welcome back to bite size and welcome to a very wet and stormy Taipei as you'll see in the main Taiwan series coming out next month this storm caused us to drastically change our plans but we wouldn't be the budgeteers if we couldn't take something negative and turn it into a massive positive because we just discovered a budget travelers dream here in Taiwan and that my friends is the 7-eleven beer selection but I did get some Kirin you guys had caramigo packed with local craft beers international Pale Ales siders and even some stouts the convenience stores here have amazing selections and at very cheap prices tonight it's going to be packed full of fun and games and obviously beers so let's pick things up

on the streets of downtown Taipei as I introduce you to my friends which a few of you who've been longtime fans of the show will know one or two already oh my gosh is Damian from the Murano so you remember me salamati cool so let me introduce you to our friend who lives here he's Alex why don't you join us hey it's Alex uh what's going on with you what's going on why you here what's the situation I came here for a year to travel and ended up teaching ended up falling love with Taiwan and now I live here way from Canada we are gonna have a lovely evening in Taipei we're going to show you our first impressions of the city hang out with Alex and Damian and I have some fun and play some games so hopefully you'll enjoy this bite-size

and we'll give you a little taste into what to expect when you come to Taipei on a budget just this bite size is brought to you by skill share to find out how to get two months free access to their library of over 26,000 professional online classes make sure to stay to the end of this video okay so we've been in the 7-eleven for five minutes and we've already met two other people with the same idea as us this is a thing here in Taipei apparently Michael and I comprise from Germany and we obviously met these two nightmares earlier I'm Damian so what we thought we would do is have a

competition we thought we would have a game so we're going to be drinking beers around 7-elevens near the Taipei 101 which you can actually see in the distance there which looks amazing I'm really excited to see that up close but we've got to make it into a challenge there's got to be more than just drinking beers so we're going to have a competition in every 7-eleven when we go to and the loser has to buy the beers in the next round I'll play a song a famous song and you just shout out the name of the artist okay are you ready yes oh no she made a cover no you guys suck is Alicia killing you okay I'm gonna go easier than Alicia Keys

are you serious you don't know what this I'm surrounded by morons I have to go even easier than Fleetwood Mac Oh Lady Gaga was okay but he doesn't know Fleetwood Mac okay are you ready yes go shout out the answer no it was no doubt oh yes I'm going even easier now yes please Jesus Christ guys you got it congratulations you're insane let's you're into the buy no you go right first so you get the one point but it would later go get it since Alex came last of the beers were on him and we got

to share some great times with these two new cool backpackers we just met but not before we learned something interesting about Italian drinking culture guys it's not glass if tense we cannot touch there we just joke like we got a really intelligent that if you if we can touch the glasses but yes looking the chair side otherwise seven years bad silly and then it was off into the rain as we looked for the nearest convenience store to grab the next few beers and no doubt play another silly game and this being Taiwan it wasn't longer than a hip skip and a jump until we found refuge and cold beer at the nearest 7-eleven look at these guys Damien's gonna come up with the game for the second round and it's going to be me

new buddy against each other what's it going to be being it we have gone for a lovely Sapporo premium beer which is from Japan Sapporo Japan it's such a nice treat to be able to have nice premium is so cheap in 7-eleven and we've got some snacks we've got an interesting generation oh it's boiling hot it's super hot oh it's got the eggshell yes so drop it in there oh okay so you're either you're the local let her go okay oh that's how you do it a lien kind of stuff and what they are boiled in it's just it looks gnarly but it's just a hard-boiled egg that's been cooked in like tea and a nice and cinnamon and cumin lots of spices what do you think it tastes like a boiled egg it's not that particularly it's not like mind-blowing the spices aren't crazy

present it's a bit of a letdown okay so I got three questions for you mm-hmm mana loses right the beer how many countries colonize Taiwan like literally colonized that's another day that we're here just to visit this really colonized is this is a one question round or three questions this is the first part it's like best of three good luck sir may the best man win sister I reckon the British have probably been here like there's been everywhere else I reckon the Dutch turned up at some point I reckon the Spanish turned up at some point the Americans the Japanese and the Chinese I'm gonna say six people six countries see you can't country I'm gonna say the Japanese okay the Dutch Spanish really I'm gonna stay for apparently

