15 Things to Do in BUENOS AIRES, Argentina When it Rains ☔. | Transcript:

So, you're visiting Buenocidis and it looks like it's going to rain a lot. Don't panic. This city is actually great for moody, gray days. In fact, some of my favorite experiences in Buenocidis have been on rainy days where I've had the opportunity to explore cafes, theaters, shopping galleries, museums, you name it. And in this video, I'm going to share 15 things you can do in Buenocidis if you happen to get a rainy day or two. So, let's get started. Number one, I'm going to suggest you go on a guided tour of Palasio Barolo. This building is 100 meters tall and it has a beautiful vantage point of Buenosidis and the National Congress. And the best way to experience this building is

through a guided tour because every architectural detail has a meaning. So, this building was inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy, and that means that the tour takes you conceptually through hell, purgatory, and then heaven as you move your way up through the building. So, an elevator gets you most of the way to the top, but then at the very end, there is a spiraling staircase, and you do have to climb eight different floors. I did this while I was pregnant, so don't worry. I think you can also manage, and it really is worth it for the views. So at top this building there is a glass lighthouse that offers 360 degree views of the city. I would say that is the highlight of visiting

Palasio Volo. And aside from that, once you are done with your guided visit, there's also a bar. It's called Salon 1923. The bar has an outdoor terrace. Again, more city views, and it's a really popular spot if you want to enjoy a cocktail at sunset. And as a heads up, tours run in English and Spanish, and they're about an hour and a half in length. Number two, visit the famous Badis Notes. These are historic bars and cafes that are scattered across Buenocidis, and they are recognized because of their cultural or architectural significance to the city. So, these are very beautiful historic spaces with high ceilings, marble

tables, wood counters, vintage mirrors. So, it's not just about going there and drinking coffee. you are going there for a bit of the porteno history and it's just a really nice place to linger on a rainy day. Some of my favorite bars include cafe toi petit cologne bar federal loes bidarees but there is a huge list of them across the city. You can find these baris noises in any neighborhood. My tip would be go with a book. Order yourself a cafe con leche, a plate of fakuras, these dectable pastries, and just enjoy. Soak in the ambiance. Number three, go to a tango and dinner show. You cannot come to Buenocidis and not go to a tango show.

The River Plate was the birthplace of tango, both on the Argentine and the Uruguayan side. And there are just countless shows that you can attend. And I think this is a great rainy day activity, especially if you're looking for something to do in the evening. And again, it's not just about the show. You can actually sign up for a tango lesson and then enjoy a meal. Usually, it's a three course meal as well as a show. And lots of different styles of shows. There is cabaret. You've also got shows that incorporate full caloric dancing. Some are a bit more Broadway style. So, there's something for all tastes and all budgets. Another great rainy day activity in Buenocidis is to tour the

National Congress. Now, in theory, they say that these tours run Monday to Friday at 12 noon and 5:00 p.m., but that is not the case because if Congress is in session, these tours get cancelled. So basically what I would suggest doing is going on the official Senado website and then you're going to scroll down to the schedule for the week and you're going to see if there are any listings for Avisita Giada of the Palasio Leis Lativo. If you see that there's a slot listed, show up for that time slot and show up at least 30 minutes early because they only take 30 people on a guided visit. And once they've hit their limit, that's it. they will turn you away and you've got to try again. So on this guided tour, you get

to visit the Senate. You get to see the Chamber of Deputies. You get to see a whole bunch of rooms and salons that are just really elaborate and ornate. So if you want to learn a little bit more about how Argentina's government works and visit a beautiful building, this is a great opportunity to do so. You do need to bring ID. So that means DNI if you are Argentine or from the meosur or a passport if you are a foreigner. You're going to have to go through security, scan your bags almost like airport security and you need identification to get in. Don't forget it at your hotel because I've seen plenty of people have to run back and get them. Um so yes, plan ahead. Another

