Not just the pros of the golfing world here at Royal Birkdale this week, but stars from plenty of other sports around here, and I found two of Leeds Rhinos finest here, Chris Hankinson, Tom Nicholson-Watton. Welcome along to the Open Zone. Now, let's go rugby league first. Top of the table Leeds Rhinos. Tom, how do you feel the season's been so far? It's been really good for us, you know, we kicked off the year as we plan to go on. You know, we're top of the table, four points clear at the minute with a game in hand on Sunday against Castleford. So, no, we know we've started really well and
crack on for the rest of the year. Yeah, a couple of days till Castleford. Chris, how you feeling for the game? Yeah, we're confident. We had a good day's training yesterday. We'll have a short day tomorrow to prepare for the game and just go through a few things and yeah, we're looking forward to it. Let's turn to golf. In the Leeds team, where are you two in the, you know, in the handicap, shall we say? Do you reckon? The up the upper echelons, do you think? Um, if we got a squad of non-golf players as well, I'd be in the upper, but out of the lads who play golf, I'd I'm around the middle, I'd say.
You're in the middle, okay. What handicap? 13.5 on my AG. Oh, you're you're taking it seriously. I checked this morning. Chris? If there's money involved, I'll go 16. Yeah, I've seen you hit a few shots already. I'm not playing you off 16. There's no way you played off you off 16. How often do you get to play at all? Um, well, obviously there's a lot of walking involved, so we try to stay off our feet. So, we'll we'll bogey when we can, but maybe once or twice a week at full Okay. No players got injured, have they, in the Leeds team playing golf?
Not playing golf, no. Okay. A lot of golfers have done it playing other sports, that's why I ask. So, okay, we're going to get you to take on the Justin Rose 98-yard challenge. So, in honor of Justin Rose from 1998, he holed out as an amateur, a 17-year-old amateur, uh, last hole, get fourth place silver medal, um, and we're going to get you to try and hole out like Justin did in the virtual world though. So, we're going to show you on Top Tracer. So, you're trying to hole it out on the simulator really, not in real life. So, that's the shot that Justin had just on the left hand side of 18. It was 2 ft of uphill and he also we've also put a 2% slope. So, the ball's below your feet slightly here as well. We thought of everything,
okay? And you're trying to hole it out in the virtual world, not there, okay? Who wants to go first? Tom. Oh, straight away. Chris, you come over here with me. I'll come to you. Okay. So, we'll see maybe a couple of goes each, we'll see. I'm just going to say Chris in practice, a scary individual. I don't want to play Chris for money. I'm saying that now. The camera's on my now. thoughts, Tom? Um I'm not really thinking. I'm just going to do. I love that. I love that as a technique. I think that's great. Yeah.
Good shot. Oh, Tom, that's good. Chris called that as a good shot, too. Oh, Tom, that might not be too bad. A little short, maybe. Let it run up. Oh, you spun that too much. Do you want one more go? I'll have another go. Yeah, let's have another go. That was a good strike. Tom, happy with that? Yeah, pretty pleased with that. I had a couple of practice shots as well. Went astray, but now pleased with that. A few practice shots we won't mention again. That was fine. Come on.
Ah, a bit Ah, get up. That was good. That was Yeah, not the worst strike, just left. That's actually better though, Tom. You know what? At 17 ft, that's not a bad marker. Should we have one more? Let's go three each, shall we? Come on, let's go three each. I just want to give him a chance. I want to give him a chance here. This is only on your proper Ah! OH, TOM. YES. NOT THE PRESSURE got to him on the last shot. Right, Chris, step on it. What was that? 17 ft 3 in?
17 ft, no pressure. Yeah, that's okay. How Let me ask both of you, how competitive are you at golf? Um depends how I'm playing. It depends how I'm playing. If I'm hit If I'm playing well, very competitive. Really? Okay. It depends who I'm playing. Anyone. And what about you? Competitiveness, where are you on 1 to 10? 10 being the most competitive. I'm going for a good 9.9. Oh, you are really? Unless I have to lose. Um okay, thought here, Chris. Don't look at these cameras.
Yeah, don't Yeah, leave the cameras for the rest of the week. No, yeah. Are you a bit like Tom, you're not thinking of anything here? No, just want to get the ball in between the feet and I can't I love Chris, I love that. Okay. Get up. It's a great line, Chris. It's got to get up. I think I might be a bit short. Right on line, Chris. Okay. Tom, you're still winning. 17 ft 3 still winning. Yeah, a little Do you see the fist pump there? Do you see the fist pump he just gave there?
Oh, Chris. The pressure is just getting to you a bit here. Come on, one left. Third time's a charm. Come on. Third time's a charm. There you go. You should see the grin on Tom's face here. One sec, Chris. We're just going to let our simulator reset. Coffee on this one as well. Last one. Last opportunity, Chris. This for a sleeve of balls. Oh, get up. And that's really good, Chris. Oh, it's going to be close. This is going to be really close.
Oh, 35 ft. Look at Tom, come back up. Are you kidding me? Um boys, that was really good fun. Tom, you got the spoils are yours. How long are you going to mention this for to Chris? The rest of the season? Yeah, I'll go on for the rest of the season. And anytime get any stick off anyone, I'm just saying I'll be beating him golf, beating him golf. Chris, unlucky. What happened there? No, I bowled it on the back stage, I know. Practice you were very good. Yeah. I had high hopes.
I wanted to take a little bit off it from before, but no, it's I'm still laughing. Um boys, thanks so much for coming to the open day. Good luck rest of season. Good luck against Castleford on Sunday, too. Really appreciate and enjoy the rest of the day here. Thank you. Thanks, guys. Cheers. Take care. Oh, Chris. Can't believe
