Apple had a welcome home event where they showed off home view, the company's smart home hub. And you said, "Welcome home. Get the out of here. I'm trying to watch the tech news." That's how you sound. I'm James Shrive. This is Tech LinkedIn. And starting at $300, Home View features a 7-in touchscreen mounted on an adjustable speaker base with a wall-mounted version also available. Apple apparently wanted to build their version of the Google Nest Hub, so they made, as Wired put it, a giant Apple Watch for the home. It lets you control smart home devices, make FaceTime calls, and get a personalized experience based
on who's using it. But unfortunately, there's no native video streaming apps at launch, not even Apple's own. It remains to be seen whether Home View will become the brain of your smart home or just a glorified speaker you ignore in favor of your phone, which is already in your pocket. Apple also unveiled a fourth gen Apple TV 4K with built-in microphones for hands-free Siri, a refreshed HomePod Mini 2 with upgraded internals and audio, and the Apple Home Collection, a new lineup of smart home accessories developed with Schneider Electric and Lucking G. Whoa. LG leakers have reported that Nvidia plans to halt the production of the RTX 5090 in favor of making pricier RTX Pro AI cards.
THE REPORTS COME FROM TWO RELIABLE leakers who independently posted that internal supply chain documents indicate that the topofthe-line gaming GPU is dead. Long live the top-of-the-line gaming GPU. One of the leakers who goes by mega size GPU on Twitter stated that the decision was made because the GB 202, the silicon chip that's used for both the 5090 and the more expensive RTX Pro line is now being entirely earmarked for the AI cards, which can retail for as much as seven times as much than their gaming counterpart. The news was backed up by Honging 2020 who tweeted that they saw a factory notice that no more 590s will be produced and that the 24 GB 5080 will be the top gaming
focused offering Nvidia will continue to make. Now, it's important to note that these are leaked and Nvidia has as of yet not confirmed any of this, but I'd say Nvidia choosing money over gamers is about the safest bet in the universe at this point. Excuse me one sec. An OpenAI engineer and Saudi national has been arrested for suspected corporate espionage after he was caught bugging a conference room at OpenAI's headquarters in San Francisco. According to prosecutors, Abdul Raman Alphazan placed a homemade audio recorder behind a TV in an executive meeting room and used it to try and steal company secrets. Alpha's method was short of ideal spycraft, however, as he used his wife's chat GPT account. He works at
OpenAI. his wife's chat GBT account to figure out how to make the bug. And he attempted to conceal it by shoving a big wad of toilet paper behind the TV. You know, where it normally is. This is the opposite color of a TV. Security apparently became aware of his activities just 2 days after he placed the bug and got footage of him checking on it a few days later. The case is pretty open and shut because he also forgot his bag in the building when he went back to check on the bug. And when security searched the bag, they found his wallet, which contained his ID and another bug.
Thus far, the prosecution have alleged no motive, but it's unlikely he's a state level actor given how he is at being a spy. That or the Saudis spent all their money buying EA and had nothing left to train their intelligence assets. They should have spent their money on our sponsor. Oh snap. I'm a rock climber. I've survived sheer cliffs, frozen peaks, and falls that would have ended lesser climbers. They did end something. Every night I relive the same moment. The mountain, the wind howling, my phone slipping from my hand. I grasp for it too late. If only I had OH, SNAP. THE SNAP GRIP GIVES you a secure grip, built-in multi-angle stand, and magnetic

There, that's it. That's the whole intro. I'm worried about the Quake Bits. I just can't keep up with them anymore. Palanteer's CTO appeared on CBS and went on a weird
rant, claiming that AI researchers are smoking to prove they believe AI will cure cancer. He claimed that the increase in smoking is a sign of techfueled mass psychosis, going on to state that the majority of AI researchers are in a millinarian doomsday cult. It's unclear if there's any actual facts behind either of his claims, but it's possible he was referencing a Business Insider article about how founders are picking up smoking for networking reasons. And also because it makes you look cool as hell. Something that those losers of Palencer would never understand. Just joking. Smoking socks. Don't do it. The Entertainment Software Association wants the US government to list Ambernick, a
retro gaming handheld maker, as a notorious market, a business linked to significant counterfeiting or privacy. The ESA alleges that Anbernick's devices are often sold or shipped with memory cards loaded with unauthorized copies of games. Ambernick getting listed carries no direct penalties, but could lead to trade investigations or import restrictions. Ambernick's handhelds may be portable, but their legal troubles are going nowhere. But they're pretty cool. Like smoking. In a blog, Epic revealed its new launcher is apparently vibecoded because why pay developers? I guess Epic's got to make back some of the money it's losing to Steam somehow. However, the real news here is that Epic announced
it's retooling its anti-che software to let Fortnite run on Linux. Fortnite on Linux. Fortnite Linux. No timeline on the project was provided, but this could be huge for Linux gaming and raising your kids right on Linux. I can't wait for the Linux skins to hit Fortnite. Now, that's some horse armor I could buy. Ukrainian drone strikes recently took out several of Russia's Yandex data centers, triggering a flurry of online reports that bot activity across the internet had suddenly dropped, which would definitely fit my biases. But unfortunately, it seems like those reports were overstated. And according to Cloudflare, what actually went quiet was standard web crawler traffic. The
rumor mill got another boost when both Trump and Elon Musk said Zalinsi had gone too far with people speculating Trump had been using the bots to help with the US midterm elections. And boy does he need help. In reality, however, those comments were about Ukraine's bombing of Russian oil refineries, which is allegedly why Starlink began throttling the satellite internet that Ukraine's interceptor drones rely on. That or all of my AI girlfriends were in that one data center. Kimmy, what? Kimmy, no. And speaking of Russia, the country is cracking down on AI generated bear images after a fake photo sparked a realworld search by police and wildlife rangers. The content creator behind the generated image ended up receiving a
fine, but it's in rubles, so whatever. Yeah, it's not real money. The content creator behind the generated image ended up receiving a fine given Russia's record on LGBTQ plus rights. Though I have to wonder, are AI generated images of bears like Al Borland and Ron Swanson safe? The bigger risk might be Winnie the Pooh. Russia is joining China on the list of places where the wrong kind of bear content could get you in trouble. You'll definitely be in trouble if you're not back on Friday for more tech news. Now I got to go make sure the quick bits didn't get into too much trouble while I read you the news. Those little bastards, they're always getting into trouble. I just don't know what I'd do if anything ever happened to them,
though. Got to love those bits.
