What's going on everybody? It just dumped, man. Raining cats and dogs. Let's go see what our scaly family's up to. Oh, yeah. So, we just had a major, major rainstorm here. Thunder, lightning, so frightening. As, you know, Freddie Mercury would say. But, here we are with our box turtles. They love this stuff, man. The box turtles, they wake up when it's time for rain. So, let's go ahead. Good time to throw some food out for them. I love these guys. These are our Mexican box turtles that are currently being housed here.
They are a rescue. And we're just kind of holding them until we can figure out where they're going to live for the rest of their lives. I hope some of them get to stay here because they are so much fun to keep around. We've had a few mortalities, as to be expected when you have certain animals that are that been illegally imported. They're going to arrive in bad shape. Dr. Mike looked over a few of them. We save the ones we can. So, luckily for me, I do have the help of Dr. Mike Gillen from PGA Animal Clinic. And what we're doing was just throwing some food out. Look at this. The winds were so strong, one of these canes of bamboo got knocked down. But, other than that, everyone else is
looking good, man. Looking pretty good over there at Frida's pond. We have some more critters coming there as well, which is going to be exciting. We've got a few Batagur borneoensis heading on over to the camp, which is a species that we already keep. And it's going to be a lot of fun to have a nice group of those guys. Look at this one. Where are you going? Let me throw these foods out. This is the box turtle diet from our friends at Fluker. Could not have helped these turtles without the help from Fluker. These guys are amazing. They make really great product. You can see it's got the pellets, got some dried
peas, it's got some mealworms. And look at these turtles. They love every bit of this food. They are just getting to work chowing down. This guy doesn't want to seem to go off the ledge. So, let's put some food on the ledge for this little gal. Where are you going to go? You're going to go up that ledge? What are you doing? Box turtles have good depth perception because they live on land as do box turtle box turtles and of course tortoises that live on land, they can negotiate that pretty good. And here we go. Look at this. This is what we're out here. This is why I'm here, friends. Let's see what we got here. Looks like we have an abscess. We have an ear on the box turtle here and I'm going to pull this one
and we're going to bring it to Dr. Mike so we can drain that abscess. This is why I'm doing this. I'm out here feeding, out here making sure the animals are okay, that they're healthy. Ear abscesses can be very common in box turtles. Um you know, these animals like I said were kind of in bad shape when they showed up here at the end of December, early January. And some of these elements will take that long just to start to develop. So, I'm going to go ahead, bring this animal over to holding area and we're going to go place it in there and then I'll bring it to Dr. Mike and he'll help me out.
He's graciously given his resources for free with these box turtles because he wants to do some work with them and help them out. He too is a very good partner. There's our black turds. We got some food for them. But let's continue to feed some of the food that we have for these box turtles so we can continue to assess them, make sure they're in good shape. Sophia's coming home to feed the rest of the animals. Everyone's coming out. There are the cherry head tortoises coming out in mass. They think they're getting fed, but Sophia will be home in a little bit.
It's actually a good time to feed some of the tortoises during a rainstorm because a lot of times after it rains these animals become more and more active because the humidity has gone up and that in turn makes it more comfortable for them. Look at that pretty male right there. That's a male. Really cool face on that guy. Look at that. Such cool turtles, man. I like them. All right, so I just spread food wherever I see a box turtle. Kind of just distribute it. We know that this is a hot spot so I put it all out in the front.
Put some over there for that one. Look at this. Turtles everywhere. They're going to start pouring out of here. Look, they start to see me. These guys are getting acclimated. It's so cute. They start to see me and they come on out looking for a bite. Look, I wonder if uh if this young lady or old gal will eat right out of hand. Look at this. Come here. You don't want it? Come eat out of my hand. Let's be friends. Don't be shy. Look at this. Come on. Aw, these are wild-caught individuals. Check this out.
How quickly things change. Good girl. There she goes. How cool. So, we're getting uh some trust, which is nice. You want to your animals to trust you. No matter how many you keep, you want them to be feeling at home and feeling secure. And luckily I had this large enclosure so that we can keep all these turtles. We've got over a hundred of them. And the ones with the tape, you see the tape right there? That's ones that Dr. Mike was working on and helping out. There we go. It's a feast, friends. There's one over there. Just keeping hope alive. I love it.
