somebody tell me say my goods the year he died Matthew are red let me welcome back to Accra capital city of Ghana here today we're going to this huge slum settlement it's going to be pretty interesting I think the city is a land of contrast you can see everything here from really nice Financial districts big nice houses and some of the most extreme slums that you could probably ever imagine so no more talking let's get in the car drive across this fascinating Capital City get into it

thank you so we've arrived at this slum area called teshi it's absolutely incredible you can see on the coastline here there's buildings makeshift Shack fishermen they go out early in the morning bring back their cats there's people repairing Nets really an incredible scene to be honest I've seen a lot of American flags here and I've asked some of the locals why so many American flags and they say you know we like America so that's a really interesting point to see all these American flags everywhere so we've just come into this party Shack and downstairs there's a bunch of young guys dancing smoking weed pretty funny check it out there's joints everywhere and they're just smoking it up and having a dance party so how is life

everything is good happy yeah every day we happy for you no problem okay because all of us so if you're not happy then you get kicked out understand so be positive on or out yeah okay nice man I like it my name be Miracle your name or Miracle how old are you big trouble or just like a slap oh no sometimes they give you big trouble like what sometimes jail time sometimes fine when it comes to Africa we have demonize everything right making our own feel like it's evil which is not evil we understand we have a lot of musicians they take this they have a lot of good vibes they give us good music you understand all this is supporting all those things but they are here telling us there is no good foreign

this actually used to be a toilet area but they cleaned it all the way and now they've turned it into a much nicer City all right what do you say oh it's an engine yeah is this toilet okay right yeah and what about toilets in the wild right nice it's beautiful eh yeah before I clean I can I came before I could just so it used to be very dirty yes now clean yeah nice work cheers brother what's your name me yeah I get it yeah I did it yeah okay so they need building materials from the government yes okay to be able to put up good structures so that they'll be able to because this thing when someone takes it very expensive then it means you are done you are done they steal them yes that's why they are here to make

sure these things are safe when they come offshore okay so they keep watch of these things how much is this worth this one yeah 450. have you seen these stolen before and you'll never find the person so that's why they have to keep watch because sometimes even as we saw the empty canoe over there and it is there someone will go without you noticing they'll just pick it and take it away what would happen if you caught somebody stealing it they'll beat the person before taking him to the police station or to the authorities of those that take care of this place right so right now I'm stealing it I take and you beat me right you're a strong guy so I would be scared of you if you'd come after me huh

how many years would it take to save for one of these three years within four years yeah because like do you go to the gym or this is just from hard work because you're incredible shape right oh yeah because where I come from people go to the gym seven days a week for two hours a day and they still don't look like you so the fishermen when they're out they also sometimes collect the bottles from the water and then they'll sell them sell the plastic they're really using everything they can so a gentleman just came up to me uh really well dressed spoke perfect English uh he didn't want to be on camera but he wanted me to share with you guys personally at home or whoever's watching this uh if they

could come up with a solution maybe the government if they could buy in uh engines that work on solar they think that would be a really good solution electric uh boat engines because petrol is very expensive and also the pollution I know there are some boats that run on solar I'm not sure at the smaller engines but uh you know if you guys know anything about that let me know how do I pronounce your name again yeah okay nice to meet you cool and uh you're a musician right yeah I'm a musician and you said that you would maybe share some of your music yeah to let the people hear the words the good worse in me okay let's go to the whole Global right so I'm I'm appreciative for you to do that for me

yeah sure man yeah sure do you have any samples you can give me an example of your work of my work yeah like we made freestyle yeah anything you want Filippo see monkey but alone Yoda is let me oh yeah foreign we Africans you see we are nobody but we are somebody and we say we have to love each other One Love Is everything even animal yeah you have blood I'm a black man I have blood you're a white man you have blood so what's me I realized is we are all the same because we all have blood we shouldn't think of the colors and the those who can talk like let's say the animals so they can't talk to you so you got them different no it's not good we all want we are one we are equal yeah we are equal so we need to help

each other thank you so much you're welcome and if people want to look you up to hear your music what should they type in my boys are crab boy okay so one of the guys just called this joint out look at the size of it's so massive crazy so you're a comedian right yeah man can you tell me a joke yes go ahead so right now I come here somebody tell me say my good day you die so what I love you people why the people you killed my goats far very few people five million

so this area here is the inlet and so right now the Tide's out but sometimes it washes in and all this rubbish comes in big harboring area for mosquitoes malaria but this is kind of the hangout chill out zone so we're here with uh ayubi right yeah you'll be and you've you recognize me from my videos sure I've been watching you for a while now wow and you know recently I watched the last video on uh YouTube yeah now it's Nigeria with some guy on the waters you're trying to ask him if you could swim will you get viruses and how does the toilet system work here the toilet system everybody everything goes to the water and the children don't get disease or they don't we don't know how God is doing it but even I myself if I fall

