Ever since I started skating, my dream has been to break the skateboarding speed record. And it's led me to this incredible road in the Austrian mountains. This isn't the first road we've tried. I've spotted roads all across the world. I've spent countless nights on Google Maps searching for the right place to do it on, and I've had to overcome a lot of challenges along the way that I've learned from. The current record was set 9 years ago on a unique road in Canada. 146.73 kmh. However, that road has eroded so much that most people think it's unscable. And this is why we're here. So, this road is one of the steepest
I've ever seen at 23% grade is extremely rare. So, the road is divided into four key sections. The first one is a drop with a corner. The second is the chicanees, the third the top speed, and lastly the cracks and bumps. Oh man, it's crazy. Yeah. Wow. Look at that, man. It looks like a racetrack, huh? Yeah, for real. I can't hit these cracks at full speed. So, I'm going to have to slow down to try to get around them. Even if I get the perfect line, I'm going to be hitting bump after bump, crack after crack. I mean, I'm just going to have to skate it. We're going to have to do a few runs and see.
Greg is the person who always films my runs. He's an incredible skater himself, which means he understands my movements and knows how to drive so close behind me. Very grippy. That's good. I'm about to do the first run. It's always very tense, especially dropping a road like this. But I'll take it a bit more chill so I can really learn what I need to focus on. All right, guys. Let's get it. Oh, that was sick. An edge so really 116. 116 per run. Insane, bro. So good, bro. And the slide. Perfect. That could not have gone better.
Gave me so much confidence. All right, so we're done with the warm-up runs. It went super well. The road is so promising. I had a lot of fun. Now it's time to get into my fastest suit and see just how fast this rule can go. Greg, you ready? Yes, sir. Okay. All right. Heat up here. Damn. Ah, let's go. Oh my god. Good job, bro. Insane. Okay, guys. What speed was that? 129 km/h. 129, bro. It's a crazy speed, but we're not there. Yeah. 17k remaining. This was probably the most promising road that we've tested. So, it's a real bummer to see that this is not the place. But at the same time, it's made me realize that the
Canada road where the record was set is so unique that it's probably the only option. So, there's no other choice but to go and have a look and hope that the people who told me that it's not skatable are wrong and that we can actually go full speed and do it. So, we're here in Quebec in Canada. We're heading to what I think is the fastest road in the world. a place where many records have been broken and I've heard so many stories about it, but to actually be this close, it's a pretty crazy feeling. We're one minute away. If we discover that this road is skatable, I want to do more than just break the record. I want to try and hit 150 km/h.
Man, I can see the drop. It just disappears, bro. Oh, it's crazy. This is like a dream being here. I've seen so many different videos and different clips when I was learning to skate. The last record was set by my friend Pete Connelly 9 years ago on this road. He was the only person who thought that going 150 km/h was possible, but tragically he passed away before he could try. So, this is also a tribute to a great friend and athlete. I've searched for roads all across the world and as far as I know, this is the only road that matches the conditions that I need. It's insanely steep. It's very straight and it sustains that for a long distance. So this is the crest of the hill. It's the place where you're going
already 100 110 km an hour and suddenly the drop disappears. Your stomach drops and you cannot see the bottom. Bro, if you go here at 140. No, I'm not making it. That's little. Well, there's two options. I can stay in this place and I'm going to feel the crack. Maybe my feet will move a bit. It might not be stable, but this is the fastest line. Cuz if I come here, the crack is better, but look at how rough the road is, man. That's not good. The only problem is not the steepness, the road, the asphalt.
It's also the animals. There's deer. And worse even would be some kind of moose or a polar bear. Who knows what kind of animals are here. We're setting up a speed trap at this point of the road to capture my top speed. These could be the most important meters of my life cuz they could make me the fastest human ever on a skateboard. However, immediately after my top speed, I go straight into this corner and I won't be able to slow down because if I get up, I just suddenly fly away. So, I have to commit. Pretty emotional to be here. I've imagined this for years in my head. And to actually know that I'm a few minutes away from dropping is a insane feeling.