Keeping these guys happy and healthy. And I like I said, I couldn't do it without Fluker. They have been amazing partners for the camp, just keeping us rolling right along. All right. What do you know? All righty. Tell you what, I'm going to finish spreading these out and then we're going to go take a walk and see how everyone's doing. Yeah, we're here at Frieda's pond. She's looking good. She's right there. And she's coming on over to say hello to me. We've got more rain coming down, but it's just fun to walk around in the rain. You get all the plants are doing
well. Our Louisiana iris are blooming. We've got big beautiful alocasia. Of course, this pond built by Aquascape is tremendous. It's just awesome. Brian and the crew came down last year and really hooked it up. Let's wander over here, see how our giant tortoise are doing. Hey, hey. What are you doing, buddy? There is Phantom. Nice rains here. Hey, that's my boy. That's how Phantom likes to do it. He loves coming on over, getting over here and hanging out. And it's pretty fun to see this guy do his thing. So cool. Come on over here, buddy. This is what Phantom's all about. Now, remember, a few weeks ago he wasn't feeling so good. He wasn't moving much, but now you can see he's back to normal.
We've got some rain, so we know he's getting hydrated. And out from the woods, look who's coming. There's Socrates. So, I'm glad we noticed that things were not right with him and just well, one whole course of medications really helped him out and that's important. Again, guys, why I walk around all the time, why I always spend time with the animals is so I can see how they're behaving and if they're behaving normally. Now, normal, you'll have to assess. When I first got Phantom, he always loved getting neck scratches. He walked over to me. He's very used to people because he came from a zoological institution. And then I noticed last month he just wasn't acting normally. He wasn't coming over, he wasn't energetic, he was just lethargic,
then you know that you got a problem. But he's looking good now and of course Socrates, whenever she sees me she walks on over. It's just the way things are here. Let's go see what the Aldabra's are doing as we have this nice rainstorm. I love it. Oh, look at this guys. Another thing that's important to do is when you come out into the farm, you check Oh my gosh, they're so powerful. I'm going to have to put nail that back together, put a screw in there to keep that going. But uh they're strong animals. They can break through some of this fencing. In fact, they have at times. So I've got to make sure things are secure. What's up there, dude? That's Nostradamus enjoying the rain. There's a little mud wallow
beginning over there. He's raising up again acting normally. All right, so we're out here. We're assessing how the animals are feeling during the rainstorm and they're looking good. They're enjoying it. They don't get as bummed out as rain as we do, you know, some of us want to ride our bikes, some of us have outdoor weddings. Well, tortoises and reptiles in general don't have to worry about that stuff. You raising up too, Hank? Hank's a gal, but I'm going to keep the name Hank. Oh, Hank, what you doing? Oh, you're so cute, so pretty. There's Athena in the jungle in the giant tortoise forest looking good, very good, Athena.
Lovely, lovely. Oh, by the way, poison ivy, do not touch. That'll mess you up. All right, here is Boba and there looks to be Oh, that's Cersei. Hi, Cersei. We got her from San Pascual Florida Tortoise Farms and uh yeah, no food today. Probably won't feed these guys today, but all the others like some of the tropical species that deal with rain probably will. So, by the way, I removed the uh irrigation because I noticed the tortoises dug it up somehow. They dragged it over. So, what I'm going to do is I have to go to Home Depot, get a few more connectors, and I'm going to reroute it. It's going to bang over here. We're going to put a T, come over this way, and then this way, and then into the water, and then the
tortoises won't be able to get at it. You could see they would If they see something, they're like kids. They want to touch it. They want to nibble on it. They want to test it out. And so, uh yeah, it's a constant battle of wits. Who's smarter, the tortoises or me? Usually the tortoises win, but I catch on. I think like slower than a tortoise. Yeah, look at this. The radiated tortoises, they're out and about. Now, one of our viewers, a very nice viewer, sent me I don't know who it was, but they sent me some cuttlebone. So, I threw it out here, and you can see where it's been bit. Uh the tortoises love to nibble on cuttlebone. It's a good way to get calcium in there, and you just chuck it into the enclosure, and just leave it.
Ignore it. Don't deal with it. Just don't bother with it, and eventually the tortoises find it, they nibble on it, and it gets into their system, and it helps them develop strong bones and uh shells. Also, when they're developing eggs, that's another way. Look at this. See this cuttlebone's been nibbled down. They are doing it. I've often seen tortoises out here eating bones of some uh dead animals. They'll nibble on bones just to try and get some calcium in them. So, again, very important. Now, what? No, I thought I saw something under this agave, but I did not. But, the radiateds deal with the water no problem. They just kind of hang out. You can see water levels are up in the
ponds. Things are a little bit milky, a little bit stirred up, but again, very, very cool situation. I like to come walk out here because you never know what you're going to find during a rainstorm. Sometimes you find babies walking around. They hatch when the environmental factors are conducive for them moving around. So, high humidity's good for babies. They get out of the ground also because they know sometimes the ground can flood. Here we go. We have some big Indian spotted turtles here. I'm not seeing anything jumping right out at me, but every once in a while you'll see baby tortoises and baby turtles moving around during rain storms.
