team, I hope you are all well. It's esteppe and it's a pleasure to talk to you today. Today we're going to talk about David Gogitz. I'm going to tell you the story of a man who went from a depressive and self-destructive state to a real war machine. A superman who became a model of perseverance and self- improvement, famous throughout the world. David Goggins' story begins in 1975 in the privileged neighborhoods of Buffalo City in New York State. He is the son of Jackie and Trenis Goggins. Trenis, his father, allows the family to live comfortably thanks to the ice rinks and roller club he owns in town.

These establishments do indeed provide him with nice financial stability, but you will see that the positive points unfortunately stop there. And yes, the businessman is actually a pimp combined with a handsome swindler who does not hesitate to set fire to his own buildings to collect insurance money. Alcoholic, thief, liar, he is also and above all an extremely violent husband and father. When he is at home, he spends most of his time beating his wife and terrorizing his sons. Besides, it's all well and good to have children, but there's no way they should refrain from going to work like everyone else. He therefore forces little David, only 6 years old, to go and work at night in one of

his ice rinks. Obviously, because he is working, the child cannot sleep. However, the next morning he is asked to go to school and he had better bring back good grades. Inevitably, David began to accumulate serious academic deficiencies, and when he returned home in the evening, it was often the same scene that played out again before his terrified eyes. His mother was beaten by his completely drunk father. His early traumas will leave a deep and indelible mark on the child's thought pattern and will never leave him. One day, Trunis beat his wife so hard and for so long that she eventually lost consciousness. What a load of crap! As usual, David witnesses the whole scene, but it is one faith too many for the

little boy who jumps onto his father's back in a desperate attempt to save his mother. Except that his courage will trigger a real wave of rage. The child was beaten for several minutes by his father, who hit him again and again with his belt. The next morning, when she came to wake him from his short night so that he could get ready before going to school, Jackie, David's mother, discovered with horror that her son was covered in bruises and huge hematomas from head to toe. That's when she understands. Her husband will end up killing her and their two children if she doesn't leave now. On that day, she made the bravest decision of her entire life. She fled her home with David and her brother, taking with her everything she could

throw into a single suitcase. The young mother and her two boys settle down at their parents' home in a small town in Indiana, Brazil. Located approximately 8 hours' drive from Buffalo. It can be said that she was determined to put some distance between herself and her abusive husband. But the problems don't end there. The early 1980s and at that time the culture of small towns in the Midwest was still very conservative. In concrete terms, this translates into very strong values such as patriotism and religion, but also persistent racial tensions. When Jackie, David and his brother settled in Brazil, African Americans represented less than 1% of the total population. Even worse, in the 1920s, it was precisely

in Indiana that the infamous Kux Clan had established its headquarters. At that time, in the state capital, this very active extremist group even controlled part of the political institutions, the courts and the police. By the 1980s, the power of the Cucux Clan had already collapsed. Fortunately, but in addition to the persistent impact it has had on mentalities, some small local groups are still trying to brainwash as many people as possible. Add to this wonderful context the fact that David Gogins and his family are the only African Americans in the neighborhood and you have the rest of the story. Far removed from the brutality of his father, the little boy now has to face violent and daily racism. At school,

we draw drawings of him hanging from the end of a rope. He receives death threats, humiliating insults about his skin color and one day he even finds himself with the barrel of a gun pointed at him. School was already not his strong point because of the delays he accumulated while working night shifts, and it only gets worse because of the harassment he has to endure day after day. For her part, his mother is doing her best to ensure her children have a roof over their heads by working three jobs at once. But this personal struggle overwhelms and exhausts her so much that she no longer really has the energy to worry about anything else. Gradually, David isolates himself and as he grows up, he

inevitably ends up running away and abandoning his studies. But rest assured, he will eventually experience a period of calm during this hell and even glimpse true happiness. Well, on the other hand, it's not going to last very, very long because life has decided from the start to make him suffer. It was in 1986 that her mother brought a new man into her life, Wilmot Irving. And it's a real blessing for the whole family, but especially for David and his brother who will finally know what a real father figure looks like. Wimot is attentive to