into the water or Swim this water nothing would happen to me you can look at my body um I'm still okay is that why you're so muscular right maybe I don't know because you say you don't go to the gym right I don't I've never go to the gym in my life so you don't go to the gym no I don't go to the gym and I've never been just naturally like yes naturally it must be the water then right can I try yeah I've seen that you're doing great you're so kind yeah I'm really glad you came to Ghana thank you I appreciate it's great to be here and how is life here for you life here has been you know very hard very tough inflation I'm a driver I'm a good driver yeah goodbye and let's see this wall you could close what they do with that well recently trying to see this world will

never get you to even quarter of the day you need to top up you actually need to be so busy on the road to get something small you have to work like all day sure very hard we're still trying we feel yeah we're still do you think things will get better or worse oh actually I don't think things are going to get better so how do you see your future the future I see my future to be great very great like because I have plans and I really want to travel abroad maybe someone who got business there first when you convert the dollars to see this yeah you know it's a lot of money what country uh actually I'm targeting Canada why Canada beautiful in a cool place and all that it seem very positive go around and

is there anything that you would like to say to the world I just want to know what to be you know uh positive everyone should be cool with each other and all that and I pray for the best for everyone okay that's Legend man so nice to meet you nice to meet you thank you so much so this here is the uh where they come to wash kind of the bathroom so you can see there's soap around so they just come in here and get washed up this lady is going to show us her house to show us the living conditions here someone's house okay this one also belongs to someone your neighbor yes okay my neighbor okay that's where you if you don't mind you can come yes I'll take my shoes off right no don't worry yes I don't want to dirty your house

oh wow and how long have you lived here for um I think only for a year one year yeah oh yeah and do you like living here no but it's just for tempera do you feel secure here safe no sometimes because of this neighbor of my if I'm sleeping I don't mind because he's a man okay I don't fear like no fear or something like that but is there a problem with uh like men on women violence or something is that why you say that or why do you say yes there's the thieves around that can come in and so anything that belongs to you or if you don't give them the chance to do it they might just hurt you yes they'll hurt you if you are not lucky maybe though just rape you and then really yes is that common yeah the common it happened okay it really

happened around this area and when do you think you'll be able to move everything depends on money like you know if soon if I have money or if I have someone who's supposed who supports me to you know leave this place I think I'll do it how's the government towards the locals is it good or is it not good it's very bad okay because I don't know what hey yeah the leader the Prime Minister President of course yeah he's not helping let me say that and what would you like him to do to make life easier I think he needs to support us like have a look at what I'm saying right now he might help so I need all we need help from him they'd like to see people from the government come here and look at the living conditions and see

what you need and then provide that um I've never seen that before you've never seen it no but you want that right yes yeah something like that should happen at least it will make a lot of people happy well thank you very much for your time I appreciate it thank you yeah you've made it beautiful though I think you know it looks nice okay thank you of course okay so I've been invited onto this boat here in the local fishermen uh they went out early this morning to fish but unfortunately they didn't catch anything got a ham yeah thank you what time did they head out this morning that was 2 A.M two in the morning yes is it enough to kind of feed their families and make some profit

or is it just scraping by Unfortunately they didn't get any catch at all what they caught was rubbish so there's so much rubbish that they're catching rubbish instead of fish very difficult for them to get money to take care of their families do they think this is sustainable like will they keep doing this in their futures or are they going to look for other business if it's not working too well unfortunately this is what they learned from the beginning so it's very difficult for them to go and learn another trade so this is the only thing they can do to feed the family so if there is any help that can be given to them will be well appreciated it's the administration of

this country helping them in any way are they happy with the current leadership they used to give them petrol for fishing but now they don't give them looking at the current situation of the economy it's very difficult for them to even get full how are they able to survive then with all these hard circumstance like how do they put food on the table sometimes they go to try their luck at least they will get something small to come and sell so that they get money to feed the family yeah this is all they caught today yeah that's what they had so most of the net was filled with rubbish and then just these few yeah that's what they've got unfortunately when these guys go fishing a lot of what

they catch is actually rubbish because it's just so polluted around here and a lot of the gutters that lead into this Inlet here firstly are full of rubbish and secondly it's actually sewage from the main slum here there's no sewage system so a lot of it comes in here so you can see the water is quite dirty they say it's getting harder and harder to make a living from fishing here which is you know the bread winner we've come to this construction site here and these are actually old Boards of the boats so when a boat gets old and they'll strip it down and they'll use it for building material something I've noticed here in Ghana is they're just so resourceful using all the old Nails up nothing wasted at all whether it's

looking through dump sites and finding old computers and things and stripping them down and selling the parts or using an old boat to make a shelter here a lot of the fishermen from different parts of this Coastline if they're coming out here to fish then they'll leave their boats and their Nets out then they'll come in here and they'll stay in one of these houses here and they normally give you know some fish or a bit of money to be able to stay here and these guys will watch over their boats while they rest to make sure that nothing happens you can see the slum comes right up to these Cliff edges what I've noticed is a lot of the coastal areas have slums or underdeveloped neighborhoods it's quite