Um let's wander over here. Let's check the cherry heads cuz again, just got super wet. Sometimes I feel sticky. But uh okay. Let's just look. You want to walk around the perimeters and just kind of have a look. These guys are coming out. They uh like they like it when it rains. So you walk around the perimeters and you just kind of scan for any little boogers running around. That's how you know. They get to the perimeter and then they follow it along. So luckily we have this tortoise proofed even at the baby level.
Little babies can't get out. We have that small wire and then the close telephone poles, but I just kind of wander around, check everyone out. Hello. How do you do? You enjoying today's weather? Not a lot of sun for these guys, but it's okay. Not a big deal. All right. Well, nothing happening. Let's continue. Let's continue the mission. Ah. Let's do this. While we have everything thawed out, let's go see and feed some of our other critters.
I like doing this as well. Where are we? We're going into the reptile shed. Going to open this up. Oh, yeah. Oh, this is a party over here. Here's a party, everybody. Hi there. My black throats. Beautiful black throats. Let's just go ahead get them going. Oh, boom. Right away. No problem. I'm not going to make a big event of this, we're just going to get the chicks on Oh. Oh, no. Kind of went down there. I'm going to get slapped in the head. Dangerous positioning. Let's put this one here. Okay, very good.
Let me See that tail? That tail will mess you up. Okay. Put another one here. Just give them four. I don't know if that's going to work. Get it. There you go. Thank you. All right, let's see where the other is. Where is the other guy? Uh I'm going to get hit. I'm about to get hit. Am I going to get hit? Hey. Come over here. Hey. Come on. Come over here. Come on. One. Hey, you Wait a minute, you just totally went over the wrong thing.
Whoop, don't bite me. Hold on. I grabbed his foot while I was standing. Here's two. And then another. All right, these guys are fed. It's about getting chores done uh efficiently, okay? We're filming, we're getting the chores done. This is what a zookeeper does, friends. Uh kiddo. Now, who's next? Hmm. Oh, these box turtles, these Chinese box turtles are up and at them. These guys love it when it rains. Oh, hello there.
Hold on. There you go. There's a guy. There's a good looking dude. Oh, there's mama. She's coming out. We'll get to you in a moment. Woo, little jaw pops. Little jaw pops for the baby. Uh-oh. We should throw some pellets out for these two. Look at this. Come on. No. There you go. Nice gentle. There you Just takes three to fill them up. Let's go ahead and do this. Chuck some over there.
Chuck it over there. It'll flow down. Then we got chuck some up here. Excuse me. All right. There we go. I'm liking this. Let's get some more over here. That'll wake up all the box turtles for sure. You good, buddy? I think you're good. He's good. All right. See you later. Now, let's give Sonny and Cher a rat. They've been good. They're looking for some food. Oh, lots happening.
Hey, Sonny. Come here, big fella. Oh, yeah. Cher, come on, Cher. Look at that. No probs. Nice weight on him. Come on, Cher. Come Here you go, girl. Yes. Oh, good girl. Right down. No problem. You happy? I think you're happy. All the turtles are happy. They're eating. We got everybody doing good in here. Very, very exciting. Uh I do have some funny news. I found This is berserk. You guys know I used to have elongated tortoises. Well, I found recently an elongated tortoise in the yard. Okay, but here's the funny thing. I don't know where he is. I put
him in here. Um he's in here somewhere. But this tortoise definitely a few years old, and it's a new few years old. In other words, it's a hatchling that hatched on its own and wandered out here. So, I wonder if I can find it. I don't know where he is. He could be hiding anywhere at the moment. But let's see. All right, be careful of her. Don't want her to nibble on you. Uh oh, there he is. Look at this. is a Camp Canaan born and raised baby naturally in the ground. Look at how perfect it is.
Perfect. Right in the ground, living here on the property unnoticed until finally I saw him. Isn't it amazing? So now he lives in here. Now I've got to find a girl. How cool though? Very, very cool stuff, I think. Let's get on out. Still raining. Still a good day. Look at that. Lushness. The lushness is what I love. All the plants coming to life, you know. So exciting. Okay. Let's get Slinky fed, shall we?
