Liverpool have been building momentum ahead of the mouthwatering matchup with Arsenal who haven't won at Anfield in 14 years. Michael Carrick's under immense pressure as struggling Manchester United head to Stamford Bridge to tackle troubled Chelsea. And we take you to the heart of Hull where the Tigers have been earning their Premier League stripes. It's Ipsswitch next for Hull City. The battle at Stanford Bridge kicks off match week nine. Later, Coventry hosts Sunderland in a bottom of the table clash. Newcastle entertain Everton on Monday, while Sunday is the red letter day at Anfield.
One of English football's fiercest fixtures. Two giants, two juggernauts. The aristocrats of the English game. The cop is calling. Anfield is alive. Great effort by TZ. And the road runner is on his way. Alonso last man back releases it. pass of it. Bobby Firmino hattick Liverpool five. Dominic Sabline. Incredible free kick. Another chapter in this great and glorious rivalry. Welcome to Anfield. I always had really good times playing Arsenal home in away. I really admired their team.
Oh, that's beautiful again. Barnes stuck by Seaman and back in by McMovan. He's got two and Arsenal look. Everybody knows Anfield. It's a brilliant stadium to play at. The atmosphere is always brilliant. I always had a great tussle with them. It was always a very difficult game. I remember playing at Anfield and scoring and beating them. We've had some great results there. We've also had some bad losses there as well. So, it's always a big game Arsenal Liverpool home and away. So, this is a big game coming up from for Arsenal to try and get result.
I play at Anfield and I can just express myself and show everyone what I can do. For example, if we're losing or we're winning 2-0 or 2-1 and the game's tight and they I just want their trust like, oh yeah, real can also help us score a goal but also stop a goal as well. So, you're relying on a lot of younger, inexperienced players, you know, Muno, Vert, Barkler, Lu Kumas, Rioamoa. They're young players. They're great players and they got the potential to be excellent, but they're also inconsistent because of their age.
Barkler doesn't get there. It's in. He's a great player. He's incredibly talented. You see some of the things he does with the ball is excellent. He just needs to find a level of consistency now, which is eight out of 10 virtually every game. He's important for Liverpool. I think domestically or domestic cups, that's what they should aim for. So, I think if Liverpool finish in the top five and get in the Champions League for next year, I think they'll be absolutely thrilled to be honest. I think the goal is quite clear and I think everyone understands no what we are trying to build no try to hit more intense more vertical but also you want to control the games we've had some good results
but we know that we need to improve if we want to go where we want to go I think we need to be better and white black stays down flips IN ACROSS THE QUEUED UP FOR ARSENAL and it's headed home by Gabrielle on his 200th Premier League appearance. Arsenal starts the season's been pretty good. They've been competitive. You know, when you're champions, it's always a little bit harder because everybody wants to beat you a little bit more, but I think they'd be very happy with the start. They've got such a strong midfield area of different players who can play in there. Declan's always is so important for the team as well uh in that midfield, but he's been one of the best signings ever for Arsenal. World class.
It's all about opinions. I think he's he's a brilliant player. When I came here, I realized after a few months that it was the right place for this reason cuz mostly because of him because for sure at the end of this experience, I will be a better player. Very intense coach. um a perfectionist from what I've seen since I've been here. Um his attention to detail is second to none. Yeah, he's just a great person to have around the training ground and a great person to learn from. They know that he had a project in mind and he's achieved that. They're going to be very dominant this year as well. They must be huge favorites to win the league. And the fact that they were dominant last year and they're probably
going to be dominant this year, I says, you know, speaks volumes for Mel and his boys. I don't think Arsenal will lose, but I think it's a tricky game. There's no doubt about that. I think the first 15 minutes have got to start quickly. Arsenal, uh, if you can get that first goal, silence the crowd a little bit, uh, that's important. I think Liverpool could always hurt them because you know they'll be at Anfield. They'll they'll make chances. The crowd, the noise SUPPORTS LINE. OH, THAT'S AN INCREDIBLE free kick. You'll have to work hard like last year.
It was a moment of magic, wasn't it, from Dominic last year with the free kick that got them over the line. But Liverpool will always be competitive at Anfield because the crowd will make them. So, but Arsenal got a bigger squad than Liverpool, so I expect them to be strong. Manchester United's always bigger than any single individual. It's not about playing for me. It's about playing for this football club. If you don't run, you ain't going to win. He clearly retains a large element of support from the Manchester United support. I'm not entitled to be here. We're not entitled to win. In a week of unremitting Manunian misery, that is the cherries on top.
