I first laid eyes on a robot like this about 10 years ago. And last year for my birthday, I finally pulled the trigger. I didn't realize it would take until the following year to arrive, but it's finally here. Now, I know what you're thinking. Linus, you really bought yourself a robot as a toy? But this is no toy. This is a tool. See, it's not very often that my two passions, technology and badminton, intersect so perfectly. But this is an automatic feeding robot that features a touchscreen interface, an app, and apparently incredible flexibility. See, the analog way of getting in your reps is to have a human coach feed you patterns. But that requires your human coach to be affordable and be available. Then
there's the issue of quality. It's not the easiest thing in the world, and not just anyone can do it. Oh, shoot. In theory, this solves all of our problems and my son and I are going to unbox it together. Except for one. I don't see a Segway in there. For our sponsor. DeleteMe, data brokers are like vampires. Here's my impression. I want to legally buy and sell your personal data. DeleteMe is like a stake to their heart. Save 20% on a consumer plan in the link in the description. This is not the kind of thing that I would normally spend this kind of money on completely sight unseen. But it got a really good endorsement from the former
English mixed doubles pair that came over here for some collabs last year, and they said that the German team absolutely swears by it. And the Germans, they make excellent orange cleaning cloths, so they probably know badminton robots. Holy [snorts] moly. Okay, big moment. And it's more boxes. Okay. Siboasi Next is the best. I had never actually heard of these guys before. All of the feeding machines that I had seen in the past were more analog. So, basically, you just set an angle, set a cadence, and then start and stop. What do you got there? Oh. Fascinating. By It's controlled by a tablet. They literally just mean it comes with a random Honor tablet. This is nice, though. We get a user manual, which
either this thing is really easy to use cuz you just get two pages, or the instructions are not very good. Oh, wow. This actually looks really complicated. Well, let's get started. I'll get this out. These guys actually make all kinds of different sports feeding machines, but I've got to imagine that badminton presents some special challenges. Unlike many sports that use more traditional ball-shaped balls, like tennis or baseball, badminton uses a shuttlecock, which is not only more irregularly shaped, but also extremely fragile, being constructed out of just cork, string, and either duck or goose feather. For high-intensity training, they've still got to be flung really fast, so you've
got to somehow create a mechanism that can do all of that without, ideally, causing undue wear because uh they're really expensive. Oh, nice. 360 shuttles. That's our hoppers, boy. Dude, being able to get 360 reps in before you have to reload is crazy. Reloading this looks like it sucks. Yes. It doesn't get rid of what is already the worst part of badminton training, sweeping up and making rows out of all the shuttles, but uh you can't automate everything. The reason it comes with two of these hoppers is because, unlike some of their more basic models, this one actually includes two feeders. This is important for a couple of reasons. One is that it obviously increases the speed at which you can feed, although I doubt that's important
for most players, but two, it allows you to run more complex patterns. Just like with, you know, something [snorts] like a baseball pitching machine, you've got a couple of spinning motors on the bottom, but a much more it feels almost like uh like a hybrid between leather and rubber. A more delicate surface for the grippers. Oh, wow, that's cool. Looks like it might be kind of fragile, though. Um I think it should be okay. I mean, the mechanism that brings the next shuttle in looks chain driven. Like durability definitely seems to be a consideration in the design.
Everything's really nicely cable managed. I didn't even think of this when we were building the place, but remember how I put power next to all the courts? No. Okay, well, I did. That was supposed to be for like tablets and TVs for like matchmaking and scorekeeping. We can run this on any one of the courts now. That's cool. Yeah, actually Accidental planning. Yes. Okay, how are you doing over there? Uh I took off all of this plastic, but that's it.
Wow. All right. I am so excited. I waited a year for this. I would I'd send follow-ups to procurement like every month or two. Like, "Hey, are we on this? Are they like" Apparently, they're built to order. They don't just stock these, which I don't know. I don't want to tell them how to run their business, but like Yeah, stock one or two, you know? I don't know. Crazy idea. Got a power cord? Do you think that's long enough to go from over there No, we'll need an extension. Ooh! Key fob. Oh, dude, this is sick. Okay, this is to start and stop the pattern that you're running. And also, I have no idea what these buttons do, but look at this.
