One Perfect Day in Adelaide Parkrun, Barossa Valley & Henley Beach Sunset. | Transcript:

Good morning, everybody. I hope that you're well. My name is Christian, and welcome to my channel, Backpacking Bananas. And welcome to my drive across Australia. If you're not up to speed, myself and my boyfriend, Ben, are completely relocating from Perth to Sydney, and we have decided to drive along the southern coast of Australia to get there over the course of about 3 weeks. We are now about 10 days into our road trip, and we have arrived in Adelaide! A city in South Australia, which I have never been to before, so I was particularly excited to come here. We're not spending loads and loads of time in Adelaide. We just have 3 nights, so that's two full days. And as we both

earn money by working remotely as well, we have had to schedule in a fair bit of digital nomad time. So, our entire first day in Adelaide yesterday was just spent in our hotel room catching up on work. But, very needed after 3 days on the Nullarbor with no Wi-Fi, no service, very limited power, and also very limited willpower as well. But, it is our second all day in Adelaide today, so we are going to explore. And I'm going to take you along with us. Though, right now, it's just me, because guess what? It's Saturday morning, and you know what that means? It's the park run! This is my porridge, which needs a bit of a stir. I started doing the park runs at the start of my summer glow up series a few months ago back in the UK, and I'm

now an addict. Every single Saturday morning, I look wherever I am in the world to see if there's a park run nearby. And lo and behold, Adelaide had a bunch. Ben does normally come along and support on my park runs, but this morning he deserved a lie-in. So, I've come to Logs Bay park run. I chose this one because it was one of the closest to our accommodation in town, but also just running along the beachfront and the esplanade, you know, it's just always going to be quite nice. All the park runs are quite nice, but this is where I fancied coming. I can see people arriving in their running gear, so I'm going to finish off my porridge and go outside and warm up.

Thank you. I was aiming for 32 minutes on the dot, because that was the amount of time that Garmin wanted me to do a zone two run today, but I ran just a little bit too fast. But, I would pretty good. My pace was 6:18, and in the end I had to run 5.1 km in order to hit 32 minutes. My average heart rate was 157, which was higher than I wanted to for zone two. Um, but it's hard to keep it down when you're doing park run, because it's just exciting. I really need to get back on running way more regularly, because I'm not happy with this. Okay, I have showered, I have dressed, and I really want to see the Adelaide CBD, to be honest. I don't know what it is about when I come explore a city, I just want to see the CBD, even if it may

not be exciting, or maybe it will be. So, we have parked just on the outskirts of the CBD in a Wilson's parking, and this is the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. I've kind of dotted a few landmarks on my Google Maps, and we're going to do maybe like an hour to an hour and a half walk around the city and just see the sights, to be honest. Oh my god, the bats! Can you see them? There's so many! From the Botanic Gardens, we followed the River Torrens down to Launders Boat Shed Cafe, which sits right on the water. It's small, historic, and such a cute spot for a quick

caffeine stop before wandering into the city. From there, we headed into Adelaide's political heart and walked past the Parliament of South Australia, very grand, very official, before ending up on Rundle Mall. And the mall's balls are impossible to ignore. We kept walking past Adelaide Town Hall, Victoria Square, and a few really cool murals and laneways that you could easily miss if you weren't paying attention. Adelaide has such a little creative side, there's art everywhere. And finishing off our walk back in the Botanic Gardens, where we started. So pretty. I really enjoyed this walk. I think Adelaide is one of those places that doesn't shout for attention, but once you're here, you really appreciate it.

I was really keen to come and visit the Barossa Valley whilst in the Adelaide area. If you don't know, it's a very famous wine region here in South Australia, and it's actually home to Jacob's Creek, very famous wine business. And I was tempted to go to the Jacob's Creek winery, but we said that we were only going to go to one, and we've actually chosen one called Keys or Kies. This was one that Ben found online. He said had very good reviews. So, we're just after a little bit of a tasting, and maybe a charcuterie board, or cheese, or both. That would be wonderful. They do complimentary wine tastings here, and he said that we could do them either inside or outside on this big barrel. And I said, "Absolutely,

