that whenever I need help with stuff or want to hang out, I put like a little coin in and it like goes in and it tops him up and then he comes over, helps me out, we have a nice time, we hang out and then, you know, after like a couple of hours,

um I can choose whether to keep topping him up or not. And if I don't, he just goes home, and I get to sit here on my own. Like that would be the ideal situation. But, since that is very much in the realm of fantasy, I'm going to have to do this on my own. Well, the canvas is officially on. Check this out. Holy Superhuman freaking strength. Seriously. One more. One more push.

Yeah. Holy Thought my appendix was going to burst. For a moment there. Hey Vic, come. You want to check it out? Come take a look. Ooh. What do you think? It's okay? You like it? But this is your new home. Yeah? It's okay? Yeah. You likes it? It's done. [snorts] It's done. It's here. I made it. Oh my god, it is so huge and so beautiful. Let me show you. This is actually luxurious. at the size of this thing.

It's like a house. Compared to the beautiful but pretty small like round tent that I spent the last two years in, this is absolutely ginormous. Oh my god, what am I going to do with all this space? I don't even have this much furniture. I can put a bed in. You can put a bed in there. I can actual bed. I haven't slept in a real bed in like 2 months. I've seen how people arrange these safari style tents around the world and you can really make it look like an actual studio apartment. A massive thank you to Canvas Camp for this gorgeous tent and all of their incredible high-quality canvas tents. I am so

excited to move in. Ooh, it was a pretty long day. I'm back at the shepherd's hut for now. Um, I have not moved into the tent just yet because I still need to like put together the bed and, you know, just put some stuff in there. I don't want to sleep in like a completely empty chamber. So, yeah, I'm back at the shepherd's hut and I do love it here so much. It is so cozy as we can see. I am [snorts] a little bit sad to leave it, but at the same time, I just know that there's like this amazing sense of wildness that comes with sleeping in the tent. And I just really want to use up like the last remaining days of summer to kind of

just make the most out of it, you know? Yeah, make the most out of it. [clears throat] I'll be back in the shepherd's hut in no time for the winter. Are you excited to move? Yeah? Oh my god, I'm so sleepy. I'm exhausted. Can't wait to get into bed. Tomorrow I get to sleep on a real mattress. Because, just in case you didn't know, here in the shepherd's hut I sleep on like it's a tatami mat. So, it's basically like a very extremely hard mattress made out of straw. It's not very comfortable. [snorts] It's really not very comfortable.

Okay, I'm going to go wash my face, have some tea, and then I'm going to go to bed. See you tomorrow for the big move-in. Ugh, good morning. What did you Are did you just land on my pillow? Did you Good morning. Good morning, sir. How did you sleep? Yeah? Did you sleep okay? I know those dormice are so annoying. Well, we don't have to deal with them anymore cuz we'll move into the tent.

He's like, "Yeah, let's go into the tent right now." Over the last month, my mornings and evenings have looked a little different than usual. And that's because there's been a new dog on my land. Buckle up cuz this is a pretty crazy story. Hey buddy, that's a good boy. I want to tell you guys a story. If you follow me on Instagram, you already know this story. But if you don't, here's a quick catch-up. About a month ago, I was driving through a neighboring village and I saw a dog that was out in the streets that looked just like Vilk. And this dog didn't have a collar on, nothing. And at first I was like, "Did Vilk get away from the shepherd's hut?

Did he get lost, run away, or something?" But when I looked more closely, it turns out that this dog was um really skinny, like emaciated. He was really matted and clearly he had been abandoned. When I asked the locals, they said that this dog had been dumped, indeed probably by someone, 2 weeks prior. And for the last 2 weeks, he was just out on that street in that village waiting for his owner. He would like sniff at every passing car. He was He just waited. He waited for his person to come back for him. And I just I couldn't bear to watch that unfold, so I decided to do everything I could to um catch him. And give him like a temporary