Hello? The future called. It wants your amazing way of getting in your reps back. Cell phones used to have little pullout antennas like this so that they'd have better reception. I don't think I've ever seen one of those. Yeah, we may be in for a treat. Jaden Sang, who's been doing some coaching for me and also just is an absolute Chad tier badminton player, happens to be over there doing some coaching with a couple of other Chad tier badminton players. So maybe we can see this thing like really in action, not my amateur booty. This doesn't seem very height impaired friendly.
Loading this thing. How does it even No, I'm going to see how it works on this one. Oh, I see it. We need these boop to go on top. Oh, dude. Okay. Okay, I can see how it works now. Oh, check this out. Okay, it lines up this and it grabs one. So it grabs the cork. Wait, wait, wait, here. Let's get some shuttles. Let's load it. This is going to be a little tedious, so one moment, please.
You know what's crazy is as expensive as this machine was, in the long term, it's the shuttles that are actually going to cost. Each of these tubes is about 40 US dollars and contains only 12 badminton shuttles. So um I think a master carton might not even be enough. We're going to be at like $2,000 after this.
Under normal circumstances, you would train with used shuttles rather than brand new ones, but I wanted to have a fresh start and I didn't know how the machine would deal with all the little broken feathers and bits of crud that tend to be on training shuttles. So there's a turning wheel there. So that spins, so, comes up to the high point, grabs, and then goes down and drops it into this receptacle here where it gets fed forward by the chain, so it's oriented correctly, and then gets thrown out. Okay. You ready? You hear that cooling fan going? Oh, yeah, the chains are going. Oh, wow, these are going, too. Don't touch those, that's dangerous.
Two devices connected successfully. Put the device on the center line of the court half a meter away from the front T line. Cool. Okay. Is it like supposed to go this high? Whoa, it's still going. I was not really expecting that. Here's our best working theory. This is just a legend of all the different places that it can feed. This puts the machine up and down and starts and stops. These pages are all the different patterns that you can program. Okay, and then it just comes with this one populated and then this fast mode one populated. And then over here, you can adjust your frequency, speed, height,
and whatever V is, because to me V would mean vertical. And then here, you can review exactly what this pattern's going to do. So, we're going to do a simple square pattern at whatever Randy already mashed here. So, I don't know, he was changing stuff. Okay, we're ready to try it? Yeah. Okay, do you want to go first? Sure. Okay, let's do it. Oh, that was fast. It's so accurate. It's hitting the line every time. First impressions? It's very accurate. I was not expecting that. It was hitting It hit the corner, and I thought it was out. That's pretty cool. That's exactly what I was talking about earlier is a human feeder unless they're
really good cannot do that. Do you want to try faster? I don't know if I could do faster, but sure. All right, I guess we'll find out. Okay, so clearly that pattern is a little bit unfair because the time between the high ones and the net ones are uh not quite right, [clears throat] but I think you can actually adjust each machine speed individually. Yeah, see that's too slow. Okay. So on the other pages, you can actually change the parameters for each shot. These are coordinates. So vertical and horizontal on here. So 54 is there. 30 55 is here. So it's numbered from right to left and then
from bottom to top. Okay, now this is good. We're making progress. So we make a square pattern and then for the front ones, we turn the frequency down, right? Yeah. So let's try five. Okay. Oh, okay. Now it'll do the pattern again. It takes so long to restart the pattern. Oh, it's misfiring on some of them. They're brand new shuttles and I think they're getting stuck. For now, new plan. Let's see if I can help you work on your defense. So it's just going to attack down this side.
Try alternating. One high, one to the net. That's kind of sick. My cross defense is so bad. Man, what a way to get in reps though, right? Come on, cross. Straight. All right, let's see a real player hit. Hold on. I'm going to turn the frequency up a bit. Up? Yeah. Shoot. I think you can handle it, brother. After I smashed it, the bird is going to be in the air. Here we go. let's go.
Kind of sick. That was sick. Pretty excited. I'm good. Yeah. Yeah, it holds 360 shuttles. Seriously? So, you could do that for like a continuous hour. Time for me to try the same pattern as Jaden. Thanks for watching, guys. If you enjoy this kind of sports technology, maybe we'll have TO DO MORE OF THAT. JUST LIKE WE'RE GOING TO DO MORE OF THIS SEGMENT. TO OUR SPONSOR. DELETEME.
