605 right now in Connecticut and the race for governor. CBS projecting Democratic Governor Ned Lamont winning reelection earning him a third term beating out Republican Ryan Foazio. And for New York's third district, CBS News reporting likely Democratic with 87% of the vote in at this time. Tom Suis at 55% right now over his Republican challenger Mike Leetry. 606 right now and more now on the historic wins by Democrats across the country in a stunning rebuke of the president. Aziza Scheler here live to show us where the results stand this morning. Aziza, good morning Chris and Mary. This was a consequential midterm election.
Republicans were hoping to stave off the blue wave, but it did not happen. Democrats have flipped both chambers of Congress. Let's start with the House where Democrats needed just three seats to take control. And they didn't just clear that bar. They blew right on past it. One of the highly contested seats was New York's 17th district. I'm going to pull that up for you so that you can take a look at this district. The Hudson Valley is where we're talking about. Um we have a the Senate is still behind us, but we're going to show you specifically this region here um of the Hudson Valley. Maybe we can get that. This is live TV and we have a few difficulties with our system, but we'll still try to
pull that up for you with the Hudson Valley um and District 17 in particular. Now, this one, here we are, was a nailbiter to start with. Political newcomer Kate Connley taking on twoterm Republican Mike Lawler. And remember, Lawler flipped this seat red back in 2022. Now, we're four years later. Connley has flipped that right back with 61% of the vote and she's pulling in 52% right now with Lawler at 47.7. I want to also move over to Long Island where we are in district three. I'm going to highlight that district for you. Tom Suis, we mentioned this one as well. He's holding on to his seat. And we could keep going, but all majority of
New York City and this region is blue, but there is one notable exception, and that is in district 11 where you have Republican Nicole Maliotakis holding on, remaining the only Republican representing a New York City congressional district. We can't forget about New Jersey, though. In New Jersey, there was a wellwatched race, District 7. there a very competitive swing district. CBS News projects Democrat Rebecca Bennett has unseated incumbent Republican Tom Kaine by a wide margin. And now I want to take you over to the Senate. Um that's where the Democrats needed four seats to take control and they were expected to hold on to their current seats just as Senator Cy Booker did with an easy victory in New Jersey.
But in terms of flipping red states, they made inroads into some of the reddest territory in the country. We're talking about Kansas, Iowa, South Carolina, Ohio, all states where President Trump spent the last few weeks rallying Republican support, but that did not happen. Let's also focus on Texas. This was the most expensive non-presidential race in history. The Republicans poured hundreds of millions of dollars into this one. However, James Tarico defeated the Republican challenger, Ken Paxton. Texas has not elected a Democrat to the US Senate since 1988. That's 38 years. Another race that this entire country was watching, Michigan. Democrat Abdul Elsa defeating Republican Mike Rogers keeping the seat blue and making history as the
first Muslim elected to the United States Senate. Maine was also called this morning. Democrat Troy Jackson flipped that seat, beating Republican incumbent Susan Collins. 54% for Jackson, 46 for Collins, and that's with 86% of the vote already in. Now, a major race that we're still waiting on, Alaska, where Republican Dan Sullivan has a slight edge over Democrat Mary Pela. Um, as we can see, it's not by much. They're both at 48%, but it's the individual votes that we're looking at, and we're still waiting for that to come in. Alaska has ranked choice voting, so it could take days. They also have a lot of mailin ballots that they'll have to count. So, we'll be waiting on that. But this sweeping wave of blue comes as the
president's approval rating hit an all-time low of 36% with voters increasingly frustrated by affordability concerns and the war with Iran. Chris, Cam, Ziza, thank you. Back here in the city, all five of the proposals on the ballot passed. Mayor Mani releasing a statement saying New Yorkers voted for a government that moves as fast as they do. Here's a look at some of the results. The first makes it easier for small businesses to open outdoor dining, including shortening the application process. Another fasttracks street safety projects, including bike lanes. It will also unlock more than $200 million in revenue from the surplus, the city property. The final proposal was
about the city saving money. It sets a goal to hold at least 12% of the previous year's tax revenue in reserves, including a rainy day fund. Our election coverage is far from over. We will have results throughout the day. For a full list of results, you can visit our website, cbsnew york.com, and click voters decide.
