My friends, welcome to this episode of the Outdoor Gear Review. I hope you all are doing well. A few weeks ago, I was on the internet looking for products to test out this summer, and I came across a tent. I looked at it. It was interesting, and I kept on scrolling. Over the course of a week or two, that tent kept popping into my mind. And eventually, I decided to purchase it. And that, everyone, is what this episode is all about. What I received has actually shocked me. Granted, I have not set it up yet, but the storage size of this is very impressive. This is really, really compact. And at the same time, it is very, very lightweight. The tent that we're looking at today is from a company
called Asta Gear. I have never heard of this company before, but after digging through their products, I have to say I'm interested in testing out more, assuming that this tent here performs well. This company makes a lot of ultralight products that are also very inexpensive. With this tent here, it is under 3 lb, and it's a one-person tent. That, everyone, is impressive considering the price that I paid for it. And we'll talk more about that in just a moment. This is the one-person Elite tent from Asta Gear. And what initially caught my attention with this shelter is the fact that one, it's white, or at least it looks white in the pictures.
Two, the overall design of this tent, it's a half-dome. Half-dome tents are really uncommon, especially here in the United States. You simply do not see this design all that often. Next, what caught my attention is the fact that this tent uses really high-end materials, and at the same time, the price is right. At the same time, it is very lightweight. So, folks, why don't we go ahead? Let's take a look at this tent. Let's see what's included, and let's get it set up. As you can see here, I have two components. This is a ground sheet that is included with the tent. And folks, this is really lightweight. Then we have the tent itself. It comes in a burrito style storage bag. We have two compression straps. And here we have the tent itself.
We have poles, tent stakes, guy lines. And here we have the tent itself. Let's start by taking a look at the tent stakes and the guy lines. Let's see what's included with this tent here. We have four guy lines, and we have 12 tent stakes. Now, let's move over to the poles. Based upon my familiarity with this sort of design, there should be two poles here. And that indeed appears to be the case.
These poles are impressively lightweight. The sleeves here are very smooth. That's not always the case when it comes to tents like this. Having set up the tent, I can tell you all that the setup process is very, very easy. You can set this up in less than 2 minutes. I mean, all you have to do is basically insert the poles and that is it. To get the best pitch though, you may want to stake out the bottom to pull the materials taut. On the backside, stake out the fly so that you can pull the fly away from the inner. On the side here, you have a vent. We have the door here and we have another vent on this
side. Speaking of the door, smartly, you are able to stake this out and to pull this away from the inner, too. This is going to increase your airflow. Let's go ahead. Let's open this up. We do have a storm flap that goes over THE ZIPPER. NOW, CHECK THAT OUT, EVERYONE. LOOK at how big this doorway is. With the inner, this is fully adjustable so that you can pull it tight. And that, everyone, is a very smart feature. That means that if you're setting this up on uneven terrain, which is totally possible, even if you don't have the outside of the tent pitched the best, you can make the inside of the tent
taut. So again, that's very smart. With the door fully unzipped and the inner, too, you can see that getting into and out of this tent is going to be super, super simple. We do have a bathtub floor. And on the inside, we have one pocket. And we have one hook so you can hang a lantern, a headlamp, or whatever you want. Inside of the tent here, let's check on the measurements. It is 38 and 1/2 inches tall. It is 30 inches wide. This tent is roughly 78 inches long, which is 6 ft 4 inches. [snorts] So without a doubt, this is a good-size tent. It's not the widest, but it's certainly long enough for most people.
Not everyone, but most. This is a very lightweight tent, but at the same time it's also not that small. It's rather tall, rather long, and it's adequate as far as width goes. With the Asta Gear tent, this is a one-person, one-door, two-vented tent. It is available in one color and one color only. This white-gray sort of color. The pictures on Amazon make this tent look more white than it really is. This really does have sort of a moderate gray color to it. When it's stored, it is very compact. It's roughly 14 in long and it's roughly 4 in wide. Concerning the materials, you're looking at a 15 denier silicone-treated ripstop nylon that has a 5,000 mm hydrostatic head rating. And
that's true for the fly and also the floor. A 5,000 mm hydrostatic head rating, that is insanely high. I cannot wait to test that out to see whether or not that is true. Concerning the weight of this shelter here, this is going to impress you. This is a one-person tent that's quite big. And get this, it weighs less than 3 lb, falling into the ultralight category. This comes in at 2.9 lb on my scale. Now that you've heard that, I'm sure you're wondering, "What about the price? What does this cost?" I purchased this on Amazon for $150. Interestingly enough, the next day the price of this tent went up to $220.
