Starting today, students in San Jacinto will receive a free meal as a summer program rolls out there. The goal is to fight food insecurities for students and their families. Inside San Jacinto High School, we found dozens of students eager to grab lunch during their summer session. I'm not going to lie, the lunch is pretty good sometimes. My favorite is honestly the spicy chicken sandwich. 13 sites across the city now open for the summer meals for kids program, thanks to state and federal funding, where students can grab breakfast and
lunch at no cost. we're a very high need district, um, and to know that even though school is out, we still have programs that offer food to our students and our community each and every, you know, Monday through Thursday, um, just to reduce some food insecurity for our families. The school district serves about 800 meals for breakfast and 1,500 lunches per day. They say the program has been expanding over the years. Um, she got a grilled cheese with some seasoned fries, a banana. And even beyond the campus to anyone 18 years or younger that's in need.
Yes, I live across the street. little bit helps. Yeah, it does help with the cost of food. I think it's watermelon, melon. For this junior and many more, she says this meal is a lifeline that will help redirect her attention from her stomach to her education. There's some people that are like kind of struggling. So, like the food really does help them. I honestly don't know how I would survive through the school if they didn't have like lunch and nutrition and stuff like that cuz I get hangry.
