PUERTO MADERO 🇦🇷 Guide to Buenos Aires' Newest Neighbourhood! | Transcript:

Hello friends. So today we are diving head first into Buenocidis newest and fastest growing neighborhood. That's right, we are talking about Puerto Mado. We recently had the opportunity to spend 5 days in Puerto Mado. So we want to share this neighborhood with you. This is the former port and docklands area of Buenocidis, but it has undergone a huge transformation in recent years. So now you can see skyscrapers, riverside prominads and the former brick warehouses now hold restaurants and breweries and cafes and hotels. So it is a very exciting time to be in that neighborhood. Another nice thing about it is that it is a place with a lot of

green spaces. You have parks, plazas, and the eco reserve. So you don't really feel like you're in the city when you're in Puerto Mado. So, in this video, we're going to share everything that you can do in Puerto Mado, where to eat, where to stay, day trips you can go on, and we're also going to talk about who this neighborhood is best suited for. So, if you're visiting Buenocida soon, we invite you to hit subscribe and stick around for this video. So, who exactly is going to enjoy Puerto Madero? I have two main observations. First of all, this is kind of an expensive part of the city. It is very spendy. So you are going to pay a lot more for accommodations and food. A lot of the hotels here are five stars. So that is

something to keep in mind. The other thing I noticed is that Puerto Mado is really kidfriendly and familyfriendly. So it might be a neighborhood to consider if you're traveling with children, especially young children. Some other things to keep in mind is that Puerto Moo has a lower population density, so it doesn't feel very crowded. You don't have the heavy traffic that you get in other parts of Buenocidis. The sidewalks are wider and it's just a nice place to walk around, stroll. They have lots of green spaces. That means parks, plazas, prominads, and you also have a lot of different activities for kids both in terms of outdoor playgrounds and also museums geared specifically towards children.

So, in short, you're going to see a lot of young families and you're also going to see a lot of people who are here to spend money and have a good time. Now, let's talk about things to do in Puerto Madero. I'm going to kick things off with the ecological reserve, also known as Reserva Echolika Costa Rasur. This eco reserve is free to visit, a free attraction. This is always wonderful. and it's made up of 350 hectares of wetlands and they have trails, boardwalks, and lookout points where you can enjoy the wildlife. There's a lot of bird life if you're into spotting birds. And the lookout points also give you nice views of the neighborhood where you can see the skyscrapers. So, we have three different lagoons we can visit.

There's the lagoon of the seagulls here, lagoon of the ducks, and then lagoon of the kooipos. Not entirely sure, but it must be a type of bird. So friends, I am super excited to be here because at long last, we are visiting Reserva Echolika Costa Rasur. This is an ecological reserve here in Puerto Mado where you can see all sorts of wildlife, specifically bird life. And this is actually one of the primary reasons why we chose to stay in this neighborhood. We have stayed in many, many different neighborhoods in Buenocidis over the years, but never Puerto Madero. And we love that it's close to this ecological reserve that we were going to have lots of green spaces. And it also seemed like

a very familyfriendly neighborhood. So, right now, we're just exploring the ecological reserve on foot, and I'm looking forward to seeing all sorts of aquatic birds over the course of our stroll. So, we had so much fun walking around here in the Eco Reserve and we've just popped into the interpretation center. It's about 5° cooler than outside. So, air conditioned, air conditioned. It's just wonderful place to cool down after sweating out there a little bit, but um yeah, it was just a really fantastic park. Obviously, the coolest part about it is that it's absolutely free to visit. It is enormous. Now, I knew this park was going to be big, like when I've looked at it on Google Maps, but actually being

there and seeing it in person, there's basically two different viewpoints. The one viewpoint where you're looking back to the modern skyscrapers reminds me a lot of Hong Kong. That contrast between the green space and the modern buildings, but when you look to the other side, it's nothing but nature for as far as the eye can see. That's just how big this park is. We only just barely scratched the surface. And we'll show you how much we actually covered here on the map. We just did like this little part here. Yes. So, we came in through the main entrance this whole length, but look at how much more you can explore.

Yeah, exactly. So, it's amazing and it's so nice to see how many people are coming here. You have school kids, there's people out jogging, there's families, you see people out with their mate and cretos. It's just a fun place to be. And um I'm really glad we came here. This is somewhere we've always wanted to come in Buenosaris and we just never got around to doing it. Finally, we're here and this is an attraction that definitely lives up to its reputation. As a little tip, it does get really warm at the eco reserve. We visited in the late spring and I would say bring a hat, bring lots of water, and if you're going a bit later in the summer, maybe also bring bug repellent.

