I'm so delighted to say we're now joined by this man. When you walk Robertson follows it in and finishes beautifully. What a goal FOR LIVERPOOL. WHAT A WINNER. And Andy Robertson may well JUST HAVE WON THIS GAME FOR LIVERPOOL. Robbo's Robbo and I also thought he benefited from that today. He was a top performance. We all remember and I said this before, we all remember the clip where he started to press from left full back, ended up at the right wing and won the game.

Andy Robertson gets his moment. He's making way for Milos Kerkez. And now the crowd stands to the Scot to salute his brilliant career as Liverpool's left back. Oh, delighted to say joining us now is a man who won eight major trophies for Liverpool and he's Scotland's captain heading into a World Cup. Mr. Andy Robertson is joining us this morning. Good morning, Andy. How are you? Good morning, guys. How are we? Yeah. We're doing really well, Andy. The first thing I've got to say, I've got to get my cards out on the table immediately.

I've been trying to get on for years. Laura comes back for one day and you're on the show. This is a major custard pie for me, pal. I'm wiping the custard from my face as we speak this morning. How are you? I'm good. It's the jeweler that does it. But Ali, I don't agree with you. I'm up in Scotland now and it's absolutely scorching up here today. So, um Is it really? He's he's golfing then? No, I the weather's brilliant up here today. Let's see, same kind of sun as we're talking about. Ludicrous, isn't it? Um Andy, let's just start with like we [snorts] we were all speaking about this in the office this morning and we were like,

Andy Robertson and Liverpool and the memories that brings up and the incredible teams that you've been part of over those years and Jurgen Klopp, all that history. Oh my goodness, just sum up now that you're at the end of your Liverpool career, how it's been. How emotional has this been for you? Yeah, it's been a difficult couple of weeks, but it's I also try to enjoy every minute of it. Um I think people are fed up of seeing my face and seeing them interviews of me doing farewell stuff, so I'm glad this one's radio. Um but yeah, look, it's been an unbelievable 9-year journey.

My farewell on Sunday was, you know, really emotional for me and my family, but yeah, I suppose now my full focus is on Scotland. You know what life in a footballer is like and you just kind of move on and now I've got a, you know, a massive tournament coming up with your country and we've got a game tomorrow to prepare for that and you just kind of have to move on with the times. Andy, I'd like to talk to you about Scotland and we'll do that very, very shortly, but I only asked that again on the career finish at Liverpool because you've effectively shown what can be done all the way through your career, pal, if you don't mind me

singing your praises. I mean, from all the way at Queen's Park to the United all the way the whole thing the way the whole career [snorts] has been monitored and taken off. It's given everybody kind of young kids and young boys hope and then I was watching you with your farewell and even at the mural at Liverpool, which was a absolutely fantastic. I would I think it's not to get emotional, but when you look back and I know Well, this is not the end of your career, I get that, but you must look back with enormous pride at what's happened so far. Yeah, that's been the good thing, Ally, like I've been able to reflect on a lot of things the last couple of weeks cuz the time's allowed me to. Um and I thought it was the right

time to reflect. I don't think us footballers are very good at looking back at times. We always kind of look forward, so I think I've been able to look at my whole journey, you know, where I've came. I've always had to try and prove people wrong. And that will always continue, you know, as my career keeps on going. That's always been my attitude. There's always people to prove wrong and I think that's always stood me in good stead for whatever I've had to do, whether that's for my country, whether that's for, you know, Queen's Park, Dundee United, Hull or Liverpool. And then, yeah, I think when, you know, when certain things happen like I'm Euro and things like that, I think that's the

kind of, you know, kind of pinch yourself moments and you realize that, you know, you've done pretty good things and then, yeah, I'm very proud of my career so far and but hopefully there's still, you know, a lot more to achieve. Yeah, absolutely. Um, Andy, can I take you back to cuz I honestly think this is probably one of my favorite Liverpool sides ever. Mane, Salah, Firmino, Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, you guys that back four, you just picture yourself really, Robbo, Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Trent, um, and Alisson. It's It will forever be one of my favorite Liverpool sides, I think, just because there was so much character in it. But also, you guys were just so good. What

was it What was it like having that connection that you had with the with your team? Yeah, look, that was, you know, I think, you know, I've spoke about it, you know, quite a few times, but it's like that was the best That was the best time because, you know, we were all kind of climbing the mountain together as such, you know, we weren't None of us were the best player in the league. None of us were the best in our position. None of us were, you know, we certainly weren't the best team and I just think every day you just started seeing it slowly but surely piece all together. And then, um, and then we climbed to the very top, you know, obviously.

