We made it to the edge of the world. Holy cow, you guys. This is insane. Wo! Hands down, coolest road trip ever. I mean, it's like being on another planet or something. It's wild. Good morning, adventurers. We are headed to the first island of many here on the Pharaoh Islands. It is called Calsoy, but this is just the start to our road trip that is going to take us across the Pharaohs. Along the way, we're going to be hitting up some of the most beautiful and iconic spots and of course squeezing in some unique local food. But to get things started, we've arrived to the ferry terminal in the town of Clocks. And that is because the first island we
are going to is the one that doesn't have a tunnel. We also picked a very, very gross day to start this trip cuz it is just nasty out. Surprisingly not been raining this whole time we've been here. And of course, the one day we get out and about. It's coming down. I'm just hoping we're doing this right. I just pulled up in line. Some guys came, scanned my QR code. Luckily, I knew to book in advance. And now we wait.
This video is not off to a good start, you guys. We got off the ferry. We were setting up a shot for an intro to the video, and I guess the wind was stronger than I realized, and it blew my camera over. Oh no. Did a number on my lens. I mean, how's that? This thing is just completely busted. God, it's like sideways. I think the rest of this video is going to be on our phones. Maybe the GoPro or something. Well, I guess get used to seeing it like this, you guys. It's still going to be beautiful though, you guys. I promise. We still got this camera that's got to be worth something.
We have to stand really far away from it. We might not be off to that great of a start, but we are going to salvage this trip. Guys, if you all been following along, you know that when we arrived to the Pharaoh Islands, we rented this adorable little red car because yes, it is actually very easy to get around on these islands with a car because they have a system of bridges and tunnels that connect all the islands together. And as you saw, you have to take a ferry here cuz bridges and tunnels, they're boring. Round trip, the ferry cost us about 60 USD for a car and two people. It only fits about 12 cars, 12 tiny cars. So, book well in advance if you're planning on driving over here. Although
you do not have to. You can just take it as a foot passenger. And then they have a bus system that goes up and down this island because as you'll see, this island only has one road, only has four towns. There's not much going on, so it's easy to get around. Of course, there are sheep all over the place. Speaking of, they're right here on the road. Hi, love you. But the ferry dropped us off at the bottom point of this island. We are going to slowly make our way up on the onelane road to the very tippity top. And it should only get more beautiful from here on out and unfortunately more windy. And I may have completely busted my very expensive lens, but that's not going to stop us. We got iPhones, we got GoPros, and I was able to put my
little crop sensor lens on my regular camera. Shot's going to be a little tight, so we can't really use it like we use our other lens, but it's going to work. It's all going to work and it's going to be amazing. Just means we'll have to film more of the sheep and scenery and less of us. All right, the north is calling that way cuz it's the only way you can go on this island. The only way we're heading into our first tunnel. I feel like I'm in an old mining shaft or something. It definitely does not feel like we should just be in a little crappy rental in here. Yeah, we need a mine car.
Exactly. Like Donkey Kong or some like armored thing. I feel like it could just fall at any second. Did you hear my Donkey Kong reference? I did. That was a good one. That is the best part of that game when you ride the train cart through the mine shaft. That was the only level I played when I was little. I would put on Phil Collins Tarzan soundtrack and man play Donkey Kong for hours, but only the mine shaft level.
We have made it to the top of the island, but not the tippity top. We have a long way to go to get to that. There's actually this epic lighthouse and cliffside, but you have to make a 4 km walk, I think, to get there. Probably very muddy, very windy, maybe very rainy. Wow, I just looked behind me. Yeah. Is that insane or what? You're telling me it's going to get prettier from here? I don't know about that. Somehow, this walk is described as strenuous and not for people who are afraid of heights in any way. But this hike is not free. You have to pay 200 Danish croner. But luckily, you can pay by card. You just pop into the Thai shop
at the bottom of the trail. That's literally the only restaurant in this village is a Thai restaurant, which doubles as the gatekeeper to the trail. But they give you free walking poles for it. Yeah. Lead the way and try not to step in the sheep shed, I guess, cuz there's a lot of it. We did not plan on coming to the Pharaoh Islands originally, so we had to go out last minute and buy gear. I did not do very well with my footwear. I couldn't find any like neither did I hiking boots. So, I'm hiking in like nice dress shoes and Ericson Vans. We'll see how it goes. We've hiked worse and worse.