Next, let's talk about the waterfront prominade. That's probably the most iconic area of Puerto Mado. It's what you normally see on the postcards, on the documentaries in your guide book. And this is basically the former port area. It is lined with red brick industrial buildings. These former warehouses where they used to store grains and goods to be loaded onto the ships and then sent off to Europe. So, a lot of these constructions are still standing. They have just been repurposed and turned into steakous and breweries and bars and cafes and ice cream shops. So, it's a really cool area to walk around and just enjoy on foot. So, it is a beautiful day to be out and about here in Puerto M. It is springtime. So, as

you can see, the trees are in bloom. These are called the hakarandanda and they have this beautiful purple flower and we've got like petals all along the boardwalk. It's just so pretty and cheerful and spring-l like. And one really interesting thing about Porto Mado is that it's quite quiet during the daytime. I would say at night time in the evenings it's when the restaurants are really buzzing. You know, the steak houses, the breweries and things like that. But right now in the daytime, it is very sleepy. It's kind of commercial, kind of residential, so you do have a little bit of everything. And also, it's a neighborhood that caters to a lot of young families. So, you're going to see

the little kids out in the strollers enjoying their little walks and things like that. Sam is noticing things. Tell us. Yes, I sure am. Well, first off, I want to say what a difference being here in the morning versus the evening. I know you've already talked a little bit about this, but this is really a dissection of Argentine culture. Argentine culture is a night culture. People come out at night after 7 8:00 p.m. things start to get pulsating. Things start to get happening. But in the morning, even at uh close to 11:30 in the morning, it's quiet. It's chill. The vibe is very

relaxed. Nothing's really happening at the moment. Just a few cafes open for breakfast. But something I am noticing is we're staying on the outskirts of Porto Madero. And as we get a little bit more closer to the tourist zone and the main crossing pedestrian bridge, the prices of the lunch menus have been going up. So, as we were walking by, it was like 14 to 15,000 pesos and then 16 to 17 and now 18 to 19. So, as we're getting closer to that bridge there, the prices are going up. So, just something to keep in mind. If you want a little bit of a better deal, maybe head a little bit away from the tourist zone.

It is getting hot and humid, guys. But we just walked across de la or the woman's bridge. Now, this is supposed to look like a couple dancing tango. I think it's probably a very modern interpretation because I can't quite see it. Maybe like the way the woman kicks the leg when she's dancing tango and like lifts up her knee. Maybe there's a similarity in the shape there. Um, but otherwise I don't quite understand the name, but that is the main attraction I would say here in Puerto Madero. You've got to see the bridge, walk across it. All righty, guys. So, we are out for a little evening stroll. We came out for sunset blue hour here in Puerto Moo. There's a lovely prominade and it is buzzing. I

mean it has finally cooled down and there's a wonderful breeze. So everybody is out enjoying a nice walk, families, strollers, the dogs and this is also an area that has a lot of restaurants and breweries and cafes. So plenty of opportunities for dining. I will say the west side of the prominade or the west side of the canal has way more restaurants and breweries and it's more lively. Um, some of them are a bit high-end and some of the other ones have more of like a club vibe with like very loud music, young people, big groups of friends are gathered. So, there's something for everybody. And yeah, just really glad we came at night and saw kind of a different side of the neighborhood. There's so many options when you're coming here. If you want to

have a fancy steak, you can. If you want to just grab a burger and a pint, you can. If you want to go for fast food, you can also do that. Cafes, alphahores, you name it, they've got it out here. And um it was fun just being out here with Baby. Baby loved it. She was doing her kickity kicky cacks, as we like to say, and then she fell asleep. Yeah. So, fun family outing. Another nice thing about this area is that you can see the old yellow cranes that used to load the goods onto the ships. Those have been left behind just to show the industrial history of the neighborhood. And they're kind of like these massive sculptures. So, look out for those as well. All right, for all the moms and

dads out there, we are currently visiting the Museum of Imagination and Play here in Puerto Mado. And it's really cool because basically there's this big outdoor space with all sorts of games and like climbing gyms and swings and just a nice play area for kids to explore and have fun. But also inside they have three different programs um depending on your kids ages. So 0 to 3, 4 to 7, and then 7 to 12. They have um separate rooms with like activities and games that are engaging. So, it's a fun option for families who are visiting with children. We did not book one of the indoor slots. You do have to book online because they are limited and only one parent can go in per child.