home. I just needed this dog to get off the street so that he wouldn't get killed by a passing car. And for the following couple of days I tried to catch him, and he was just so flighty. He was so anxious, so stressed out, and terrified of humans. And he wouldn't let me approach at first, but then as when I kind of kept coming back with food, better and better food, he started to kind of trust me and he would eventually start taking food out of my hand. He still wouldn't allow himself to get caught by me, though. I couldn't touch him. So, as time went on and I just got more and more scared that he would eventually, yeah, get hit by a car, killed by a car, I asked a vet for some, um, like, tranquilizers, put those tranquilizers in some

raw beef hearts, which he gobbled up, and then I just waited. I followed him around and I waited for him to collapse, um, which eventually he did, and that's when I was able to grab him, take him to the vets, um, get him cleaned up, and now he's here. Now he's here and he became a social media celebrity, right? Hi, buddy. Hello, I missed you. I missed you, buddy. You like my toy, toy, toy, toy, toy? I missed you. Yeah, I missed you so much. You want to get out? Okay, okay, okay. Oopah. Eh. Stay. Eh. Remember what we learned?

Okay. Yeah. Hey. Hi. Oh, yeah, go. Oh, yeah. What are you doing? You're crazy. You're just a crazy dog. You've probably noticed that Vilk isn't on this walk with us. I'll explain in a bit more detail in just a moment, but, yeah, this last month I feel like I've been living a double life, going on separate walks with the two dogs and interacting with them completely separately. It's been a pretty massive pull on my time, but it's worth it knowing just how much Atlas has come out of his shell in just a few weeks.

He's just a little psycho. He's just a Yeah. He's He's so sweet. He is so sweet. I love you, bubba. There's nothing in my backpack. Nothing that You're such a sweet boy, huh? So, when I brought Atlas home, I didn't exactly have a plan. I kind of just knew that I needed to nurse this dog back to health a little bit and in particular to keep him safe because clearly he had been through a lot. And so, thus began Atlas's stay with me. And before you tell me that I should keep Atlas, the reality is that I can't. Of course, I wish I could and I've thought about it a million times and I feel so guilty for not being able to keep him,

but both Atlas and Vilk intact males and they're both large dogs. From the kind of initial interactions that they've had, I can just tell that they're it's just not going to work. Vilk doesn't accept Atlas. Atlas is scared of Vilk. If I kept Atlas, they would never be able to hang out together or live together. They would never be able to be indoors together. I would have to come up with some kind of kennel situation for both of them. Both of their qualities of life would decrease if I kept Atlas. And you know, I think a big question is also not that like whether they would eventually have a fight, but when they would have a fight. And again, them being two big dogs, big

teeth, both territorial dogs, both males, I cannot risk a situation where I'm in the midst of two large dogs fighting for their lives and fighting for their territory, their turf, trying to separate them, risking injuries and my life, frankly, and also their health and lives. So, it's just it's just not going to work out. It's not going to work out. You know that, right? But I'm actually in awe of the incredible transformation of this dog over the last month. When he first came here, he was terrified. He didn't trust me. He was super skinny and weak. Um he had, you know, he has a pretty severe hip dysplasia problem.

Um so, he wasn't even walking properly. And then, you know, after a month here where he's just been able to like experience human kindness, get food, get walks, get access to a vet, you know, we went to the vets. He got these like monthly What are they called? NSAIDs that help him with pain management. Um he's just become this really sweet, very playful, cheerful dog. Yeah, you are a very sweet dog. Yeah, it's going to be very hard to say goodbye to him, but it does look like I have a family lined up um that will become his hopefully forever family. Yeah.

He really deserves the world. I'm going to miss you, buddy. Yeah, I'm going to miss you. You're a good boy. I'll miss you. You are a good boy. Atlas's story somehow got viewed about 25 million times on Instagram. But when it came to his adoption, only a handful of people reached out. It felt a little disheartening, but at the same time, I know that it only takes one. One perfect family to give him that forever home.