Will he be given an opportunity to put it right? Michael Carrick will still be in charge for this weekend's Premier League game against Chelsea. Manchester United are in turmoil at the moment. What do you think is going wrong for them? How much time you got? Do you know what? I don't think anybody saw this coming after the season that they had. Michael K took over and they were the best team in the Premier League from the time that he took over. You know, they had a pretty quiet summer in terms of recruitment and everybody else got better from the first game against whole city where they were second best
in every phase is kind of shown out throughout this whole season. And at this level, the most important thing is you got to find a way to get results. we don't win games and then the pressure builds up and there's a lot of talk. us as players we need to look at ourselves as well you know and the manager he's doing his work he's doing his best and we as players need to do better on the pitch thing is you do press conference people talk you know Martinez Bruno Fernandez ultimately time for talking you got to do it on the pitch they haven't done it obviously he's frustrated cuz you know the team's not playing well he's not playing as well as he did last season I think he's trying to provoke a
reaction but obviously it just added more fuel to the noise, you know, and I think he's he knew what he was doing. Bruno club need to look at where they're at. I think everybody's kind of living in these glory years and where Man United were the best, but it looks different now. They don't have that structure in place. So, how do you expect to compete to win? You look at Arsenal, the structure that they have, you know, everything in place and they continue to grow and get better. I think United, they got to start with the structure first. Obviously, you can keep chopping and changing the manager as much as you like, but look what they've been doing that since 2013, and they're still in a
similar position. So, I think talking about another manager is a waste of energy really until they have a clear structure and plan in place for the future. Hecker challenging. Was it over the line? Referee looks at his wrist and says yes, it was. Calagher goes down having been caught. He is going to his pocket and Palmer sees a second yellow and Cole Palmer is sent off. Detail goes round Laqua and shoots and seals the deal for Tottenham who will win at Stamford Bridge for only the second time in 36 years.
I can only judge him on his kind of body of work. And if you're going off that, he's he seems like a, you know, a manager who knows what he's doing. And I think only time will tell. People need time. He I don't think you could be a bad manager overnight. and him coming into this job. But hopefully he's had reassurances of where the club see the team going where Chabby sees where the team is going and hopefully we get to a common ground where them two have aligned where hopefully it comes back to that start winning trophies again. I don't really like using the term it's a project because you know people have been using that for a long time but we believe in ourselves. You know, the
players we've got are incredible. So, we know we will be good, but we're still we still are learning. We still are jelling together. But we do believe and I know that, you know, when it does click, we're going to be a really good team. Can they compete? Yeah. There's going to be moments through the season where fans are going to think they can compete because they're going to have some really good performances, but then also I feel you're going to get some really inconsistent performances and periods where you know the blame will be put on the manager and the blame will be put on the players. But I think we have to understand this is not the Chelsea of old.
You have to be on board with that. And hopefully Alonzo can limit the inconsistencies. But in terms of fighting for the Premier League, I'm on about really challenging for the title. I in my opinion, I don't see it this year. It's a massive game for both of them. Both of them need a win. I think Chelsea are still in a better position in the league, but I think third, fourth, that's probably their level. So, it's a huge game for both of them. And obviously at you know at the bridge I think Chelsea would expect to be favorites. Oh a heavy touch from Gay a mistake and Mcin has got it through to Jackson and he scores.