Why was there a price increase? Who knows? I have no idea. When I purchased it, it did not state that it was on sale or anything like that. Something to keep in mind, everyone, is that at least when it comes to Amazon, I can't comment on other sites, but on Amazon, the price of a product can change day by day, sometimes hour by hour. And it's based upon a whole bunch of math, right? There's algorithms in play. Sometimes there's sales going on by the manufacturer, sometimes there's sales going on by Amazon itself. I'm sure demand plays a role as far as the pricing goes. There's all sorts of factors that dictate what the price is
when you go and look. Keep that in mind when it comes time for me to state what I paid for a product. I always state at the time of filming it cost blank, but do know that the price can change and it likely will. With that said, for $150, I am extremely impressed with this tent. For $220, I'm extremely impressed with this tent. This is a one-person tent that's rather large. It's certainly long and tall. It weighs less than 3 lb everyone, and it's less than $300. That blows my mind. The quality of this tent appears to be excellent. All of the stitch work is excellent, the seam tape, everything here looks really, really good. Now, of course, we have to test this out and that is coming up. I am
certainly curious about waterproofness. I'm curious about airflow and condensation. But as it stands right now, this tent looks incredible for the money. I'm not going to invest any more money in this company until I begin testing this out to see how good of a product this really is. But I can tell you all this, if this tent turns out to be waterproof, right? I'm going to purchase a handful of other products such as tents and sleeping bags because again, this company offers ultra-light products at crazy good prices. They do have a website. I didn't purchase from that. I purchased this from Amazon. Now that I mentioned that, I don't know if every product that they offer here in the US is on Amazon, but there does appear to be quite a bit.
As it stands right now, I'm shocked at how good this tent looks for the money. Especially for the $150 that I paid for this, this is mind-blowing. This is what I was talking about recently in a OneTigris Cosmo one-person preview. The outdoor industry needs products like this. Products that are lightweight, if not ultra-lightweight. Products that are of a high quality, and products that are not going to break your bank account, break your wallet, hurt your feelings they're so expensive. I think that's one of the biggest issues with the outdoor industry right now, and you could say the same for a lot of industries, a lot of products. The prices of everything has gotten so high that a lot of things just don't make sense, right? There's a
lot of really big companies out there. Take Big Agnes or Nemo. Well, they're charging six, seven hundred dollars for a tent, and that does not make sense for most people. Something like this makes a lot of sense, right? I paid 150 for this. Right now, it's $220. I'm not sure why the price changed, but again, that's just kind of how it goes. Even at $220 for a tent that weighs less than 3 lb, that is almost unbelievable. I am getting ahead of myself. We have to do some testing. We have to see whether or not this is waterproof. We have to see how good the air flow is, the ventilation, the condensation control, and so on. At least from my perspective here, looking at this tent, everything
looks really, really strong. We should get at least some air flow from underneath the fly. We do have the two vents, which in truth, vents do not do a whole lot when it comes to air flow with tents. Plain and simple, they're too small. If you're set up on top of a mountain in the perfect way where there's a breeze going into those vents, you will get some air inside of your tent. Otherwise, they're not going to do a whole lot. They do not really assist with air flow inside of the tent or with the releasing of moisture. You want vents, right? You want air flow. But again, in truth, they don't do a whole lot. Anyways, a lot of testing needs to be done with this tent, but as it stands
right now, I am beyond impressed. Those are my thoughts. What are yours? Comment down below. Again, finding these half-dome tents, at least here in the United States, tent designs like this are no longer common. And this is a good design. Tent designs like this offer a lot of strength, especially in windy conditions. At the same time, there's a huge benefit to this tent, and that's that you can set this up in the rain, and the inner will not get wet. That, for at least tents in the United States, is very uncommon. In other countries outside of the United States, fly first pitches, those sort of tents, they're very common. So, as it stands right now, everyone, I like what I'm seeing here. Share your thoughts down
below. If you found this episode helpful, please hit the thumbs up. I do appreciate it. And of course, this preview is agenda-free. I purchased this tent with my own money, so you don't have to. I'm going to test it out. I'll share with you the good and the bad, and then you can make up your own mind. This channel has never had a sponsor, and it never will. Until next time, everyone. Take care. Strength and honor. Bye for now.
