unless money we're doing all of this on less than a thousand dollars each so sit down and relax and join us on this epic journey around Sri Lanka okay Thais do the honors roll that intro series four was made possible thanks to Sri Lankan Airlines providing convenient and cheap connections to the island book your flights with Sri Lankan Airlines we're also brought to you by a wonder go the must-have app for any digital Nomad discover destinations workspaces accommodation and much more download it for free from the App Store today here at twin McCulley we had seen blue whales dolphins and many other local wildlife that call this stunning area home
we loved this town and its laid-back atmosphere and the fact that it was our first glimpse of a small backpacker town' however today was our first voyage into one of Sri Lanka's most popular tourist destinations of cigarette which is home to the world-famous Lions Rock so far we had been deep in the wilds of Sri Lanka but we were hopeful that coming to one of the most popular tourist towns we'd be met by lots more stunning nature cool attractions and hopefully meet some cool people along the way our journey to get there would be relatively simple so we decided to take a scenic route and divert through one of the national parks called minarets we really wanted to see wild elephants
and we have tried once before but failed but we were still hopeful we'd spot some the only issue we could see was the ever closing stall clouds rolling in we saw this beautiful shop which sells plan and Lina thought it would be a great idea to decorate our chapter with a nice yeah mom this time okay no cauliflower your local economy Travis ah it's a little bit rainy as we just bought both these plans with the jumpsuit because when I make so we're going to hang them up money Oh lovely little boy yeah friends yeah feels like a house I know I wasn't driving in the right so turns out the elephant's didn't need a shower and once again we didn't see elephants on the road but it was alright because we shortly arrived in Syria and
found a cozy little guest house just outside the main town in what seemed like our own private jungle we quickly unpacked and made our way back into the main town to see what all the hype was about but unfortunately we weren't really impressed by the first few things we saw we've been in Sri Lanka the real Sri Lanka since we got here really you know in the north in the countryside and we've had a really positive experience and then with the second we came to the first we see the first negative thing so the first thing I see is a restaurant called blaster rock which just made me laugh which is why hilarious and then we turned around and we saw an elephant and we said yeah but the other side is quite sad
because we saw that the elephant was tied up chained up yeah talk about there's like six tourists behind us feeding it we were really excited to see wild elephants in their natural habitats no natural chained-up a habitat contrast with what we wanted to do it has 1 litre of space to walk around this is not cool yeah please support the wild elephants of Sri Lanka by simply not paying to take pictures with them and especially don't pay to ride them yes we know it looks like a lot of fun but elephants are naturally wild and not domesticated and if you're like a lot of people out there you're unaware of the process of how these gorgeous animals are tamed we have information in the description down
below so you can take a look and read up on the process and you can make up your own mind if it's something you really want to do but Lena clearly made her feelings known while we walked further into town and it wasn't long until we found the entrance to the ancient city of Syria and lions rock itself and we wanted to end the day on a positive note however when we went inside to get a ticket there was an unexpected bump in the road thirty dollars soon we have an idea a lot of you guys on Instagram send us messages saying that there was another rock yeah in that direction or any other direction of introduce to they said go there it's like five dollars and you can see this rock and you don't have to pay lots of
money and we're like hmm maybe we should do that so we came up with an idea and then we want to do the same idea that we did have series three at the Taj Mahal yeah we're gonna split up and one of us is going gonna go inside and this time it's gonna be Patti he's allowed to go inside and experience what it's really like a serial yeah Black Rock yeah the lion's head rocker because we want to show you guys is it worth thirty dollars because if you come here yeah you might think the same as us like what thirty dollars we'll just go to that other cheap place but maybe it is worth it but I definitely don't think it's worth $90 all three of us sharing it so yeah thank you they're gonna let me go there tomorrow
because we're actually better than if he can see it's raining it's a bit miserable the way that's not very good so that's why we're gonna bail skip today and then see tomorrow what it's like and then merely now we'll just head out and check out yeah and then you can compare the experiences and see which one you want to do when you come here but for now let's just walk back into town and grab a beer with me so with the plan for the following day sorted we spend the rest of the day getting our berries and devouring a delicious local rice and curry buffet we had to do a little maintenance on the top hook as well since it was showing signs of some slight wear and tear from the 600 kilometers or so we had covered
since picking it up in a Colombo we also found out that the town of damballa just a stone's throw from here in Segura is home to an incredible cave temple that was really highly rated and super popular and so with two attractions to discover for the next day we decided just to get some rest and come up with a plan of attack so that we could counter this minor law of positivity into an awesome day of discovery and adventure so our guest house is right in between dambulla and syria so our plan of action for today is we're heading out right now to the temple in dambulla and then make our way back here for a couple hours so I can change because I can't track
unless you know nice leg kick so you got two activities either the cultural spiritual activity and then in the afternoon we've got the adventure tracking when traveling it's always really important to keep a positive outlook and to give places a second chance so this morning we were all feeling great and positive as we made our way to the temple even the police seemed really happy to see us thank you have a sticker this is us this is our vanity thank you very much thank you when we found the temple we parked up and made our way up the stone steps to the top entrance of the temple