boys, caring, gentle and comforting. To put it simply, he is the exact opposite of Trunis. The man becomes a beacon of light in the storm for David. It allows him to find his place and thanks to, the teenager even begins to overcome his psychological problems. He finally feels like he has found a balance. But I told you that the happiness would be short-lived. On December 26, 1989, as the family was planning to move to the capital Indianapolis, Wimot was shot dead in front of their home. It was David who discovered her lifeless body. Just as he was finally coming up for air, he suddenly plunged back into darkness. The most. At the age of 19, failing at school, suffering from depression and its symptoms of post-traumatic stress

since childhood, he grew closer to his grandfather, a former military man who had a career in the air force. For the first time, the young man finds himself a goal, something to accomplish. However, although the entrance test was accessible, his reading and writing deficiencies were such that he was rejected twice in a row. He leaves himself no choice, he must succeed. So he spends hours and hours memorizing everything he reads and finally manages to get his precious key on the third try. He is now officially a member of the Air Force. But David does not intend to stop at this achievement.

However, his plans were thwarted during his training period because he was excluded for medical reasons. rescue training. It has David Gans left on a medical but the truth of the matter is I left because I quit. They have this thing called water confidence. Basically make you very uncomfortable underwent yet the army offers him a second chance. But the young man is overwhelmed by his old fears of failure. and returns to civilian life. David finds a job to make ends meet. He is an insect exterminator. In any case, it's clear that this is far from his initial dream. Not only does he hate this job, but he is also significantly underpaid and has no other option than to return to live with his mother Jackie. More alone than

ever, disgusted with his own life and deeply unhappy, he drowns his sorrows and regrets in chocolate mille-checks and boxes of donuts which he devours by the dozen in front of the television. Her weight, a reflection of her extreme distress and poor lifestyle, climbed to 140 kg at that time. But the irony is that it was precisely during one of these incredibly sad evenings that the real turning point occurred. He stumbles upon a documentary about naivety. The program details the selection tests with striking images that immediately resonate with David. This elite army has a reputation for training in the toughest training camps on the planet. This is all the young man has ever been

looking for. Rigour, mastery and self- improvement. Deep down, he knows it. This is what her life should look like instead of spending her time wallowing in her distress and traumas. He therefore contacts one of the recruiters as soon as possible to register for the next session. However, his obesity put an end to the interview. Indeed, to participate in the selections and in particular in the famous and terrible Lwiek. This week is meant to decide between the candidates, but there are some obligations to respect, including not exceeding a certain weight. In David's case, the bar is set at 86 kg, he weighs 140.

3 months 50 kg, that's a good training routine, a balanced diet, determination, it's doable. especially if he has the Inshape Nutrition protein way creatine BCA collagen supplements. All my nutritional supplements are available. You get 10% off with the new code 10. In concrete terms, this corresponds to an average loss of 4 kg per week, which in addition to being almost impossible in practice is also bad for the body. Muscle loss, slowed metabolism, deficiencies of all kinds, hormonal disorders, I've had my share of the worst. So please, do not take what follows as an example. David, he doesn't give a damn about his health.

All he cares about, is losing his damn 50 kg at any cost. Back home, he leaves his job, puts on a pair of sneakers and starts running for a little over a kilometer. But despite his motivation, his body wasn't ready. He is literally in a state of shock after this run which turned out to be a real ordeal because of his excess weight and lack of training. He goes home crying, disappointed and angry. But that doesn't mean he's going to give up because with him the harder it is, the more it awakens his mental strength. It's too much for him. Alright. So, it's going to get even harder. From then on, he imposed upon himself a grueling training routine that began every day at 4 a.m. Running is

put aside for the moment, but he is continuing with cycling, swimming, and intensive weight training sessions. and not just once a day. No, it's all day long; in parallel, he follows an extremely restrictive diet built around a single small meal a day, at the limit of what his body can sustain. Just before the Navy admission deadline, the scale shows 50 kg less. His health has certainly suffered, but David is happy. He achieved the feat of being ready in on time and at the right hour, thanks to the sheer force of his mind. He is ready to begin his first week of training, which is gleefully called lawick week, hell week. Lawick is the most dreaded and grueling stage of Navy training. On average, only 25% of candidates