Y'all, sheep make the funniest sound. Like, check out this clip I got of one of them. Crazy, right? Yeah. Who knew? Only up here in the Pharaoh Islands. No, it actually sounds like that, which is almost equally as funny. Well, the lighthouse is finally in view. Man, this has been one of the most unique hikes we've ever done. I mean, the landscape is just so interesting. I thought it was going to be a lot more rugged, but it's actually just nice. Rolling hills, a bunch of grass just waving in the winds, and of course, plenty of little sheep wandering about.
I just saw some guy over there slip in the mud. Oh, no. Fall on his butt. It's like really sheer drop off over here and a very muddy path. Down there is the better way to go. Oh man, we made it to the edge of the world. Holy cow, you guys. This is insane. Whoa. This definitely reminds me of our Cliffs of Moore hike. The wind was terrifying and we were on a cliff like this. Woo! All right. Glad I have the pole. Digging it real deep.
This is the ridge that takes you to the tippity top of the island. But wow, dude. Crazy. Look at that. Wow. That wind. It's muddy. It's windy. And that's death. Oh Wow, that's scary. Woohoo. You're not alone. Oh, okay. I live here now. We both just about got blown over the edge. It's certain death. All right, I think we say we conquered it and we go back now, please. Over here isn't much better. Like, it's beautiful, but come on.
My heart is going. Yeah, that was pretty scary. Let's wait till the wind dies and then uh get the heck out of here. I don't know what they're doing, but they have no shame about it. They're just itching themselves, I guess. So, like looking into my soul while he does it. All right, we got to get the heck out of here and get off this island. Yeah, cuz I got a fairy and if we don't make that, we really do live here. Yeah, let's go. Okay. Okay, everyone, meet the seal woman. So, apparently there's a legend that seals are people who have decided to die in the sea, but once a year they can come back and shed their skin and be people again, which is what she is doing here.
So, that is seal skin. There's a whole crazy story to this woman which ended with her putting a curse on this island and saying that men would die mysteriously out at sea or falling from the cliffs until there were enough dead island men that if they joined hands they would cover the outskirts of the island. So they say to this day if somebody dies mysteriously there's just not enough men that have died to fulfill her curse. What a legacy. And also what an incredible spot, huh? Wow. Look at this. It's like waterfall Narnia. It's beautiful. All right, now we're definitely going to be late for the ferry. Let us go.
The weather is so much better. So, we're able to get out of our car and uh take in the views. I wish we would have done this the first trip. I didn't think you were allowed to be out here. Well, it's another day, another beautiful drive here on the Pharaoh Islands. Oh my gosh, this has been the most magical drive yet, y'all. We are on this little tiny onelane road. Luckily, it has a bunch of turnouts, but we're just driving through beautiful pastures, nothing but sheep, and the occasional oncoming car. Basically playing chicken with all these people, deciding, trying to figure out last minute who's going to take the turnout. I did not think it was going to
be him. All the turnouts have kind of been on my side. So, I thought I'm the one who's supposed to do it, but anybody does it. You might have noticed that the shot is wide once again. And that is because no, I did not get a new camera lens. I just took my old lens and bashed it on the ground a couple times like a caveman and kind of got the barrel straight. So, I can't zoom with it anymore. And a lot of functions don't work. But, I think that the picture is clear. Are we clear? Are we coming in clear?
I don't know. It was blurry there before I unbent the barrel of it. Sorry, I just pulled over because I just spotted a magical waterfall. You guys, the waterfalls, they're everywhere in this country. So, this is the island that I believe is the largest island. It's called Strayoy. But, as you can see, it's one of the more beautiful drives on all of the Pharaoh Islands. And as you head up to the tip of it, you're going to arrive to a little area called the Saxon, and it should be just absolutely mind-blowing. It's like picturesque classic Pharaoh Island scenery. Oh, yeah. We are going to fill our eyeballs with goodness today. Get your eyeballs full of goodness in the Pharaoh Islands, I guess. You know, they say get an Eiffel.
Yeah, there you go. So, there you go. It does make sense. Well, we made it to uh Saxon and it is absolutely incredible, but the wind is making it rather unpleasant. Oh my gosh, you guys. We're at the peak of the wind today. 50 plus mph gusts and I believe it. It's hard to stand up here. We were going to do this epic hike. Uh you can kind of go way up in the mountains here. I don't feel like another near-death experience, but I guess this is basically just like a little village that sits at the very tip of this island in this little valley that ends with this shallow lake.