I can't even see his board. We're going to go to the start line now. To see the job just disappear is uh [snorts] quite powerful. Let's see if this is possible. First run. Let's go. Heat up So scary, bro. It's worse than I expected. There's so many bumps. Just have to find the right line. So, it was quite scary when I saw the drop and I was picking up speed while feeling that the board was sort of moving where it wanted. So, yeah, it was just an insane uh insane moment of adrenaline.
Now I'm going to try to do some setup changes and see if I can really figure out the right way to do this cuz it's just a monster of a hill and it demands a lot of preparation. On my first run, I only managed to reach 132, which is still 14 away from the record and a long way off my 150 goal. All right, let's try this time with the arrow suit. Wow. What's going on, bro? That was crazy. What happened? He started wobbling. Damn. Yeah, it was pretty sketchy, bro. He got so close to the edge. I must say the road is in even worse conditions than I expected. It is skatable, don't get me wrong, but at those speeds it's being quite difficult,
quite dangerous. And if I have to do what I'm doing now at 135, but at 150, like it's going to be insane. Like I don't have the words. I'm verifying that my trucks are perfectly straight cuz sometimes there can be just a millimeter and that can cause some problems. And now it's feeling like it's taking me a bit to the left. Let's try it. Yeah, bro. 140. That's a new personal best. Now, the wind becomes so strong that you just try to be in harmony. But if you make a tiny mistake, tiny move, your arms just get pulled to the side, like so strong. Insane, man. Good job. Go. So, we've proven that the unskatable road is actually skatable. But to break the record here, I'm going to have to
improve my equipment. To do that, we're going to travel to Win Tunnel, a place normally reserved for Formula 1 and Moto GPS, but we're going to be putting a skateboard in there. The four main pieces of equipment I need to improve are my helmet, my suit, my shoes, and my board. You want to measure in a controlled environment. This is the only place you can do this. You cannot do this on an open road. There's always turbulence in the wind. We're starting to test the new helmet. It's better. Yeah. The purpose behind this helmet is to clean the air flow around my body so it feels like I'm in the cocoon. So this is the one, huh?
There are two main innovations we brought with the suit. Very tight. The first is a special fabric that basically trips the air around. The second is a spoiler on my back that hides my hands and ensures a clean separation. I don't think anyone has ever seen something like this. So, the goal is that the wind goes over you and does not have a lot of turbulence behind you. This could really be the best technology, huh? And now I'm going to put the Prada shoes to try them on at 150K. Come along. Don't move. Something is not quite right with the new shoes yet.
I think I have to learn to use them because it's just a different stability. The purpose of the shoes is to clean up the air flow around my lower body. And the thinner soles means I'll have a lower center of gravity. How much was the improvement? A huge one. To gain extra speed, we added a carbon frame around my skateboard. My board itself is quite short, and I like to call it the Formula One of skateboards because it lets me be very agile and aggressive while being very stable and avoiding wobbles. Oh, it's the best of the day. Woohoo! Biggest improve of the day. Let's go.
Yes, bro. All the pieces we've been building actually work and work even better than we expected to be honest. It's like a big weight off your shoulders and then you feel confident to actually do it for real. Okay, so the gear is feeling super dialed in. I'm feeling really good. We're back on the road in Canada. So now we're just going to wait for the right wind and we're going to go for the record. The previous world record was set with massive tailwinds. We won't have as much today, but let's hope for a tiny push with Diego. They're having headwind right now. Just got to keep comfortable. So wind is slightly smoother, which is a good thing. So we are good to go.
The wind is super sideways. Super sideway. Yeah, it's sketchy. Super sketchy. We can just take a break until the wind changes cuz it's like complete chaos. So, the perfect wind direction for me. It's still down, but right now it's being funneled from the side and just hitting me at the worst place, and it's making me lose my balance. So, I'm hoping that suddenly it's just going to shift a bit and allow for the perfect conditions. Winds all along the road are in the proper direction. This is it. Let's go. The wind is good. Really good conditions. Up to 17 km of tailwind. That's pretty good, huh?
I think so. No, pretty good. Tell me, tell me, tell me. I don't want to wait. Tell me, tell me, tell me. Guys, we have a speed. 151. [screaming] That was crazy, bro. Let's go, bro. I can't believe it. Wow, bro. You got it.