Yeah, only the children pay and right now it's 5,000 pesos, which is less than five bucks. 350. Yeah, it's 3 something. Our daughterelli just learned how to walk a few days ago, so she's on the cusp of being able to enjoy all these types of things. It was cool because I was able to take her on the swing for the first time. She got to walk on the balance beam and um yeah, it's going to be a really fun chapter where we're going to be able to take her to these kids playgrounds and parks a little more often. We're going to have to be seeking those out for sure. Yeah, definitely. Now, a little fun fact about the Museum of Imagination and Play is that this building used to be the former Munich brewery. So that's why if you look along

the exterior of the building, you're going to see these Bavarian beer themed images. You might be thinking, why is this on a kids museum? It's to preserve the history of the former brewery. One thing we absolutely loved about our time staying in Puerto Madero were the plazas and the parks and the green spaces available to adults, but also for children to run around and enjoy. So, my favorite plaza we went to is called Araldo Conti, and I really liked it because the playground there is huge. They have all sorts of swings and slides and these giant trucks that children can climb into. And they also have these puzzles and memory games where kids can match different animals. So, it's just a really fun area, really spread out. They

have picnic tables where you can sit down. And because it's very leafy and shaded, it means you can take the kids there almost any time of day and you're not going to be under the burning sun. Well, we have some first impressions to share of Puerto M staying as a family with the baby. I mean, this is our first time to stay in this neighborhood. The population density is just a mere fraction of what it is in the more historic parts of the city. A completely different side of Wenosaris. Very quiet, very chill. We're walking around here in this neighborhood park. There might be like three other people and um yeah, it's just a completely different experience from

what we're used to in Buenosirus. All righty. So, we are now continuing through Plaza Aldo Conti. And my favorite thing about this place are the trees and the shade they provide. It is only springtime here in Buenocidis, but it is already so hot and humid. And look at this beautiful green canopy that we've got over us. This is what is allowing us to enjoy the outdoors. Get some fresh air because if there were no trees, guys, we would be suffering right now. So, yeah, this is just really nice. A very shaded area. And again, we're seeing lots of kids enjoying playtime. So, our sweet baby girl is a little bit too young to be enjoying this, but this playground is fantastic. Check out this.

It looks like a truck or like a little mini bus. So creatively designed the different animals you can see in Argentina. Condor wakamo. Oo migo. That's the anteater llama. Okay. I think these are also some animals of South America. Daguar condor again. So there are two museum ships that you can visit in Puerto Mado. We've walked past both of them on this visit, but we have actually gone aboard both museum ships on a previous visit. So, that's why I wanted to include those here as well. The first one is the ARRA Uruguay, and this is the oldest ship

still afloat in the Argentine Navy. Pretty impressive. It was built in England in 1874 and it was operational up until 1926 and it had a multitude of uses over the course of its life. It was a gunboat, a school ship, an expedition support ship, a survey vessel, but it is best known for its Antarctic rescue of Nordon Schul's ship, the Antarctic. So, this was the ship that went to the rescue when the Antarctic became trapped in the ice. The ship was crushed. It took on water. So all of the crew had to be rescued. The Argentine captain, Julian Idrisad, led the rescue and he came back to Wenocidis as a national hero. So you can go aboard that ship and learn more a bit about that history. And just imagine

what life would have been like aboard a vessel like that back in the day. And then the other ship that you can visit in Puerto Mado is called the Arra President Sarmento. Now, this is a threemasted training ship that first launched in 1897, and today it is the last cruising training ship from the 1890s that is still intact. So, this Navy school ship completed 37 voyages around the world between 1899 and 1938. And one of the things I remember most about my visit aboard that ship a few years ago was seeing a taxiderermy dog named Lampaso. He was a Newfoundland dog and he was the pet of the sailors and a very brave one at that because during a very severe storm he actually jumped into the stormy waters to rescue a

sailor who had fallen overboard. So he is well remembered and this dog is also a bit of a hero with the Argentine Navy. Another thing you can do in Puerto Moo is go to a tango show. Now we have been to many tango shows over the years. So, we didn't do so on this visit, but I did want to mention that there's a place called Mado Tango in Puerto Mado. So, if you don't feel like traveling very far to another part of the city to see tango, you can do so right here in this neighborhood. And they offer a lot of different options. You can take a tango lesson. You can do the dinner and show or you can do just the show. So now let's talk about day trips from Puerto Mero because this neighborhood

specifically is really great if you want to go on boat trips. First of all, I want to talk about boat trips to neighboring Uruguay. You can visit another country on a day trip or for a bit longer if you want to. So in Puerto Moo is where you'll find the Bukaboo terminal. So Bukus is the company that operates the ferry to Uruguay. It's an hour and 15 one way if you're going over to Colonia and it is 2 hours and 30 minutes to cross over to the capital city of Monte Vido. So if you're up for a day trip to Uruguay, you can do so very easily from Puerto Madero. Now another trip you can do is to Tigra.