You know, Virgil won player of the season. Mo won player of the season. Jordan Henderson won player of the season. All these lads did. People were, you know, quoted as the best in their position and things like that. And I think that team just kept on growing and growing and, um, yeah, when you're winning Premier Leagues, when you're, you know, in Champions League finals and winning Champions League finals, it's it's a really special time and a special journey. And, um, yeah, [snorts] I think that was the time when you just seen us all having so much fun but there was such a determination within everyone's faces to just be the best they could every single day and I think that's why we got to where we got to.

I think Andy, one of the great things you touched on is you obviously time to reflect which is great but not a lot of time to reflect cuz we've got the World Cup to look forward to mate and uh I mean the night at Hampden was just absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely I mean Lyndon Dykes doesn't even get a mention for his tap and he doesn't even he doesn't even get a mention and Dykes is that game itself I mean we're lucky to be involved at Hampden on a few occasions but that game Andy was remarkable and obviously you just look you've got a great set of lads, a group great group of players. Stevie's done remarkably well getting the boys to the Euros but now the World Cup and it's been well documented mate. Not been there since 1980 France. You must be chomping

at the bit. Yeah, look we can't wait. You know, obviously after Sunday's game I think I got two days off and then we were into camp. We've got a game tomorrow so everything's been a bit quick but you can see the excitement Ali Joe. I mean even when you're walking up the streets and things like that the whole country's excited and we've been on some journey in terms of the Scotland journey it's been um it's been unbelievable. We've had ups, we've had downs but you know, that night against you know, that night against Denmark will go down in the history books I think of you know, one of the best games at Hampden and to be a part of that, to know how much it meant and what was at stake and then to go and to just like you said

Dykes doesn't even get a shout out for the goal that he scored but he's made a career out of that. [clears throat] You know, that's why he's just got his move to Rangers because of goals like that and you know, that was probably one of the most important but the other three were just unbelievable strikes and the fact that you're involved in any kind of game at the end and where can you put the ball in the back of the net. It's um it's I don't think the ending of that game will ever be topped for me in my career. That's for sure, but it was just such a special night and you know, to know what was at stake and for the lads to kind of produce that performance and that level of quality in terms of goals, it was uh

it just made everything more special and it's been a long 7 months waiting for this moment now, so um you know, hopefully you know, obviously we go over to America on Sunday and then the preparations really begin. Gosh. Um what about your boss, Steve Clarke? He's signed a contract now till 2013. You played under some brilliant managers. What's it like with Steve and how much does he earn that contract? Uh delighted for him. Well, I was so happy for him. Um you know, I think we've been able to create a special atmosphere in terms of within the squad and um all the lads are so close, but without him, it's not possible. And um

you know, he's really created such a special atmosphere and he's the one that deserves all the credit and um yeah, obviously contract situation, I think everyone's glad that um especially him. I think he can put it to bed now and not get asked a million questions about it. Um and before the World Cup, it gives us all a huge boost because, you know, there's obviously only one man that we want to lead us and want to lead us after the World Cup and that's him and to know that his, you know, future's sorted and um he's going to be the Scotland manager for the next 4 years is it's good for all of us and um yeah, I think he had a big smile on his face yesterday. We all know he doesn't smile too often, but yesterday he had a

big smile on his face. How much the mustache, Andy? I think he's delighted as well. I think you're right, mate. I think he thoroughly deserves it. What a job he's done. Listen, I'll send you, mate. That euro was absolutely tremendous. However, however, mate, you haven't made it on the back of your Scottish 20-pound note. McTominay's on the back of your 20-pound note. You know, we're not around for spending a lot of money, but to put him on the back of your 20-pound note, mate. What do you What's your views on It's because of his glow up, isn't it? That's what it is. The glow up. It's incredible, eh?