manage to get through the first five days. Between the numerous abandonments, injuries, dismissals and also fatal accidents, this ordeal automatically eliminates those who do not possess the extraordinary determination expected of future soldiers. It is quite simply the most hardcore training program in the US military. And we'll tell you right away what's going on. Before you even start the LW, you are asked to do 20 pull-ups and a hundred push-ups in less than 2 minutes, then to swim more than 450m in a maximum of 9 minutes. Then come the formidable trials through which your endurance and tenacity are tested. Swimming in icy water, almost insurmountable race courses, loading gates in rough terrain. All this day and night without a break,

counting only 2 to 3 hours of sleep. But over the course of the whole week, all in the cold, the pain is under Fighter flight forgot every reason why you wanted to be there. You don't care about seals. You don't care about fighting for your country. You don't care about that guy goes trient. Now the question is whether David Gogins has managed to integrate his 25 % of surhor. Well, not at all. He hangs on as best he can, but unfortunately at the end of these 5 days, his body gives out due to pneumonia and stress fractures in both legs. David is therefore disqualified. It's over for him. Finally, that's what the instructors believe because he will participate in a second Elwick in which he is once again excluded following new fractures. It was only on the

third attempt, when he exceeded his physical limits to an unimaginable degree, that he succeeded. There's no more quit. So that's when I went and got duct tape. For the first 45 minutes, the duct tape hurt like hell. After 45 minutes, my legs would go numb stuff, you can't feel it. Navy training. Despite the pain of his injuries, he finally manages to obtain his precious key. On August 10, 2001, he finally graduated. But this victory is even more than that because David Gogin has just left his mark on history. A few years later, a Navy team was deployed to Afghanistan during the Al-Qaeda war. David knows these men very well. They are among the brothers in arms with whom he spent his last week of hell.

Moreover, one of them is also his best friend. But in June 2005, their helicopter was shot down in mid-air by an airstrike. When he hears the news, David is completely devastated. He can't grasp what happened and at the same time feels terribly helpless. He then began to turn to associations that help the families of fallen soldiers, notably by paying the children's school fees. He has just found himself a new battle: to raise as much money as possible in honor of his former comrades. This might seem rather anecdotal, but it is precisely this tragic event that will make our man a true legend. He wanted to accomplish something special to give visibility to his associations.

Something that everyone would hear about and that would be striking enough to attract everyone's attention. So he sits down at his computer and types a bit randomly into the search bar in order to find the toughest sporting event in the world. This is where the Bad Water ultrathon comes in. To give you a little bit of context, this is a race that was originally created with the idea of connecting the lowest point to the highest point in the United States. It takes place largely in the famous Death Valley and begins in the Bader Basin at 85 m below sea level and ends 217 km away at an altitude of over 2500 m. Because of the heat and its scorching winds, this extreme race is described as the most difficult in the world. In David's eyes,

for whom, it should be remembered, running has never been a pleasure, it sounds perfectly fine. He is not looking for something easy or comfortable [in music]. What he wants most of all is to go far beyond his physical and mental limits to give his all to the cause he defends before. But no matter how much he tells himself beforehand, the race organizer doesn't see it that way. You can't expect to register just because you've done a little jogging in your neighborhood once a month. And believe me, even for someone who is used to running marathons, it's a real challenge. However, David Gogins is not intimidated.

A 170km race. We must not forget that our friend is far from being prepared for an endurance race. But in addition to that, the day before, he participated in an ultra- intensive weight training session with eyelashes. He goes for it nonetheless, with the will firmly ingrained in his body and the strength of his mind as his only fuel. After all, it allowed him to join the elite unit of the US Army. That's not nothing, though. Everything is going pretty well in the first few kilometers of the marathon. But when he reached roughly the halfway point of the race, he began to feel the first signs of distress. He suddenly has a pressing need to go, but he can't even get up to go to the toilet.