wonderful rainy day activity in Buenocidis is to visit Teatro Colon or the Cologne Theater. Again, this is another architectural marvel in the heart of the city. It overlooks Aanida Nov Julio and it dates back to 1908. And going into the theater almost feels like you're walking through a grand palace. You've got the marble floors, the French stained glass, Venetian mosaics. No luxury was spared when they were building this theater and it really shows. So the auditorium is horseshoe shaped and it has 2,487 seats. It is very famous for its acoustics. So I would say book a guided visit of the theatric colon and then if you have enough time come back on another day to either see a ballet or

the orchestra or an opera. Another place you can visit on a rainy day in Buenocidis is Casar Rosada or the pink house. So this is the executive mansion and the office of the Argentine president and it is located at Plasa de Maddo. Now why is it pink? There are lots of different stories about this but one explanation I've read is that red and white symbolize the opposing 19th century political factions. So they decided, hey, we're going to mix red paint, white paint, make the building pink, and everybody will be happy. Now, as a heads up, the Pink House isn't always open for tours. You need to go on the official website and check the dates and what availability they have. At the moment, they're only booking school

groups. Check anyways because things are constantly changing. If for some reason the Pink House is closed for guided visits, another place you can visit is Mo de Laasa Rosada or the Pink House Museum. This building covers over 200 years of Argentine history. The setting of this museum is really cool because it is located underground in the former foundations of the city like dating back to the colonial days. So, it's a really cool environment and you can see all sorts of old vehicles and documents and valuables that belong to different Argentine presidents over the course of history. So, again, well worth it and very easy to do on a rainy day. Next up, if you get a rainy day in Buenocidis,

you can go visit all the grand palaces. So, you may have heard that Buenocidis is called the Paris of South America. And there's a reason why. It is because of these Bellapoke mansions and palaces that were built by Argentina's elite. Most of these buildings date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. And these wealthy families brought over European architects and European building materials and just built these lavish constructions. You can see them across the city, but they are especially concentrated in the neighborhood of Recoleta. Also, a lot of these constructions have been repurposed and now house museums. So, just to give you some examples, we have Palasio Diagos Corientes, which is the Waterworks

Museum. You have Palasio Pass, which is the National Arms Museum. Number eight, you can visit San Hon de Granados. This is one of BA's coolest hidden gems, and it is an underground time capsule. It is located in the neighborhood of Santelmo, and it was discovered in the 1980s during a mansion restoration. The man who bought this place was actually trying to renovate it and turn it into a restaurant. And as he began digging and trying to restore the place, he discovered these underground tunnels and a sistern and the early foundations of the city dating back to the colonial period. So this was an entirely private renovation and it is truly impressive what they have managed to do down there.

So again, you can visit as part of a guided tour and it's really cool to step back into the past and see the early foundations of the city. Well, as you know, I love food. I'm a bit of a foodie, so I think a cooking class is a great and fun way to spend a rainy day in Buenocidis. There are so many different cooking classes to choose from, but I'm going to mention one of the top rated ones, which is actually called Bachamama. And I think this is a really interesting class because you learn to make a lot of traditional Argentine dishes. So, of course, the menu is always changing, but traditionally you get to make chipa, which is this nice like cheesy starchy bread. You also learn to make empanadas.

You make umas and then crepes with dulce de leche. So, I think it's just a really fun way to spend a rainy day. You get to eat delicious food. They welcome you with a picada, which is kind of like a snacking board or a shakuderie spread. So, if you're a bit of a foodie like myself, that is another activity to consider. Number 10, shopping at Galleria Pacificico. This is one of the most beautiful shopping galleries in Buenocidis. So, I would say even if you don't enjoy shopping, just go to admire the architecture because it really is something to marvel at. And this is a historic arcade. It's done in the French boart style and it takes up an entire city block. It was built in 1889 and it

was originally planned as a department store though it later became a museum and then a mall in 1992. So the most iconic part of Galleria Pacificico is the painted dome or the painted ceiling. So you have these central dome frescos called love or the germination of the earth and it's all hand painted and it feels like you're more at a museum than a shopping center. So go check it out. We were there just a few weeks ago and because it was the holiday season, it was all decorated with like Christmas trees and things like that, but it is beautiful year round. Next, another rainy day activity. I'm going to suggest that you enjoy Buenocidis many art galleries, and there are loads to choose from. So, just to