Slinky! Hey, Slinks. Slinky! Mother is a nice relaxed radiated. Radiated relaxing. Slinky! Hmm. Anybody here see a monitor lizard? Where are you, buddy? Well, we know who's there. Give them some food while we're here. Slinky! Wake up, dude. Here he comes. Come on out here, man. We got to keep you moving, buddy. You're old, but you can move. Use it or lose it, brother. Use it or lose Look at this. Oh.
Use it or lose it. Get out of here, buddy. Get under over, whatever, however you got to do it. Come on. Get up here. Oh, I know you ain't what you used to be, but you still eat pretty darn good, don't you? You still eat pretty darn good, don't you, Slinks? Yes, you do. There you go, buddy. Everyone want to say hello to you, man. It's been a while. Hmm, well, there you go. There's Slinky, everybody. Good weight. Still active. Just got that arthritic arthritis in his hips, man.
It's no fun. No bueno. I feel you though, dude. I ain't as fast as I used to be. I'm faster. All right, man. I'll see you later. Don't go getting old on me, buddy. All right, neither will you. Don't get old, people. Now, getting old isn't just physical. It's mental. So, if you can stay young, do it. All right. Now, I'm going to get some chicks in here for this lovely lady.
Oh, I hear her already. You hear her? You got to get one on the uh on the line as it is because Where is she? There it is. Woo! Oops. My mistake. Sorry. That was bad work on my part. Bad going. Get back in there. Thank you. Then the rest place up here. Got some yolk coming out of these guys. Good girl. Look at her. She's looking really good. She is looking really, really good. There you go. Now you have all of them. Aw, there is our girl. There she is, Inky. All right, you going to go backwards? I ain't got time for that.
I ain't I just I don't got time to sit there and watch this lizard eat backwards, man. But, what I do got time for is some croc monitors. Well, let's go. Crocodilian monitors. That's croc monitor. All right. Things are coming back. This rain's definitely going to help. We got to mow the lawn again. Ooh, oh my boy. Once the uh water dissipates, evaporates, gets away, leaves, beats it. You know what I'm saying?
Let's get on in here with Lulu and Chase. Come on guys. Come on guys, these are my friends now. These are my friends. These are some friendly critters. We got friendly critters. Look at that. Ooh baby. Come on. Well, now that she's over there, let's keep her busy. Let's keep her busy over there. Up. I want you up. I want you up and away. Up. Up here. There you go. Away from her, will you? Just get away from this one. She'll steal your food.
She's got to not You'll drop that, I know you will. Go on a nice platform, good. Good job. She's blind in that eye, remember. So, we got to keep everything on the right side. You like when I shake it, little one? I love Lulu. What a gal. I love the croc monitors, guys. They are really spectacular lizards. There we go. There you go, girl. Here's another one. Keep you busy while he eats that rat, then I'll give him a few more of the chicks.
Oh boy, he See, he takes his sweet time. He takes his sweet time with that rodent. Look at how good she looks. And you guys saw last time she's allowing me to touch her. Oh god, look at this. This is a long way, baby. This is a long way. Yes, you are. That's a good girl. Let's try this out. Come on. Take it from daddy. There you go. Good girl. That's pretty sick. So, I can hand-feed them now. And I've been able to lift them up. And that just gives me more access to them, you know? It just gives me um more ability to interact and keep them safe. And if I had to do something like get them in a box for any kind of visit to the vet. Oh, don't do it backwards, man. Why?
Golly, he's not too bright. Meanwhile, Slinky's really interested in this guy. Really, really interested. We just want to get this guy fed. Oh my gosh. You used to be quicker. I don't know why you're so slow, but what are you going to do? Yep. So, she's got a nice heavy feed, which is good. And then, of course, Chase is doing his thing. But, I really want him to get finished because I've been just working with that female trying to get that food going. He's trying to figure out what end is uh the proper way to eat it. That's the butt.