A STUNNING START for Aston Villa. It started ominously for Manchester City at Aston Villa last weekend and didn't get much better. Despite Erling Harland scoring his ninth top flight goal of the season, it wasn't enough to prevent his side losing their 100% record so far. But City host Brighton having already beaten them this week, knocking them out of the League Cup on Wednesday, and they remain top of the Premier League table above Arsenal on goal difference. I think we do the same as the other teams. you know, you want to stay mentally here focused, especially now we still have we still got like three games before national team break. So hopefully we can manage, you know, to get all the points to get the
national team done and then, you know, we can fully focus um uh with the club. A reality check for Brighton following a difficult week. Their League Cup exit at City came just days after the 2-nil Premier League defeat at Liverpool, leaving them five points off the top of the table. Despite a stellar start to the season which has seen them win five of their eight games, top four talk might be slightly quieter on the south coast this week, but Brighton haven't lost at the yet he had in the league since 2023. Matio Fernandez that hecka challenging. Was it over the line? Referee looks at his WRIST AND SAYS YES IT WAS. That was just the second time in 37 league visits that Spurs had won at Stamford Bridge. A
stormy night and an equally turbulent encounter with Tottenham Hotspur triumphing 2-0. An inspiring result after a tough start to the season. The only negative was James Madison limping off. The midfielder had just returned from a knee injury. Tottenham Hotspur face another capital clash this weekend when Crystal Palace come calling. there's still, you know, things we need to solve and we can still play better and everything like that and we can take more chances and keep the ball out of, you know, stop less chance, everything like that. We can be a little bit more a little bit better than that, but obviously it's it's better to win and we're on a better track and everything
like that, but there's still loads more to do and we can't get ahead of ourselves. Pierre S is feeling the heat at Curus Park. The Eagles are hovering above the bottom three, but let's not forget that in the first full season under Oliver Glasner, they didn't win until match week nine. Still, the home defeat to Newcastle was their fifth loss in eight league games. Victory over Spurs would help quieten the noise around SG as Palace aimed to make it three wins in a row at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Bournemouth fans have witnessed one of the best weeks in the club's history. After a tough start to life at the Vitality Stadium for new boss Marco Rosa, the 3-0 thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford gave them
back-to-back league wins just days after humbling European royalty AC Milan. LAWRENCE COME OUT AND COMMITTED HIMSELF. It is a magnificent finish from Evan Neielson. Wednesday's League Cup victory over Aston Villa has made it five wins in a row in all competitions, including three mightily impressive 3-0il wins in succession. We have to en enjoy this kind of moments and we have to maintain um our yeah our situation and the way we play, the way we stick together. We are not just a small club, we are real Premier League football club. Only Arsenal have a better defensive record than leads this season. The goalless draw at Sunderland keeps Daniel Farer's side seventh in the table, but they are
now winless in four games. Their fans will have fond memories of Bournemouth after a stoppage time equalizer last season took them to 40 points in their battle for survival. Ambitions are now firmly on a top 10 finish. Still to come, after a stumbling start, Aston Villa are hitting their stride as their rebuild takes shape. They host a Fulham side who are beginning to show what they're made of under Alvaro Araloa. Welcome to Hull in England's northeast where their fans are once again enjoying Premier League football. An extraordinary start for the newly promoted side. As a former Whole City captain, I was always proud to pull on the shirt.
There's definitely a buzz around the place after Whole City's fantastic start to the season. I'm here to meet a few fans and find out what their thoughts are on the season so far. It's a whole city back in the Premier League. How's the buzz and the feelood factor been around the city? It's so much better than 201617. There isn't the disconnect between the fans and the ownership. Everybody's rooting for us. We've got posters up in the city saying we are Premier League.
I'm not used to seeing so many old city shares everywhere. The feelood factor is great. You can't get a ticket. The buzz in the stadium is fantastic. I think it just helps feed into that mentality of how excited people are that we are back in the Premier League. We've come again with that sort of we're going to prove you all wrong mentality and the city's fully behind it. It's been a decent start. The backto-back home games now. What would you say is a good return from these two games? I'd say if we could at least get three points if not for a win and a draw that would do me.
I switch. It's two promoted teams. So, a bit like when we were away at Comry, let's do the same to Ipsswitch as we did to Comry and take the three points. my side that came up for the 1617 season. We had an excellent start. We beat the champions on opening day and seven points from the first four games. It's all looking rosy. Unfortunately, we succumb to relegation. Yeah. What is different about this group that gives you confidence that they can stay in this league and hopefully for years to come?
Yeah, like you say, it's very easy to go on bad runs in the Premier League, but I think we've got a manager and a squad of players who are really good at responding to bad runs of form. I think this season we've shown that sort of camaraderie that they have in the dressing room, the manager himself, I think is our biggest asset, how he can get the best out of the players that he's got at his disposal rather than making them fit into his system. He fits the system around what they're good at. And I think when you've got a manager that does that, you've got every chance. Ser is an unbelievable human being, unbelievable guy. How impressed have you been with him and what he's done for this football club?
Oh, so impressed. Like you just you couldn't ask for anyone better to do it. I mean, just the way he's brought the dressing room together, brought the team together, it's just amazing. And in terms of the style of football, he hasn't actually had to adapt too much. Yeah, I think it's very key. Commentary by contrast, we used to having the ball last season and they've had to adapt more than we did. We've just carried on doing exactly the same, playing without the ball and then trying to exploit set pieces or play teams on the break. If you look at the few goals we've conceded, teams have caught us out after say a corner of ours and they've broken quickly and we haven't had that solid midfield, five guys at the back defending, forcing teams to go wide.