name a few, you have Malba, which is focused on Latin American art from the 20th century to the present. That spot is located in Polarmo. Then you have Mamba which is all about modern art. That one is located in Santelmo. You can also choose to visit Makba which is all about contemporary art also located in Santelmo focusing on the 1980s onwards. You have Mo National Deas Artis in Recalleta. That's an Argentine collection plus a few European masters. And there's also the National Museum of Decorative Art set in a mansion with a focus on European and Oriental decorative arts. So, loads of options and I've only named a handful. If art galleries aren't your thing, you can go

museum hopping and there are lots of museums to choose from in Buenocidis. You have the Mo Historico National located in Santelmo. we visited a few years ago and we went specifically because my dad wanted to see San Martin's curved saber and yes we tracked it down. Another one to consider is Mo Casa Carlos Gardell. That's if you enjoy tango music and you want to learn about the most famous Argentine tango singer. You also have Mo de Armas dean. This is located inside Circulad. Again, this is another museum that I visited because my dad wanted to go there. And I would say this is like a hidden gem. It is amazing in there. Full of weapons from the

medieval period, like weapons that were brought over from Europe all the way to the present. You can see armor, swords, firearms, cannons, uniforms. So, it's a really cool spot. Don't miss it. Next up, if you need another rainy day activity, I'm going to suggest you go shopping for leather. Argentina is really well known for its leather goods. That means leather jackets, leather boots, leather handbags, leather belts, you name it. And one really good place to go shopping for leather is on Kaj Fida or Florida Street, which is a pedestrian street. I'm specifically suggesting this spot just because of the quantity of leather shops that you have along this street. Now, I'm putting this

down as a good rainy day activity, but I'm also telling you this is a pedestrian street and it's out in the open, but I'm suggesting it because there are lots of covered arcades, so you can actually stay out of the rain. Yes, you'll need an umbrella to cross the streets in a few short sections, but you'll be mostly undercover and like you'll be doing your shopping indoors. So, if you want to take some leather items back home with you, go leather shopping on a rainy day in Buenocidis. Moving on to our next activity, books. Books and more books at Aaneo Grand Splendid. So, this is a former theater that has been turned into a bookshop. In fact, it has been named one of the

world's most beautiful bookstores according to National Geographic and a whole bunch of other places. So, this used to be a theater. It opened up in 1919. And the cool thing is that it still looks like a theater. like you still have the balconies and the red velvet curtains and the painted frescos. So, you're going there not just to shop for books, but to enjoy the architectural details of this wonderful building. And if you need any book recommendations, I'm going to say go for an Argentine author. No one is more famous than Horge Luis Bourhees and his most famous work is Fixionis. And we've made it to number 15. Our final activity for a rainy day in Buenocidis. I'm going to suggest you

go to Aanita Corientes, a street that is lined with theaters and that you catch a play. Why not? So, this street is really something at nighttime. You've got neon signs, big billboards, lots of energy, even in bad weather. And there are so many theaters to choose from. Some of the more famous ones include Deatro, Lola Me, Brie, National, Astral, Metropolitan, Opera, and again, you've got all sorts of shows to choose from. You've got comedy, you've got dramas, standup, tango, musicals, they even have programming for children. Of course, it will be better if you speak a little bit of Spanish. I think that makes all the difference. But hey, you want to watch a show, you want to do something on a

rainy evening, pick a theater, see what's on, and just go out and have a good time. So, that is my list of 15 things to do in Buenocidis on a rainy day. So, now you know your trip is not ruined, even if there's a torrential downpour happening out there. Just grab your umbrella, head on out there, and enjoy one of these many indoor activities in Buenocidis. The city has so many gems and you are bound to have an amazing time regardless of the weather. Now, if you enjoyed this video, I invite you to give it a like, subscribe, and stay tuned for more videos from Argentina. See you next time.