oh my gosh due to my lengthy legs the cave temple is a world heritage site and dates back as early as the 1st century where prehistoric Sri Lankans use this as a sacred burial site today the cave complex is made up of five separate caves that vary in size and significance but each cave contains various statues of Buddha gods and deities as well as past Sri Lankan kings of age once our eyes adjusted we were really blown away by this truly special place and we happily soaked up the experience ancient history and unique atmosphere
did we enjoy the cake temple I really enjoyed it yeah absolutely 100% worth it the admission price special kind of temple in it yeah I live in Thailand I got a Buddhist temple all of the time and I've never seen a temple like that I've never seen that the details it was really nice to see them restoring it and I said to see the efforts and the painstaking amount of work that goes into it isn't a hidden gem though they're a lot of tourists here yeah even though take a chance and then come and visit this place so yes if you're coming to see Korea like most travelers do and you're unsure whether to make the trip over to the cave temple as you can see we hundred percent recommended even just a
giant rock where the temple is built inside of is magnificent and we spend a good hour or so just hanging around and enjoying the breathtaking views of the Sri Lankan countryside but as morning turned into afternoon it was time to make our way back towards lions rock where as planned we were going to split up from each other and explored his landmark from two different perspectives Lena and I are gonna head up to the viewpoint that you guys suggested to us which would be a lot cheaper and way less crowded and Patty would pay the price he $30 entrance fee and hopefully enjoy historical grounds by himself
we'll leave you behind over here with all the tourists I'd say but I think of you have fun at the secret place yeah I'll try to have fun at the expense of place and I meet you for a beer later wish you luck with its way oh nice we made it so we don't really know what to do we love budget ear suggestions keep sending those yes so we're gonna try to find it so that's what we're doing right now so let's go okay we just bought tickets this place is a lot cheaper than Sigiriya Rock it is 500 rupees per person to enter we're actually walking now through a temple so we had to remove our shoes and my legs exactly so this budgeteers tip turned out to be correct it is a lot cheaper my
subscriber yeah Metin mount lavinia colombo yeah these guys are the grade okay I have left Tizen late now finally oh the views gonna be amazing guys I can't wait to show you what an amazing place this is so far so good ancient stairways into ancient cities I'm having a lot of fun I feel like Indiana Jones just a really much fatter okay so now we're coming up to do something interesting hi do you need anything yes you get together it's actually really easy to sneak in here we actually saw a really easy way to do it but we were like wow there's definitely gonna be someone else to check your ticket and it was so if y'all gonna come and see here we're gonna get caught here we go this staircase circular staircase is this scary is it yes
be a brave man show me how it's done okay madam hi no photo in here every deal all right so you climb up these steps and then you come into here and they have some really interesting wall of graffiti and wall paintings but you're not allowed to film in there which is weird because it's the most interesting part of their walk so far yeah okay I'm going I'm not filming in their last video he wanted to check to make sure I hadn't you know filmed any of the artwork I mean I get it you know flash photography can wear away thousands of years of paint but taking a video you know I mean but that is a shame because it's the most interesting part of the walk so far and you can't film you nobody said anything about stairs
are you doing parkour yeah I could do any flips all right so check is really beautiful oh boy feels like you're in a Indiana Jones yeah and that sunset the lighting is perfect the small downside this track isn't a secret at all there are a lot of others to us here yeah we thought it was gonna be a lot less yeah I guess the secret's out of the bottle and also Lena can't keep up with me so Lena I'll see you at the top good tongue yeah really gotta be careful these wasps have you guys been stung by wasps guys look at this lion paws on both sides of the staircase leading out to the rock you don't have to go guys we're here the last step one two three thank you yeah I don't think there's anything
better than the sound of wind in a tree is that weird but that's one of my favorite things never and cold it had been a quick but calming climb up to this ancient piece of history and I spent some time enjoying the gorgeous 360 views and wondering what I should do as I was up here all by myself I'll tell you what I will do I'll just turn camera - it actually so cut this up because this is a really nice moment for me I'm on my own I'm on the top of lions rock with you and I wish you could see it from my eyes because it's just vast 360 views I'm gonna enjoy this beautiful moment wish she could be here with me come here yourselves come up here now if you've got the budget maybe go over
there where tizen leaner or maybe they're having a much better time than I am I don't know but this is awesome we made it guys as you can see this is not a secret spot and it is quite close it's all backpackers mostly quite surprised nobody shown the real side of this place yes nobody there like he's just alone and joke's on us ok so the joke wasn't completely on us because well it's stunning up there but do keep in mind that this one secret viewpoint is not very secret anymore Cheers Instagram however once you make your way away from the crowds it's so difficult not to be completely blown away by the endless landscapes and the view of sigiriya rock and I had actually brought up a little surprise for me and ties to enjoy over
this magical sunset together if you buddy there's the you buddy let's enjoy the final hours since it behind the closed it's time to leave saguru yeah we've had fun here and if you come into sri lanka i'm probably going to come here because it is very popular with lions rock and we hope that you enjoyed this video and you got to see what this area is like and how to do it on a budget and yeah it's been an interesting so it's been a bit expensive but that's expected when you come to it towards the area right you'll probably spend a little more money here but most of it we are on our