A thing that's gone massive on social media, it's not new, but because of the teams that you have beaten is getting mowled by the Tigers. As a former player and somebody that used to see that in the stands, I did cringe, but I understood it. We've been doing it for since I was a kid. It's become viral now. It's part of who we are. You know it's cringe when you're doing it, but at the same time, you know it's going to wind the other fans up. It's one of them that you do and you feel daff doing it, but you know exactly what the aim is and you get that result every single time. It's so funny.
What position would you take right now if it were offered to you on the table here? I'll start with you, Jeff. 17th without a doubt. As long as we stay up, that would be brilliant. We're capable of so much more, but if you were offered it, you'd definitely take 17. It's important to remember that we had the highest ever finish and it was 16th and that was the FA Cup season. So 17th is excellent. You've got an owner that wants to back the team and wants the team to kick on. So, we're finally here at the MKM Stadium. We've been around the city.
We've met the fans. But now it's game time in Roan and the referee has given a penalty. Holly Mcernney. All city are in front. and turned AWAY BY GILES WATARA AND BRENFORD ARE LEVEL. Finally get your first Premier League goal for this club. How special did that feel? Yes, it's nice to get off the mark and hopefully I can start banging a few more in. We'll approach the switch game like we do in every game trying to take the points. They're a good team as well remember certainly them forward. So that'll be a big game for us. So after speaking to the players, slight disappointment not to take all three
points. However, a solid performance against Brenford to take into their next home game against Ipsswitch. If Nicholas Jackson's current run of form continues, his 65 million pound fee will seem like small change. His double against league leaders Manchester City to end their perfect winning run means he's netted seven times in 11 games in League and Cup. Jackson. What a response from Aston Villa. Villa have now won three of their last four league matches. Proof that manager Unai Emory's rebuild is working. They face a Fulham side who have found their feet under Alvaro Arboa who was already
under pressure after a windless start to his tenure. Crucial back-to-back wins against promoter sides Harland Coventry have moved Fulham out of the relegation zone. But three in a row might be a tall order. The cottages last won at Villa Park in 2014. Newcastle United went to Crystal Palace having lost three of their previous four league games. Head coach Matias Yeler made five changes to the team beaten by Aston Villa. And once they were ahead, confidence grew. Murphy deaditch. OH, IT'S 2-0 NOW. HARVEY BARNES. We knew we hadn't played our best and I think for the years I've been going to Soho Spot, it's never the most pretty game when you go there. It's always tough. You always have to fight and
battle, but we did that really well. We did the basics well and um and yeah, came out with a great result at the end of it. So, it was really pleasing in that sense. Everton, boyed by knocking Newcastle out of the League Cup in midweek, will hope this meeting offers a chance to improve their flagging top flight form. David Moyes's men will climb back above the Magpies with a third successive league victory at St. James's Park. They're unbeaten in their last three visits. Unbeaten on the road, sitting sixth and just four points off the top four.
Brenford came from behind to earn a point at Hull last weekend, meaning they've drawn all four of their fixtures away from home. But could this be the season that the Bees beat their best Premier League finish of ninth? Nottingham Forest's one all draw at Ipsswitch moved them out of the relegation zone temporarily, but it could have been so much better. An opportunity lost at Brenford last season. Eagle Jesus set Forest on their way to a 2-nil win. Head coach Oliver Glasner knows he needs results like that to convince the fans he's the right man for the job. Frank Lampard's Coventry City may have won a match more than their fellows in the bottom three, but like them, they've scored only six goals. The defeat to
Fulham was the Sky Blues sixth loss already this topflight campaign. This is Oscar Bob. That's footwork from him. Oh, he's done beautifully. THE MOMENT OF QUALITY TO SEPARATE the sides. Visiting Sunderland are rock bottom, so this is a real basement battle. The Black Cats 4-ame losing streak in the league ended with a goalless draw at home to Leads last weekend. The last time they played Coventry, Sunderland won. It was their championship playoff semi-final two seasons ago when the Black Cats were promoted. Can the Sky Blues get their revenge? So bottom club Sunderland will look to leaprog Coventry this weekend while
Manchester United are just a point clear of the relegation places. Manchester City host the high-flying seagulls whilst at Anfield the temperature goes up a notch or two as Liverpool host champions Arsenal. Not all can handle the pressure, the hostility, the noise suffocates. A 14-year curse haunts. This arena shows you no mercy. It feeds no fear. Disorientates, paralyzes, devours. But this time, Anfield welcomes a different monster. Hi there, I'm Rebecca Lo, studio host of the Premier League on USA Sports, NBC, and Peacock.
