Analysts debate whether the Cowboys made a mistake, questioning if they are better off without Parsons.

Did the Cowboys make a MISTAKE trading Micah Parsons?! | First Take. | Transcript:

Instead of paying Micah Parsons $46.5 million per year, the Cowboys traded him for two round one picks in Kenny Clark, they've now traded away a round one and two round two picks for Quinnon Williams and Joey Porter Jr. whom they will pay combined, assuming there's a JPJ extension, $65.3 million per year. Okay, so that puts it in a little bit of perspective. And I feel like we've had this conversation and we continue to have it every time there's a trade or someone new on the and the Cowboys defense comes along, but here we are again. Have the Cowboys proven they are better off without Michael Parson? Stephen A.

Hell no. That's not true. I mean, we all know that's factually incorrect. I mean, let's get that OUT THE WAY RIGHT NOW. I was depressed for the last hour. Thank you for bringing that up, for throwing me a nugget out there, Shay, because that makes me happy to address that subject. There's no truth to that whatsoever. Now, let's keep in mind, let's remind ourselves other than the obvious contract negotiation, squabble, and all of this other stuff. Ultimately, Jerry Jones justification for departing from Micah Parsons, you wanted to improve your overall defensive depth. You certainly wanted to prove your run defense, you understand? And you wanted some financial flexibility. Well, he has

accomplished one thing. Clearly financial flexibility because look at all the moves he's been able to make because he didn't pay MICAH PARSONS. FINE. BUT WHERE'S IT GOTTEN YOU? Your run defense still giving up at 180 yards per game. You understand what I'm saying? You still can't get to the quarterback. Oh, by the way, did y'all know how many sacks do the Dallas Cowboys have this season? How many sacks do they have? Two. By the way, that's worse than everybody. You understand what I'm saying? They ain't got no interceptions.

They only got two sacks. They ain't have a sack since week one against the New York Giants. This is what we're looking at. You can't get to the quarterback. You want to talk about the biggest problem with the Cowboys defense. You don't have no pressure applied to a poison quarterbacks. They sit back taking pictures calling DO. Yo man, I loved your analysis today on NFL Live. Yo, Swag Goo, you look great on Monday Night Countdown, my brother. Love y'all. OH, HERE'S THE PASS. THAT'S HOW MANY TIME people have to throw the football against THE DALLAS COWBOYS CUZ THEY CAN'T GET TO THE DAMN QUARTERBACK. OKAY.

NOW, MICAH PARETS, THAT brother went in the lineup, first five seasons in his NFL career, had at least 12 and a half sacks. Nobody has ever done that in NFL history, including the late great Reggie White, GOD REST HIS SOUL. NOBODY HAS DONE THAT. NOT LAWRENCE TAYLOR, NOT REGGIE WHITE, NOBODY. MICAH PARSONS DID THAT. NOT THAT HE COMPARES to those people, but Micah Parsons is that dude. So when you look at the Dallas Cowboys and you see their struggles on defense, it's not to say that having an abundance of bodies doesn't help. It's not to say that you just poo financial flexibility and depth. I get it. But in the end, when it comes to production, the reality of the situation is when

Micah Parsons was on that field, Dallas at least at times wre havoc. That is not what we have been seeing from a defense as of yet. So the answer to this question, have the Cowboys proven they are better off without Micah Parsons is an emphatic hell to the no. Go ahead, Marcus. The fact is that they haven't proven that they're better, but there's still time and I'm still holding out the moves that have been made. The moves that have been made, I tell you what, can at some point come to fruition. This was always going to be a long game situation. I don't like how Dallas defense has been playing, but I don't think Michael Parsons would have

made that much of a difference outside of hopefully getting a team in third down situations and you can pass rush. That's what we talked about when Michael Parsons was here. Guess what they were when he was here as well? Bad against the run. They still bad against the run. There's a lot of things that transpire after a trade that we have to wait and see if it's going to pay dividends. I still believe that this is one of those situations. Last year was awful. It was abysmal. When Quinnon came in, he showed some juice. He played well. Quinnon now Quinnon had a good game last week against the Baltimore Ravens before all of the things took place at the end of the game. This is not something that I'm

