Inside the Ultra-Rich Gypsy Mansions of Romania. | Transcript:

Today we're going to meet some of the richest gypsies in the entire world. Mega mansions. They own entire neighborhoods, €200,000 cars, 13-year-old boys inheriting mansions to live in with their wives, and enough gold to sink a ship. Wealth off the charts like you can't imagine, be on the receiving end of some incredible hospitality, and witness some straightup strange scenes. One of the most unique days of my entire life. Strap in. This one's extreme. Welcome to the side of a bit of highway here in Romania. Left Bucharest, the capital this morning at the crack of dawn. Been driving for maybe 3 hoursish, another hour. We're going to one of the richest parts of the gypsy settlements

in Romania. I know that Roma people have somewhat of a mixed reputation and I thought it'd be interesting to show the wealthy side of the Roma because a lot of people often think of Roma as more on the poorer side. So, it's going to be very interesting experience. Pulled over at a petrol station first though because we can't show up empty-handed. I'm about to get into a AMG Mercedes that's probably worth a couple hundred grand. Nice car. Beautiful. So, this is Bill and he's going to be my main man here. One of the most influential people in the world of Romans. I just went to put my uh seat belt on and he said to me, "Don't do that. I'm the boss. The police won't do

anything." Essentially, I normally do wear a seat belt, but when you're in the man's world, then you do what he says. No restrictions. He says, "Film whatever you want to film." He wants to show the best time. He wants to really show the culture around here. So, quite exclusive and a bit of an honor, I think. Beautiful car. Oh, me. Yes. Yeah, Mercedes. Where we're going is going to be mega mansions and things. So, it's going to be quite the experience. So, when we arrived, we were told that this man, Bill, here is the richest man in the area and controls it. He's the boss. I'm just in a bit of a amazement right now. When we arrived, they said, "We don't live in houses. We live in palaces." We're arriving at one

of those right now. So, he's basically he's pointing at basically all the houses and saying, "These all belong to me." I probably the most expensive car I've ever been in. We got you a present. Giving the wine and the chocolate. This is my right hand man, Constantine. Did you build this palace? For 6 months he built the palace. They working day and night. Should we take a look inside then? Oh wow. No way. Oh wow. Wa. This is the real Romanian gypsy palace. Over here in this area is the most rich gypsy Romanian people entire Romania. And that would probably be in the world.

So these are the richest gypsies in the world. His mother is the most rich lady and they believe in God. That's a unbelievable. Got all new furniture here. There's a love heart on the roof. I think those are gold laced curtains there. The white furniture here is imported from Egypt.

Unbelievable. In Romania, we have a traditional drink stronger like a whiskey. We called Suika. He will give to you and you will see the big boiler where you put the suika they build this okay because it's a tradition Romania each family from the village they prepare this drink he trust in God and God give him everything okay he not go to another country to stealing to rape no Mr. Bill and his family is honest family and he believe in God and he's honest family gypsy. Uh Mr. Bill is not happy because uh some another gypsy family different type of gypsy bring bad picture for entire gypsy community and he's not happy. this we have different type of gypsy what believe in god and they are really good and honest

and another gypsy what that make trouble right a lot of trouble so he believes that there's a few bad ones that give a bad reputation to everybody [screaming] the name of the is Mercedes. Grandpa. Mercedes and Jacob. Okay. When singing the accordion and uh this is a tradition gypsy music 100% gypsy style. Can you play? Mr. Bill buy this for is a gypsy tradition to have a big palace to have a big house and after that small houses around it.

Beautiful. Thank you. Mercy. Thank you. A lot to take in. Huh? Another thing I want to tell you. Yeah, Jesus. Jesus and God, they are present everywhere here in the gypsy tradition. Okay. And they believe in God so strong. And believe me, if you believe in God, God give you everything. Just trying to take everything in because there's often like four people talking to me at once. Her daughter 18 years old already married. The family buy a lot of stuff and give when she married give for her gold, carpets, everything, furniture, money, gypsy families when they married, the fathers meet each other and they talk how to give everything for the children. So this is Romanian marble here. Pure marble.

Marble means power in the gypsy tradition. Is that right? Yes. The quality even more than gold. Marble is no gold is the same Chinese antiques here. Mr. V told me now we have a heart issue and have five standers. uh you know that stands yeah on the heart but God love him and look it look amazing right because they believe in God and Jesus mother Maria is here they protect the God and the Maria mother of Jesus protect the family this family did does he know what caused the heart issues super early because he was upset you know when someone angry stress and something like this the doctor after surgical operation said God uh guide my hand and me coming after

him. Even the doctor said the god was the doctor gypsy as well. No Romania. Move. Absolutely off the charts. Wealth. They buy this vehicle before Christmas. It's brand new. Is it rude to ask how much they paid for it? €200,000. Uh, he said, "What you see is not only this, they have more vehicles, more houses. God give him everything. He's not stolen. He's not He's just working.