Yeah, I think he deserves to be on the favor, to be honest. But the fact that he got that displayed is good enough. Fair enough, son. But look, these things are just, you know, everyone's done a lot but McTominay, you know, on a 20 quid note, I'm sure that I'm sure people will be trying to get one, but I'm not sure I'll be one of them. Um Andy, the question on everyone's lips at the moment is because you've done this before with James Milner. It's actually about your favorite biscuit. That's the one that's really on everyone's lips, isn't it? We were just talking about that a minute ago. Did you actually say that your favorite biscuit was a Jammie Dodger?

You've not let your shin sell down an awful lot in your career, Andy, but a Jammie Dodger, come on. No, my favorite No, my favorite was a custard cream, always was. Um but I did like a Jammie Dodger when I was younger, but custard cream was always my number one. But do you take them apart? Do you take the custard cream apart? Do you eat the cream first and then eat biscuit separately? No, no, no. All in one. All in one all together. Just me. Andy, what about a Tunnock's teacake or a Tunnock's caramel log?

I know, but Ally, I'm down south. I can't get any of them. Ah, fair enough. Yeah. But you know, once I'm back up in Scotland, then it's you know, it's a no-brainer. Yeah. Do you dunk them as well? Ooh. See, I'm not a tea or coffee drinker. I know you two will be you know, a disgrace to that as well, but so I don't No, I don't drink hot drinks. I've got quite a simple method. No cold food and no hot drinks, so. That's enough. [clears throat] Yeah, I don't like cold food. I'm I'm I'm So, I just stick to that. Honestly, I never even drank coffee until I started on the breakfast show all those years ago because it was I needed something. I was absolutely

desperate for some energy that early in the morning. Um Andy, before we let you go, obviously, like we're not going to ask you about your future. The only thing that I'd I'd like to know is how emotional it's going to be wherever you go to potentially returning to Anfield for on the on the other side. Yeah, look, obviously, you know, my future's going to take care of itself. I think um you know, I think obviously this week is obviously been an emotional week, but it's important that now, you know, I kind of draw a line under Liverpool and, you know, probably more importantly Liverpool draw a line under me. Um you know, I think I won't be getting posted on their Instagram and that anywhere

near as much as I have been that week, that's for sure. Um but yeah, look, obviously, look, I know that I've got a massive summer coming up. I've got a massive World Cup coming up and that's my full focus um on Scotland and my future will take care of itself. I don't go into anything half-hearted. I don't go into I go into everything with absolute 100% and that's not going to change in my career and you know, wherever that will be sorted and um yeah, look, obviously look forward to just what's ahead of me in the next four weeks because, you know, represent your country at a World Cup is going to take

enough emotion and enough feelings and enough, you know, everything that goes along with it and I think I need to focus on that and then I'll definitely need a break. I'll definitely need a holiday to switch off and some family time and then whatever's next I'll go into with absolute 100% and try and be as successful as I can be. And I was just going to say to you, mate. I mean, the quick one on the World Cup. I mean, everybody's clearly I think personally we've got a great chance of qualifying. It's never been done before, mate. I mean, you had with the some really good teams. You got by the Kenny, you got by the Billy Bremner,

George Young, Denis Law. We've had some great teams, but we've never managed to get out the group. What an achievement it would be, lads, for the you for you boys to do it. And I honestly, I've got a great feeling about it, mate. Yeah, I appreciate that, Ally. That's the dream. That's the goal. Um you know, obviously to get to a World Cup is just a dream come true for all of us, but we also want to go over there and compete and then we want to go and try and make even more history. We know no Scotland team's ever been out of the group stage and that has to be our aim and that is our full aim and if we achieve that then you know, these lads will go down in history. You know, they're already into

the history books, but then, you know, we are one of one and you know, that has to be the motivation and once we get over there, that's exactly what we'll be working towards. Good on you, Paul. Andy, we're going to let you go. Thank you so much for spending so much time speaking with us on breakfast. You've made our morning. You've probably made our year, let's be honest. Andy, you've done us proud, Paul, and I know you'll continue to do that. Best of luck to you and the boys. I hope to see you over there.

Thank you so much, guys. Thank you. Speak to you later on. Aw, thank you. Andy Robertson there, a man who's won eight major trophies with Liverpool. Wherever he goes, they're going to be so lucky to have him and what a brilliant guy.