Tigere is this riverside little town, super popular day trip from Buenosides. And there's a terminal in Puerto Mero. You can go with a company called Sturla Vis and you can do a round trip by boat there and back or if you want you can go one way by boat and then come back on the train or as you wish. And aside from Tigra, you can also book little boat tours down to Laboka. So that's another way to do a bit of sightseeing from the water and seeocitis from a different vantage point. Now let's talk about food in Puerto Moo. We ate and we ate very well. So here I'm going to tackle steakous, ice cream, and breakfast options. So first, let's start with steak. We went to eat at Sea Lavaka and

they offer an all you can eat buffet for the equivalent of 30 USD per person. You can go up to the grill, get as much meat as you want, as many times as you want. They also have a salad buffet, pasta buffet, desserts, and you also get a drink with your meal. And when I say a drink, a bottle of wine per person. This is a bit shocking to me, but this is Argentina, so yes, you can go to a buffet and have your own bottle of wine. It's got to be malbeck, of course. Well, friends, it is now lunchtime here in Puerto M, and we're going to a restaurant called Calava. Follow the cow. You can probably tell it's going to be beef. It's going to be barbecue or

what they call parisia here in Argentina. This is a place that comes highly recommended from my uncle who ate here a long time ago, years ago, maybe even a decade, and he raved about this meal. So, we are finally trying this place out. And we're going to show you an abundance of meat because like I said it is buffet style all you can eat beef starting with the first course. Starting with the salad obviously the meat the carne the parisia the asado that's the star of the show but we're going to get a little bit of a base going here first. So they had a really nice salad buffet. All kinds of different options from pasta salad to

mix salads to just the ingredients on their own. for instance, like the carrot and the beetroot are separated. You could also get Milana. You could also get little empanadas as well. And so there's a quite a nice extensive menu. I'm happy. I'm going to go dig in. I'm going to try a little bit of the puree and the beer. It's nice to be getting some healthy ingredients because literally aside from this, I'm just going all in on the meat and fridge. We couldn't be at the prior or the without having a ball back. So this meal comes with a drink of your choice. Audrey went for the aua kongas and of course I went for the vinotinto the red wine and have to get the mulbec. So this is San

vubberto classicalico and they poured a little bit for me already. So time to try it. Saloo. If you haven't tried the moldbeck wine, it's a nice full body wine and it goes perfect with Parisia. So got to love it. So here we've got the cut of a basio, the sausage, some pumpkin puree, mini little baby empanada looking cute salads. The moment in action dessert time at the table, we're having the pancake demon with the pancakes. We have my friend Vina from German. Hello is having lee. How was it? We are walking out of that buffet beyond stuffed and I wasn't able to eat as much as I thought I would.

Yeah, I know. Normally, we'd eat a bit more, but we actually showed some self-control for once. Yes, we did. That was kind of cool. But in terms of meat, I keyed in on the vasio. Yes. And also the matambre ala pizza. Yes. Instead of the dough, it's the meat as the base. And then you still got the sauce and the cheese. Yes. Um I really like the salad bar. And then the other thing I also want to talk about is they had a really nice extensive dessert menu as well. So I went for the pancake de dosa de le de leche which is a pancake filled with a

copious amount of dosa de leche that wonderful Argentine caramel sauce. So that was really decadent and then also just to have the bottle of wine too was really nice. So per person a bottle of wine per person. You say you want wine they bring you a whole bottle guys. So I know I was sharing with your friend Verina so and she shared a little bit of her Coke Zero. Yeah. So very abundant. You can eat as much as you want and well we barely scratched the surface. So good spot, good food. Yeah, exactly. All righty, friends. So we are having a pretty iconic meal. So all along the Costana or the coastline, you've got these little food trucks like the one you can see just over my shoulder where

you can have all kinds of beef sandwiches. So you can get your classic chip pan, which is the chiso or sausage on a bun. You can get steak sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, fries. It's kind of like street food, the Argentine version of street food. So, we found a nice little shaded spot. And that's exactly what we've ordered. We have two chibanis coming our way. Also, a plate full of fries, a cold drink, and we're just going to enjoy a nice meal outdoors. Alfresco. So, I am getting what's called the superch pan. Yes, you are. So, if we take a look down here, we can see that we have not just the toy pan, but it's loaded with the egg. It's got onions. It's got tomatoes.