I think the ocean when the tide comes in, it fills it up and when it goes out, it just becomes this little black sand area. Boy, is it beautiful, though. You got waterfalls coming down from this way. You got the ocean over there. This little grass church behind us. Ooh, At the cafe from our previous video, we got this awesome book, 150 Impressions of the Pharaoh Islands. I've been trying to go around and find the exact spots where some of these photos were taken, and this is one of those spots. I don't
know when this guy took it, but he took this grand panoramic photo standing right here. I just think that's really cool. I will tell you this though, the pictures look amazing. Your eyes make it look even better in real life with all the depth and 3D and light and stuff. It's a whole different experience. And of course, the wind. No, the wind is making it very horrible. There's a whole bunch of ducks over there, and I felt so bad just watching them try to hunker down while the wind was blowing them. Ah. Let's go.
Well, good morning once again, y'all. Well, at least we've had some sunny days, but man, it is a cloudy, cold one today. But I guess this is the actual experience of the fair. Yes, it is. This is very typical. This morning we got up and drove about 45 minutes over to the town of Claxik to get our hands on a traditional Farohise breakfast. Well, they have the biggest iced latte in the land. They give you free tea, which we didn't know about until it was too late. And we accidentally ordered orange juice. We thought it was included. So I have been feeling a little
dehydrated. We've been out walking a lot. Maybe this is exactly what I needed. Five beverages. So you can spend the entire day peeing. Yeah, you can. So this is the breakfast platter. And from what we have seen, this is pretty typical that you get bread, lots of meat. I think we have bacon, eggs, lamb, and ham. Uh a few types of cheese, some fresh fruit and veg. But this is what we really see everywhere are these beautiful little breakfast buns. And they're all like different shapes and sizes. And I think each cafe kind of has their own recipe, but this with butter, cheese, and then usually with some kind
of jam. We've gotten it with rhubarb jam before. Oh my gosh, delicious. I mean, is it not just beautiful? Look at it. It is. It's so lovely. They've got this delicious, dense, thick, hearty bread down there. And then this is the lamb on top. Smells a little smoky almost. There are all different kinds of ways that they do lamb here. I think we're going to taste some of that in our next food adventure. But for here, it looks like it's just some probably salted, cured meat that's been cut into slices and slapped on some bread. Well, I'm not going to lie. It is not my favorite thing. Um, it is very lamby, like which is if you've never had lamb before, it can be done really well and it can also be very gy. This is very
gy taste. I'm thinking that this might be some like mutton or some organ stuff in there. From what we understand, this the way they do the dried lamb here is an acquired taste anyway. It's the locals love it, but the foreigners not so much. Luckily, they are also very fond of soups in the Pharaoh Islands. So, we got this delicious looking fish soup. They've got a bunch of dill on top. This has hadock in it. Oh my gosh, look at that. Wo, that's a big chunk of Wow. That is a piece of hatock. Okay. Ooh. Okay, cool. Form confirmed. It is delicious. It's so buttery. It's super creamy. And I love these huge chunks of fish. I think I like this better than the
breakfast platter. But it's so perfect on a like a dark chili day like this. This is what you want, which is every day here. And that's why they eat this every day. There you go. Good morning once again and welcome back to our awesome Pharaoh Islands road trip. I don't know why I said that like a game show announcer or something. The fun is exciting. So, we are not going to get to see every single island because there's 18 of them and they don't all have tunnels and we can't afford to do one-way trips on the helicopters. But there's one to the west that has so much epic Pharaoh Islands
beauty. It's called Vagar. It's the island with the airport on it. Yeah. We haven't spent any time on that island. We haven't. But today we're changing that. We're going to go to the Mulafoser and Gasader. And then we're going to stop by Boore before we go down to the trail in the Bosa Foster. I don't even know. You might as well just stop right there. They say it's supposed to get sunny. They say the wind is supposed to die down. We'll see. Well, it's another beautiful day, but also another boatload of wind.
I guess that's why everyone hangs up their lamb and fish to dry, cuz that wind just takes care of it, man. We actually have microphones in our shirt. That's why you might not be able to hear all the wind, but there's a lot of it. We have reached the northwestern point of the island, and we are about to experience the mulafaser. Is that what it's called? I'm having a lot of fun pronouncing all this stuff. We're at a waterfall. A beautiful, beautiful waterfall.