going to answer right now. There is time for the Dallas Cowboys defense with what they've gotten from the Michael Parsons trade to still pay dividends. Caleb DS is there. He's a young player. You just you just got Joy Porter Jr., you got Quinnon Williams. You got Kenny Clark. There's a lot of things that can happen as this season goes along that could change this tone. But I'm still holding out to see if it changes based on the guys that they got via trade of Michael Parsons. Yes, sir. DL, before you chime in, I would like to remind America that Marcus Spears aka Swagu is a highly, highly intelligent man. He's not just a football player and an outstanding analyst. Brilliant brother, very, very smart, which means

he understands that dare. Ain't nothing about that question that entailed, what are the Cowboys going to be? The word have meaning as of right now, have the Cowboys proven they are better? And this brother sitting up there talking about WHAT THEY GOING TO BE AS opposed to answering, did you have your listening ears on? I did. Do you have your listening ears on? There's still Didn't I say that they haven't proven that yet? Yes. I said that. You been spend a lot You spent a lot then.

You said you were Well, I had to give you why I feel that way. You said you were holding out hope uh that they would improve. A lot of homework today on this show. It ain't there yet. I'm holding out hope that I'll be a starting quarterback in the NFL one day, too. Get out of here, man. Get out of here, buddy. Sh. And I'm hoping that my hair I'm hoping that my hairline moves two feet forward or my head grows big enough where I can rock the ball. Look like my man Swag Goo. One of the two.

You can't pull off. That's all I'm hoping for. Pull that off. It ain't going to happen. I have a question. I Swag. I have a question. This a serious question. This is a serious question. Dan, did you not see Stephen A. Did you not see areas of improvement with that defense against Baltimore? I'm being I'm being really I'm being honest. I'm asking a football two plays when they stopped Eric Henry. Did you not see two plays when they stopped Eric Henry? Um I'm going to answer your question. So I think the things that it was more than that, but okay.

Uh Barham Baram uh the inside linebacker. I like Barham obviously Caleb playing at a high level. I think Caleb can kick back to safety a little bit more now with Porter Joey Porter Jr. coming in. Marcus, I'm not like this. No, Stephen A laid it out. This is not a better defensive unit without my proportions. Of course not. Strictly, you know, when you as an offensive person, me as an offensive person, when we sit down two, three, four years ago, we got to play the Cowboys, it's like, what are we going to do with this guy? Every single play. I don't think they have that person right now. Quinnon, I think, can be that person or has been that person in the past, and it's different edge, interior, all that stuff. But no, it's not a

better um defensive unit. Will it be TBD? To Marcus' point, without the jokes, like that's a very unknown thing. It will have to drastically improve though, Marcus. There'll have to be a drastic improvement over the next two months. That's the thing. May I ask a question? I have a Let me first. You go first. Can y'all You go first. Can somebody tell me what has happened to Quinnon Williams? That's a big boy defense. That's a big boy who can play. But to be so big and talented, he actually played damn near against Baltimore. What? Can somebody tell me? Mhm. He can answer it. Yeah. I It's a different system, Stephen. A like a three technique is very important for a guy like Quinnon Williams to be in attack mode upfield

game in and game out. That's where he reres the most havoc in this system with Christian Parker. They haven't allowed him to do that based on the technique that he's playing, but he got back to some of that against Baltimore. And there are plays on tape where you see old Quinnon. All right. Go ahead. I got you. So, the boy wonder that's the defensive coordinator, 34 year old boy wonder defensive coordinator which basically misusing Quinnon Williams for the most part and then they get it together a little bit last week. That's what you're saying. First couple games. Yep. That's why I said this time. I just want to make sure I was here. Go ahead. That's all. I just want to make sure I

was here. Go ahead, Dio. Go ahead, Swagule. I You had a question, Swag. Go ahead. Yeah. I think my two questions are, are we totally green grape over red grape? And are they also seedless? Um, I would say seeds are natural. Oh, wait a minute. It's a little season here, but this is a special kind of grape because I usually prefer I usually certain, you know, the darker grapes, but this is cotton candy grape. Oh, you went with that kid grape. Yeah, I figured, Steve, I was just about cotton candy grapes. This man, this man got manufactured grapes.

Got that color hue on them. I know you want to. That's what happened when you moved to Miami. Okay. And I've never seen him eat red grapes. He usually eats green grapes. And I didn't know they were always cotton candy. coming up on Thursday.