You said he's working. What's the work? Each family passing to the passing the gold everything. And can you imagine who will be next? Have more the next more. This is for winter kitchen. Oh my god. Ah, they hang with the meat and make the fire and that smoke go through the meat. You feel the taste is amazing. Are you sure you got enough meat, mate? Not enough. Never. I advise you take slow. Oh wow. This is your office. Oh no. Oh. Are you guys seeing this? Off the rails. Absolutely incredible. We got Santa down here. The gypsy don't go for a lawyer. Don't go. They the only community in Romania they not go for to judge for a judge or something like this. She is the judge for all gypsies. Okay. So they have their own law. Is that what you're saying? So it's the local authority, right? Yes. They come here and Miss Stella uh judge them you know in this room the gypsy all gypsy from the community from the county come this

way in this office is this one is her office. And what is the punishment? Who is guilty? Pay gold for the people what not guilty. For the gypsy not guilty and everything judge here. Do you not see the gypsy go to judge? No. This is the judge. Is there any prison or jail? No judgment. Always just gold. No matter what the crime pay the gold everything paying the gold. Miss Stella said in 66 years uh since she's the president for the Gypsy community in Meis County, not even one crime. Are there police in this town or no police?

They don't care about policemen. Right. No, they don't recognize the police. They know I told you this is I They don't like the police. All these houses apart from two belong to Bill and the family here. The amount of money is absolutely obscene. This is another couple hundred,000 euro car. Look, topofthe- line Mercedes. And it says US Army on the front. This is the house for And after 3 years, he will be married.

You're going to get married in 3 years? In three years. This is the tradition, Egypt tradition. And how old are you now? 10 years old. At age 13, he'll get married and him and his wife will move into this house. She built this for him. And how does it feel that this will be your house? Just good. Look at that. Yeah. Close the mouth. Imagine being a 13year-old boy moving in here. Wow. Nobody sleep here. Only when I married, you will move here. So it's never been lived in.

Nobody sleep here. You and Jacob will be ruling this neighborhood one day. Right. Yeah. For the gypsy families, the power is not the girls, only the boys. The boys the power, not the girls. She buy this table from Chawushes time. You know Chawesu, the communist leader of Romania. And she buy from a directly from the factory. up to you. Hi. How are you going to Okay, thank you. This will be your bedroom. Wow. So, he'll live in here. At age 13. He's 10 now. With his wife at age 13. And what age will you have children?

Only God know this. He cannot answer you this when you know they have water. Yeah. Not without When she's angry, she come here and relaxing here because she feel very Yes. This is one of the most surreal things I've ever seen. Here will show you. Oh, wow. A tiger. What do you like to do for fun? No, no play. No drink, no nothing. No smoking, no nothing. Just uh football.

Uh play with the ball, bike or something like this. You like football? Yeah. Yeah, you like Yeah. What's your favorite team? Ronaldo. Not sure if he What's that? Sorry. Not sure if he quite understands the power that he's uh possessing. Mr. Bill's nephew just pulled out of a house in a brand new SUV uh Ferrari. Like the money I just want like so many questions. Oh, thank you. So, Mimi is going to take me for a drive. original gypsy.

We're kind of rolling with the royal family down the street of their kingdom right now, right? Yeah. Indeed, man. Everybody's just staring at the car. This is the traditional gypsy dress. This is gold on the necklace. Yes. That part of the GC what left Romania is stealing and everybody put in the same light all gypsy. This is wrong. Europa look important. They destroyed the picture for the gypsy community in all Europe. Is not about the power, the money or something like this. Is about the God is about the family and the love and they trust in God and God give them everything.

What is the solution to change that bad image? The different communities of gypsy, they're not united. That's the problem. And you don't see a solution to fix the picture. So that was my time with the ultra wealthy gypsies. I'll have to point out something that happened early in the day. They said, "Would you like to see a traditional dance performed by some of the girls here?" And I said, "Yeah, I would love to see that." And that was the dance that you saw at the bottom of the staircase. After spending some time later, I was told that would cost €200. And I said, "Okay." They were obviously very generous to me, so I thought that was okay. But then after another while of spending time, then it

changed to €300, which is getting quite up there, but you know, I didn't want to be rude or anything. And obviously, it's it's an amazing opportunity. So at the end they drove me to an ATM and basically you know I withdrew that much money. So you know it's not cheap. It's quite the large sum and the dance only lasted for about 5 minutes. So do with that information what you will. Overall I felt pretty welcome. Just that part was just something I thought I'd point out. I did ask a few times what they did for work and things. Obviously, they said that they inherited a lot of money, but also they make the barrels where the homemade alcohol is made in. I did have a lot of questions, but when I did ask

about the earnings and things, it wasn't so clear. I'll just say that. Interesting to see, definitely, and an experience I'll never forget. It was one of the most unique days of travel that I've had, that's for sure. In the next video, we're not done yet. We're going to drive to a complete other area of Romania and we're going to meet the king of all gypsies in the world. Then we're going to go and meet the other side of the gypsy people and what we're going to see are the harshest living conditions I've ever witnessed in Europe. So, make sure you stay tuned for the next video. And in case I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
