Three brothers have been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking. The Alexander brothers include two former powerful real estate brokers. All were convicted of drugging and raping dozens of women over more than a decade. Federal prosecutors accused them of using their wealth and social status to lure the women who allegedly included two teenagers. CBS News legal reporter Katrina Kaufman was there in court and joins us now. So Katrina, we heard from a number of victims today. What did they say, Lindsay? It was really powerful to hear these women speaking in court, sometimes addressing the Alexander brothers who were sitting there. A few moments that really stood out to me was there was one
girl who talked about being drugged and incapacitated by the Alexander brothers in the Hamptons. And she said, "I never imagined my first time in the Hamptons would become a nightmare. What looked like a beautiful place became a mansion of horror, a place full of dark secrets." Um, another one said, "The Alexander brothers are not the A team the way they used to refer to themselves and they are not above the law." These women, Lindsay, they talked about the long-term trauma that they've experienced. Some of them have nightmares, can't be in intimate relationships with men. They've dealt with so much and it was really emotional to hear them speaking in court. Another one of them brought up her young daughter who was 8 years old
who she said was at a sleepover recently and had read about her and she said that she wants to make sure that her daughter doesn't live in a world with guys quote as demented as you guys are and she actually then just walked out of the room after she had finished talking. She told the Alexander brothers that they were just a waste of everyone's time had wasted her time, the court's time and all of the victims clapped as she exited that courtroom. Lindsay, wow. We also know each brother got a 30 years in prison. What can you tell us about the terms and what they had to say when addressing the court? So, they're each getting 30 years in prison. They also have to each pay um two of them have to pay $300,000 in
restitution and one of them $350 in restitution. They'll each also have 10 years of supervised release. But the judge, I think it's worth mentioning, had some very powerful words for them. Um, for one, the brothers did not express remorse in court. Some of them talked about being ashamed of what they did, but they denied drugging or raping these women. And what the judge said was, she said the brothers are quote, "a lot like Dr. Jackekal and Mr. Hyde." She said that the witnesses had credibly testified about them being sadistic, misogynistic, sexual predators. She described their conduct as monstrous. and she said to them, "Far from accepting responsibilities for your
actions, you have blatantly denied it." Um, the brothers, Lindsay, also talked quite a bit in court about their children, about their aging parents, saying that they had changed their lives. And she said that while she doesn't believe that they're beyond redemption, she didn't give them a life sentence, she doesn't believe them, and that's not a get out of jail free card, that she believes these victims and what they testified about in court. Katrina Coffin, thank