Suddenly, something liquid and warm spreads to his crotch. When he lowers his eyes, it's fear. This is clearly a warning sign that should not be ignored. Besides, anyone else would have given up on this cursed race and rushed to the emergency room. But that's where we understand that David Goggins is not like other men. While he is paralyzed, overcome by pain and fear, and his vital signs are surely going haywire, he recalls every drama that has marked his journey so far. And he told himself one thing, if he survived all that, he can also survive this marathon. It is also there that he realizes something very important and which he will continue to repeat during his future lectures. When your body tells you it's

over, that you've reached your limits, when you believe you can't go any further, you 've only used 40% of your true resources. That's his famous 40% rule. As incredible as it may seem, that day, he got back up. resumes his race and crosses the finish line after 18 hours and 56 minutes of pure hell. However, you can well imagine that an ambulance is waiting for him on the other side. The soldier is sent immediately to the nearest hospital where he is diagnosed with severe kidney failure. The end of many weeks of rest and recovery is in sight. Finally, that's what the doctors would have liked because 10 days later, there was David Goggins again at the Las Vegas marathon. And it's not because he's

taken a liking to endurance racing, he still hates it. In his own words, the only way to acquire mental strength is to force yourself to do things you don't enjoy. And I completely agree with him. Please note, this is his perspective. But according to him, by continuing to do things that make us happy and satisfied, we simply stagnate instead of becoming stronger. In fact, David is obsessed with pushing his limits and continually improving himself. Fascinated by the power of the mind, he is always looking for a way to exploit it a little more by subjecting himself to unbearable physical conditions. In 2006, he was finally invited to participate in the Bad Water race where he obtained 5th place in the ranking. An

extraordinary performance for his level at the time. He will enter this race three times. The number 3 is definitely one he follows. And thanks to this, he will be able to raise more than $3 million in funds for the Special Operation Warrior Foundation. David Gogins eventually became one of the elite ultramarathon runners and was named a running hero by Runners World magazine in 2008. Yet, a year later, he was diagnosed with a serious heart condition that had been ignored until then. a congenital defect that creates a hole between the two atria of the heart. Until he underwent surgery, his heart was therefore only functioning at 75% of its

capacity and no one had the slightest idea about it. Since then, he has continued to make headlines on the international stage, not only for his sporting achievements, but also for his legendary mindset. This does not mean that he never fails, but rather that he always gets back up until he succeeds in reaching his goal. In 2012, for example, he sought to set a new world record by beating the previous record of 4020 pull-ups in 24 hours. To do this, you need to perform at least six pull-ups every minute. Good luck. Under the watchful eyes of the cameras, David manages to complete 3000 pull-ups but is forced to give up due to a defective bar. He tries the experiment a second time and it is another failure. Her hands, burned to the third

degree due to repeated friction on the bar, literally tore apart as the competition progressed. That day, he understood that mental strength is not always enough without proper preparation. Fortunately, as is often the case with him, the third time will be the charm. He comes back better prepared, better trained and manages to pass the of 4030 pull-ups in just 17 hours. Since then, he has become a sought-after speaker worldwide and also the author of the autobiographical bestseller Kant Earthme. A book recounting his story with poignant sincerity and candor. To this day, he is the only one to have passed and succeeded in the selection tests for the three

toughest branches of the US Army's special forces. He continues to train relentlessly day after day and to run the most hardcore ultramarathons on the planet, despite the fact that his knees are in such a disastrous state that they are now bone against bone and completely deformed. As you might expect, that's not going to stop someone who ran on two broken legs and patched up with scotch tape. By his own admission, David Gogins never gets enough. [laughs] No matter how many records he sets, he never allows himself to think that he has succeeded [in music] and that he can take a well-deserved rest.

With this mindset, there is no doubt that we will hear more about David and his exploits in the years to come. Tell me in the comments which other athlete you would like me to talk about. All my sports nutrition supplements are available. Protein Way, Clearway, creatine, protein bar, collagen, you get 10% off with the new code 10. CTA in shape, you're the best.