Sony to which one's the Dutch and the Chinese the island was colonized by the Dutch in the 17th century followed by an influx of Han Chinese including Hakka immigrants from the Fujian and Guangdong areas of mainland China across the Taiwan Strait so it's only sister we didn't get a single point there sorry goes around to round 2 in Taiwan you ever you have a lot of mountains the highest mountain is called I know if I'm butchering the pronunciation but it's called Yu Sheng mount or Jade mountain right how high is this mountain one is the closest above cielab of sea level above ceiling then what the one who this made sense meters of course you got first what's a lot of metres for a

mountain I'm gonna say one thousand one top that's a long but it's like a kilometer in the air I'm saying 3874 that is a winner it is three thousand nine hundred fifty two years nice one sour face one point an A and now it comes to the final round the final question does it have anything to do with Taiwan it's just a fun game that we sometimes play in Belgium so you guys it's just like to say it was really simple you have to say the word Mexico as long as you can okay like Mexico dragged the oh and the one who stops first now as fun as this game was Damian forgot to hit the record button so we'll never get to see Alex's incredible performance of Mexico and in doing so win the tiebreaker

so even though I was the loser I didn't mind too much because and it gets them Kiran you guys had Karin before it's amazing it's from China no it's not it's from Japan isn't it this is amazing like this is a really cool part of Taiwanese culture that you can go to 7-eleven and stand outside with your buddies and drink and no one's gonna move you on you can goof around have some fun and as long as you tidy up your mess and you keep it down they don't mess with you sir cheers guys Cheers Charlie scroll and so with some fresh cans of beer and our stylish raincoats on we headed further into the taipei night but not before we grabbed some more food as drinking beers on just a nibble of a boiled egg wasn't gonna cut it

you know I always say it was really saying but does when we drink a beer and we haven't even yet we call these our Colossus voltar them which actually means a glass sandwich you will know so with some more food in our bellies and with the Taipei 101 building being lit up like some Star Wars starship stuck in a thick stormy alien atmosphere we grabbed some more beers and we got ready for the final game of the night all right we've done a little bit more walking and we've made our way to the bottom of the 101 tower and we bought more beer as you can see there buckskin German root beer so now it's time for the final rounds the last round and yours truly will be the host so for the first challenge I'm

going to have you guys say hello and as many languages as you can whoever can come up with the most languages wins the round playing for honor more than we are here so we're gonna separate the two I'm gonna take the camera I'm gonna go over there with Damien he's gonna wrap off as many as you can we - second one French module third one in Filipino or Messiah my own good luck - Salaam alaikum Arabic sixth one Bon dia Portuguese Spanish this is what is yes because the a Spanish then it's hard I thought Salah selamat pagi Indonesian or Malaysian Nihao Chinese konnichiwa Japanese how much how many of their at ten cents okay cool that's pretty good I knew once they are in Korean and you'll have a oh yeah Korean alright doc

gooden tuck in German okay Wow alright that's it oh yeah and in Swahili Jambo that's for you that's my 5:13 that's pretty good it's pretty good will paddy boy beat 13 or not will he do you want to know the number to beat or do you just go not hello Bonjour hola hello in which language German hello like good and good entire hello if you say hello I'm assuming I didn't interrupt you Sawadee Kap mingalaba me how they say hello in Japan okay that's okay g'day mate what about this but let's go that's an Eskimo kiss it's not a word does it go out and speak otherwise the lips freeze hello okay fine I think that's all of the languages there is how many does he have he's at seven and a half did you have well just so this is your final you