Nice. Yeah. A side of fries. Yeah. The papas fras, the French fries to go along with it. So, yeah, this is like your classic Argentine street food. And we found a really nice place in the shade to eat it, which is amazing. Let's try that. It's been a long time since I've had a pan. M. That smoky flavor along with a bit of chim churi. Really nice introduction to being back here in the city. Street food on the go. You've got the classic one. The simple. The classic one. Yes. Simple. So, just a bun, a sausage, cooked on the grill, sliced open, loads of chimuri.

He's like, "It's spicy. Are you okay with spice?" I love spice. How's that? That's what I was expecting. And it's um half beef, half pork, the sausage. Wow. So, it's really nice and juicy. So juicy. And look, you're sitting under a beautiful tree. Yeah. So much to eat. Mhm. So tasty. So my sandwich was about five bucks. 5 USD. Sam's was a little bit more since it's got loads of ingredients and fries, but overall a super affordable meal and really delicious. Yeah. For ice cream, we went to Luchanos, which is a really famous gelato shop. It has also been voted the number one ice cream shop in Buenocidis, so that's something to consider. You can

get a large cup of ice cream for 475 USD, and their ice cream is really tasty, and they have a lot of variety. We are at Lucanos. We came for gelato. It is so hot and humid outside. We were suffering on the way back from the kids museum. So, I got ice cream. I got the large cup, two flavors with coconut and strawberries and cream. So, I went for something a little bit fruity, refreshing, and I am going to share with the baby a little bit to cool her down. Sam, I don't know what is up with Sam, who normally gets lee.

No, I'm just joking. I'm just going to have a few bites. It's mostly for you and baby. Yeah. No lee for you. I'm a new man. What can I say? I'm not as big into sweets anymore. Oh, but I think the baby will be into the sweets for sure. Hey, girl. Oh, that is very good. I got to say nice of you to share since I didn't get my own. I tried some of the coconut, too. Oh, that's even better. Yeah. I'll let you hack away at the strawberry. You got strawberry? Yeah. I'll let you hack away at the strawberry and then I'm going to dive into the coconut. That's some ice belly.

Sounds good. I'm going to see if baby girl wants to cool off with a bit of ice cream. Now, let's talk about breakfast in Puerto Madero because you can spend as much or as little as you want. So, just to give you an idea, on our first morning in Puerto Mado, we ate at La Peranta and we got a cafe con leche with two medialunas or croissants. That came to $4.50 for the coffee and the two medialunas. If you think that's a little too much, there are more affordable options. I'm going to send you to Mustasa, which is Argentina's equivalent of a McDonald's, and they have a really good breakfast promo that we enjoyed. You can get a latte and two medallunas for $2. And we actually ended up going there daily for

our breakfast. They also had grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, alfahores, orange juice. So, you can really mix it up. Now, let's talk about accommodations in Puerto Madero. At the beginning of this video, I told you this is a very spendy neighborhood and there are a lot of five-star hotels. These include Fenna, Alviad, Iikin Hotel, Hotel Mado. So, those are probably the most iconic properties, all five stars. And these are hotels that have pools, spas, hamoms, in-house restaurants, and bars. So, if you want luxury, you're going to find it in Puerto Mado. Now, because this is also a very residential neighborhood, it does mean that you can find some apartments for rent. So, you can look on Airbnb or on Verbbo. We managed to find an apartment, and we

loved it because it was very kid-friendly. And with our toddler, I wanted something that was on ground level, no balconies for me. We needed some space for her to run around and our apartment had a little terrace with a trampoline for her to play. I also like that the furniture didn't have any sharp or pointy edges because, you know, kids are learning to walk. I don't want them falling head first into a pointy glass table. And I also really appreciated that they had a special kids room with a jungle mural. They had a toddler bed and like lots of books for our daughter to just play and enjoy. So, we ended up booking an apartment and that's what I would recommend doing if you don't want to go for the luxury option. Look for a

self-catering apartment. So, that was our guide to Puerto Mero. We hope you find it useful and that you have a better idea of whether this neighborhood is right for you. If you enjoyed this video, give us a thumbs up. We invite you to hit subscribe and also leave us a comment letting us know what other Winnocitis neighborhoods you would like for us to cover next. Thanks for watching and see you next time. Tata
