the fact that competitors are so focused on early launches could only mean one thing it might just be that apple is prepping for something significant with the iPhone we've seen copertino stuck on iterative updates for years and then this dramatic push to pro video and photo capabilities with the Pro Models but this has been the one moment where I'm actually going to praise AI here whether you use it care about it or don't AI has single-handedly Force companies to stop skimping out on Essentials like how much RAM you get on your phone to just name one element of the spec sheet it's the reason why any of you using the base iPhone 15 units won't get apple intelligence love as the pro variants will so yeah now that we're
about what a month away from Apple's next iPhones it does beg to wonder exactly what will change from the company's next batch of phones it's time for another follow-up Deep dive I'm H with pocket now and let's talk iPhone 16 series let's begin with the hardware since that's really the determining driver of a lot of what makes an iPhone popular as we've discussed in previous deep Dives this year the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are expected to have bigger screens and then the iPhone 16 Pro might have a 6.27 in screen and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will grow to 6.86 in for comparison last year's iPhone 15 Pro was 6.1 in diagonal and the pro Max was 6.7 in if true these new sizes would be the largest screens
on an iPhone ever but what's new is the reports that apple is considering to use micr lens technology for the OLED displays of these 16 models uh though we're not exactly sure if it's only for the pro variant or also for the bass models this technology could help keep or even increase the screen brightness while potentially using less power micr lens arrays mlas work by having billions of tiny lenses inside the display these lenses reduce internal Reflections by redirecting light that would normally bounce back inside the panel towards the screen this can either make the screen appear brighter without using more power or maintain the same brightness while using less power compared to regular
olet panels Apple has spent the last couple of generations offering the same display quality for both the pro and the bass models but we do know these olets come from different manufacturers so we'll see how it goes or which company is providing this is it LG or whomever one of the biggest changes that's stood out in a ton of the leaks and even videos of dummy units is the base models of the iPhone 16 having this vertical camera layout with a pill shape cutout moving from the diagonal shape that we currently have the new bump will have two separate rings for the white and Ultra wide cameras this uh vertical design is expected to allow spatial video recording from the bass models
which is currently exclusive to the pros it's also reported that all iPhone 16 models will have new capture button for taking photos and videos and yes this continues to be a major push to differentiate iPhones from competitors for media creation a new thing though is that we've learned that apparently this button will let you zoom in and out by swiping left or right on it focus on a subject with a light press or start recording with a hard press the capture button will be on the bottom right of the iPhone 16 and it'll replace the millimet wave antenna on the US models which will be moved to the left side below the volume and action buttons now uh let's talk about the iPhone 16 Pro
Models which are also expected to bring some major changes one of them is to finally get more pixel density on at least the ultrawide camera now jumping to a 48 megapixel sensor this upgrade should help the camera capture more light through pixel bending and low light scenarios which yeah are currently not ideal it's also means that the iPhone 16 Pro Models uh should be able to take 48 megapixel Pro Raw photos in Ultra wide mode as well though uh we wonder if they'll also include the 24 megapixel push that we currently have from the primary Additionally the iPhone 16 Pro Max is rumored to have a bigger main camera sensor with a custom 48 megapixel Sony AMX 903 both models are
also expected to have 5x optical zoom a feature currently only available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max Apple's tetr prism lens system with its folded design fits inside the smartphone and allows for up to 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom in comparison to the current smaller iPhone 15 Pro which is limited to 3x optical zoom similar to the 14 pro and pro Max room last year or well two years ago now ask for the larger variant uh while the iPhone 16 Pro Max might be the first to include a super telephoto periscopic camera which would bring significant increases in optical zoom super or Ultra telephoto usually mean a focal length of 300 mm which yeah sounds insane the current telephoto lens on the
pro is 77 mm 120 mm on the pro Max so this would be a big Improvement in zoom capabilities I mean Super telephoto cameras are often used for sports and Wildlife photography but uh they can also create some very soft bokeh making them great for portrait photography if there is enough distance between the subject and the photographer now as for the chip Apple's Next Generation a18 Pro chip is expected to be made using tsmc's more advanced 3 nanometer process called m3e which we currently already have on Apple's M4 chip for the iPad Pro all new iPhone 16 models are rumored to have an a18 branded chip though Apple might still differentiate between the pro and the Bas models with the aiming scheme of