let's go outside. It's a glorious day today." So, he said, "Fantastic. I will bring them out to you." Okay, this is my Shepherd Book white shiraz. So, this is a white wine, obviously, made out of a red wine grape. Essentially, the reason we're able to do that is we're in the Barossa Valley. We actually have the opposite problem to European wine in Australia. Where Europe right now are struggling to get enough sugars in their grapes to make alcohol, we are finding our sugar levels are getting way too high before verasion even happens, before we're even able to harvest the grapes. That's why Barossa is so famous for its big, heavy-bodied reds. We found that because we're getting sugars so

early, as soon as the verasion happened, we were already having enough sugar levels, so we were able to harvest as soon as the grapes began to redden. As a result, the skins haven't really had enough time to really implement those red colors into the flesh themselves. So, as soon as they redden, we harvest overnight. All the vintage team will be here at about 4:00 a.m. in the morning, ready to crush, and ready to press, separating those skins from the juice. And that's essentially how we're able to make a white shiraz. So, it's something a little bit unique. Uh, enjoy. I don't love it. But, it's nice. I like dry whites, and I like really sweet whites. But, this is somewhere in the middle. Very

interesting that it's a white shiraz, though. Food match, Port Lincoln tuna. We didn't manage to get to Port Lincoln, because I was having a bit of a breakdown on the last day of the Nullarbor, so we just bombed it to Adelaide and skipped Port Lincoln. It was on the original itinerary. One day, one day we'll get to Port Lincoln. Yeah, you like it? Oh, he likes the red wine. Ben is a big red wine drinker, and this is he said, by far their most popular, the Deerstalker Merlot.

I'm not so much a red wine drinker, but that is good. Oh, we've got the What was it called? The gourmet platter? This is the kind of thing I was really wanting when we were back in Esperance in Margaret River. I wanted meat and cheese, so this is very exciting. How much did we pay? $40? Uh Made the platter for the two of us, and it's pretty big. Ooh, we have an entire camembert. Stunning. We've been sitting and looking at this for the last 10 minutes, because we've just signed up to a house-sitting site, because we want to start house-sitting in Sydney. So, we just had a call with the lady who's going to be our first pet owner who we're going to be house-sitting for, which is very exciting. But, we just

like completely put our charcuterie on pause. All very nice. Very happy. What's grenadier? That's like the cheap white fish. What do the sausages look like? The crumb sausage? Is that like a battered sausage? Come on. Stunning. Chippy. On the beach at sunset. We've come to Henley Beach, which is apparently like the Cottesloe of Adelaide.

Um, it was such a lovely weather today, we knew that the sunset was going to be nice. Got to kind of escape the flies, though. Bloody hell. Thought we left the flies in the Nullarbor. The water is so calm. This is absolutely stunning. Fish supper on the beach. What do you like to do on your Saturday nights? Because we like to do our washing. We've acquired quite a lot since Esperance. And we're very grateful that some of these machines in this laundromat. So, to pay by card, it was $11.20

for us to do a big load. So, we've just stuck everything in there. No regard for colors at this point. We don't want to have to pay two times $11.20. Oh, 24 minutes. 24 minutes in the dryer. $6.20. So, $11.20 for washing and $6.20 for drying made a total of $17.40 for us to do our laundry at this laundromat. And that concludes our short time in Adelaide. As with every destination we've gone on this road trip, I know there is so much more we could have done, and I hope to return to Adelaide one day to do more exploring in the Barossa Valley, to Kangaroo Island. But the good thing is that it is very easy to fly directly here, which is why

we don't feel too bad leaving this city after just one exploration day. In the next episode, we will be leaving South Australia and entering Victoria via the famous Great Ocean Road. So, make sure you are subscribed to not miss what we get up to as we continue on this road trip relocating from Perth to Sydney. And it is now less than 3 months to go until I am temporarily leaving Australia for Austria for my annual group ski trip. We are actually running two trips in 2026, and I'd absolutely love to see you there. I always wanted to go on skiing holidays in the Alps, and I never had any friends to go with, which is exactly why I've created these group trips. We invite skiers and snowboarders of all

levels to join us. I've basically out this beautiful chalet with a private Finnish sauna and whirlpool. We have a private chef, and we are out on the gorgeous Zillertal slopes every day. We've also organized extra activities like night sledging and an ice disco. The spots are now filling up fast, so if you'd like to join us, you can secure your spot using the link in the description. Thank you guys so much for watching, and I will see you in the next video. Bye-bye.