Good grief. Slinky really wants to get over here and take that rat. Not going to happen, bub. A watched pot never boils. Here's trouble. How big he is. Look how big Slinky is. Climbing all up on there. What you doing? You see how powerful the water monitors are when they're full grown? And by the way, croc monitors are just pretty powerful as well. Look at these recurved claws. I mean, this is just spectacular animal. Totally designed for life in the trees. Those claws that are kind of like talents. And then you got this long tail for balance and grip. And those teeth [clears throat]
which basically are to get purchase on a prey item and not let them go and then they just shred it up. Meanwhile, what you doing? What you doing? Let's see how friendly we can be together. Let's see. You in a good mood? Look at that. This is just insane. She now knows. Look, I'm on her blind side, too. That is amazing. I love it, man. We saw the box turtle. Trust me, we're seeing the Is that a tail? Yep. We're seeing the croc monitors tuck There we go. That's what you needed to do. Now, don't
drop it cuz she'll get it. And I ain't got another one if you don't finish that one. So, you better eat this You know, look at how uh her colors are just incredible. Look at this. Look at these colors. Look at these colors on this girl. Look at that. Look at this, guys. What a job. Wow. I love you. Thank you, Lulu. It's an honor, man. I'm glad I can pick her up. We can you know, easily move her away without fear of getting bit. That's just crazy.
Keep looking over there for something while this maniac does his thing. You keep enjoying the view over here. Yes. What do you guys think of the croc monitors? Let me know in the comments. I love them. I think they're an amazing addition to the camp. We just want to keep her busy. Look at that. While he eats, you know. Cuz she is pretty aggro. She will try and steal his meal. We don't want that. Look at how she's going to get down. Look at this. Perfect example of how completely at home they are That's crazy.
Meanwhile, hurry it up, will you? That is one dirty rat. Maybe if I go stand in front of them she'll be less inclined. Let me empty this out while I'm in here. Let's empty this out. Come on. Yeah, don't go biting me now. Go over there. Thank you. Oh, baby. Oh, we're going to have to get the hose out here and spray that out. Okay. Hi. What's up, good looking? Yeah, she's still looking for some food. Yes, you are. What a tongue. Just another way to interact with her environment and see what's going on.
Another way of processing the world around her. Oh, look. Look at his tail. He's curling around me. Look at that. He's He's using me to hang on. That's awesome. Uh-oh, that's trouble. There you go. Now, I can't get in the middle of this. You guys got to make it happen. Look at this pain in the neck. There she goes. I'm going to have to get him some other food if she gets it. She's going to get a bit of it.
Oh, man. Oh, good. At least fight her off, will you? Fight her off. Get off there. Get back. Get back off there. Look at this. Get her off that. Get out of here. Hurry up, dude. It's so annoying. How slow are you? It's my god. I love that tail. I like it when you touch me with your tail. Hurry up. All he's got to do is get the head into his throat, and it's over. I guess these rats are so kind of uh what's the word? Like loose?
Gelatinous, maybe? Uh no. Negatory, good buddy. Negat- negatory. Negat- You can barely Look at that. This is bravery on my part. Oh, those claws hurt. Oh, that hurts. That hurt. Your claws are no joke, lady. They are no joke. Up. I'm getting really cavalier here. Holding onto her. I don't want her in there, but it might force him to get moving. You just had like all the chicks. Can you not steal his one rat? Oh, good. Thank you for listening. And she's back again. But he's almost got it.
He's almost got this situation under control. Ooh, hello. Oh, you're interested in the GoPro now, huh? So inquisitive. Another one of my favorite uh reasons for keeping lawn lizards. Very active. Interact with me. Interact with the uh environment. Allow me to be a part of that environment. She's onto the bucket, maybe. I don't know. Almost done, dude. Let's go. Desert teeth. Look at those teeth.
Man. Lots of work getting done. Lots of work Here we go. Ta-da! Let's go ahead and dial it back a little bit. I need two hands. Yeah, there we go. All right. Oh, look at her getting that tail. Come on, baby. It's almost all the way down. She's actually helping him. Give me that foot. Give me She is really allow I mean, she's really allowing me to kind of grab on her. There's a little curl tail. That means she's a little nervous. A little bit
I love living with dragons, man. It's the coolest. But you see how she just crowds him? This is how she is when she wants to breed, also. She actually is the one that initiates it. All right. I think he's going to manage this, finally. Very exciting. Painstaking. Infuriating. Here we go. Let's go, Bob. And that, my friends, took a while. Good grief, get her on down. We have to do something with this right here. We're going to cut that. Bring some wire snips. I'm going to cut that off. All right, man. Very good. We've done it. We fed them. We are enjoying the camp in the rain.
You could see we had a lot of it. But overall, things are good. Animals are happy. All right, friends, there you go. I am signing off. Don't forget to go to patreon.com/camp cannon and you will see more videos of me and the camp. And live chat with me every Thursday, 4:00 p.m. Eastern. All right, everybody, thanks so much for your continued support. I will see you again on an upcoming video. So long.