interesting because I've seen a lot of the more expensive neighborhoods are actually Inland right for example in Europe or other areas you would see the most expensive houses on the coast but here it's like the exact opposite some guys out there fishing I believe they've already been out this morning but they're trying again uh boom well done what are you doing oh sorry I forgot you okay video people here are so welcome I'll just be walking down the uh you know between the houses or something and then some guy will be just shouting like come over here you know and they just want to like kick it and hang out and um you know either sing music or you know show me their massive joints other people are

out working so you've got this nice Community feel this has been one of the funnest places I've visited honestly so we're here with Michael again and Michael what are you buying um I've been taking my breakfast yet so that's called six cities it's very nutritious yes you can see I have my egg here how is life here for you sleep in this yes we are sleeping but I'm not living here and you manage the toilet yes I'm living at somewhere else okay I have to come away and go 45 days and come meet my brother we've changed so you go home in the weekend and come back we are living disease and look at Big C people are going there she to do everything there can't compare your country and Africa you know we are in somehow danger

some life that you can't live but I can leave it you know yeah you for example you can't eat here I get sick yeah you seek yeah and you can't you've been sleeping yeah but it's normal for me you've got a stronger immune system yeah so these toilets are open 24 hours a day yes that's very clean they keep it very clean yeah many people who don't want to spend money just goes on the Cliffside right so we're here with Ben thank you very much have a good day lady was helping us out with the toilets so Ben you grew up not too far from here and so like can you explain uh did you enjoy growing up here and normally you see when we are little you don't know anything right yeah but us we tend to grow up we tend to see that living here

it's it's not our convenient it's not good but yeah like we have no choice because that's life that is where God also brought up soon we are just trying our best you know just to do whatever we can to just to get enough and then just to live out what do you do for work what do I look for with yeah it's a crypto Mining and crypto mining yeah oh wow okay so it's it's a new crypto currency system in town you are obviously good with computers yeah and again okay that's right nice to meet you nice to meet you and nice to meet you nice to all right brother yeah sure are you going swimming a toilet off the cliffs so halfway through that interview a man approached and firstly he wanted to know what I was doing here but then we

explained but then he said be careful where you take me why is that I don't know because you know I don't really know the motive he said because during the day here it's peaceful but when you come here at night that is when it gets a bit it's not that dangerous but it's dangerous like you could possibly get robbed day-to-day life living here it's very high because even food to buy it's a problem and then the job still are no more because when you go when you when you're looking for a job and you go it's depending on who you know because even if you have the qualification of a good qualification and then you don't have the higher contact you go and then he has to you won't be picked they'll tell you to go you're talking about

corruption yeah very corruption very bad thank you so much ben appreciate it okay so we're here with Natalie and you've been driving us today right yes and you grew up here yes this area feels pretty stable and you say during the day it's okay but at night experiences yeah very dangerous what they do is they're young guys they try to request for an Uber because you're a Uber driver right so when they do the request you tell yourself okay I've got a customer I need to pay but it's all a trap you get there sometimes they'll put knife on you really yes they will take your belonging into your phone and the money you've done for the day have you like had a knife on you before no but I think they

they saw me as a woman so they never they underestimated me thinking maybe they will have it easy with me but with the first guy I was able to beat him you beat him up yes really good and he ran away later he called to insult me really yes how old was he early 20s did you like punch him yes of course when it is night no Uber driver would like to come to teship when you are in Ghana is a nice place to be but now the current situation of our economy is making it difficult let me use the Uber driving as an example here you can pick someone the shortest fur is eight cities is really bad Uber boats yangu are not regulated right so that's why they do whatever they like but if it has

been regulated I think they will work on a standard price so you have to do other jobs to make sure you'll be able to find for yourself in the family thank you what kind of people live in these houses and most of these machines belongs to government officials but they will never come out because they don't want to be criticized that they are spending or squandering their state money you're saying corruption then yeah of course okay corruption is everywhere and it will never stop if we don't change that attitude those from the higher places are the ones making things difficult for us many people have been

saying to me that it's all about who you know and qualifications don't really do much yeah and if I'm lucky enough then even that doesn't really help too much that is it you have to have connections in high places as a an unemployed graduate you have to try your best to do something with your hands so that you'll be able to feed yourself and your family otherwise nothing for you the contrast in the city are huge the city is obviously not all slums there's modern shopping malls there's cafes there's beautiful restaurants it's no secret that Ghana is one of the most modern and advanced countries in Africa with Incredible resorts on the coast if you want to come here do Luxury travel there's that but of course my goal

coming here is to focus on the people and talk to the people and hear you know how life is for them the overwhelming consensus is that it's hard to get a stable job here really still more to come in this country I'll see you in the next video we're gonna go for a road trip see different parts of the country get out of the capital and explore meet more people there's a lot to see here I'm having a great time here I'll see you in the next video thank you so much for watching and in case I don't see you good afternoon good evening and good night