A8 Pro having the A8 chip in all iPhone 16 models makes sense because of the new Apple intelligence features on iOS 18 these AI features need a more powerful chip to run on device along with ram currently only the A7 Pro is Apple intelligence capable so we expect both new chip variations to match or improve it now obviously more power even while more efficient can require extra resources as the iPhone 15 series wasn't necessarily a battery champ Wonder rumors suggest that the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Max will have larger batteries than their predecessors with the 16 getting a 6% increase and the pro Max getting a 5% increase but odd though is that the 16 plus might get a 9% reduction in battery
capacity and that uh to me is weird cuz last year's was the battery King Apple might also use stack Battery Technology to increase energy density and extend battery lifespan across all models also the iPhone 16 pro and pro Max are rumored to support 40 W wired fast charging and 20 W Max safe charging currently the 15 and 15 Pro Max at 27 watts and Peak while wired while uh Max safe is maxing at 15 watts the expected charging boost aims to balance and improve charging times even with the incre battery capacity that would be interesting another change and tidbit that we should consider is that apple is a rumored to develop a graphine thermal system for the 16 lineup with the iPhone 16 Pro Models possibly incorporating
metal battery casings to mitigate overheating graphine offers Superior thermal conductivity compared to Copper which is currently used on the iPhone 15 heat sncs and Apple has been exploring graphine for thermal management and its patents for some time this initiative might address overheating issues which we currently saw on the iPhone 15 Pro Models well Apple fixed it with software updates but uh it's not like if we got better battery life as for the rest of the specs the iPhone 16 pro and pro Max will offer a double the maximum storage capacity compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Models increasing from 1 tab to 2 terabytes this is made possible by Apple's adoption of a higher density
quad level cell qlc Nan flash for higher capacity models qlc Nan flash allows for more storage and smaller space and is more cost efficient than the current triple level cell nand used on the current iPhones however the qlc nand does tend to be slower at read and WR speeds we'll see about that additionally rumors suggest that both iPhone 16 and 16 plus models will feature 8 gigs of RAM which is up from six and uh well we'll just see what happens with the Pro Models as we do need more RAM for Apple intelligence and when it comes to design reports have that apple is using an enhanced finishing process for the Titan chassis on the 16 Pro Models uh this new process aims to give the 16 Pro and 16
Pro Max a more polished appearance compared to the brush level of the 15 Pro Models the redefined manufacturing technique will apparently result in a glossy look similar to what we had with the previous Pro Models and the new titanium finish is expected to be more resistant to scratches than actually stainless steel we've actually seen this on the titanium finish of ultra human Rings the iPhone 6 pro and pro Max are rumored to come in uh black white or silver gray or natural titanium and the new color which apparently is Rose replacing the blue titanium option of the 15 Pro meanwhile the 16 and 16 plus are said to be available in black green pink blue and white now as for pricing
uh well uh last year's iPhone production cost reached a record high with the 15 models costing more to manufacturer than predecessors for example the 15 Pro Max's production cost Rose 12% to $58 compared to the pro Max and even the other models in the lineup saw increases with the 15 by 16% to $423 for example despite these costs Apple did not raise retail prices on the 15 series and yeah we were going through a lot of inflation however analyst suggest that absorbing these increases in production costs may impact Apple's profitability and potentially leading to adjustments in pricing but uh these are just vague rumors nothing has been concrete so let's just wait as I don't think it would be a good move for Apple to raise
prices now as for the release date there were some sketchy rumors claiming that the new series could be delayed due to Apple intelligence features not being ready yet however uh we have updates on the topic Mark German says that the new iPhone is expected to launch around the same time as last year possibly on Tuesday September 10th the new iPhones will come with the latest IOS 18 operating system but users won't be getting Apple intelligence features until what like iOS 18.1 which might happen in October apple and its investors are hoping Apple intelligence will attract and uh get people to upgrade iPhones especially since only the Pro Models in the current lineup support it however Apple won't apparently delay the launch of the 16
series because of Apple intelligence German points that the last time that happened was in 2011 as Apple delayed an iPhone launch for things like iCloud and Sir this year though he doesn't think that delaying for Apple intelligence will be a good idea for the iPhone 16 launch date to conclude let's just say that these iPhones do sound packed with changes though uh yeah not necessarily that much different obviously we've uh yet to know what software improvements we're getting aside from Apple intelligence whatever the case may be let's see if uh whatever Apple does is going to be enough and trust me we're going to be covering all details as soon as they emerge let us know what you think about these possible updates in
