this is the iPhone 16 plus the larger variant of Apple bace models and what I've spent the last 2 years call lingay the perfect Workhorse sure I spend my time making video reviews today and they're mostly nerdy but I'm not sure if you've noticed that my content mostly focuses on just how useful a product is we live at a time when you can fold your razor or Z flip to use it as a camcorder or prop your pixel 9 Pro fold on its screen to use the other have to take a photo cuz yeah I can see all of you not worrying about placing your $1,800 phone carelessly over the concrete just for that perfect shot right you get where I'm going we're flooded with cool tricks the average person either doesn't care
about or will use once and forget it's there some of us just want a phone that works lasts all day and takes good photos and that's pretty much where I feel this plus model sits I'm h r with pocket now and let's dive into to our full review Apple has been on this interesting trend of uh giving people larger sizes for less money see in the past to get a large MacBook you could only buy the pro and a ton of people just wanted the larger screen the same thing happened with the iPad so now we have a 15-in MacBook Air and the 13-in iPad Air and uh This plus iPhone is pretty much where that approach all started probably one of my favorite changes this year is that this new design adds a ton of character
iPhones are most famous for their camera so why not make the Rings larger and more pronounced the base models are also preferred for their color so why not go for more of an aggressive palette when compared to the subtle teas that we had with the last two generations this new design also introduces two new buttons compared to last year with the action button on the left mimicking the customizable functionality that we saw on the iPhone 15 Pro and a new camera control button on the right which we'll discuss later the company's use of aluminum also makes this the lightest iPhone with a larger display which by the way has a newer version of ceramic Shield that makes it 50% tougher than
before also not sure if you saw the iix it videos but there are a ton of cool tricks on this phone to increase repairability which even includes easy battery removal procedures through an electrical current I know crazy now that update and durability is pretty much the only change I noticed over last year super redtin xdr which follows the trend of many other manufacturers as displays haven't really seen much change lately same 6.7 in diagonal with a dynamic Island on the top 460 pixels per in and 2,000 nits of peak brightness yes at this price it would be great to see some added refresh rate but the average consumer isn't really taking advantage of that and 60 Hertz has endurance
benefits if anything the one reason I do wish for high refresh rate is because I do miss the always on widgets and contextual notifications that are so useful on the Pro Models and everything else colors here continue to be some of the best in the industry for Content consumption and uh the speakers remain some of my favorite as well Apple plans to improve it over time with deeper integration into the iPhone's chipset most of the major changes for this phone also came on the inside as opposed to previous based models that stuck to a chip from a generation prior this phone was built from the ground up for Apple intelligence that means a brand new a18 chip which by the way is built on an
updated 3 Nom process it also means more RAM for those added on device AI tasks we also have the latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth a pretty sizable battery and about the only thing I wish is higher starting storage as the complexity of applications lately have 128 gigs already showing limitations I did try to hold this review as much as I could in order to test the final version of Apple intelligence since it is a major selling point but that final version is still not out at the time of this video we're still in beta stay tuned for my review on the smaller base model for more information on that iOS 18 has actually felt pretty good over the last couple of weeks for me the idea of being able to
place icons everywhere while welcome is actually something I don't even care about on Android for me it's been about the flexibility ility to not just use dark mode but for the icons to follow suit or for you to be able to change the color if you want to the new control center is also something I find a lot easier to use given its extra layers of customizability I will admit the new photos app took me a bit to get used to up until I realized it does two things really well one is uh helping you find photos with a text search and the other is simply grouping things in a smarter way in the past that wasn't really that intuitive maybe my favorite thing out of all this is scheduled summaries in
notifications not sure if this existed before but man this has helped me so much in being more productive now I schedule to only be bothered by email and other secondary messaging four times a day it's become a godsend in a time when applications compete for your attention in a way that goes beyond the functionality that you want them to do now over the last 3 weeks of using this phone once again it has reminded me of how much this plus model matters some say it's not for gamers because of the 60 HZ but then again the games that support 120 HZ are limited and if anything I want more endurance when playing a game since my phone is about so much more and that's what this phone gets right it lasts all day and then
some this phone has done a great job at remaining connected to Verizon's 5G Network as I tested in New York City and phone calls remain your typical iPhone which is to say pretty reliable the last set of major changes this phone got came with the camera Optics and its new control yes I do love having an extra button dedicated to photography and I do praise Apple for all the functionality baked into it I did switch the launch of the camera to a double press as I found myself pressing it by accident given its placement and yes at times I do wish I could switch a few things off that I never use still for a company that's really giving you flexibility this iPhone is all about that heck we even
have new photographic Styles and tones that you can make Auto itic or place after which are pretty granular when it comes to doing whatever you want with your photos and their aesthetic then there's the new set of Optics with a more powerful 48 megapix Fusion primary camera and the brighter 12 megapix Ultra wide that even brings autofocus for macro shots making this the most complete camera system I've ever tested on a base model I actually spent most of my time taking photos without the Styles or tones enabled since I noticed Apple's new color science is already adding a lot of character photos bring an extra punch of contrast while balancing highlights and shadows in a way that keeps the results pleasing
and that's regardless of which focal length you pick the improvements are even more noticeable in low light where this phone does a great job at freezing moments and has gotten faster at it I see a lot less grain than before and even if I saw some green lens flares as I pointed the camera it seems that the company is removing them in post which is great I' say this is the best performance I've seen from a base iPhone in tough scenarios period selfies and portraits then remain balanced regardless of the light and I love that you now get depth information even without portrait mode enabled which allows you to get a wider crop whenever you want that and then there's the fact that iPhones are just Kings of smartphone video it's crazy how little
by little I've chosen to leave my camera behind at certain events because even this plus iPhone can handle bright and dark extremes well thanks to its HDR capabilities and just the amount of data you get on the codec maybe my favorite feature is using this camera for selfie video and then taking the advantage of audio mix to remove unwanted noise from around me it is so good that it spared me the need to bring a separate microphone for selfie video even if yeah I would love for this camera to get at least a little wider for selfie video to conclude what can I say the iPhone 16 plus is not a phone for everyone but I have a feeling Apple doesn't see each iPhone as its own Silo it's really just a matter of choice you
now get two pro iPhones with the exact same features in different sizes and the same can be said about these base models for the last three generations you get to choose what works best for you if you care about promotion 120 HZ and always on display then just get the pro model I'm on the boat of people caring more about having a phone that will last all day and not needing to charge it at like 6:00 p.m. and that's where this phone shines the Workhorse that lets you get things done pretty much like every plus iPhone since the 7 which were all legendary at battery life it's like the Toyota of iPhones that just keeps on going and listen sure $ 8.99 is a bit steep for some of the features that are
missing but then again no Toyota is cheap and uh this phone is then this odd place where it really doesn't compete against anything it's the iPhone I recommended most last year but let's just say this year it's the second one I recommend most though more on that in a future video let me know if you agree with our assessment in the comments down below and while you're at it follow us on social media and subscribe to our channel for more videos like this one you can also follow me on my personal handles to see me love this iPhone more than ever please give this video a thumbs up if you like what you saw I'm he thanks so much for watching we'll see you on the next one
