have you ever wondered what it's like to road trip around kazakhstan with two complete strangers who you met in a yurt in kyrgyzstan yeah they say they're coming i know they're not coming they're just eating cookies i think we might die tonight the campsite is on the other side of the lake another road we won't make it down oh it's perfectly room temperature we can go now well that's exactly what i'm about to show you but first just give me two minutes to explain everything hey guys i'm lina and you probably know me as the one female of the trio that makes up the budgeteers so the last time you guys saw me in 2018 no you heard that right you don't have to rewind i did say 2018.

i was traveling through india with paddy and ties namaste welcome to india seriously after our goodbyes in varanasi i jumped on a bus across the border to nepal a country i had fallen in love with one year earlier while there i reacquainted myself with the culture i reabsorbed everything i love about nepal and i did some trekking in the annapurna region

i can feel the air getting thinner i then got on a plane to kyrgyzstan where i spent a month hitchhiking around the country i never thought i hitchhike a truck and listen to them and discovering all of the magic within its borders while in a town named caracol i met two travelers who i instantly clicked with this is tess and cass i sort of feel healthy though it gets a ginger beer we spent a few days together around the lake and they extended to me an invitation to join them on a 10-day road trip in kazakhstan a few weeks later we crossed the border into almaty where we discovered the town rented a car

prepared everything we needed and we've got rice and this is exactly where this story begins getting losers and just like that we put our first location into the gps an abandoned movie set in tamgahitas and we were ready to make our way down the open road into the unknown on our first day of adventure

run away to a movie set are you ready for this we're gonna drive into the [__] river the canyon room all right that's right we're shining it down but we have to completely off-road and it's just the sketchiest and looks like we can't go any further film sets all the way down there uh do you think

so the pin location wasn't the most successful start to our trip and koss was definitely not happy with us either but we knew exactly how to smooth things over with him just in time for our lunch plans that we knew he was excited for so we heard you when you said you didn't want ice cream but we don't care okay so cass wanted to stop here because you can go bird watching but then we found out that of almaty's [__] and pete goes into this lake so we're we're pretty much in a toilet so we're gonna have lunch by the lake and bird watch

where are the flamingos we can go now so it was safe to say that our first day on the road was definitely not going to plan but this only made us more determined to find the abandoned film set before sunset i think we found the film sir this film set was built in 2005 for a movie called nomads which unfortunately didn't do as well as they had hoped sukas was telling me that the kasak government invested millions into this film set and now it just sits here although it's abandoned we couldn't believe how everything was still there almost as if they were still in production

which made us wonder what it must have been like to film an entire movie here there's drought did you say there's a drought the trash my son everywhere the light touches is yours except there i lost that one in divorce your mom sucks hey

hmm i love you dad mom killed your dad i rebuild this whole city for you look what i needed daddy i've got to tell you something it's so funny dad no come on wake up oh my god myself this is amazing you guys are amazing thanks for letting me come yeah well we try to leave without you're quite persistent you're right after the car as we sat there making dinner and drinking beers we watched the sunset

over the river and just took in this perfect ending to our first day on the road you're driving i'll get in the back our only plan for the day was to find some nearby buddhist petroglyphs leaving the rest of the day for us to drive around and explore the kazakh countryside and attempt number 36 you should just call it c let's see just like all right so oh you guys gotta unlock me we got child proof locks right here all right so we're going to the petroglyphs

on our way there no we'll never make it and if we make it down we'll never make it up no so another road we won't make it down not gonna happen you might not see these petroglyphs we're not a land rover but you think you are a little card just like the day before the canyon roads were once again showing us who's boss and so we knew that our best bet to find these petroglyphs was to just abandon ship and search for them on foot fell over no she's in like a shock mode but she's only laughing

stand no i don't want a band-aid all i want is to see what we came to see there are flies everywhere tess has the right idea nailed it this is this is new look miss kazakhstan 2018 yeah i don't know if the camera's picking up all the flies but they're annoying

i've been to two music festivals now do you have any small some more blocks we camped right there last night and then it only took us two hours to get across up there because the water used to be very much higher we quickly realized that what the guard was telling us is that over the years the river had lost lots of water leaving most of the rock carvings completely inaccessible however we were able to walk around and explore the open-air sanctuary

and we even managed to see a couple of the petroglyphs up close as we continued our long drive we saw something that caught our attention this turquoise lake was too good to pass up so of course we stopped for a swim so our last spot for today before we find somewhere to sleep

there oh damn it i got the thing in the shot great news the flies from uh the flies from the petrus that followed us over here it's great i love it with the sun setting we made it to our next destination and you guys are just gonna have to tune in next week to see what happens next