I'm really gutted that it can't be me, but I know it's the only reasonable decision I can make, especially given that my own home is pretty unorthodox. I'm about to have a bath. This feels like forbidden, luxurious, hedonistic. This may sound really woo-woo, but I recently had a session with an animal communicator. In case you're not familiar, they supposedly connect with animals on a telepathic level. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, BS. But hear me out. I've personally experienced moments of telepathic connection with my horse Sharman, and I can't explain it, but I know he was communicating with me. So I do believe in a realm of possibility where

different species are able to talk to each other on some intuitive plane. And this animal communicator told me a lot about Atlas. But one thing that I'll treasure forever is when she said that he feels safest when we just sit there together, and I just look at him. He said that's when he feels like he really belongs. Right, the plan is to move in today. The plan is to actually sleep in the tent tonight. But first, before we move in, there's just a really crucial piece of information that I need to share with you, which is that I love my overalls. I made it like my mission for this year to get overalls that fit nice, and I think I have achieved it. Aren't they so cute, and aren't overalls just so cool?

I feel like pull them up a little bit, but hell yes. Anyway, now that you have admired my style sufficiently, let's put some furniture in the tent. To tell you the truth, I don't really know how I want to arrange this space, but the one thing I know is that there's suddenly a lot of space to arrange, and I don't even have enough furniture to arrange it, so that's going to be interesting. There's this rug that I got in Morocco, which is super cute, but it's way too small. It's so small. It looked so big in the store, but it's so tiny. Anyhow, so I am having to buy some furniture and some accessories like this chair I thrifted and it's very cute. It's so pretty.

This desk I actually ordered it a while ago from a small carpentry studio in Germany, I think. And there's like a million other things that I will need to get. And I think this is what they mean when they said that the things you own end up owning you. Cuz now I have a tent and it looks ridiculous when it's empty. So, it needs stuff to go in it. And in order to get stuff to go in it, I have to buy things. I don't like that logic. [snorts] So, I'm going to do my best to thrift as much of it as possible and I'll get things that are long-lasting. I don't want to get any low-quality cheap solutions if I don't have to.

Aside from the bed. The bed is a pretty low-quality cheap solution. Huh! We got power. We got power, buddy. We've got power. Look at that. Yes! Yes, we do. Good boy. It's time to do it. Time to get it done. Time to sleep in the tent. By the way, down these fairy lights look just absolutely glorious. Almost like home. Wow, look at that. What is that? Ooh. Let's go. Yeah, dinner. Dinner time. You want it? Okay. So, the tent does look a little bit empty right now, but still very, very cozy. And I think within the next few days my goal is going to be to kind

of furnish it so that it feels really cozy. Cuz, you know, right now I don't have really like a floor. I just have a couple of carpets. And I don't really have any cupboards or anything like that. So, I'm going to move some stuff from the shepherd's hut into here. And make this into my home for now. Oh my god, I love it so much. Can't wait to get INTO THAT BED. ALL RIGHT, here we go. A real bed. Oh my god. Oh, this is so comfortable. This feels so comfortable, you guys. You want to get on? Come on, get on.

Yes. Good boy. You can place. Thank you. Place. I think Atlas like, "Nope. I'm fine. I've got my own bed." This feels so good. This is going to be amazing. And the only thing that's missing right now is Atlas. I can hear him barking. And, you know, he's I just feel so awfully guilty for not being able to have him here with me and Vilk. And I know there's nothing I can do to kind of keep them both here and have them be safe together. But I just feel awful. I feel really, really awful. The kind of thing that's keeping me going, despite the barking and despite knowing that he's You know, he's there all alone is just knowing that he's going to go to his forever family very soon.

In my next video, I'll definitely give you an update on how that's going, but I know that time is coming really soon and I know he's going to be so loved. He's going to be so loved. So, yeah. It's hard to enjoy this bed, really, knowing that there's a dog out there that would really love to be in it. Hey Vilk, did you hear that? Yeah, there's another dog out there that would really love to be in this bed. You still want to be in your own bed?

You don't want to come join me? Fine. All right, well, I guess this is night one in the tent. I'll let you know how it goes in the next episode. Good night and see you then. This is so exciting. This is like This feels like absolute luxury. I don't know if I'll be able to sleep now. [snorts] Good night. Night, Atlas.
