Jello-filled SWIMMING POOL CAKE with marshmallow floaties | How to Cake It With Yolanda Gampp. | Transcript:

welcome back to how to cake it we are still in the middle of summer so I thought I would cake a swimming pool which I've done but if you recall I caked a kitty pool I'm going to cake an adult pool today the idea for this cake stemmed from Connie dming me an Instagram post of this beautiful AI pool she was like oh my God can you cake this however Something's Happened with this pool now you guys know me I always have to do things differently like I've already made a pool it was a kitty pool it had piping gel for water I wanted to use a different medium for water and I told myself it wouldn't work and I didn't listen to myself it was a very stressful cake so rather than building the cake and trying to dig out a perfect

rectangular opening I'm actually going to take my cakes level them layer them and then cut them into strips and then build that outer rectangle and then I started to piece together the strips and I realized I wasn't happy with the size so then I cut the strips in half so I had like smaller blocks and this way I could change direction and change the overall shape of the pool cake and then I started to piece together or puzzle together this pool now what was tricky is I needed to create a board that was the exact size of my pool so I started to piece together the cake and then realize my board was too big so I had to take it apart cut the board to the proper side what's going on see what I mean so the board I made before I started to

assemble my cake I put some marbley pink shelf liner on the bottom in the center knowing that when I filled the pool we'd see that as if it was the bottom of the pool I filled and stacked them with Italian raring buttercream I added some flavor in the center of the cake with my berry blue crumbs I had them left over from another cake and I thought it's very pool like when you think of like that blue water in the pool it's time to Crum coat this whole cake so I've got to Crum coat the outer sides the inner sides and the top chill then I iced the cake I wasn't planning to put fondant on the outside of this cake as you know it's summer hence why I'm making a pool it was so humid once again that the buttercream was sweaty and considering the way I

wanted to design the outside using a stencil I started to become really worried and I decided that I would work with fondom on this cake I haven't revealed to you what I'm planning to use as water and I feel like I have to reveal that now so drum roll instead of piping gel I'm going to use Jell-O it works now let me talk it works let's find out if it works anything that has moisture or water doesn't react well with fondant Jell-O I was worried about because Jell-O begins as liquid and then solidify so I decided to line the inside of the pool with gum paste because gumpaste is sturdier than fondant it hardens on the surface faster and I thought it's going to stand up to the

liquid Jello-O better than fondant okay I did the same with the outside of the pool except I used fondant I rolled out four strips and then I started to cover the side the same way that I panel any Square cake on the channel I basically did this to the outside of the pool with fondant for the water I purchased some blueberry flavor gelatin packets as well as some plain gelatin and that was for added stability and I want it to be a bit on the firmer side so it doesn't eat away at the gumpaste as much this is my thought process and I felt like the blue was too blue wasn't the right shade I bought one package of lime flavored gelatin and I decided to mix a bit of that in thinking it would change the hue

it went wrong it looked more like swamp you know what I mean this is already late at night orhan this is probably 8:00 at night so I got super stressed out it was like pool cake day off pool cake the next day I was flying to Atlanta I had to finish it and I had to get the pool water in I got it in Uber I went to the supermarket I pick up some more packs of blueberry no lime but now I'm looking for Clear gelatin and it's nowhere to be found I and then I end up back in the same aisle and I look like I get on my knees and I peer and sure enough there's a section with clear G gelatin but they were almost out so it was like right at the back and now I remake the gelatin and this time I'm

very careful about it I actually did it differently I made the prepackaged gelatin the blue with the hot water then the cold water and then the clear gelatin I boiled water on the stove softened the gelatin with some sugar and water poured that in and just cooked it a little till it melted and then I mixed the two together and now I had the blue I was looking for and because I added a lot more of the clear gelatin I knew it would be a firmer set for this is this going to go even more wrong yes it is here's the other scary thing that I didn't even think of until it was time I bring the cake back out I think to myself once I fill this cake I can't just pick it up and carry it to the

fridge the gelatin will slosh around so shuchi and I decided I'd fill the cake in the fridge chuchi moved the lighting she took the ladder she took the camera and then I carefully with a measuring cup scooped why am I acting it out for you I might as well have built a real pool at this point concrete liner all the things and then we carefully closed the fridge and now I was going to leave it for a whole day without watching it remember that part without watching it should we do like a cliffhanger and continue next week this is what happened we come in and I'm running to the fridge like my whole ride here I'm like oh my God I just put down my bags and run to the fridge and I was pleasantly

surprised because the gelatin set beautifully it was level there were no air bubbles I could see that marble paper at the bottom because you can see the bottom of the pool but I will say around the edge there was a perfect border of melted gum paste obviously while the gelatin was still liquid it started to eat away at the gumpaste and then eventually set I was more happy to see that liquid didn't marble into the Jell-O that's what I was afraid of and I was surprised because it takes a lot more for gumpaste to melt now I have to paint the stencil design around the outside of the cake and what I was going for was kind of like an a tiled Mediterranean esque feel okay so now I have to use royal icing with my stencil

hold the stencil up to the side of the cake use an offset spatula and then just gently ice the royal icing into the stencil and peel off the stencil now this is tricky because again it's humid so the Fawn and is sweating which is working to my advantage holding the stencil to the cake however after I iced the royal icing on and it was time to peel it off it was pulling on the fondant so finally I stencil all the way around the cake and then uh I pop the fridge back I pop the fridge back into the cake and now I have to add the sand so instead of like a tiled floor around the pool it's sand so I made my own little sanding sugar salad I blended some sanding sugar and then I used a

scoop and a spoon to carefully scoop it in now to that like little trough I've built essent essentially it's like a trough around the pool I'm going to send you the AI image that Connie sent me and you could put it in the video cuz it's a pool but it looks like half pool half Beach and now this is the like piea resistance is that what you say I ordered a bunch of drink umbrellas and you know how drink umbrellas tend to look one way not anymore you should see well you're going to see them there's one that looks like a watermelon and some that look like palm trees and there's all these bright colors some kind of look like a beach ball I wanted to put like little side tables beside

the umbrellas so I used a mold that I had which is actually to make Jewels but I filled the mold with lavender chocolate yellow chocolate and then like a lime green chocolate and popped them out and then every second umbrella I placed one of these like little tables I'm glad yeah and then I wanted to add floaties okay but again I have to be very careful because if I build the floaty or make the floaty out of something like gumpaste actually gets quite heavy so I used marshmallows I had some fancy swirly marshmallows but here's where it goes south there's more sauce we're at the pool oh we're at the pool as the cake sat out the gum paste on two corners of the cake was starting to leak on top of the pool

so the white like soup essentially was sort of oozing from two sides of the pool because as the cake sat out and became room temperature and at this point I'm really scared because if I dig into the gelatin at all it's over it needs to remain smooth but the tragedy really strikes when I cut this cake so it's done now right it's like an avalanche of melted gumpaste juice oh no orhan it just started pouring out like you can't miss it there was nothing I could do but here's the thing shuchu was saying that too they don't make one that doesn't I'm like chuchi who else is doing this silliness with cake but me this is not a real problem I made cakes for 177 years no one was like hey can you make me a

gelatin pool in the middle of the never happen there you have it this is our Fantasy Adult getaway pool cake I hope you've enjoyed it's the last pool cake you're ever going to see I will definitely not make a pool cake with actual water and I'll see you next week