can't watch it one more wait I mean I don't know Russian come on one more we're gonna lose anyways but I don't know anymore all right the number for Damien is 13 Oh namaste haha damn it anyway he wins but that's not the end of the round that's just one point that's only this is the first round let's get our beer and do the second round well we've all listened to the radio you know how radio DJs are they start the song and then they start talking hello everybody I hope you having a great night the traffic the weather blah whatever both they're gonna talk about and then they end what they're saying just before the vocals in the song start I'm gonna play a song it's gonna be a Michael Jackson song okay do

you need to introduce the song you need to talk about something you need to be a proper radio DJ and you need to stop what you're saying so that it just meshes beautifully into the vocals of the Dossett Michael Jackson I'm gonna choose who is the smoothest who sounds most like a proper DJ so it's a little bit subjective and you have to take into account that Damien's first language is no English so you have to give him the benefit of the doubt are you ready I'm ready feeling good no okay ladies and gentlemen welcome to Taipei 101 tonight me Alex and Damien are having a few cans enjoying life enjoying our youth enjoying being healthy we've got some Michael Jackson who unfortunately passed away last year

enjoy your night wherever you are make sure you have a great time and go home with some tail make sure you buy a breakfast in the morning good effort I messed up okay Damien are you ready not but play doesn't matter here we go good evening ladies and gentlemen we are here at Taipei 101 it's a wet Midnight's and I hope you guys are ready because we're gonna get it wet tonight are you ready do you feel it put in your dancing shoes it's about time okay here's final verdict Patti you had a very lovely voice you put on this whole stage performance of the BBC Radio yeah you know I really felt like I was driving through London yeah that's what I was going for and you my friend got a face for radio

I just I like the shoe flare but like how can I hear the shoe flip so I'm gonna have to give it to paddy boy one there is a tiebreaker the tiebreaker okay third question is how many floors including the basement levels is the Taipei 101 since we're appropriately standing underneath it right now I live in a building with 12 floors I'm gonna say 247 floors that's a lot Wow I'm gonna say 162 it's just you guys just so who's the closest okay maybe not surprisingly the amount of floors that are above ground on the Taipei 101 are damn it well lose again do you boys feel like ee dumplings I'm starving it's been such a rainy night but we've had so much fun hammering yeah man this is like when we met those Germans and

the Spanish guys like this is a thing this is like a culture in taipei especially with the budget he reminded people like you don't need to go to all these fancy bars you can just go to 7-eleven on mini mart you can get good beers like craft beers and international premium beers for really cheap and get good food and have a good times and if it's raining if it's not raining it doesn't matter because you're in a foreign country having a great time it's legal it's varnished cheap I've read a really good night happening boys love lumen and we're gonna end the night with some delicious dumplings yes that is exactly what we did next because luckily for us alex has lived here long enough to find all of the best

late-night dumpling spots and he took us to his favorite joint we were starving and we completely over ordered as the menu was totally Chinese and we were just drooling at the smells of hot soup dumplings and sizzling ginger frying away I mean it's like 1 o'clock in the morning and this food is amazing normally we would have just gone back to the hostel and had a 7-eleven toaster but here we are in this piece drinking another Japanese craft bit life is good day man the best dish of the night was hands-down the Xiao long bao soft delicate pockets of delicious pork and chive meatballs surrounded by a boiling hot soup that can be a little bit hard to eat if you've never tried them before

and Dameon whoa he was struggling with them yeah first he's supposed to like treat it like a beautiful woman take around a day tell her how much she looks how lovely I love your hair I love what you've done with your hair oh my god is that a new shirt no wonder you guys are by a single oh thanks for watching this episode of bite size and the main series will be coming out very soon and we're really excited for it this is just like a little teaser it was raining and we didn't know what to do so we came out to film this video so we hope you enjoyed it and yeah safe travels and we'll see you very soon in another bite size we