Well, that's a pretty beautiful waterfall, wouldn't you say? Not bad at all. What's really cool is that it's this tiny little waterfall that falls very, very far into this huge carved out cliff face. But what makes it really unique is that sometimes this waterfall flows in reverse. The wind whips up and it all just flies up into the sky back onto the land. But yeah, this is one of the more magical places we've ever been. I mean, look at the color of the water and the way the waterfall sits right beneath this town with that cliff up above it. Pretty incredible. There it goes up into the sky. Rise. So, you guys know at the beginning of this video, I
dropped my camera and broke my very expensive lens. And then I told you guys how I was able to kind of put it back into place and was able to film with it again. But you also might notice that it's permanently zoomed in. I can't adjust the zoom anymore. And it's really fuzzy over here on this part of the frame. I have a GoPro. I have my phone. I've got this camera and I've got Allison Zoom camera. But I'm trying to make it work. It's been pretty difficult. Oh man, you guys, I cannot wait to show you all the amazing little puffins. We are dying to see them. False. Sadly, it is just at the shoulder end of puffin season. So, we are not going to see any puffins. If it wasn't, there would be
puffins right here and more specifically right over there. That is the puffin island. It is called uh Miches. I think that's how you pronounce it. But that is where you go. That is the spot to see the puffins. Do you think that's where they got the idea for Puffin Rock? That's it. Puffing Rock. If you know, you know. We're not going to go there cuz there's no puffins there right now. But maybe I'll just insert some really awesome stock footage of puffins. And you can imagine that we got this footage.
On our drive to our next spot, we stopped at the enchanting town of Bour. I think that's how you say it. It might be a little boring, but it looks pretty cool. Well, it is a sleepy little town and only residents are allowed to drive through, but they have a parking lot here. And that is extra awesome for us because you get views straight to Dragon Deer. You said you knew the name of I didn't know it until I started talking and then I forgot it. Well, there is a really cool natural archway in this little rock out there.
It's like one of the iconic scenes from the Pharaoh Islands and when you get up close to it, it is dang magical. These uh grass roof houses never get old. Huh. No, this town has so many of them. It's so quaint and beautiful and charming and amazing and all of the adjectives. And this guy's keeping up with his. You know, he has a mower and he mows that. A sheep. It'll never not be a sheep that he uses to mow it. Just a few kilometers down this gravel path should take us to one of the most beautiful and iconic views on this whole island. It is the floating lake over there. There are some cliffs and this
lake sits perched up high above it with a waterfall that flows down it. It's going to look like some like the most magical thing I think you've ever seen in your life. You can see from here that it looks like it just goes into the ocean, but the real money shot is over there. That's where you want to be after an hour's long walk. This is the appropriate walking form in the Pharaoh Islands. Everyone's doing it. It's a little windy. This is the part where the trail meets the cliff. And holy cow is it windy. They warned us at the ticket desk and uh they were right. Because if you're standing in the wrong spot when this wind whips up, that's
where you'll end up. So you literally have to crawl out to the edge on your belly. It's the only way. Oh, is it windy on that edge? Hey, you kept your hat, though. That's true. Haven't lost it yet. Okay, onward. Well, we made it to the top, but this is as close as I'm getting to that cliff edge cuz I don't want to die today. Well, wow, is it spectacular. Totally worth the walk up. It was very eventful. From up here is where you start to get the perched lake view. So the lake just goes right into the edge of this cliff and then goes down into the ocean. Fairly spectacular, I must say.
Well, that was one heck of a road trip, you guys. I was completely blown away by just how drivable these islands are. I don't know what I was expecting, but you could just get anywhere. You're basically 40 minutes or an hour from any point on the island, it seems like. Oh, yeah. I think if you were to maybe go like the furthest you can drive east to west, maybe it'd be close to 2 hours, but only because the speed limit maxes out at 80 km per hour here, which is like 50 m an hour. It's just wild. They've connected it all. It's so cool and it's so easy and there are so few people here that it's so chill driving around. So, so, so, so.
Yeah. I don't know if we're kind of in the shoulder seasons, but it's early September and there's just not a lot of tourists. I think the Pharaoh Islands is a little bit undiscovered. I don't I think most people go to Iceland and don't think to come here, but I would say come here and check it out because we have had a blast so far. Yeah. Just avoid days when the cruise ships come into port. Yeah, there are cruise ships. One came into the capital the other day and uh for a brief period it was swarming with people. Yeah. And we are not done with these islands.
There are more adventures to be had coming up next time. Some delicious adventures, some more beautiful adventures. All the varieties. Exactly. Okay. Goodbye, adventurers. We'll see you on the road.
